TS3771 Unable to play transferred movie on iPad

Hi,
Hoping someone can help. I have bought a movie via the iTunes Store for my daughter and transferred onto the iPad. However, although it transfers on, it is all 'greyed out' and you can't get it to play.
Any help would be appreciated.

Might be an HDMI issue.
Check your HDMI lead is ok or try another.
Restart AppleTv and try again (this may make it redownload).
If all fails contact itunes support via expresslane.

  • I am unable to play a movie I rented and transferred to my ipad

I rented a movie tonight and transferred to my ipad---it is showing on my ipad but I am unable to play the movie---what
    is up?

I have found that renting a movie directly on an iPad works best if you plan to watch it there only. You don't seem to need an internet connection to start watching it. BUT if you but the movie on your Mac or Windows machine using iTunes then transfer it to your iPad, you MUST be connected to the internet to start watching.  It must need to do some sort of extra validation with the iTunes store.  I had a movie that I wanted to watch on a flight.  Tried to watch it on the way out but no go.  Just before heading out for the return flight, I pulled up the movie while on a WiFi connection, and it started to play just fine.  Continued to play after the flight took off.

  • Unable to play some movie from Netflix on my iPad. When I click on a movie an error message comes up which says "cannot play movie. Please try again". Can anyone assist me? I just upgraded to iOS 7.1. Netflix not able to find problem.

Unable to play some movies from Netflix on my iPad. When I click on a movie an error message comes up "Cannot play movie. Please try again later." I contacted Netflix but have not been able the help so I am wondering if it's my iPad. I didn't have a problem before but I have recently upgraded to iOS 7.1. Also is a certain amount of storage needed to play a movie? About how much is that?

    Hello all,
I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

  • "QUICK TIME IS UNABLE TO PLAY THIS MOVIE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN."

I edited an iMovie video and shared it on my MobileMe Gallery. I can play it back fine from home, but when friend try to view it, they see only the first frame of the video, but hear all of the audio - with the error message "QUICK TIME IS UNABLE TO PLAY THIS MOVIE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN."
Trying to view it again produced the same result.
    Any suggestions?

    Something odd here.
I too get the same message as you, if I inspect element (cntl + click) there is no mention of a movie, if I try to download it, nothing happens, are you sure the movie is actually there, check your idisk/Web/Sites/_gallery/100036

  • Firmware 6.0 : unable to play a movie

    Hi,
I have updated my firmware in 6.0.
Since this upgrade, i am unable to play a movie or to buy one.
Have you developped a patch/hotfix regarding this problems?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
Also check that your location, region and time zone are set correctly, you can only purchase or play content from the store in your location.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).

  • I am trying to play a movie through iPad to tv

I bought the right cable to connect to iPad to TV but the tv keeps saying to turn airplay on. I have looked through all my settings to play a movie from iPad to movie and everything is plugged in correctly from the directions. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or an easier way I might be missing? Thank you

Make sure you uncheck [√] Mirrored displays, so that you can set the resolution for your external and built-in displays separately.
Use system preferences to choose resolutions (not the menubar item) to get access to all resolutions supported by your projector.

  • Playing purchased movies from iPad that had been synced to my computer

Downloaded purchased movie from itunes to my computer and then synced it to my IPad.  I tried playing the movie from my iPad to my apple tv and it says this device is not authorized to play content.  Also tried from iPod but no luck!  I can watch the movie on my iPad but I can't AirPlay it! Any suggestions,

Like you I am having the same problem. I am at a loss, seems despite the fact I have purchased the content and am only using the TV as a display I don't understand the authorization question. I hope someone has an answer.

  • IOS 5 won't play my movies on iPad

Something odd seems to have happened with the iOS5 update.  Some of my movies -- movies I'd made using iMovie on my iMac -- would not sync on my iPad anymore.  Before the upgrade, they had copied to the iPad from iTunes in the iMac, and played fine on the iPad.  Now, some of them -- not all -- won't load/sync on the iPad anymore.  An error message comes up -- to the effect that there sound isn't compatible.
I can't imagine what thi means: these movies play fine on the iMac, with audio.  They open in Quicktime.  But they now won't transfer to the iPad, whereas before the upgrade they did!
The movies were made with iMovie on the iPad, and exported specifically for the iPhone, iPod, iPad, etc.
Oddly, the option to made an iPad/Apple TV version is now greyed out in iMovie on the iPad.
    Question:
    1)  Is anyone else have this or similar problems?
    2)  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Hal

This seems to be a bug in the Music app.  Here is how I solved it for my iPhone 3GS:
Connect the device using iTunes, and UN-check everything in the "Music" section.
Sync the device with iTunes.  This will remove all music from the device.
RE-check any (or all) items you want to sync in the "Music" section.
Sync the device with iTunes again.
Be patient.  This will probably take a long time.
Sync the device with iTunes again, just to be sure.
Once finished, your music should be restored, and will play properly.
    Good Luck!

  • Playing Rental movie on iPad in appletv

I am trying to play rental movies on ipad2 with appletv but it is taking too long loading. Help?

See my reply to your other post : Re: I cannot find my downloaded rental on my computer.

