our tech guy installed Lion on my boss's computer and we migrated over 2,200 calendar entries from me.com to iCloud. She's now getting audible and visible reminders from 3 years ago as well as current ones. Any thoughts?

Also you can use alternatives to MobileMe like Google Sync or Dropbox (if you need only free storage on a web server).

Possible to re-link files after a near disaster?

A few weeks ago I decided to get organized and began going through my iMac internal hard drive and Hitachhi 320 external hard drive where I keep my Lightroom 3 files and removing the duplicates that I found on the internal hard drive. I wanted to get everything organized on the external hard drive but somewhere along the line the process went wrong and I ended up unintentionally trashing my Lightroom folder on the external drive. This was a major blunder on my part but I was fortunately able to retrieve most of my picture files from a 2nd hard drive.
I decided to use another external hard drive, a Verbatim 500 gig, for my new picture storage location since it already had many of the photo files on it and was somewhat larger than the Hitachi. I also wanted to leave the Hitachi alone in case there was some way to resurrect some of the the erased to file information from it. I started a new catalog and imported these images into LightRoom on the Verbatim.
While most of the older files came through with metadata intact, including keywords and with the image modifications I had made, there are now a large number of blank image boxes with the original filenames plus a “?” Symbol appearing on them. (I have concluded that these are what remains of the erased files from the Hitach) Example: Ecuador_January 172010_2056–2.NEF.
When I click on the ?, I can find on the Verbatim drive what I think is a duplicate of the original file, Ecuador_January 172010_2056–2.NEF. with the only difference being the –2 suffix. However, when I try to get Lightroom 3 to accept it as a valid match, I get the error message : “Already in catalog. The file Ecuador_January 172010_2056–2.NEF is associated with another photo in the catalog. Each file can only be associated with one photo.”
If Is there a way to remove all of the blank image boxes from the Lightroom catalog? And if I did so, would this allow me to get Lightroom to accept that they are the ones that I want to use as matches?
I've also lost all of the collections linkages and clicking on a catalog now also yields just gray boxes with the filenames but no images. I would dearly love to avoid having to go back and re-create all of these catalogs and wondered if there is a way to get the correct linkages back.

Actually, I think some files have been lost in the crash, or corrupted, and as I still have all the original edit in-place, I'm just going to bite the bullet and replace them with the files.
I wish it was possible to re-link folders, rather than individual files inside them.. :( If it can be done, I can't seem to suss it!

How do I recover the music I have purchased after a Windows disaster? Windows on this computer stopped working correctly. I was told by HP support that the registry was corrupted and that I had to re-install Windows and programs from CDs that came with the computer. I did this and Windows started working correctly again. The only trouble is that all of the music I bought is gone. How do I recover the music I have purchased from iTunes after a Windows disaster and after re-installing Windows?
Please tell me that you know about all of my song purchases and that there is a way I can download all of these to this computer again without having to pay for them again.
I have learned my lesson about Windows. In the short run I plan to buy a backup drive that I can plug into this computer that I can restore from if and when something like this happens to Windows again. In the long run I plan to buy an Apple computer the next time I buy a computer.

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you may be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download however they are not under any obligation to do so. The policy on lost songs is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."

-5408 error on all RTSP streams via QuickTime (after a near-disk failure)

Hi Folks.
Today I had a near catastrophic failure on my startup drive: following a simple permissions repair routine, after a shutdown the startup drive failed to mount. It took DiskWarrior to get it back again, but most of my preference files were corrupted. With Time Machine most of these were restored successfully however.
Everything is back in order, except that when I try to connect to any QuickTime compatible RTSP stream, I end up getting a -5408 error.
The streams I am connecting to are from IP cameras which have RTSP and h264. I know they're working fine because I have another MacBook beside me also running 10.6.8 which is pulling them down fine, doing exactly the same thing.
I also know that the streams I am connecting to are using TCP, not UDP. Normally when buffering it starts at about 3 seconds and goes down, but at present it is switching transports immediately and counting down from 8.7 seconds before timing out.
This is happening in any browser with the QuickTime Plugin, and QuickTime Player itself (both the X version and the old 7 version).
So it would seem to me that TCP is being blocked within the OSX system when trying to use port 554. And I do not have firewall turned on.
I know this has been caused by something being affected due to the need for a recovery, but short of installing a clean version of Snow Leopard, I wondered if there was a way of checking transports and seeing if this can be fixed more easily.

