TS3742 Kernel Panic/System Restart when disconnecting thunderbolt drive

I have isolated the kernel panic to the connected thunderbolt devices. More specifically, every time I disconnect an external thunderbolt drive, there is a kernel panic and the system restarts. Any ideas?
Hardware Overview:
  Model Name: Mac Pro
  Model Identifier: MacPro6,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
  Processor Speed: 3.5 GHz
  Number of Processors: 1
  Total Number of Cores: 6
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
  L3 Cache: 12 MB
  Memory: 32 GB
Yosemite 10.10.2

Are you ejecting the device before disconnecting it? If not, then you need to.

  • 12-inch G4 powerbook 1.0GHz has kernel panics every restart

I have a 12-inch G4 powerbook 1.0Ghz machine that keeps having kernel panics every restart.
I have run the Apple Hardware Test, and this comes back fine saying there is nothing wrong with any of the hardware. I have reset the PRAM, and repaired the disc permissions.
I thought it might be a software issue, so I archived and re-installed the system software. Still didnt work. Then I tried the erase and install, still didnt work.
Is there anything else I can check to see what is causing the kernel panic. Anything else I can use to test the hardware to make sure. I have a bad feeling it is the logicboard even though the Apple Hardware Test said it was fine.
The kernel panic is also not even creating a log, so I cannot even let you know why it is causing the kernel panic. Any help will be much appreciated

Glad removing the Airport Extreme card worked. You can try wiping off the contacts with a lint free cloth, and replacing the Airport card making sure it is securely seated. Sometimes heating and cooling along with the normal handling of a laptop dislodges the card enough to cause problems. If that doesn't help you will need to get a new card.

  • Windows XP crashes and system restarts when I try to open Itunes 6

I tried to ask the people at Apple support what was going on. But they didn't seem to know. My system restarts when I try to open Itunes. It does it with the factory software I recieved with my 5g Ipod Video. It also does it with any updated version I install. If I reinstall Itunes the program works fine for about a day. Then it crashes my system again. Please help. I don't want to reinstall Itunes everyday in order to use it.

Now I have the blue screen and this is the error message.

hmmmm. okay ... do you have an early version of Roxio CD Creator 5 installed on that PC?
i've seen this show up a few times. one of the early versions of Easy CD Creator 5 actually isn't compatible with XP:
Easy CD Creator 5.0 Does Not Function In Windows XP
... but sometimes the first time people know about this is when the PC starts throwing a 0x50 at them them they try to launch itunes or (of all things) plug in an ipod ...
if that doesn't seem to be a factor, another thing to try is vigorous spyware and virus scans (with fresh definitions). both haxdoor and sdbot can make PCs suddenly start throwing 0x50s after new software installs.
but if those turn up blank, let's try getting a minidump on the crash to the Discussions Hosts so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple Engineers for a look. (thanks to toonz for teaching me this one.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
And then send it to a Discussions Host. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.

can any one help me out here, tomorrow I am going to boot it into target disk mode and install from a G5 onto the powerbooks HD doing a CLEAN install and then I am going to try booting it from a DVD and doing another CLEAN intstall just cause I dont trust a firewire install for some reason. I would like to avoid all this mess if possible. ANY HELP PLEASE, either respond or email me tend0 at mac dot com. thanks

haha oh man thanks for startin slow with me, but we are passed that tested RAM, start up items, prefs, tried makin a new user account, as I stated before I can not boot from a DVD/CD.. that was one of the problems so I cant run anything that involves tageting the main HDD while its mounted. I have also repaired perms, ran fsck, tried booting up DiskWarrior(didnt boot from the CD), etc. if any one knows this perticular kernel panic string and can point out what the conflict is I can resolve it but other than that I have ran the run of the mill check to see if everything is in order procedure again and again.

I just fix my macbook air because it was kernel panic. They changed the hard drive. I could not back up with Time Machine, because it did not work and I had over Adobe creative suite 5 design premium student. But I finished my studies last year and I'd like to know how to get the serial number for me to reinstall Adobe creative suite 5 design premium when I am no longer study because I would still like the used? It is not fair if I do anymore because I really need.

You can download Creative Suite 5 here:

  • TS3742 kernel panic when unplugging arduino

    Hello,
I have a very repeatable problem when doing development on an  Arduino.  Randomly when unplugging the Arduino from the USB port my macbook will Kernel Panic.  I've seen a lot of chatter about this on the forums but no solutions.  This is a serious problem for Arduino development on a mac, because you typically have to unplug and plug in the device to upload a new software version.
    Here is my environment:
    macbook Pro
    OSX Lion 10.7.5
    Arduino 1.0.2
Boards: Happens when working with both UNO and MEGA  boards.
Any recommendations would be most appreciated.  Even a way to close/open the serial port without unplugging so I could load new software would be a step in the right direction.
    Thanks!

