TS3899 Mail usage, 570mb even though it's empty??

Trying to save some space, have deleted all old messages and restarted, under usage, mail is biggest file : 570mb?? but nothing in there, any help to reduce it, thanks

I attempted a reset, but to no avail. My last sentence basically means I only check my email on my Apple devices or from the Hotmail site. I don't use Outlook or any other program to check messages. I just wasn't sure if that would make a difference or not.

Contact photos are not showing up in Mail message list, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it.

I'm using Mail 5.3 and Address Book 6.1.3 on X 10.7.5. I want my contact photos to show up in the message list on Mail, but only some of them do, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it. Mail windows reopen even though they've been closed when Mail launches

I've had this problem with both Tiger and Leopard.
When I open Mail, it opens with all the previous session's message windows just as they were previously.
Even though before I closed Mail, I closed all the message windows.
Any ideas??

If you open Mail and then in its File menu at the top, click on Window and choose Previous Recipients, you'll get a popup window listing them. At that point, you can highlight and delete any/all.

Mails are deleted even though delete is set to "never"

I have a wierd problem. I will just explain my setup to you guys.
I have an iPhone 4, Outlook 2007 and a webmail client all running up against an IMAP server. But I am losing mails in two different ways.
1. When I delete a message on my iPhone, it is moved to the "trash"-folder. It is allowed to stay there for a week, after this the iPhone deletes the mail from the server. This happens even though I in my setup have defined, that mails are never to be deleted from the folder.
2. When I delete a message in Outlook og my webmail-client, the message is marked for deletion. Every 1st of the month (possibly every 2 weeks, I am still not sure of this) my Inbox is autopurged. Since Outlook is unable to do this by default and I have disabled autocleanup in my webmail, I have concluded, that it must be the iPhone performing this purging.
These problems started when I got my iPhone 2 months ago, so I am pretty sure that the mailclient on the iPhone is to blame for this mess. I have contacted my ISP and asked them to read the logfiles - they say, that nothing out of the ordinary is happening and points at the iPhone as the culprit. Have anyone in here experienced likewise and possibly have a solution to the problem?

it's running ios 7.0.2 or something like that. I can't install new apps anymore, updates work fine. the 32gb real estate are only used for apps, I have no stored movies, photos, music. So there is room. There is also room on the screen itself. I know there is max number of apps you can install right? But even though I delete an existing app to replace with a new different one, it still won't install. I reset, turned on/off, everything but no luck. Please help.

Hook it up to the computer that you normally sync with and, if necessary, fire up iTunes. Look at the usage chart at the bottom of any screen. If it appears to be unreasonable, a "Restore" may be in order. Go to the summary screen and follow the on-screen instructions.

our application is loads a lot of data into the server cache from a DB ( ~ 6.5 Gigs). I am seeing a lot of Full GC's happening even though none of the spaces are shown as full in the GC output. Below is the sample output that I have from the GC, and its outputted virtually all over the logs, including right after I start the server.
Can anyone recommend tweaking any settings that can help me avoid this?

An explicit call to System.gc() runs a serial (one-thread) stop-the-world mark-compact collector. Almost certainly not what you want if you are using the concurrent mark-sweep collector and tuning your heap to try to get short garbage collection pauses. The only good news is that your collections don't take that long.
You should track down whoever is calling System.gc() and tell them to stop. If you can't do that, there are two workarounds. If you are running JDK-1.6.0, you can use the -XX:+ExplicitGCInvokesConcurrent flag to have calls to System.gc() just start a regular CMS cycle. That will block the thread that calls System.gc() until the cycle is complete, but allow the other threads to run concurrently with the collection. The larger hammer is -XX:+DisableExplicitGC, which turns calls to System.gc() into a no-op. If someone thought they needed garbage collection to happen promptly (e.g., under the impression that they needed finalize() method to run, etc.), then using that flag will disappoint them.
Your log doesn't show how often these full collections are happening. If you add the -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps flag you will be able to see when they happen, in seconds since the launch of the VM. That may help you coordinate these collections with actions in your program to identify actions that cause System.gc() calls.
For example, RMI uses full collections at regular intervals to implement their distributed garbage collection algorithm. In JDK-1.5.0 (and earlier) the default interval was once a minute. In JDK-1.6.0 (and later) the default interval has been changed to once an hour. You can change the RMI distributed garbage collection interval with the properties -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval= and -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=. That's a third possible workaround.

