TS3720 RE: Sony CX260V

Does anyone know how to circumvent the use of Sony's software so that I can immediately use this handy USB port, pull it up and view it without iMovie on my Mac Book Pro 2011 10.6.8.
If I upgrade to current OS will I be able to?
Just want to know best practice for viewing my footage without having to IMPORT, Change Format, Upload to Dropbox and wait 3 hours to have an editor touch it?
Do I have any hope of viewing my files and simply e-mailing them via download to MediaFire or DropBox without changing format. I was hoping for a quicktime movie at least.
Editing nightmare on iMovie. Some of the footage magically transformed into SD without me changing anything. I had no setting changes during the shoot.
I want my HD files as I see them on the screen to be downloaded somewhere so that I can view them without crazy time reformatting. I just want my high res beautiful footage quickly available so I can grab it and send it off for edit and polish!
Suggestions please.

Well, for effective video editing, the advice I've seen posted before is to buy a laptop that is designed for video editing

or
-at least the Intel sandy bridge 2720 or 2820 quad processor
-and nvidia graphics such as the 460m with 1Gig video ram
-1280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0-compatible graphics card
-and 8 or 16 gig ram and Win7 64bit Pro
-and 2 internal 7200 HDDs minimum

  • Can I import clips using a frame rate of 60 or higher?

I have a sony cx260v that allows me to record in a rate of 60 fps. However when I attempt to upload the footage taken in this frame rate to iMovie 11 9.0.4 it shows as a blocked clip and does not allow me to upload.
    Any ideas?

Yes, you can re-import them, but it's not that straightforward, and you loose some quality in the process. Search for "MPEG Streamclip" or "DVD camcorder" in this forum, and you will find lots of answers.
Alternatively, you can make data DVDs with your DV clips. Simply pop in an empty DVD, and drap the DV clips you want to export into the burn folder. A normal DVD can hold about 20 minutes of DV clips, a dual layer DVD twice as much.

  • I run Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V. How do I import from the camera directly to Final Cut, without having to go through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

    I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V.
How do I import from camera to Final Cut without going through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

Transfer it to your computer and import into iTunes, make sure it's in a compatible format. Then simply sync with the iPad. If you have a camera connection kit and you know the footage is compatible you can connect it directly.

If your Sony is a miniDV HDV camcorder, then be advised that Premiere Elements 13 does not have the DV and HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements Capture Window.
The last version of Premiere Elements to include that featuer is 12/12.1.
Adobe has a document describing suggested workarounds for the Premiere Elements 13/13.1 situation.

  • Do I need iMovie 11 for a Sony HDR-CX260V?

Trying to figure out why iMovie does not recoginize this camera? It does not pop-up automatically at the point that you should be able to start an import.

Just for future reference, AJA has a free app called "AJA VTR Xchange" that would capture just fine for you.  It would probably capture directly from the camera, also.

  • TS3720 Sony Handycam HDR-PJ580V -- Any suggestions for compatibility and quick view?

    Considering this camera as backup.
Just want to quick view footage and import it to MediaFire or Box or DropBox to view and share there.

Imovie HD and Final Cut Express HD3.5 have no problems capturing video from the HC-3. The problem you are having is setting up the video camera to output the video so that you can capture video.
Here are the settings for your camera: I have the same camera
1.Click picture menu on HC-3, then click menu tab
2.Scroll down on with arrow icons till you reach the STANDARD SET
3.Click on STANDARD SET= Click on VCR HDV/DV make sure you have it set to AUTO or HDV
4.Go back to the standard set menu and scroll down till you see i.LINK CONV
5.Click i.LINK CONV make sure that you turn this option off and save all your setting on the camera
6.Turn off the camera reboot your Mac Open Imovie HD
7.Then Click the Capture Icon for Imovie HD then turn on your HC-3 you should be all set. Good Luck. I also have Final Cut Express HD3.5 and that will work as well as long as the settings for the camera is setup properly same settings posted above.
If you have a PS3 export to APPLE TV FORMAT burn to DVD with Toast UDF DVD= the file size is small and yet the video looks really good I dont know how apple did it but this compression is awesome, and doesnt take years to encode ( like HD DVD in compressor ) no menus or anything like that but if you want a high resolution video 960X540 this is a good compromise.

  • Help- Sony and MAC

I am unable to use my new Sony camcorde HDR- CX 700V. The book states I need to contact Apple for additional software. Can someone help?

Go to this address in Apple Support:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3720
It deals with the requirements for using that model of camcorder. As the camera models roll out with improvements and features the drivers need to be updated to accommodate that fact. You might be able to resolve your issue with a trip to the Sony support site to download updated drivers.

  • Can Premier handle the SONY camcorder MTS format files?

