TS4009 My apple devices wont back up to icloud since ios6 upgrade

Ive tried everything. Deleting backups, restarting my iphone, plugging it in, undoing the photo stream, deleting photos, everything and anything and it all seems to be that ever since i updated to ios 6, the biggest mistake ever, my iphone and ipad will not back up to the cloud and now i can't even download movies or tv shows from icloud. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions besides trashing my apple products and switching to a better company?

I'm in the same boat. When I'm at home, none of my devices will back up to the cloud automatically. And when I try to back up manually it fails. My sister's 4s and ipad2 and my dad's iphone5 all back up automatically and are running ios6.
Strange thing is, I can back up manually when i'm connected to the wifi at work.
Maybe try connecting to a friend's wifi and seeing if it works. I know its not a solution, but it may work.

Did you ever verify the primary email address associated with her iCloud ID?  Apple should have sent a verification email like the one below to the email address that was used to set up the iCloud account.  You need to click the Verify Now link in the email to verify the address.
Make sure you are check the email address you used to set up your iCloud account.  Also make sure you check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.  If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

If you have several Apple devices feeding to the same iCloud account, is there an amount of storage made per device available free?  So that you are rewarded for the additional devices?
If this multi purchase if devices is not rewarded with a larger cloud storage being available, would it then be best to have several separate cloud accounts?
Would you lose the ability to mesh data between devices???  Of could you choose to share a smaller part of the data and yet save the rest of the device data to their own cloud?  So in other words, split a devices stored data between 2 different icloud accounts?   One community iCloud account for partial data and individual account for data that does not need to be shared with the other devices, however it needs to be backed up.  The simpler solutions would be If you have several Apple devices feeding to the same iCloud account, an amount of storage made available per device (ie: 5 units of storage free per device)
~ So that you are rewarded for the additional Apple devices by giving 5 more units of storage or backup space per device

Nobody here is an Apple employee, and my Christmas Season has been great, thanks very much. Neither am I jealous, I just abhor the fact that so many people these days expect more and more for free, in addition to what they already get for free. First world problems...
Obviously Apple do consider people with multiple devices, since the whole purpose of the service is to keep data in sync across multiple devices. Clearly, after consideration, Apple decided to give 5GB of storage for free and provide customers with the option to buy more storage if they want/need more, in line with competing services.
Everyone has their own set of unique circumstances but does that mean everyone should be rewarded with extras for free? At what point should it be considered acceptable to actually pay for additional extras you want?
And by the way, somebody expressing a different opinion, and discussing people's expectations is not being rude. Aren't you from the country that supposedly takes 'freedom of speech' rather seriously?

  • HT4859 If all devices are backed up on iCloud, do I still need to keep the files on my computer?

If all devices are backed up on iCloud, do I still need to keep it on my computer? It takes up a lot of space.

"iCloud Backup" is a little misleading.
Apple says you get "unlimited free storage for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books" but then goes on to say "previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore". Therefore what you purchased is really not "backed up". Your "backup" is no more than your ability to download your purchases again, and that is nothing new. The content remains where it originated - on iTunes, if it's still available.
Apple could easily change its mind and remove it, change it, or simply make it unavailable.
Photos and videos in your camera roll are backed up, but photos and music that originated on your computer's iPhoto and iTunes Libraries are not.
Your free 5 GB of iCloud storage is also used for iWork documents stored in iCloud, app data, all of which is lumped in with "Storage and Backup".
Same thing for iTunes Match I'm afraid... iTunes Match does not back up your content and is therefore not a backup strategy. It finds a "match" in its vast library and permits you to access it. There have been a lot of complaints from purists who found their mono Beatles tracks were "matched" with stereo equivalents, "explicit" tracks matched with clean, etc.
Contrast this with a traditional backup associated with iTunes syncing. In that case everything really is backed up to your computer - apps, purchases, music, videos, everything.
The bottom line is that iCloud is no substitute for one's own iTunes backup, and a backup / clone of the device containing it.

No. Apple only offers 5 GB of free iCloud storage for all your devices, no matter how many you have got. If you need more iCloud storage, purchase storage.

  • HT204053 If i have safari os x 10.6.8 on my imac 27" and want to back up to icloud should i upgrade

If i have safari os x 10.6.8 on my imac 27" and want to back up to icloud should i upgrade to os x lion?  is there a reason not to do this on my mac?

    Can you:
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Should you upgrade is your decision. If you don't need the advanced features of Mavericks, then there is no reason to upgrade. If you don't use applications that require Mavericks to upgrade, then you don't need to upgrade.
Note that beyond Snow Leopard you won't be able to run PPC-only applications such as Office 2004.

I am puzzled by this. The laptop doesn't need the Apple ID - but iTunes does. I could be missing something but ....
Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

  • How can i fix Connection issues with back to my mac since yosemite upgrade.