Please open a bug report at http://bugreport.apple.com - that way Apple will know of the problem and hopefully someone will work on resolution.
PS - You will need the free Apple Developer Connection user id for reporting the bug.

    Hi LsmithIIIkw,
This aritlce has some tips that should help you identify and resolve the issue.
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac restarts and a message appears
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
If your Mac restarts unexpectedly, an error known as a “kernel panic” occurred. After the restart, you’ll see a message that your computer restarted because of a problem.
The most likely cause is faulty software. A kernel panic can also be caused by damaged or incompatible hardware, including external devices attached to your Mac.
Note: To print these instructions, open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear), then choose Print.
If the kernel panic is caused by a known problem, the faulty software is identified. To make sure that this software doesn’t continue to cause kernel panics, move it to the Trash. If the faulty software is not identified and your Mac continues to experience kernel panics, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Restart the Mac in safe mode. If the Mac successfully starts up in safe mode, choose Apple menu > Software Update, then download and install any updates available for your Mac.Start up in safe mode
Uninstall any plug-ins or other enhancement software from manufacturers other than Apple. If you recently updated OS X or an app, plug-ins and other software that worked in the past may no longer be compatible. Read the manufacturer’s documentation (including Read Me notes) to be sure the software is compatible with your version of OS X.
Reset parameter random-access memory (PRAM).Reset your computer’s PRAMApple Support article: Mac OS X: What’s stored in PRAM?
Use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk or your disk permissions, or both.
Disconnect all USB and FireWire devices, except for the Apple keyboard and mouse. Remove hardware upgrades from other manufacturers, such as random–access memory (RAM) and Peripheral Component Interconnect cards. Then try restarting your Mac.If this resolves the issue, reconnect one device at a time, restarting your Mac after reconnecting each one, until you determine which device is causing the problem.
Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test. These apps can tell you if hardware you installed, such as additional memory, is incompatible, improperly installed, or defective.Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test
If the steps above don’t help, try reinstalling OS X.Reinstall OS XNote: If you moved or renamed an OS X system file or folder, you must reinstall OS X. It won’t work to just replace or rename the specific item.

  • Kernel panic on restart

Hi guys. Sometimes when I restart my iMac 21.5 Mid 2011 I get a kernel panic. I took the information of the kernel panic from the Console, I hope this give you some information about the origin of the issue. A Page Fault is normally a RAM problem. Had you previously upgraded your RAM?
regardless, check it with this: http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/
    i would suggest three passes

  • Memory issues - kernel panics / system freezes with 1Gb Memory Card

I've recently updated my PowerBook OS to 10.4.7 and now more recently 10.4.8.
Prior to this, i had been running a pair of pc2700 memory cards (1x1Gb + 1x 512Mb) bought from crucial technology on 10.3.9 with no problems.
During the upgrade, i experienced complete system lock ups and kernel panics. pulling the 1Gb card resolved the problem.
So i thought it could be duff memory (it happens). I ran hardware checker, both long and short tests, ran memchecker from single user and there was no reported errors although i was still getting crashes.
I returned the memory to crucial and they replaced it and then i went to reinstall memory in the pb.
Once reinstalled, problems re-emerged. Both System profiler and iStat pro show both memory sticks as ok. both are pc2700 DDR.
i tried just the 1 Gb stick in alternate memory slots. with the memory in the lower slot i was getting system freezes, in the top slot i was getting kernel panics.
I've pulled the 1Gb and reverted to 768Mb (512Mb lower (crucial)/ 256MB (apple) upper) and i'm back to normal.
    Now what?
As my mac is getting on, i'd like to get as much RAM in it as i can, ideally the 1.5Gb /2Gb which it can support. I'd be suprised if it could be the memory stick being duff (2 duff in a row?), its not a faulty memory slot as system profiler is showing that its full.
Any suggestions? Anything to do with how 10.4.8 handles the memory addressing?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    PowerBook G4 1Ghz FW800   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've had that problem, too. I found out that it was one of my memory modules that were broken.
I'd say pop back in your other memory module, then get out your PowerBook DVD and stick it in Restart your PowerBook while holding down the Option Key on your keyboard until some buttons start to show up on your screen.
Select the Hardware Test one, then click the Arrow button. It'll boot into a utility and you can run a hardware test that includes checking your memory.
If any of your memory is bad, it'll show up like "**ERROR ERROR**" and give you a code.
After you've identified the hardware problem (hopefully just the RAM), then you can go to Crucial's website and fill out an RMA request to have the memory replaced. I'm pretty sure Crucial has a life-time warranty on their memory products.

