Can't send email using wifi. Spent 30 min troubleshooting with my email service provider who finally told me to contact Apple.
It doesn't work when I can't get 3G, whether at home or overseas. Receives no problem, and 3G works fine when it's available.

Maybe it is a 3GS. Anyway, I get the error that the network is not responding, and to check my settings. My ISP is Uniserve (Canada) but I am trying to use Telus (at home, where there is no 3G in my neighbourhood) or whatever is available as I travel eg. US or Europe for outgoing mail when 3G is not available. My husband has no problem with his iphone 4 when he sends email the same way usinf wifi.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • TS3899 I can't SEND email from Telus account in Alberta, Canada? Does anyone know how to set up the Outgoing server? Help! And thanks!

Can't SEND email from Telus account in Alberta, Canada, unless I go to web mail. Does anyone know how to set up the Outgoing server? Incoming is fine. Outgoing used to work. We changed it when we went to another location, and can't get it back. Telus support can't fix it. Neither smtp.telus.net NOR mail.telus.net works for Outgoing server to send mail. Please help! Thanks.

  • Can't send email when not on my home wifi

I use roadrunner as my email.  I also have my own domain that I forward my email to my roadrunner email address.  I have configured my email using the settings at http://help.rr.com/hmsfaqs/e_rrmail_emailSettings_iphone.aspx.  I have double check it.  When setting up my email I use my domain email address.  I have configured the pop-server to point to my roadrunner email address and I point the outgoing server to also use my roadrunner account.  This work perfectly fine when I am at home.  I am able to send emails.  The problem is that when I am on AT&T wifi network or some other wifi network I get an error that I my domain email address was rejected by the server. The only way to get it to send is to turn off wifi and use 3G.  It then sends properly.  This use to work for the past 2 years, but has stopped working.  There were no changes on my end except the upgrades to new 4.3.x iOS upgrades.  I didn't notice when this stopped working and whether it was due to an iOS upgrade or a change on by roadrunner on their servers.
If I change the return email address from my domain email address to my roadrunner email address, it send fine both at my home wifi and at AT&T wifi network.  I have contacted roadrunner help support.  They were less than helpfull.  After 5 emails and 5 response from them, they said it was an Apple issue and that I should contact apple.  Has anyone else noticed this issue?
    John

I am able to send on and off roadrunner's network, if have have my roadrunner email addres as the reply to by using the following http://help.rr.com/hmsfaqs/e_rrmail_emailSettings_iphone.aspx.  My problem is when the reply to is not my roadrunner address but my own domain (which is forward to roadrunner) I can't send off network.  I have not been able to solve that issue.

  • Can't send email with wifi

I have the Apple mail set up , but cannot send or receive email. I used to be able to send when I was using my cell phone as a modem, but since I am on wifi, I can't even send email. I also have my Netscape webmail set up to use like it is Pop email. It also works with my cell phone, but not on wifi. Why do I have to use it as web mail on wifi?

    My guess is that either:
    1. Your local wifi network may be blocking the usual mail port numbers for POP receive (110) and SMTP send (25) services. I don't know why this would occur.
The port for Web Mail, HTTP (80) same as for Browsing, is of course allowed, so you can access web mail on any web page.
    2. If you are referring to a WIFI internet service provider, you may need to reconfigure your Apple mail preferences to use their mail servers (preferences in Mail, not system preferences) rather than trying to forward mail to/from a previous ISP. Or they may not even provide email service. (I know very little about WIFI internet service providers habits).

  • Can't send email when not at home

    Hi there!
I can send and receive email fine when I am at home, but now I am away from my home I can download my email but not send anything. My settings all appear to be correct (no changes made since I left home) so I am wondering why this is.

As Andrew says, your ISP may be blocking the SMTP to prevent spam. However, you may be able to send Mail using another port. My ISP blocks SMTP on the default port (port 25 I think is default) but if you set the port to 587 it works.
So, check you ISP's help. You may be able to set SMTP to use a different port and get your mail to send

  • Can't send emails when away from home

I can send emails from my iphone when I'm at home, but not once I have left the house. I get the 'sending' bar at the bottom, but nothing ever happens. Any ideas?

When at home connected to your wireless network?
If so, is the email account provided by your internet service provider at home?
If yes, most internet service providers don't have an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide which is the problem.
Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated, and AT&T is no different in this regard when connected to the internet via their cellular network when sending email.
AT&T's SMTP server is included as an available SMTP server to select/use for an email account when connected to the internet via their cellular network if an email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server. This should work when connected to AT&T's cellular network but may not work when connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider being used for your internet connection.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had any problems sending with either account regardless the internet service provider being used for my internet connection at the time.

  • TS3899 I can not send email from my new iphone 4s.  I keep getting message 'set password for msn' acct.

Why can't I send email from my new 4S?  Message keeps telling me--enter password in settings..
And where do I find my 'operating system'.  (ie 5.0.1 etc)

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.
    Anyone???

  • Can't send email when replying on email

I’m now using iPhone and facing a problem of replying email by using my handphone. This problem persists when I stay in HCM, but it seemed to be ok when I travelled to Hanoi last month.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

Contact the email provider and get the correct email account settings.
It should not matter what city or country you are in to send email, but there may be other factors which you are not aware are important and have left off.

  • Can't Send Email When On The Road

Hello - My son has a Roadrunner acct. When he's on the road, he can receive mail via hte Mail app; but he can't send it. Does he need to edit his emai settings while on the road? Thank you!

    Hello.
It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at each location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user. Note that when you’re not at home, the ISP at that location is usually not the same as the ISP when you’re at home.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

You need to delete the Yahoo account and reset it up.  I just did this for an iPhone running yahoo in my house.
    Settings
    > Mail Contacts etc
    > Select Yahoo account
    > Delete account
    Settings
    >Mail, Contacts etc
    > Add account
    > Select yahoo
...  add email address, password etc

  • Can only send email over wifi?...

Anybody have any clues why this would happen? I get a message that the server is not responding if I try to send an email on the 3g network (Orange, France) but it works fine once hooked up to wifi. Sending an identical email at the same time with the computer over wifi goes through so it's not a timing issue.

Could be that you using your ISPs SMTP

  • Can't send email over wifi

I can receive email over wi-fi, but not send. It works fine over 3G. It's a pop account.  Any help is appreciated.

Who is the email account provider for this email account and does the account have an authenticated SMTP server - authenticated with a user name and password as is required to check for any receive email?

  • TS3899 I can not send email

I cant sen out email get error message that says "message has been rejected by server because it does not allow message relaying"

    Hi,
This generally means the e-mail is not functional, or has been typed in incorrectly. I would recommend contacting the other end by another contact means - e.g. phone their technical support.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!