Ok I have been having nothing but problems with back to my mac since the upgrade. both machines are using yosemite and I have even reinstalled yosemite on both still having connection issues. anyone else know how I can fix this? I get one of 2 error messages one that says there is a problem connecting and i should make sure screen sharing is active and then another that says the server does not exist. So far to get it working it involves restarting back to my mac or both macs. This is not a good fix since once I disconnect and try to reconnect a few hours later it does it all over again. I am currently in France and needless to say my parents are starting to get really annoyed with constantly having to do things on there end so I can remote into my iMac.Before the yosemite upgrade I maybe had to do this once or twice.

What I have done is open Disk Utility, Repair Permissions, and do that more than once if it returns a lot of errors in the permissions.  Then Restart the Mac.
Also, go to System Preferences > Spotlight and try turning off a couple settings such as search suggestions...these things are taking a lot of resources now.

  • My iphone 5 wont back up to icloud

I have read a few posts on here with users having the same issue, that their phone won't create a back up to icloud. Now, I have deleted the partial imcomplete back up, there is no back up for my iphone on icloud, i have 20gb worth of icloud storage and my iphone is significantly less than that. When i attempt to create a back up while plugged into my computer and connected though itunes, it fails, and automatically stops. when i try from my phone, it stays on "backing up...", the bar doesnt move, and it stays on "estimating time remaining..." with no progress. I am hoping to have this issue resolved as soon as possible, as I hope to be able to load all of my content to my new phone on the release date. what can i do to fix this?

    Hey ryannboyd,
Thanks for the question. Since this is the first backup you are making, it may take a while to complete. Once you have a running backup in iCloud, future backups will only apply “changes” and should be much quicker:
iCloud: Troubleshooting creating an iCloud backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3992
My backup is taking a long time to finish.
Backing up and restoring takes time, especially if you have a lot of data or a slow connection. Depending on the size of your backup and the speed of your network, you may need more time than expected to complete the process. Using a reliable connection when backing up your device is highly recommended.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPad wont back up to iCloud

Hi my husbands iPad 2 running ios 7.0.6 will not back up to iCloud.
The back up is going to be 1.6 GB.  He has 2.3 GB available on iCloud.
When I start the back up it says it will take 30 hours !
There is no Camera Roll, Mail, Photos to back up, just his calender and a few games.
When I back my iPad up which has masses of data on it takes a few minutes.
Why would this take so long?
    Thank you for any help.

Thanks for your email and help. Some clarifications:
Yes, I have paid for itunes match.  I have only a few songs on my ipad.  The majority of them are on my PC which is where I manage my itunes accoiunt from.  My ipad streams songs on demand from itunes match.
Yes, I have also paid for extra space in icloud backup storage - I have bought the additional 10 GB
My ipad is a 64 GB ipad 3 device, UK model. NB I have upgraded it to IOS6. Therefore settings/general/usage/icloud-manage storage does  not exist as a valid string.  However under settings/icloud/storage & backup/ total storage it shows 15 GB and under available it shows 9.9GB
Under settings / general / capacity it shopwes 57.2 gb and under available it shows 19.1 GB
I do have some large photos and videos on the device.  Is this likely to be the issue?
Thaks to all for your help.

  • My Apple devices wont download apps anymore. Please help!

I have the iPod Touch 5th generation and iPad 2nd generation. Since about a week ago, I haven't been able to download any apps on either device. In the app store, I'll tap 'Install', it'll ask for my apple ID, the usual. It loads untill it say 'Open' (still in the app store), but when you tap 'Open' nothing happens. When you go to the home screen, you'll see that the app actually didn't download and is no where to be found. Both devices are up to date on software updates (iOS 7.1.2) and iCloud backups. I have tried logging in and out of my iTunes account. I have never had this problem before (I've had my iPod for over a year and the iPad for 6 months). PLEASE help if you can! I really need this fixed as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!

Try the following on one device. If it's successful, do the same for the other.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • How do I setup all my Apple devices for home sharing, messaging, icloud??

I have FINALLY gotten the last of the Windows machines out of my house... we're 100% Apple now!
I have the following Apple stuff:
MacBook Pro(my AppleID) -- an iPod Touch and an iPod Nano are sync'ed to  iTunes on the MacBook Pro for music.
    MacBook Air(wife's AppleID)
    iPad Mini
Haven't yet drunk the Kool-Aid on an iPhone yet but I'll probably get there eventually.
I have AppleID's for myself and my wife.
At this time we are making no use of iCloud.
Does anyone have any guidelines for setting up Facetime, iMessage, iTunes, iCloud given that I'm now 100% Apple and I want to be sure I get as much out of the compatible technologies as I can?  We're talking multiple products being used by multiple people.
I understand  home sharing as it relates to iTunes where I sync my ipods to the music database on the MacBook Pro.  But am unsure how to relate the two AppleID's to each other so that if I buy software for one MacBook, the other is entitled to use it too.
    Appreciate knowledgeable input on this.
    Thanks,