Well, given no-one could shed any light on this, I'd like to let you all know that I worked it out myself.
Here's how the story ends:
A few days after the near-disk-death experience, I went to use my Express Card modem to connect to 3G wireless and found that all of my network settings preferences were gone (airport/VPNs etc...). It couldn't even recognise my Sierra Wireless express card at all. This was even after restoring my entire preferences folder in my Home folder using Time Machine, which got most things back to normal.
Some research in these discussion forums found that network settings are not stored in your home folder's library, but on your startup drive's /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder. It has these files in it:
preferences.plist
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.smb.server.plist
com.apple.nat.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
com.apple.Boot.plist
So I used Time Machine to restore an older version of that folder, and hey presto, all my network settings returned.
And then I connected to a page where RTSP wasn't working in via QuickTime, and it worked.
I'm still not sure which file contained the problem with RTSP over TCP, and that still doesn't explain why a different user on this same machine I setup had no problems.
Not that I care anymore, because my MacBook is now back the way it was. It seems...
I highly recommend DiskWarrior for when strange things start happening to your Mac, or if a drive/partition disappears. It can find and restore things that other 'salvage' type disk recovery apps cannot.

Magic keyboard stopped working after latest OS X updates (June 2013)

My iMac: Just performed the latest OS X updates (M Lion) that appeared sometime late May or June 2013. I think the updates were some camera updates and iTunes, and some other things that needed a restart of the computer. After reboot the magic keyboard (that came with the iMac) stopped working. I couldn't enter the password on login screen. Funny thing was the keyboard seemed to be paired with the computer, as the light buttons and the volume buttons worked, but only them, nothing else responded.
Even trying to restart/shut down the computer did not help. Actually shutting down the computer did not work, the spinning thing spun for a while and then the login screen reappeared. No progress.
Fix: In the end I hit the physical power button and forced a shut down. After booting up, the keyboard worked again.
Maybe this can help someone.

Memory on my iphone is still full after deleting nearly all my music

I have an iphone 4 and i recently tried deleting a lot of music so that space was available on my phone. However, now I have deleted the music there has been no change to the memory of my ipod. The bar at the bottom of itunes had a huge chunk for "audio" but now it just seems to have moved it into "other". Can anyone help?

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

How long has it been since the last logic board replacement? Was the previous repair(s) done by Apple directly or via an authorized service provider? If you're on MLB #3 and you're still seeing the same or very similar problems, I'd contact the place that did the service last, especially if it was in the past 90 days.
When you get a repair done through Apple, even if the machine is out of warranty, the service (and parts) carry a 90-day limited warranty. From my experience, Apple is often times flexible on this window as well especially if it's been a repeated repair.

Address Book duplicates, what is duplicated

I have finally cleaned up Address Book after a near disaster with Outlook 2011 for the Mac. I sync with Google Apps and have no duplicates there. I now find after a few days I have 2 duplicates in Address Book but not in Google Contacts. Before I merge these duplicates, is there a way to see what is duplicated and which records have duplicate datad?
PS, Before anyone begins to use Outlook for the Mac, they should backup their Address Book. File>Export>Address Book Achive will do this. Time Machine is another option. I also foud that Outlook makes a mess of notes in a Contact record. I nolonger usse Outlook.

Here is a possibility to consider.
Open Contacts and select the first contact then scroll to the last contact and hold down the shift key and select it. At least for me, the Select All command does not work but the above method should select (highlight) all of your contacts.
Then open Numbers. Do a Command Tab so that the Contacts window is visible above the Numbers window. Click and drag the contacts onto the Numbers window.
Now your contacts are in a spreadsheet and you have a lot of options for formatting.

What happens after reformatting the computer ? ( windows XP )

So i wanted to know what to do in order to backup the iTunes/iPhone sync
i'm guessing there's a procedure to follow ..

If you back up your My Documents folder you will save all of your music plus any other files that you may have created on the computer before the reformat. Note that the iPhone is NOT a backup device; you cannot use it to transfer music between computers or from the computer before reformatting to after.
Some additional advice: DON'T reformat your current disk. Buy a new hard drive and install XP on it. Get a USB enclosure for the old drive so you can easily copy your important data to the new drive. And you will still have it in case of disaster.
BTW, my laptop has been running for 5 years now and I've never had to reformat it. Why do you think you need to?

New MacBook Pro Unibody Jun 2011 - No Audio Device / No Output Device Installed. Please Help.