I have a 1 year old Sony camcorder (model HDR-CX260V) and was trying to determine if Adobe Premier Elements can import the videos that that camcorder takes (seems to be MTS file format), import those videoes, edit them, and then output to a more universally recognized file type (that can be played on a TV/DVD and/or PC?
I have done a # of web searches and don't seem to find a definitive answer on this.  Thanks in advance for any help.
         Fred

    Fred
For now assuming a NTSC workflow.
I have looked at the video specifications for the Sony HDR-CX260V and on paper it looks you should be able to import/edit/export it output, namely,
    a. 1080p60 (1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 60 progressive frames per second)
    b. 1080i30 (1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 30 interlaced frames per second)
    c. 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 @ 30 interlaced frames per second.
You say that you have a .mts file extension.
Premiere Elements 11 has project presets for each of the above.
For TV/DVD viewing via the DVD player, you are going to need DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc. In this case, NTSC DVD-VIDEO Widescreen format on DVD disc.
    Keep in mind:
    a. you will be going from 1920 x 1080 to the standard of the DVD-VIDEO format (720 x 480 frame size whether standard or widescreen)
    b. your interlaced source media will gave a Field Order (Scan Order) = Upper Field First; whereas, DVD-VIDEO has Lower Field First....that may need switching by selecting one of the Hard Disk Flash Memory Camcorder choices or using a regular project preset and using Field Options Reverse Field Dominance on the file on the Timeline.
All this can be done in many versions of Premere Elements (with or without new Premiere Elements project preset 1080p60). More details on that later.
But, if you do not now have any version of Premiere Elements, then please, before any purchase, download and install and try the free 30 day tryout of Premiere Elements 11 from Adobe. You need to verify that Premiere Elements 11 is compatible with your computer environment as well as your video importing/editing/exporting.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • Unable to capture Canon HDV footage with Sony v1u camera

I'm trying to capture hdv footage filmed with a canon video camera with my sony v1u.  My sony footage captures as it should, but the canon footage, although playing fine on the sony camera, will not capture to cs4.  Any suggestions?

  • Unable to capture HDV in FCP 6.0.1 from Sony HVR-Z1P

Hi I'm attempting to capture HDV footage from a Sony Z1.
I am trying to capture some HDV footage I shot with the Z1, but FCP simply refuses to recognize the Z1
I'm certain I've got all the settings correct:
    - Camera is set to HDV firewire out
    - capture presets is set to HDV
    - device control preset is set to Sony HDV FireWire
    - sequence preset is set to HDV 1080i50 (I'm in Australia)
    - footage IS HDV 1080i50
But I keep getting the "Unable to Initialize Capture Device and Device Control" popup. I've tried everything
    - rebooted the camera
    - restarted FCP
    - rebooted the system
    - changed the capture/device control settings in FCP and tried out a regular DV deck to make sure it wasn't the cable
    Nothing has worked.
I'm on a MBPro I7. No Kona card or anything like that, just trying to capture through firewire.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Matt
At present it will capture HDV in IMovie but not FCP 6.0.1

Thanks Adrian, since posting the thread I've thought of that too but unfortunately to no avail. From other forums I've read this seems to be a central theme to the solution to my capture woes. I since have sorted the problem it was in Audio/Video Settings.
In the end I set my Audio/Video Settings to:
Sequence Preset to: Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50
    Capture Pre-HDV- Apple intermediate Codec
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
And hey presto my I'm capturing HD without any problems. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

  • Macbook to Sony Bravia - Problems

    Hey -
So I'm trying to connect my Macbook (I got this back in like 2006-2007?) to my Sony Bravia TV. I have the current set-up:
VGA Cable connected from the back of the TV to a Mini-DVI-to-VGA connector to the MacBook. When I plug it in, the Macbook detects it (since I can see the MacBook screen adjusting to it) but when I go to find it on the TV (Input/Source), the "PC" option is grayed out. I've been trying everything (Detect Display, etc) for the Bravia to detect it but no dice. Any help would be great.
For the time being, I'm using a S-Video to Mini-DVI-to-S-Video adapter to the MacBook but the quality is really poor (except when watching movies).
Is there something else that I need to do?
    Thanks!
    Albert

    hello, people.
I'm trying to sync my mac to Sony Bravia as well.
    And it was tough.
But on my last try I find a way.
You have to put a resolution 640 x 480 on your mac
    and 1920 x 1080 on Sony TV.
After that, you have to go on menu of your TV and follow the steps:
ajustes > canais de entrada > controle de entradas
I know the names in portuguese.
But in english should be the same.
And set you PC from AUTO to "SEMPRE"
The TV is already set on AUTO (automatic)
It works and I really happy.
I wish it works for you too
    Good luck

  • Cannot Connect Imac 24" via mini dvi to HDMi adapter cable to Sony Bravia 3

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having the worst time in trying to connect the following:
    1. Imac 24" 3.06 dual with dvi connection
    2. Mini dvi to HDMI adapter (this mac with this connection was produced only for a short while!).
    3. 10' (foor) HDMI wire
    3. Sony Bravia 32" model KDL32L-5000 with 3 HDML connections
i.When I wire everything up, I keep getting"no signal" on my Sony Bravia TV.
ii. It doesn't matter whether I connect the HDMI wire to HDMI 1,2, or 3 on my Sony
iii. On my Imac Hard Drive>>Applications>>System Preferences>>Displays
all I get is a list of different resolutions. There is no mention or mirrors etc.
Nothing happens when I press "Gather Windows" or Detect Displays"
Can someone out there please help!!!!!
Can you also give any solution in very simple and small detailed steps!
    Thanks,
    Stacey Bindman

Majortrout, there is a major disconnect going on here.
    1. You are showing an Ebay link with a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
    2. You report that you have an Early '09 24" iMac.
    3. That iMac does not have a mini-DVI port. That iMac has a mini-DispayPort.
    4. You need a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
It is physically impossible to attach the adapter to which you link at Ebay to your iMac. So you need to take a step back and figure out what you really have; which iMac, which adapter, etc.