Cannot see mails in Apple Mail 5.1 even though they exist in the folder

My iMac (late-2011) HDD crashed and got replaced. I recovered the system from Time Machine using Migration Assistant, all looks fine except for Apple Mail 5.1. I could not see any of the mails that were in Apple Mail (although they appear when you go into Time Machine). I checked the ~/Library/Mail folder, under V2 folder, the emails (.emlx files) are all there, but I cannot see any mails that were recovered from Time Machine in Apple Mail. Sending and receiving works fine.
Any one else has seen this quirkiness in Apple Mail? I am tempted to use another Mail client to import to see if those "missing" mails will miraculously reappeared. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I have 5 years of emails archived.

Just a thought. If those emails are supposed to be in folders in the On My Mac area in the Mail sidebar, make sure On My Mac is not set to the "hide" status. Mouse over the On My Mac leegend and if a ghost item "show" appears, click it.

OSX mail (Mavericks) fetches even though it's set to manual.

This is only on my MBP; the iMac works as expected. ???

Cannot get iCloud mail to work even though I have an iCloud account already

I am trying to setup Mail and Notes on an iMac (i3) with OS X 10.8.2. When I go into Preferences > iCloud > check "Mail", I get a prompt for an email address. I enter my existing iCloud email account and click OK but it then asks me to click on "Create" to create the account so I do. It then comes back and says that email already exists and to pick a new one.
There is no option for using an already existing account so there is no way to setup mail.
When I try to go to Mail via the web based iCloud.com interface I am able to login with my iCloud account but when I click on Mail it tells me "iCloud Email Needed" and to create a new email by turning on Mail in the iCloud settings.
It appears Apple has really messed up on iCloud as they did on MobileMe as they did with Mac.com. That aside, how do I get access to my mail?

Here are the instructions to set up the mail manually, it's for Snow leopard but works in ML, try this.Once Mail is working you should be able to enable Notes.
I haven't tried this so here's hoping it works for you, read it first, follow all instructions as printed.

ICloud Mail full even though I've emptied it...

I received an email saying my icloud storage is almost full. So I went in and deleted pretty much everything. My iPod tells me that I have 36 MB in my iCloud mail - but I deleted it ALL!!!!! Both on my device an on iCloud.com. What is up with that? Is there somewhere else I have to go to delete mail? I really don't want to pay for more storage.

External Hard Drive says there is not enough space even though it is empty!

I have just backed up all my data with Chronosync. I then selected all and put it in my trash, so my external hard drive would have enough space for a backup. But when I try to use Time Machine it says that the external hard drive still has all the data even when I put it in the trash. I do not want to empty the trash before I backup using Time Machine, just in case something happens. How do I get my external hard drive to show it is empty to Time Machine, so I can use it?

moving stuff to trash doesn't remove it from a drive. It puts it in a hidden .Trash folder on that drive. you have to empty trash to reclaim space. even easier would be to reformat the drive if you have a lot of stuff to erase.

Right, but I mean I think the connector on the logic board might be detached/broken. When I tested the old display, I completely removed the new one, cables and all, and connected the old one with the original LVDS cable. So these symptoms are independent of the lcd/cables that I use.

I'm not sure I follow. By "completely black screen" I meant no backlight...
Detached GPU a.k.a ball grid array ATi chip:
-computer boots, with chime
-distortions in color
-flickering lines
-cycling through red, green and blue
-ultimately a blank screen (but still backlit?)

No there would be no graphic anomalies in this failure and clamping left of the track pad is a problem since that's where the hard drive is. The pressure should go on U28 as indicated in the Cory Arnold site better resolder pin 15.
I guess I just want to get this all sorted out for posterity.
OK. If you hit a wall you could send it up here and I'll take a look.