  • Kernel panic, "must restart" screen, but holding down power button does nothing! Need to wait until battery runs out???

Help! While doing workaday tasks on my 15" MacBook Pro with 10.6, I got the dreaded slowly unfolding darkened screen with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off." Kernel panic, I guess.
In the past, in the few times this has ever happened to me, I held down the Power button as instructed, and the Mac turned off.
HOWEVER, this time around, holding down the Power button does absolutely nothing! It doesn't make the computer turn off, no matter how long I hold it down, nor if I try holding it down in combination with other keys.
Needless to say, the OS is completely frozen otherwise, and no keyboard or trackpad actions have any effect.
And since this is the new kind of MacBook Pro -- there's no way to remove the battery!
So, is the only solution, to unplug it from the power supply and simply wait for 8 hours (or whatever) until the battery runs out of juice? Say it ain't so!
(I'm writing this on someone else's computer, needless to say.)
I NEED access to my computer's files TODAY for important work-related matters. Am I out of luck, or is there some secret way to get this darn thing turned off and restarted?

    If you insist! :

  • Kernel Panics Forcing Restart (HELP!)

Hi, I recently purchased my first Apple computer and everything has been going great until recently. I do a lot of video editing so I have been utilizing Adobe's Master Collection.
My Macbook Pro i7 2.66 came up 4GB Ram, however, I just upgraded to 8GB 1067 DD3. I noticed after my installation of the ram I have been getting these Kernel panics which is making my system freeze and command me to restart. I have the log attached...any help will be great!

Well I'd return it, apparently it's simply not compatible with your computer if it's causing KPs. As I mentioned I've had problems with the RAM Fry's sells in my MBP. I returned it and got:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/8566DDR3S8GP/
If you still have the RAM that originally came in the computer OWC will give take it in trade.
One last thing you can try is a PRAM reset, that might work but I doubt it. If you have never done one the instructions are:
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • Kernel panics on restart either HDs or Optical Drive

Out of the blue I started having kernel panics (Grey screen with "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button...).
These started when trying to booth from an attached external HD (running OS 5). I could not booth from the HD.
Also started having kernel panics when I inserted the Lion CD in the cd drive. When I tried to booth from the CD to do a harware evaluation/diagnosis, I also could not booth from it.
    I have a 2008 Mac Pro, 6 GB memory, running OS 10.7.5.
Otherwise I don't seen to have any problems, except thhat it seems it's taking longer tp booth up when successft with OS 10.7.5. Also Safari seems to be sluggish.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Just wanted to add to the above problem post that, apart from not being able to booth from the external firewire drive and the SuperDive, they work fine. It's just the boothing that cases a kernel panic.

  • My MacBook Pro Early 2008 freezes up with  Kernel Panic, i restarting by pressing the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds, but nothing happen and still getting kernel panic 9c2028 10.5.2 Darwin 9.2.1 Anybody please help me get out this panic.

I am writting to ask for help with my old version MacBook Pro early 2008 with Kernel Panic 9C2028 10.5.2 Darwin 9.2.1. My MacBook Pro freezes up with a panic and have to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button. When I restard the comp it keep showing the same Kernel Panic. Will any body outthere heppe me get out this freezes up panic kernel Darwin 9.2.1.
    Thanks You

Looks like a RAM failure or maybe another hardware failure.
Can you take out the battery and with the charger connected start up? Same failure?
Have you tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset? do both twice.

  • Screen flickering and system freezes when using Nouveau driver.

I'm testing the Nouveau driver on my computer, I really want to keep this driver installed because it makes XFCE to use less resources than the Nvidia proprietary driver. But when I start some apps like firefox or make changes to the desktop, the system stop responding and then the screen breaks.
I can't use the computer in that state so I force a shutdown.
I don't know how to see what is going wrong, because the proprietary driver don't give me these problems, I don't get any errors at dmesg log and Xorg log don't have any helpful information.

I got again a total system freeze today when I wanted to launch firefox using only the openbox menu, without wbar running.
So I decided to try now the 'nouveau.noaccel=1' kernel command line parameter, and to use again wbar for my frequently used applis.
In the Xorg log, the differences are:
    without 'nouveau.noaccel=1'

So now 3D acceleration is disabled.
I will see now if the system is stable enough for my daily usage and gives satisfactory performances.
I am almost sure that the mesa nouveau dri driver is the cause of the freezes.
