I recently purchased my new iPad. I am a Realtor and I take tons of photos. I thought I would have massive storage available. I already upgraded once. Few weeks ago and now it is telling me I cannot take more pictures without upgrading again. I was forced to upgrade, but it makes no sense that I see I have space available , yet I need to upgrade. Also confused between photo stream and photos. any help is appreciated. The apple store is chaotic, loud, and overhelming.

The photos you take on your iOS device will be added to photo stream, photo stream saves the last 30 days photos and up to 1000 photos. None of these photos count towards your storage allocation (free 5GB), nor can you purchase any more storage for photo stream.
I myself am a commercial estate agent, I find photo stream extremely useful. I'm not sure whether you are using it in the same way as I am, but I do not encounter any problems because of the storage available to me.

Purchasing additional storage only applies to iCloud, not to the phone itself. You cannot purchase additional storage for the phone, only purchase a larger capacity phone. If you have deleted all of the content that you can, then that is all of the space that you have. What is it exactly that you are trying to do? Does this have to do with space for performing an OTA update of the iOS?

Let me expand on this: I have 570 photos in a slide show and all are properly referenced in my library. In the slideshow window, I can see all the pics in the bottom box and when I run "preview slideshow", certain pictures don't appear in the top box whilst the curser moves across the picture in the bottom box. Likewise, if I run the full screen slideshow, that picture(s) does not appear (I have a blank screen); the next picture does show up, howerver... Hello Tony and thank you. I regenerated and rebuilt thumbnails; I deleted the slide show and rebuilt it; nothing works. Now, I noticed something weird. All pictures are in an Aperture project and are properly referenced as I said; all the pictures in this project come from a old iPhoto project where some of the pictures are in a "Modified" folder, others in an "Original" project; it is all the pictures in the "Original" project that don't show up in the slide show.... Do you have any idea what I should do?

The icons in the Dock are aliases. If iPhoto isn't launching from the dock the alias may be broken. What you can do is first test to if iPhoto is working by launching the app from the Applications folder. Once you have determined iPhoto is OK then remove the old Dock icon by holding it down and dragging it to the desktop, it will disappear in a puff of smoke. Then go to the Applications folder and drag the iPhoto icon to the Dock and test it.

Not being able to back up to iCloud can be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail. To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup. Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail. To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again. If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again. If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again. If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails. Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

You cannot buy additional storage for your iphone at all.
You can contact itunes support and ask if they will allow a refund.

Why do some photos not appear in the book I am creating?

I am composing two books at the moment and will want to order them shortly.
The problem I have is that, sometimes the photos do not appear when you drag them into the book - it just shows an exclamation mark. However if you look at the layout in the top section, it appears.
The photos not showing are either very high-res digital pictures from a professional photographer or scanned photos, but the scanned ones are of similar (OK) quality and identical resolution to others which are visible.
I am worried what will happen when I go to order the book - will these pictures not upload?
Does anyone know why this is happening or a fix?

sometimes the photos do not appear when you drag them into the book - it just shows an exclamation mark.
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Why will my Imac not shut down unless I force it off

I have 10.58 version and lately it is not shut down unless I force it by holding power off. How can I correct this.? Also, I get a continuous spin when I select share folder in my system preference so I can select share internet. I have Verizon mobile broadband.

We'd need to see them posted here to see if it was a problem, but if it isn't repeating in Console now as it's open, hen likely not a problem.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Shut Down problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

Just wanted to update the community on my exciting adventure to fix my ipad;
I made my way over to the Apple Store here in South Florida and had my appointment with the geniuses. No one could figure this sucker out! They did every thing they could think of to the ipad without success. Couldn't even tell me what the problem was. All were very nice about it, of course. I was told to wait a day while they contacted the great and powerful central genius(es) but apparently no one was home there since they never responded to the request for help.

How do I get my IPad to show up in wifi networks? I purchased a data plan and have looked through settings but cannot find even using other networks setup.

Wifi is not the same as a cellular data plan.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Because the text frame containing "Here at Mickel Log Home Services, we take videos to give you a visual experience of we we do here." line breaks differently in different browsers. It's three lines in Firefox and probably in Muse and 2 lines in Chrome. Since every browser has it's own text layout engine, these sorts of differences are unavoidable.
However, you can plan ahead for these variations by being very aware of text frame heights in Design view.
If a text frame is exactly the height of the text in Muse Design view, then if line breaks change in the browser and the text frame need to be taller, it will grow and shift things below it down. In your layout because of how the picture frames are done versus the videos this results in the videos being pushed down but not the frames.
The easiest fix is to simply make the text frame one line taller than the amount of text displayed in Muse Design view. This will reserve enough exra space for the text frame that if/when it line breaks to be one line longer in the browser it will still fit in the designed height and nothing below will be moved.

