IPad lock screen not responding or won't shut off
HHow can I get to work
Hey Bryan,
For most issues when your iPad is not responding, take a look at the article below to go over some troubleshooting options. Start with holding the Sleep/wake button and home button for about 10 seconds or until you see the Apple logo and test to see if it is responding. After that, if you are still having the same issue where your iPad display is not responding or turning off, then you will want to contact Apple Support to assist you further.

my ipad 2 won't rotate. i tried reseting it severally my "Use Side Switch" is set to Mute and there is no rotation lock sign close to the battery sign in the upper right side
The software switch is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe to the right in the bottom of the screen. The speaker icon on the left would be where the software switch would be.
If you don't see a lock icon in the upper right corner, the screen isn't locked, reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
IPad screen won't rotate.the locks are not on
iPad screen won't rotate. I checked to make sure it wasn't lock. Can anyone help please
Hi,
There are three things you can do.
1) Check the function of the side switch - in the Settings app, under General.
2) Try a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
3) If this fails, take it to an Apple Store.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays! -
My brand new iPad mini won't rotate done factory reset still not working. If I lock and unlock on landscape or portrait it remains in that mode. Any ideas pretty sure I've tried everything suggested such as off/on, reset, reboot, double checked lock off. It did work and I changed wallpaper and stopped motion, not sure if this related
Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. Your iPad will reboot on its own. You will have to enter all of the device settings again, but no data will be lost.
I eould not spend a whole lot more time trying to fix this, if the device is really brand new. I would take it back to where you bought it, bring the box, the charger, the cable and your receipt and if they can't get it fixed, return it and get another one. -
HT4061 my ipad locked up and now it won't turn on
My Ipad locked up on me and now it won't even turn on
I've heard a lot of different theories on how to revive water-damaged iPods. You should search the forums--you will most likely get hundreds of similar posts. Methods I can think of off of the top of my head are:
1. Put in a warm bowl of rice in a warm spot
2. Put on a sunny windowsill for several hours
3. (probably don't try unless you're totally desperate) put in a warm oven on a towel with the door open for a very short time
These are only a few options... if you use the search option you will find many, many more.

My iPad screen won't rotate. The rotation lock is not on and it is out of warranty. I downloaded a gyroscope app and it says that I am always at 0 degrees. What should I do?
Hi,
There are three things you can do.
1) Check the function of the side switch - in the Settings app, under General.
2) Try a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
3) If this fails, take it to an Apple Store.

I have an iPad 2, out of warranty, that won't rotate (one of 150 iPads that are nearing the end of their usage cycle and will be sold at the end of the school year). It is stuck in landscape mode and won't rotate to portrait mode. In an attempt to fix it, I've tried everything short of opening it up: I've done a hard reset, I've done a system restore, and I even ran the battery clear down until nothing would come on the screen when the power button was pushed. Nothing has made any difference. (And no, the screen rotation is not locked, and no, the side switch is set to Mute, not Lock Rotation.)
It makes me think the internal gyroscope is not functioning. Now here's where it gets interesting. I have downloaded the free Gyroscope app, on this and several other iPads for comparison. I can report two significant findings on the iPad that won't rotate properly: (1) All 3 axes of rotation on the gyroscope respond properly; and (2) the numbers on the defective iPad do not agree with the numbers on the other iPads. I.e., sitting side-by-side on a flat, level desk top, a "good" iPad reports Yaw: -173 degrees, Pitch: 0 degrees, and Roll: -1 degrees; while the defective iPad reports Yaw: 3 degrees, Pitch: 16 degrees, and Roll: -32 degrees. That leads me to believe that the gyroscope (or accelerometer) needs to be calibrated. However, I'm not aware of any facility for doing that. And furthermore, it's not clear that this has any bearing on the fact that it won't rotate.
So... any ideas or suggestions? I am not averse to opening the device up, if there is a replaceable part. I haven't been able to find any info about such a task. My only other options are, as far as I know: Send it to Apple for replacement at $249, or sell it at a discount since it is not fully functional. Thanks in advance for any useful ideas. - JRThen you are not the usual user.
If you can disassemble the iPad 2 then you may be able to replace the small custom circuit board containing the gyroscope and accelerometer chips (if you can source the part). -
My iPad Mini won't switch on.
I was playing on an app when all of a sudden my ipad just switched to the lock screen. I typed in my passcode 4 times and it would not let me in. So i locked it and when i clicked to unlock it again the screen never came on. I've tried to restore it on iTunes but it hasnt worked, it keeps saying 'error' and then when i try and hold on the button for it to turn on it won't turn on. I've updated my itunes to the lastest one and everything. Help please!!!
It could be that the battery is completely drained. When this happens an iPad on the charger might not respond for some time. Connect your iPad to the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Wait at least 30 minutes. Then reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot. If the iPad starts up let it continue to charge until the battery is at 100%. If the iPad still does not start make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Won't shutdown or restart unless hard boot - SMCFanControl Application
I have quite a bit of installed hardware so I thought SMCFanControl would be a good idea. However, it seems that I can reproduce a problem I'm having when utilizing the SMC app.
Problem:
1. Won't shutdown or restart unless a power boot is performed
2. Many applications lock up and won't even force quit.
3. Can't reboot locked apps after force quitting when I re-click in dock.
Noticed:
I don't seem to have a problem unless I've at some point started ( or even after I've manually quit ) SMCFanControl. BTW I don't have it to start on login. But once I've used SMC after booting, no matter what, that is when the issues seem to begin. So I tried quitting prior to shutdown. Didn't work.
Question: Has anyone else experienced unexplained lock ups, non forceable quits on apps, no shutdown or startup without boot, whom also has SMCFanControl? Has anyone found a solution to this problem as I REALLY NEED some sort of cooling mechanism. Because without SMC, I'm running about 150 farrenheit and I can't get the room any colder without locking up myself!
P.S. I've tried resetting the PRAM or VRam or whatever Ram is reset when you power up, holding the power button in while then pushing Command, Alt, "R" at the same time until it does that long beep.
The only solution found so far is unnacceptable, which is leaving SMC turned off permanently.
Thanks,
Videoguy_511Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply. Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself. I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative. This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved. I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.} No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine. -
I am having an issue with both Pages and Numbers on my iPad. Whenever I am at the document list page and use "edit" to make a copy of a document or delete it, the iPad locks up. Happens almost every time. Also happens on my iPhone but only once in a while. Thought of completely redoing the iPad, but if it happens on the phone as well, won't help. ???

Help ipad 1 won't start up ?
My Ipad 1 won't start up, after the apple sign I just get a scrolling circle in the middle of the screen. It eventually switches itself off. Any ideas what I can do or is it finished ?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
