TS4002 my incoming mail server is grey??? or greyed out??

my incoming mail server is grey or grey out?? can't send or receive mail on my mac account!! merci!!

Are you using OS X 10.5.7 or 10.7.5?  If you're using 10.7.5 (Lion), it's grayed out because it's automatically configured.  If you aren't getting mail, try going to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.

  • Incoming mail server has changed, but greyed out in Mail, can't be corrected

The incoming mail server for my website's email account has changed, but the incoming server box is greyed out and doesn't allow me to change it to the correct one.  I do not want to delete the account and start again because all mail and contacts associated with the account will be lost.  So far all the suggestions regarding greyed out incoming server boxes have to do with iCloud but while i use iCloud, I don't use it for mail or have an @iCloud email address.  They also involve starting from scratch with Mail, which would be a huge problem for me trying to save all my emails and reconstruct my mailboxes.
What gives with this issue? a lot of people seemed to have it, though I saw no responses later than 2012.  Unlike other people, I can still get my mail, but the server certificate always comes up invalid.  I can tell Mail to trust it, but This greyed out thing is certainly a bug or unintended consequence.  I want to be able to change that field.

Sorry, Guess I solved my own problem anyway.  Perhaps this will help others.  I unchecked "automatically detects and maintain account settings", closed and saved the mail preferences window ( I had also updated my outgoing server info which was not greyed out )  I closed Mail and when I reopened it, the incoming server was no longer greyed out and I could change it which I did.  I may recheck the auto detect box once I have ensured that the port settings are all correct.

  • HT4864 Incoming mail server problem with iCloud . . .

The incoming mail server dialog box is "greyed out" and I cannot type in the iCloud server. Why is this and how can I fix it?

This is a larger problem than the email server: it may be a temporary server glitch or something more serious with your account. Unless you are in a hurry about it I should leave it for a day and see if it sorts itself out. If it doesn't you may need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee: you should point out that this is their problem and that you shouldn't need to pay for it.

  • Mail on OSX 10.7.5  has incoming mail server field grayed out

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

  • My Incoming Mail Server is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

My Incoming Mail Server  for iCloud is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

It easiest way that sometimes solves the problem would be to delete your account from your Mac (system
Preferences... > iCloud) and then to add it back again.

  • TS3988 The correct information in the email address, Full name and Incoming mail server panes are greyed out, and I can get no further in bring my iCloud a/c online. Any ideas? Thanks.

I've just updated and installed Mountain Lion. I've clicked for iCloud for Mail. The correct information in the email address, Full name and Incoming mail server panes are greyed out, and I can get no further in bring my iCloud a/c online. Any ideas? Thanks.

They are grayed out because they are automatically set up whey you check Mail in System Preferences.  If you didn't do that, go back and do so and your iCloud email account will be set up automatically.

  • Using Yosemite My incoming mail server changes by itself and means I can't access my email. When I go to preferences the new incoming mail server is greyed out. I then have to remove the accounts and get new ones.

Using Mail with Yosemite 10.10.2.The incoming mail server keeps changing by itself and means I can't access my mail. I  go to preferences and find that the new incoming server is greyed out .  I then have to remove the accounts and then add them again with the correct server. The incoming server which is greyed out is imap.gmail.com

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account, then go to Advanced and deselect "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

  • TS4002 I cannot edit my incoming mail server name under iCloud

This morning my iCloud email stopped working. When I open the Mail preferences panel and look at the iCloud account, the Incoming Mail Server is listed as "mail.example.com" and is greyed out. I cannot edit this entry to the proper iCloud server name. I can edit my user name and password, but when I try to save changes it tells me that I cannot leave the Incoming Mail Server name blank. Which wouldn't be a problem if I could, you know, change it.
This just started this morning. I noticed that Mail was asking me for passwords that have been in my Keychain for ages, and I had to manually enter them all to get to my email.
My account is working on my iOS devices.
    Tom

Looked around on other threads on Apple Support and found a solution that worked for me.
        - Delete your iCloud account in Mail Preferences, Account tab.
         - Click "+" to add an account
         - Fill in your iCloud name-address-password, then hold Option key down, then click 'Continue'. Holding Option down takes you to a screen you normally don't see!
         - Change the incoming Mail Server from 'mail.me.com' to 'imap.mail.me.com'
         - Proceed creating your account.
    Try!

  • Incoming mail server section greyed out

This is a problem I am having with setting up my iCloud email. The incoming mail server section is "greyed out" and I cannot change or edit it and when I go to save what I've changed Apple Mail says that the incoming mail server cannot be left empty. Any ideas what has caused this?

On a Mac, the server fields are automatically configured, which is why they are grayed out.  If your iCloud mail isn't working, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.  If that doesn't fix things, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac then sign back in.  (This deletes the iCloud account and data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in, after a brief delay as it redownloads.)

  • Why is incoming mail server greyed out and unalterable and mail.app cannot get mail?

I haven't had any iCloud mail for 3 days now. I'm in the UK. When I look at the account settings the incoming mail server shows a greyed out 'p01-imap.mail.me.com'. I've looked at Apples support pages and try as I might I can't configure it as they say I should be able to! Is there a little plist file or something somewhere I need to delete so I can get this thing working again or is it an Apple problem? The UK support pages say iCloud is working. I'm running OSX 10.7.4 on alate 2009 iMac.

I realize that this is a double post, but the info may pertain,
the thread is a little different and may be otherwise missed.
Working with expresslane the issue I was bucked up
to sr. level - they found the problem is 's changeover
to icloud addresses has deleted my primary alternate
but verified email addy as it had an @me suffix. 
replaced this with @icloud but can't as of now restore
the recent mail to that address. I'm told that despite
my MobileMe membership, converted to iCloud, I'm
to lose all my @me and @mac addys. I'd thought they
were grandfathered for us but this may not be true. So,
the issue for me has been explained, though unresolved.
Advice: Beware, be very aware - if you have an old, and
more pretigious, @mac addy. For now, mine still works
but it's my ID so they may let me continue it (?).

  • What do I do if my incoming mail server is greyed out?

Can anyone help me with this iCloud problem?  I am not able to use Email and in i Cloud,  my incoming mail server is greyed out.  I searched the web for answers,  followed their suggestions, to no avail.

Thanks Roger,  I followed those steps, but it is still greyed out.  I seem to be getting some mail,  so I don't quite understand what is going on.  I have an iPhone as well, and mail seems to work fine on it, so I am not totally out of commission. This is just the strangest thing!   Thank you for your quick response to try and help me.  Margaret