Why do my photos not show for come projects?

I have an Aperture folder containing 9 projects and about 1500 photos. All photos appear when I click on the folder, but do not appear when I click on 7 of the 9 projects (they used to). Also the Info and Adjustment views are blank The photos appear for each of the 9 projects in iPhoto and the photo count shows the same number (with a few minor differences) in Aperture and iPhoto.
Any help would be appreciated. Would repairing the Library help?

I'm hitting a similar, rather scary bug in Aperture which I expect is behind your issue as well.
*** I've found that as soon as I drag a project in to or out of a folder in the library window, all the photos in that project disappear. ***
Aperture is somehow losing the link to the images when you drag the project somewhere. You can still see the images if you click on the folder (or indeed on the overall "Photos" item at the top of the library list) but not when you select the project itself.
You cannot drag the images from the folder into the old apparently empty project, I guess because Aperture thinks that's where they already are.
I did manage to recover things by creating a new project and dragging the images into there, then deleting the old project. But this bug means that I cannot organise my projects in any useful way - I have to leave them exactly where I created them.
Organising my library is now fraught with danger, so if anyone has found a solution to this I'm keen to hear it.
I'll keep working on it and try and find the cause and/or a fix.
I'm using Aperture 3.5.1 on a Mac Pro 2011 running 10.9.4. Library is stored on an SSD. Images are stored in the library file/package rather than referenced.

However, when I open the folder indicated by the article, the photos are NOT there.
The last time my Photo Stream folder updated was April 2014. For awhile, my photos were uploading to a folder called iCloud Photos, with a sub-folder called Photo Stream. The last time that one updated was September 2014. I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS.
So, again, I ask - why aren't my photos synchronizing with my laptop via Photo Stream? I have to connect the phone with a WIRE to my laptop and then I can backup my photos. (Which I do frequently, anyway, in order to save the photos permanently.)
Why don't you guys invent something like Flickr - that AUTOMATICALLY synchronizes photos from my extremely expensive iPhone 6 to my other devices? That would be so handy.
Sorry for being annoyed, but it's annoying. Every time I try to do something with a photo, I have to figure out how to get it off my phone. I email, message, download, save to Dropbox, save to Flickr. It's ridiculous. If Photo Stream worked, I could just use that - it would be so SIMPLE I might actually be able to get to the project, instead of wasting time messing with the stupid photos.

Why are my photos not as sharp when I import them into Facebook from the Aperture Projects file, compared to when I 'share' them with Facebook within the Aperture programme? There is a noticeable difference and has been spoiling my photos for some time.

Hi all, I take wildlife photos (mostly birds) as a hobby, and have become frustrated with the quality of my photos recently when shared online, particularly Facebook.
I started blaming my camera ( a Canon 7D) as I changed it a few months ago from a Canon 550D, and I soon noticed that the images were not as good. Then I realised it was when I started using Aperture.
I started by using the 'share' option within Aperture but I soon realised that then I have no control over the creation of an album, and the photos start appearing on facebook before I have finished uploading them and given them captions. Plus if I subsequently move them or export them to my back up drive then they disappear from Facebook!
So I started creating albums within Facebook and then importing the photos from the aperture projects file on my computer. Because they are imported I can then delete or move the aperture file and the photos stay on facebook. Otherwise my macbook was becoming completely full.
However to test my theory I have today uploaded the same photo edited in Aperture stored in the same projects folder using the two different methods described above, and there is a very distinct difference between the quality of the two images. The shared ones are very much sharper than the imported ones.
I am a computer novice and don't know how to check what the quality settings are, or how to adjust anything to improve the way the photos go into facebook. I do have a manual but I just cant understand it :-(
I have tried a free sample of Lightroom 5 and my photos look amazing, there is such a difference, but I don't want to give up with Aperture unless the problem really can't be solved.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
1. Right click images you want to share.
2. Select Export version.
3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
See how you go.

Running Win7 on my PC. Photos taken on Ipad or Iphone 5 used to upload automatically. Updated to Iphone 6 and they no longer do so. Have checked all settings and they appear to be in order. Any reason they should not upload to the photo stream?

I found the problem. AS it turns out, when I created my iCloud account I eneded up creating a NEW ID. The process is a little bit confusing and it is apparently easy to get one ID on the iCloud on your iMac and another on your iPhone. This is what I had done. It was a simple matter of signing out of iCloud on the Mac and then signing back in wiht my original Apple ID (the one on the iPhone) once I signed backin, pictures starte appearing in the Photo Stream. Easypeasy!
