Yes Rosetta has been gone for over two years. You can always search here for how Michael Lax's instructions on how to run SL Server in a virtul environment, but I don't think it is too kind to gamers.
Advice? Buy an old Mac that runs PPC software.

I have recently updated my Mac to version 10.7.5 and now Photoshop Elements 4 will not open. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it shows message
"You can't open the application HFSTest because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" so I can get no further.
Having paid for this software and used it on my Mac previous version, I want to open and use it now. Very annoyed. Anyone got any helpful tips?
    Thanks.

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to reply concerning my problem with opening PSE4 on my Mac running v10.7
I understand now and I guess I have to fork out for the latest version of Elements. So very annoying!
    Best wishes

It's telling you the sad truth. PSE 4 is not compatible with 10.7 (wasn't really for several versions of OS X, although if installed it would continue to work.) You need at least PSE 6.

  • Keep getting message "Powerpc applications are no longer supported"

I get the fact that after installing Lion my Power PC applications are no longer supported - how do I get this message to stop popping up every time I try to use my calendar?

There is a "Remove Office" app that gets installed with MS Office. Using that is very much more effective than using the Trash because dragging the app to the Trash does not rid you of a huge number of support program that MS uses for Office.
I don't have Office 2004 on any of my Macs but, in Office 2008, this folder in "Applications:
[click image for larger view if needed]
has an "Additional Tools" folder that contains the Remove Office folder. Again, it may be in a  different spot in Office 2004, but look for an Office folder that contains apps you don't normally access directly.
If you can't find it, you may wish to ask in the Office for Mac forums that MicroSoft sponsors:
    Office for Mac forums
NOTE: Your issue should only affect Office 2004 and earlier. If you have Office 2008 or 2011, something else is afoot and you need to let us know the version.

After upgrading to Lion, not able to use a PowerPC Application (Quicken 2007).  Any solution?

Quicken Essentials 2010 has less features than Quciken 2007.  Keeping track of investments is one feature I need and Quicken Essentials does not include that function.  I may have to consider others financial software, such as iBank4, Money4, iFinance, and Money Well.

  • "powerPC applications are no longer supported" what can i do??

I'm trying to download Sims3 Island Paradise, available for Mac, and I keep getting the message "powerPC applications are no longer supported" what can i do?? All other Sims3 downloads have worked. I have the right disc etc and its not an illegal download.

The Lion OS does not support PPC applications.  Check with the vendor if they have a version compatible with Lion.
    Ciao.

IMHO the free apps are a band aid fix. If the OP uses Office on a regular basis he will need to upgrade anyway. Personally I have used neooffice and found it substandard however that was just my take. I haven't tried Google's solution.
We both forgot to mention the OP could also use Pages and Numbers to open their Word and Excel files. If he uses Entourage then Mail and iCal would be viable substitutes.

  • Diablo II can't open b/c PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

Downloaded OSLion and now Diablo II can't open b/c PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

Correct. Lion does not support Rosetta, hence, no PPC applications. You need to install Snow Leopard in order to run a PPC application or have the application upgraded to a compatible version.

Use the Finder "Go" menu while holding down the option key to expose your User / Library folder.
Look in the Application Support folder for PACE items and delete them.

Im getting a constant error message: "you can't open the application PACE because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". I cant find PACE to delete it?

    PACE is a rather crappy copy protection software used by the following;
    Antares
    Melodyne
    Cycling 74 Max/MSP/Jitter
    iZotope oZone
    Line6 POD Farm
McDSP plug-ins (some software purchases include a green iLok key)
    MOTU
    Overloud
    Pro Tools
    Serato
Virtually all Digidesign (RTAS and TDM) plug-ins
    Virtually all Waves Products
So if you have any of there, they might be the cause of your problems.
