i need to restore my phone with my icloud backup. my phone had to be set up as a new phone to install the newest opperating system , now i can not retreave my old information backed up in icloud

To restore from your iCloud backup, go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go through the setup screens on your phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Be sure it is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.

I thought I was doing everything right by backing up my old one first... now Im scared I lost everything including a lot of very important pictures.. PLEASE HELP!!

    Restore from the backup!
You password: You have set it! It might be your passcode or you mioght have set it accidentally, so test all of the passwords you normally use. If you cannot get the password you backup is lost, but you can still sync your iTunes content.

  • HT4859 How do I restore my new phone from my old phones icloud backup?

I have a new iphone 5 and I am trying to restore my old iphone storage from my Iphone 4 I backed it up yesterday. I only will restore from itunes on a previous year old computer backup. Help please...

To restore from an iCloud backup you have to first erase the phone.  Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • Ive got a new iphone, backed up the old phone now when i go to restore the new one from the old it wants a backup password - i dont know it

im trying to restore my new phone from the old phone backup but it asks for a backup password - ive tried everything but no luck with the password

If you don't know the password to decrypt the backup, it can't be restored to any phone, including the old one.  You had to enable backup encryption and create password at some time in the past or maybe the backup is not from your old phone...

Select setup as "New", the next screen should prompt you to rename your phone. Just name it what you already have it named. After that, you should be able to sync and all of your data & settings will still be exactly as you've already set them up on your phone. The message is more threatening than what really happens.

You were already provided the answer. If you do not have a backup of the phone while the photos were on the phone, they are gone. When you restore your phone from an old backup, anything that has been saved to the phone since that backup is deleted. Sorry.

  • I need help. Recently I purchased the iPhone 5C. I restored my new phone from my icloud backup. However, my pictures did not restore. I do not understand what is going on but I would really love to get my pictures back as soon as possible. Help. Please?

I really need the help. Thanks.

If you are upgrading from and old phone and still have the old phone, the easiest thing to do would be to import the photos from your old phone to your computer, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
If not, and all you have is the backup, about all you can do is try restoring the backup again, or try restoring an earlier backup of your old phone if one is listed.  If you have to restore the same backup, be sure your phone is near your wifi router and connected to your charger so there won't be any interruption in the wifi signal.  You might also want to try the approach posted by ezjules here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This basically involves opening the camera roll on your phone after the phone restarts during the restore process and leaving it that way until the restore is done.  This seems to have worked for some people.

  • Need to Restore as NEW phone....best way to "backup" photos

I am having trouble with my battery life. Genuis Bar helped determine best course of action was to restore IPhone and start as new and NOT restore from backup. I did  just that, but noticed I could not seem to reload all my photos that were backed up on ICloud.
So, I restored again, and did restore from backup and got my pictures (and text messages) back.
Now I want to figure out where to "save"/backup my photos and to a lesser extent, my SMS messages so I can again attempt to restore the Iphone as NEW and not from a backup and then get ALL the pictures back on the phone...

Without a backup, your text messages won't be back on your iPhone. You can, however, import your photos to your computer and then sync them over from iTunes.

  • Why can't I restore my new phone from my last backup?

I broke my old iPhone 3G (16GB) so today I went to the Apple store, and got a new one for free by setting up an AT&T account (this free iPhone 3G is 8GB). I got home, plugged it in my laptop, and wanted to transfer my stuff from my old phone over to my new one so I clicked restore from last backup. When I did so, I got this error message: iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored. How do I fix this? I need to restore from my last backup but apparently it's corrupted?! Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Nope I looked on devices preferences and it's the only one. I've tried multiple ways to solve this problem but none seem to work... Could it be because my old phone was jailbroken?

  • How do you restore a 'new phone' from your previous phone iCloud?

I got a new iPhone 5 today after smashing the screen on my old one. I needed to use it straight away and wasn't connected to a wifi so i wasn't able to restore using iCloud, I set it up as a 'new phone'. How do I restore it now from my previous phone backup?
    Thanks

Restoring to an iCloud backup has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • I recently received my new iPhone 4 from my carrier since my old one was stolen. I restored my new iPhone from my old iPhones iCloud back up but now all the pictures that were stored in my old phone are blurry in my new phone. Please help!

Luckily, using the "Find My iPhone" app, I was able to scare the thieves into bringing my iPhone back to the place they stole it from (Dave and Busters..on my BIRTHDAY OF ALL DAYS). So now, $169 later (deductible for replacement iPhone), I have both my 1st iPhone and my replacement. On my first iPhone, I have all of my pictures saved and they are very clear, but when I restored my replacement iPhone from my original iPhones iCloud backup, all the pictures that I took in my original iPhone are blurry! I thought about backing up my original iPhone through iTunes and then resetting my replacement iPhone and restoring it from my original iPhones settings but I dont want to lose all of my new pictures I took. I know this sounds confusing (well, it looks confusing, since you cant actually hear me) but I could use all the help I can get!

I have recently updated my software on the new iPhone and when it backed up it backed up to the old iPhone
No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

I can't get my work email onto my Droid X.   Anyone know the trick?
First quesiton I have is do you have authorization to access your work email from your Droid X? Just knowing the email address and password is enough for you to get your personal email, but your employer must approve remote access.
If it's okay with your employer, you may also need to know the incoming and outgoing email server addresses, the port number, and your username on your employer's email server. If you're not sure what they are, check with your IT admin AFTER you get confirmation that it's okay to get your email.

  • HT1199 I needed to restore my Imac (lion) from a Time Machine backup on a peripheral HD.  Everything woirked fine except none of my Pictures showed up and my TM backups were all erased.  Any way to recover??

I need to perform a complete restore of my IMac from a stand-alone HD Time Machine backup.  The restore was to the internal HD in the IMac.  The IMac is a new Intel i5 unit running Lion.  The restore went fine except none of my picture files appeared.  My external HD is partioned into a Time Machine Back Up and a Stoarge partion.  All the TM back ups prior to the restore are gone and the external storage was wiped clean.  3000 photos from our African Safaris are gone.  Any ideas on if they can be recovered from either the external storage drive or the internal HD?
Where did the older TM BUs go?
    Thanks for any advise

    Hello:
I don't know what you did, but there must have been some option to clear the external HD.  To my knowledge, restoring from a Time Machine backup will NOT clear the external HD.
Since I was not there, I really cannot speculate on what happened:

In any event, there are third party tools that will attempt to recover data from erased drives (the erase normally deletes pointers, not the actual data).