  • I created movie using iMovies on iMac. Sent movie to iTunes on iMac. Transferred movie to iPad in iTunes. I can not find it on iPad. where should I look?

I created movie using iMovie on iMac. Sent movie to iTunes on iMac. Then sent to iPad using iTunes. I can not find it on iPad. Where should I look? When iPad is connected to iMac it shows it to be in movies. When I look under iTunes movies on iPad I get movies I can rent or buy. when I look under videos I get a blank screen

Are you looking in the Videos app? iMovie on the iPad? The Photos App? I don't use iMovie but those are the three places where you should look.

  • Unable to play certain Movies/TV shows on Touch

I have a couple TV episodes downloaded to I tunes but every time i sync i get a message that says i am unable to play these on my I-Pod. they are both HD but I was sure I had watched other HD downloads in the past. Maybe mistaken. Anyway i know when i bought them i had the option to take the regular version so thought i should just download again but it wants me to buy it again. any suggestions

When I try to watch on my laptop, I hear the sound, but the video is unrecognizable.
Are you seeing patches of bright colors? (pinks, purples, greens, etc.)
With those symptoms, the first thing I'd check on is the "Disable Direct3D Acceleration in QuickTime" section from the following document:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista video playback performance issues
(After making any settings changes in the QuickTime control panel, restart iTunes or QuickTime before checking to see if the changes have had any effect.)

  • Playing itunes movies on iPad

    Hi all,
I downloaded a full TV series of NCIS on iTunes via apple TV 2, but can't play it on my iPad 2. When I look for the show on the iPad (shared via home sharing from my mac) I see a blank icon with "series 2" under it but no show name. When I open the series, I get blank icons, but the synopsis of each episode is available.
Whenever I open an episode it says "cannot open" and returns to the series synopsis of each episode without playing anything. Every other video that I've downloaded or converted from another format to apple TV plays fine, but this is the only series that I've purchased via apple TV then downloaded to iMac. All episodes play fine on apple TV, but won't work on iPad or iPhone. I've done a soft and hard reset on both, logged out of my account and back in, but still have the same problem.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it? Google has not been my friend despite 8 hours looking!
    Thanks,
    Pete

This keeps getting more interesting. I have the same problem on my iPhone 4.
Another weird thing is that I can't update or download any apps from the app store. I've tried signing out of the store in Settings, restarting the iPad, and signing back, but still no luck with the App Store. I get an error that says, "Cannot connect to iTunes store."
Maybe even more odd is that my iPad will play purchased iTunes songs over Home Sharing. Have you tried playing anything else, or downloading something from the App store?
The next thing I'll try, when I get a chance, is just manually syncing it to my main Mac and see if that overrides whatever bug is going on.

  • HT3209 cannot play rented movies on ipad - get error message saying "cannot Play"

has anyone recieved the message 'cannot Play" when attempting to play a movie that you have rented?

I am experiencing the same issue. I have updated iTunes to the very latest version, with the same problems.

  • Unable to transfer purchased movie to iPad

I recently purchased "Twilight (2008)" and tried to transfer it to my iPad.  I got an error message that said that it was unable to do so because it is not authorized to be played on my computer.  However it plays fine on my computer and it sync'ed fine w/ my AppleTV.  It is HD/SD and has iTunes extra.  I tried setting the iPad preferences to "prefer SD version" and not include iTunes extras when syncing w/o luck.  I contacted iTunes support and they told me to repurchase and try again so I deleted the original purchase and purchased it again w/o any luck.  This is the only movie where this is happening.  Other movies have sync'ed fine and purchases since this one have also sync'ed fine.  Support told me that I would have to contact Tech Support which would charge me for support which totally bites because this is clearly a problem on their part.  Any ideas from y'all?
By the way, I'm using latest verion of Lion on a new Mac Mini w/ latest iTunes update.  iPad is iPad 1 w/ latest updates.

    *** FIXED ***
Just to update.  After posting the previous message, I was unable to sync any purchased Movies or TV Shows after Nov 15th to my iPad or iPhone.  When I tried to sync, it kept saying that those purchases were not transfered because they were not authorized for my computer (on which I purchased them).  All movies and TV shows purchased prior to Nov 15th would still sync fine.  Music and music videos have had no problems regardless of purchase date.
I suspected that there was something going on w/ iClouds because it was about the time that iClouds was rolled out that things stopped working for me.  I have two apple ID's.  One is for all my iTunes purchases which I've had forever and the other was more recently set up (couple years) for MobileMe.  I'm not sure if iTunes was confused because of this or not.  Things seemed to go wrong about the same time I made the switch over the iCloud using my MobileMe account.  Even though I purchased everything only using the first Apple ID maybe it somehow thought I was trying to sync using the second which had no authorized purchases.
At anyrate, I just got off the phone w/ tech support who figured it out for me.  There is a folder on your main HD under "Users/Shared" called "SC Info".  It is apparently contains configuration data for iTunes.  If you delete that by putting it in the trash then restarting the computer, it should solve this issue.  So the path to that folder is main_HD --> Users --> Shared --> SC Info.  After deleting this folder and rebooting, you will need to re-authorize your computer in iTunes then re-sync your devices and everything should transfer OK.
Hope this helps for anyone else who may be having similar issues.