I have installed OSX Lion on the 20th July 2011 and the problem started with the audio device installed. Itunes wont even play and iDVD and you tube would work without audio. I have tried everything from system diagnostic re-booting back to original snow leopard on 10.6.7 including taking it for service. The audio works intermittently when I re-start my MacBook but eventually disappears back to square one. Until restarted again.
I am still under my 90 days from purchase date and the problem is I am no longer in London where I originally purchased the MacBook from - I moved to Delhi, India with my family and they don't have geniuses here only local service/ technicians who already tried fixing the problem.
Very disappointed after spending nearly £1,600.00 for this.
I don't want to go back to the local service centre for them to restart my MacBook to prove audio device is working.
Is there any other option for me like refund or replacement?

I have updated latest iTunes 10.4.1(10) 64 bit.
I have updated latest OSX Lion: 10.7.1 Build 11B26
Still the problem occurs. When laptop restarts the sound stays for 5-10 min before shutting down intermittently. In iTunes the music will not even run - other applications such as YouTube - it will run but no sound.
I have tried everything now and I am certain it must be a software connected issue I am experiencing only.

Strange Folder appears after restoring Backup

After suffering a disaster and cloning my backup back to my PowerBook, I noticed a folder at the root level named "bin" which contained a bunch of generic docs all of whose names begin with mw. It also contains a folder named Desktop but is not really the Desktop folder for my home folder.
I believe that bin is the name of one or more invisible folders in the System folder. Can anyone explain how it appeared at the root level of my hard drive?

Macbook Pro won't boot up immediately after today's update

I installed the update that auto updater was letting me know needed to be installed today.
It was a Safari update and a security update. (I didn't catch the number but it just became available today)
Now after my Mac rebooted itself it goes no further than the grey screen and the spinning grey wheel. I'm pretty good about keeping my Mac updated regularly.
Anyone have any clues as to what's going on here?
Tried restarting a few times, reset the battery and zapped the PRAM, all to no avail. Also ran Techtool on it and it didn't help either...
Of course Applecare is closed...Has anyone else experienced this?
Something very similiar happened (immediately after an update) back in June but that time I was getting the international prohibitory symbol...that time I had to do an archive and install of the system software. I'm thinking I'm heading in the same direction with this one.
From what I've been reading on these message boards it seems like this happens occasionally and I too was experiencing terrible slowdowns a couple of months ago that were fixed by either a software update or the resetting of the computer battery / PRAM etc.
Isn't it a strange coincidence that this is happening again? Could this be indicative of some worse problems with my Mac? Or is it just a faulty install of the update?

Actually, I fixed it by simply restarting in Safe Mode (Holding the Shift key down upon restart)
It actually took about 10 minutes of holding the key down but eventually it did indeed start in safe mode and I logged in. After doing this, I did a shut down and restarted it repaired what ever directory errors it had. It gave a prompt about repairing something (I didn't catch what it said)
and then it's been fine since then.
AppleCare says with every update there is a small percentage of Macs that don't play nice...
so this time I was the unlucky one, but luckily it was a simple fix.

Re-syncing after re-installation of iTunes (rebuild of PC)

I've just rebuild my PC after a near fatal crash.....all good though - phew
BUT, this will be the 1st time I have synched my iPhone to a new installation of iTunes - reading the setting on the synch control panel, it seems to be saying that if I synch, all data on the iPhone will be replaced with data from the pc - this is fine for contacts, calendar etc as I synch from Outlook.
But will it replace all my apps - i.e with no apps as there are none in iTunes? Or does it pick up the apps from the iTunes folder which has been restored on my pc?

Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards. Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

Msvcr100.dll error after 10 hours of usage of implemented dll

Hey,
I imported a .dll (controls and imports data from a USB device) in a VI. I want to run the VI for a week (7 d). Without the dll and other hardware (which I cant use anymore) via VISA the VI never failed.
With the .dll it aborted two times after 15 to 16 hours and now after about 11 hours.
What could solve this problem? Is it the LabVIEW version or the DotNET version?
Does somebody got the error, too?

Hey,
I got new problems with my VI. It is running for a longer period of time, but again, after a nearly constant time period it shows the error "unknown software exception" (0xc0000417) for the application at position 0x6f07af3e. (see attached file)
The "position" is different every time: before the last error it was at 0x7208af3e.
I updated every component on the Laptop (the PC I used before even rebooted, and LabVIEW not just stopped and showed the error message like on the Laptop now) and LabVIEW itself (all critical updates).
I add the .dll I implemented and some code.
Can someone find a solution or give me a hint?
