TS3824 My 2006 iMac has vertical lines that wont disappear - can this be fixed?
My 2006 model iMac has vertical lines on the monitor that won't go away and are growing more all the time. Can this be fixed? I was told about the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but it doesn't work on my model - seems to be from 2011 models. Any suggestions?

Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see double lines it's a Video card/VRAM problem, if the lines do not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.

the blue screen is a screen between the boot screen and the Finder starting. While many things cause this, including hardware failures, you will probably have luck reinstalling the OS. Which OS are you using?

Just bought a iMac 17" and it has vertical lines of multi colors. What are the causes, how can I troubleshoot the source and what is the most cost effective way to fix?
Since the last 17" iMac was discontinued in 2007, it's unlikely that it's still under warranty, unless you managed to get Applecare with it.
I had the same problem. The local Mac repair place, Dino computers in Pasadena, said that what it needs is a replacement display, but that alone costs $500, plus installation, so it isn't really worth it to fix.
But I found a website call realmacmods.com, which offers a kit just for this purpose. Not for the layperson however. You can get a kit for about $50 and supply your own 17inch display, or you can buy a display plus adapter board for $150. I talked to Dino and they said they could install it for me for about $120. I decided to get some Mac tools and try it myself. The vendor recommends you have some laptop repair experience, which I don't have, but I have opened up desktop computers before, and that helped. Anyway, it worked. And, you get a higher resolution display: 1900 x 1200, formerly 1440 x 900. It looks great. But again, not for the layperson. -

My screen suddenly had a vertical line that flickers (sometimes), it's green. I don't know how it got there and where did it come from. It just suddenly appear. I left my computer running (and at that time the line wasn't there) as I was waiting for an email to come through but when I got back to it, it had the line. I've restarted my computer but it was still there. What could be the problem and how to fix it? Please help. Thanks.

Replacements 17" displays are around $750 and refrubished ones are around $550.

Not to get your hopes up to high, but Apple had and may still have an extended warranty program for the displays in those Early Intel models. So personally, I'd call Apple Support first and ask if they are still offering an extended warranty program?

Sadly, another thing about repairing those Early iMac's? Is that there is no way of knowing if the display is the only problem and it could cost you more to fix it, than just buying a brand new 21.5" iMac. -
I have a PowerBook G4 17" and need Apple discs to set it up again. Mine lost during move. Screen seems damaged, has vertical lines. Can anyone help. I can call as I have unlimited calling on my iPhone 6 anywhere in North America.

If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:

It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America. -

I myself, two days ago purchased a 2nd hand iPhone 5 that was advertised as having a line of squares at the bottom of the screen. I Googled it and found people saying it was a screen issue and to replace the screen, so I did this and it is still happening with a new screen.
I am starting to dislike Apple intensely after reading forum posts and watching videos where people are asking for help and telling us about issues that they are having with their phones.
Why is Apple getting it so wrong with their updates and manufacturing that they are completely destroying iPhones that cost a lot of money and then expecting the owner to purchase another phone unless they are still in warranty.
Apple you should be going out of your way to put things right for people but instead there is a wall of silence over so many of the issues destroying peoples phones.

When you fail to give information on the exact model MBP that you have, how do you expect anyone to provide you with any specific information?
I suggest that you go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com and look for parts and prices. That naturally assumes that you know what parts are defective and need to be replaced.

Hey a few days ago. I left my phone on a table faced down in a small puddle of bubble mix. ugh.
Everything works the sound, touch screen, camera. No glitches. But my phone is discolored & has vertical lines.
I was wondering of If should just get a new screen or if there's a better way ??Try backing up the phone and then do a restore, when you restore set it up as new to see if it still persists if it does you''ll probably need a repair.

I have a IMac - Mac OSX version 10.4 and présently i see only verticals lines on my desktop and my mouse, i mean the arrow and still mouving but with a little square with vertical lines at the right. This appened when i was talking with a friend on Skype, by error i did click on the video and slowly the vertical lines appeared and covered all ma desktop. Since then, it still there and the only things i see it is the vertical lines and the arrow with the little square.
How can i fix this problem ?

Je pense que ce bug est survenu lorsque j'étais sur Skype avec une amie et que par erreur j'ai cliqué sur l'image de la vidéo et peu à peu les lignes sont appurues et tout l'écran est envahie par ces lignes.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode). -
