TS4009 My iCloud is taking forever to backup, why?

Why is my first iCloud backup taking forever?

An iCloud Backup (at least the first one or ones after any major changes) can take a long time.
It is entirely dependent on the amount of data being backed up, plus the speed of your internet connection. If you have many gigabytes to backup and a slow upspeed it will take a long time.
Buying iCloud Storage space will not increase the capacity of your phone.

is there a fix for this prob

I was having same problem w/ my new ipad. I opened iTunes instead, went to the free song for the week & proceeded to download. Same window popped up but the terms & conditions uploaded w/ minimal wait.
Then I was able to return to app store & download whatever.
    Hope same works for you!

  • Iphone taking forever to backup

Can anyone tell me why my iphone 3G is taking up to 8hrs or longer to backup?

woah woah woah, i thought all iphones took 10 - 24hrs to back up! I've had several generations and they've taken longer and longer as I've owned them.
I have a brand new high end PC since I've also upgraded computers over the years of owning iPhones, and each PC, even this blazing new one takes forever to back up the iPhone.
Right now my 3GS 32GB is backing up and its been going 12hrs, only 40-something% through. I started to look into this and found some information in the task manager of Windows 7 where it shows you the detailed processes that are happening. It looks like the only thing that's active is from 2 - 6 Mbps of "Network I/O" activity using the Apple backup process! What??
I looked at the actual data on the Ethernet port and there is 0 data moving around, so its definitely the backup for some reason using a network IO to send data to the PC.
Can someone fix this problem? My iPhone has now activated my morning alarm, and there's no way to turn it off, just "snooze" plus my screen has been on all night from the backup. I feel backups may actually kill my iphone and drive me insane.

  • Time Machine taking forever to backup

I am using a mid 2009 MBP running OSX 10.9 and my TC is model A1355. I've been noticing the past week or so it hase been taking extra long to back up. I am backking up over Wifi which is what I've always done and have never had this problem. Not sure why it has been taking so long. Please help.

After a new OS install, TM can and will take a very very long time. It has to backup a whole new OS and its endless 10000s new files.
An alternative, is take another drive (blank and unused) and create a new TM backup,...that will go very FAST
    (did same twice myself).

  • IPAD taking forever to backup

    Hi
I am trying to update my OS on Ipad (32gb 3g/wifi) from 3.1 to 4.3. During the backup phase, it just takes a long time for the Ipad to backup. The backup status bar on Itunes just move ever so slowly. It took 5 hours for it to move halfway and then I gave up and cancelled it. I have about 30-35 apps with total used space of about 2-3gb only. Before updating the software on my Ipad, I updated the software on my Iphone 4 and it took only 30 minutes. All my apps are updated almost daily. My questions are:
    1. What is causing the Ipad to backup so slowly? How to speed it up.?
    2. If a particular app is slowing the process, how do i identify the culprit app?
    3. Is there a way to update the software on ipad without the backup process? It seem to get started automatically and when I stop it pressing X, the update process ends?
I am using a Lenovo laptop with i3 processor, 4gb ram and enough hardisk space with installed windows 7.
    Appreciate your help.
    kind regards

There is already a long thread on this subject. It seems there are many possible causes and a few possible fixes: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13243382&#13243382

  • IPhone taking forever to backup during each sync since 2.0

So when I plug into sync it used to take about a minute to do everything, I could unplug and go. Now every time I plug it in it says "Backing up "my phone"" for about 15 minutes?? Anyone else experiencing this?

Backups will also be slowed down if there have been a bunch of crashes (apps or system) on your iPhone. The Backup is transferring all the crash reports to the Mac and then to Apple.
Way back when a dialog came up telling you it was doing this along with a box (already checked for you) saying "Don't Show This Again".
If you want to see if this is your issue, then connect the iPhone to your Mac, fire up iTunes if necessary, right-click on the iPhone device line in the column on the left and select "Reset iPhone Warnings" from the pop up menu. The next time you sync the iPhone, if there is a crash report to Backup and transmit to Apple that dialog will pop up again telling you that's the case. Be sure to clear the "Don't Show This Again" check box each time to make sure you see this dialog when crash reports are being transferred from the iPhone.
You can also look in the Console utility application in the Crash Report section to see the collection of crash reports that have been brought in to date from your iPhone.

