If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.

Installing Snow Leopard revealed a faulty hard drive, but Genius Bar got me a new hard drive and installed Snow Leopard and the rest of the Mac Box Set for me.
I'm putting my computer back together, and I had all my files backed up on a Passport, but what do I do about the applications that I had? I could use a reinstallation of Office for Mac and Final Cut Express. Can I ask the companies directly?

More reason to back up your +*entire system,+* whether with Time Machine, a "clone" app like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, and/or some other way.
You should still retain the original discs, of course, but having a full system backup greatly reduces the chance you'll need them.

Hi, I have a Power Book G4 Tiger 10.4.11 and my problem concerns iTunes 9.2.1(5). I have changed my Apple ID and password recently. Since that, I am told, only when I try to buy something in iTunes Store, that my "session has expired". Where does this come from? What should I do to solve this problem ? Spotlight lists items and shows preview images. BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine: e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window. Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

You should have been storing everything on your computer and regularly backing up your computer.
If you failed to do that, then you may be able to get your pics from photo stream

Now that I am using it as an external drive, how do I get the harddrive I removed from my laptop to display like it did when it was still in the laptop , when I connect it to a new computer?. I can't locate my Firefxox bookmarks that I originally saved to the HD when it was in the laptop. The laptop is dead but fortunately I was able to salvage the hard drive. I Need help urgently since I have tons of bookmarked pages and saved passwords that are critical to my work and life. The original laptop that the HD came from has a Windows Vista OS. The netbook I connect the HD to uses Windows XP.

GarageBand v.10 vs. v.6: what about all the support files?
Never used GarageBand myself, so I don't know much about it. Redoing setup of a friend's older model iMac, I install some of the iLife 2011 apps, but see that the App Store offers the latest GarageBand v.10 as a free install, so I go ahead with the latter. However, I note that the new GarageBand doesn't seem to install any of the very large array of support files that the old GarageBand did (e.g. in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand). I wonder, does the new GarageBand use any of that stuff? If so, shouldn't it appear when GB 10 is installed?
I delete the new GarageBand and install GB 6.0 from the iLife install disc; it puts the usual 1.4GB of support files in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand (and others elsewhere, I believe). I then download/install the new GB v.10 again, noting that while the GB 6.0 application file (which has now been placed in a folder labeled "GarageBand 6.0) is some ~267 MB, the new GB 10 application is 1.2GB. So does the new GB include all its support files within the application? If/when I delete GB 6.0, shall I delete all the supporting files (which I recall from previous searches are spread out in various locations)? Anybody know about this?Thanks, léonie, for the information; very helpful. I downloaded the updater for GB 6.0.5, but the Installer told me “The version of GarageBand installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.” Software Update / Mac App Store doesn’t show any update for any version of GarageBand.
Assuming that the presence of GB 10 prevents the Installer from seeing GB 6, I delete GB 10, pull GB 6 out of the folder where it was placed by the GB 10 installation, then Restart the iMac, and run the GB 6.0.5 Update again. Now it tells me “GarageBand 6.0 or later is required to install this update.” Uh, GarageBand 6.0 is right there in the Applications folder; it even says “GarageBand 6.0” below it.
Okay. I move GarageBand 6.0 to the Trash, and reinstall it from the iLife 11 disc, then Restart the iMac and try the GB 6.0.5 Update again. This time it works. Whew. I then download/install GB 10 again. I’ll leave it up to the iMac owner to decide where he wants to go with these.

I am selling my iMac, but what about resetting the computer?
i am putting my 21.5" imac up for sale, but it has been recently upgraded to osx lion. i want to reset to factory defaults so that the new user can operate the mac like new, but want to keep the new software. is this possible?
Just to expand a bit: the license for Lion purchased from the app store is NOT transferable, so that is the reason you need to wipe the drive and reinstall the original system. Legally and since you'll be erasing it, you could keep a copy of your system if you like since you paid for your license, but - if you're buying a new Mac, it'll be already installed, so there's not much reason to keep it.

When Firefox is opened, my home page is blank. Bookmarks are still there, & all seem to work except 'myyahoo', which is my home page. Screen is blank below toolbar, etc. Cannot get 'myyahoo' to come up. According to many other questions I read, everyone had some kind of trouble when they updated to Firefox 4; restoring to 3.6.16 seemed to solve the majority of those problems. It did not help me.
When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

I had the problem of not receiving messages after updating to IOS 7. I was finally able to reactivate iMessages after restoring my phone. BUT, is there anyway to receive those iMessages that I couldn't receive for the last 5 days, or are they forever lost in the abyss?
Help! I know there were some important messages I COULDN'T receive while iMessage was messed up!

Nice updates/fixes but what about the reception issue?
Don't want to beat a proverbial dead horse, but what about making the IPhone 4 a better receiver of calls? My 3Gs was the BEST phone I ever owned. I rarely had a dropped call, I was able to make and receive calls in places where no phone I had owned previously could. When I read that this phone had the best reception of any IPhone (according to Apple) I went and made the switch. Yes, I read many posts where folks say just that, great phone. I am on IPhone 4 number three and all have been plagued with reception issues, thought the first two were worse than this one. I go to the same locations every day and the 3Gs sent and received calls remarkably better. Just sayin.....

if you are not using a case then you are just ... idk... slow or something.
because apple put the antenna on the outside of the phone it is easier to attenuate the signal but it also gives much better reception. i have not dropped one call on my iphone 4... i was dropping tons of calls on my 3Gs and i am in the same area.
i have tried to attenuate the signal on my phone and cannot with the case on no matter how i hold it. if i take the case off and hold the sweet spot it drops like crazy. maybe your bumper isn't covering the antenna well enough.
i got the incipio NGP for 19 bucks at walmart. if you put that case on and still have the issue then i think you are totally full of cr@p.

I have 2 iphones, 1 personal and 1 business. I thought I was supposed to have 2 separate itunes accounts. I now have a work ipad and want to only have 1 itunes account that I can use for all 3 devices. How do I cancel 1 account or just combine the 2?
I want to be able to transfer my apps from my original itunes account that I have on my personal iphone 3 and work ipad 3 to my work iphone 4S ,as well as purchase more more apps for the work iphone with the original itunes account. Yes, there are two utilities that I use to perform this task, SuperCrazyAwesome’s iPhone Backup Extractor which is a free utility, and addPod’s Juice Phone, also free. Neither solution will work if you have encrypted your backup files. Both allow you to access the backed up data as if the iPhone was connected to your Mac.

Sun Studio 12 - Memory allocation issue
I am porting an old code from Solaris to Linux (RHEL). The code allocates a large memory block using the malloc() command, but the command fails on Linux when the size exceeds 128 Mb (I have 4Gb of RAM). I have tried increasing the heap size in the n
