That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

    Two options available to you.

    Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library.  Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!
    Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

    java would be loading all static members first and would be assigning default values .. and then will be running all the initializers from to bottom ..

    Because the implementors of Java intentionally chose to do it that way.
    There are TWO stages to the process: preparation (which occurs first) and initialization.
    See the Java Language Spec section 12.4.1 'When Initialization Occurs
    The intent is that a class or interface type has a set of initializers that put it in a consistent state, and that this state is the first state that is observed by other classes. The static initializers and class variable initializers are executed in textual order, and may not refer to class variables declared in the class whose declarations appear textually after the use, even though these class variables are in scope (§8.3.2.3). This restriction is designed to detect, at compile time, most circular or otherwise malformed initializations.
    Note the clause beginning 'may not refer to class variables'. And the authors give the reason for that restriction in the last sentence: detect circular initializations.

    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

    No, "My Number" was not listed in my Phone menu, I had to manually type it it.  Is there a way for that number to automatically be listed in that "My Number" spot?  Would that maybe have something to do with my phone number not being listed as an option in the "Send and Receive" spot under messaging???

    when you start using iCloud on any iOS device and enable find my iPhone, this prevents  a new user from using it, and also prevents anyone from using the phone
    as it is locked to previous owners account ,this is also the case if when a phone is lost or stolen.
    the only way around this is to have the previous owner reset their apple id by going to  @ applied.apple.com
    if they are unable to do this, then the only other way around this is to have the previous owner get  a copy of their original receipt and call apple support who can then lift this lock if they get a copy of the receipt

    Have you talked to your carrier (or your friend to his)?  Could be an issue at their end.

    You are correct. Corrupted files are in the backup. If you've already restored the iPhone it has been erased and starting over is the way to go in order to eliminate the corrupted files.