  • Forever to  backup iphone - original

I have the original iphone and its taking forever to backup the phone - after the 2.1 download. Anybody else having this problem???? thanks

not sure if it is the same problem or not -- while the back does seem to take a while, it does speed up if you can manage to let it run one full time. after that, however, you may find yourself in a similar situation: iTunes continually wants to restore my iPhone from the backup. every time I connect it!
any one find a fix for this?

  • I'm backing up my new iphone 5 from icloud and it's taking forever to download my photos. It being going for four days. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm backing up my new iphone 5 from icloud and it's taking forever for my photos to download. It's been going for 4 days. It's downloaded 1400 out of 1900 photos. Am I doing something wrong?

I think you may not using the right technical terms.  When backing up to icloud, there is no way you'd get a message saying things will be wiped.  This message may be displayed when you are performing a RESTORE from a backup and then trying to cancel it.
If you are doing a restore, then you can reboot and restore again.

  • Okay so I just got a new MacBook and I'm setting it up. I decided to not download all of my files to iCloud drive and its taking forever to load to the next page. Is this normal for it to take so long? After all I didn't even download my stuff?

why is it taking forever to load!?

The files you are loading into the new computer are by wi-fi? If you have no other option
that may be OK but slow. A faster method would be Ethernet cable from internet router
or modem, instead of wireless. Most of the setup process can take some time.
What are these files? Where are they now?
Do you have a backup on-site, & not online?
Did you check to see if the operating system was updated as part of the setup before use?
The Software Update can locate later parts to the as-shipped system, that may be needed.
Other upgrades or new apps are through the Mac App Store, some through App Store, etc.
As part of the setup, you could use a migration assistant if you have a backup from the old
computer or have other files saved in an external hard drive to import.
Hopefully your process won't be drawn out too long...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • First backup is taking forever (more than two days) in my MacBook Air

First backup is taking forever , painfully slow, I am using MacBook Air, what can I do to speed things up. is there a particular way to set TC up ?? I set it up to join an existing wireless network, is this right or wrong? I just need a few tips to make the backup faster.

Answer: yes, the Time Capsule is junk - in my opinion. I was excited about an all-in-one router plus 1TB of backup wirelessly available, but if you check the many posts about this thing, you'll hear about numerous problems:
    - unbelievably slow backups, overnight or longer for the first, very long for even small backups after minor activity - and not necessarily due to network speeds.
    - heat issues - this thing runs very hot, even with fans running, and people have had to put little rubber feet under it to improve airflow, etc. - not something I think is reasonable for a $500+ item - some get an "overheating" message from the utility app.
    - problems with hanging - it hangs on "Preparing Backup" (as it did for me for days) and doesn't backup - thereby making the unit useless as it was designed.
    - mounting and recognition issues - not so much with me but for quite a few others.
SEND IT BACK... I am sending mine back and going back to manual backups where I can see exactly what is being backed up to my external HDD and where it is. The opaque nature of the entire Time Machine backup is irritating to me - TC was "backing up" say, "75MB of 125.3MB" but I had no idea what it was backing up, and why only 125.3MB? Was that all my activity changed during the session? Or all sorts of system files, etc. being backed up? I'm not techie enough to get into the guts of it, so I am going back to my usual external HDD to do it by hand. It's a good habit to get into (if inconvenient compared to the TC) but at least I am secure with it.
I am also not sure if TC can be used as a plug-and-play USB storage drive if I were to, say, just connect it to a Windows machine and try to access files in folders. I suppose not?

  • I am running my first time machine backup onto a Western Digital MyBook Live.  It is taking forever.  Is there antivirus software running in the background or any other settings I need to change to speed it up?  Also I am on a wireless network.

I am running my first time machine backup onto a Western Digital MyBook Live.  It is taking forever.  Is there antivirus software running in the background or any other settings I need to change to speed it up?  Also I am on a wireless network.

The initial Time Machine backup can certainly take a long time over wireless. Days, possibly. It's impossible for anyone here to be able to predict how long it will take, and wireless environmental conditions can change at any time.
Is there antivirus software running in the background
Only you can determine that. If you're using third party AV software, anything is possible.
NAS devices may not be compatible with Time Machine, regardless of what their manufacturers may claim. Even after the Time Machine backup completes, your backup may be unreliable. You may not discover that until you need to rely upon the backup for some reason, and corruption can occur months or years from now.
Time Machine supports the following backup configurations:
    A locally mounted volume
    Time Capsule
A volume resident on a USB hard disk connected directly to a Time Capsule or current production AirPort Extreme Base Station.
That's it. Any configuration other than the above list places you in an experimental category. If your backup fails, you're on your own.
