TS4045 thunder bolt cable flickers external screen

I have a thunderbolt/ mini display port cable and when pluged into either my tv or LG external monitor (via HDMI cable), the screen will occasionally go black for 15 seconds then come back?  The cables are not pinched so I think it's the port.  The computer is still under warranty but Apple wants money just to talk to me.  Any suggestions?

Are you still getting this problem John? Mine was working fine and all of a sudden started showing this black bar.
Mine will also work fine on a lower resolution, it's only on 1920 x 1080.
Did you find a solution?

  • S10e: Flickering External Screen

I have bought an S10e in Germany, black version with 160 GB HDD, 1.5 GB RAM. But since it might be depending on the design, it might hold for the other netbooks as well.
When plugging an external display to my netbook, it starts to flicker (lines like if you have configured a wrong phase at your screen). After changing the position of the wire the flickering is getting better, but after a while, step by step, it returns. I already tried out several external screens (such as 19", 22", 24") with different resolutions. Especially with dark colors it is really annoying.
Has anybody some idea? I assume that it is in cause of the close placement of the plug to the ACplug... Thanks

    Solved!

Finally, it worked out with changing to a brand new, shorter and with two noise filters attached cable.

  • IMAC and external screen--screen flickering and erratic mouse behavior

I have purchased a screen Medion 25.5 inch to connect it to my IMAC 27 inch.
I have noticed two unexpected behaviours:
    - from time to time, after the IMAC comes out of the SLEEP mode, the external screen is flickering, I need to put the IMAC to sleep one or several times before the display of the external screen becomes stable.
    - since I connected the external screen, the behavior of the mouse is highly erratic, eg when I move the mouse by a fraction of a millimeter, the display of the mouse pointer moves by half a screen, or even disappears completely. I have performed many tests, with several apple mice, a Dell mouse and a Microsoft mouse. As soon as I completely disconnect the screen (not only power the screen down) the mouse works normally again. I have now decided to stop using the external screen until a software update resolves the situation.
    Any advice?
    Patrick

When my 2008 24" iMac started to die from overheating, two of the symptoms I would see would be white flickering from the bottom going about half way up, like it was going blank and repainting the screen over and over. Also, the mouse pointer would jump erratically to all the edges and corners of the screen. After a few seconds, it might recover or it might freeze. I would use a program like iStat Pro to see what your temps are when you attach that screen. I suspect it may be excess heat due to the GPU now pushing two screens instead of 1?
Also try diags, and all those reset thingies people keep mentioning over and over.

  • White screen, battery with a blue thunder bolt

Hi, I cannot power on my berry. I keep getting a white screen with a battery with a blue thunder bolt through it. Fixes I have tried: -plugging it in to charge through the wall, computer and car, no difference -bought a new battery, no difference It will not power on so I can even reload the OS or anything. Please help and restore faith in your company.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
    Lastly, though:

  • External Screen MAD DOTS (MBP13 minidisplayport DVIcable Samsung2333HD)

Hello all who can help me,
I have a macbook pro 13 with a Mini displayport DVI adapter and a dvi cable to a samsung 2333HD.
There appears to be flickering MAD DOTS all around the external screen, and the screen flickers once in a while. Also, when i click on 'mirror screens' the darn thing goes REALLY BIZARRE and i get a headache - you can't even see anything on it !
I know it's not the adapter or the cable cos i tried the same set up on another external samsung computer LCD screen (the 2333HD is a TV/monitor)and that worked perfectly fine.
Does anyone know how to stop the flickering MAD DOT things?
    The details are as follows:
    External Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD
    Detected Display settings: 1920X1080
59.5Hertz ( the only other option on my mac was 60 Hertz and that made the external screen go mad)
Interesting thing is if i set it to say 800x600, there are no dots.. a sign that it's not the adapter's problem as well?
Eurgh. Also, the MBP 13 makes a weird clicking sound near the optical drive, but THAT'S FOR LATER.
    Best.

  • Satellite P750 - Unable to connect external screen via VGA port

    Hello All,
    My problem is following:
I have been trying to connect my P750 (running on W7 x-64) to an external screen using the VGA port/cable. Unfortunately the external devices does not recognize my laptop. Laptop does recognise the external screen, you can see it in the graphic settings as additional display, but the screen says "no signal".
The computer always identifies the screen correctly, so it looks like there is communication from the screen to the PC, but not the other way round.
This has been checked with 3 separate screens and a TV - always the same. All the screens work properly with different PC's.
    I already did:
    - try to play with FN+F5 / "windows"+P buttons - no change
    - install the latest BIOS and Video drivers from Toshiba website - no change
Any suggestions how to make it work? Is it possible that the VGA port is faulty?
    Thank you in advance.

Hello and thank you for the tips,
I did try the options you suggested unfortunately with no success.
I actually got myself HDMI cable and this connection is working perfectly well. Luckily the very screen I want to attach my laptop to does have HDMI port. It is just a bit annoying to know that the d-sub port seems to be useless.
The lady from Toshiba tech support call centre suggested either OS re-install or sending it to Toshiba for repair/check as it is still under warranty. None of this options suites me at the moment, so I will probably stick to the HDMI. Still, I have a feeling it is a software rather than hardware problem.
    Cheers

  • Connecting HP 2311x display to new macbook pro Retina - no output on external screen

I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15 in. with Retina display.  I also have a HP 2311x monitor.  When I plug in the HDMI cable, the external monitor says "check video cable" and the preferences "arrangement" thinks there is a display - even recognizes the type - but the external display just wont display anything but the "check video cable" box.  I spent 2 hours on with apple yesterday, they had me do all sorts of resets and stuff - but no luck.  The HDMi cable works when connecting a pc to the screen.  When connected to by macbook, the screen on the macbook likes to flash black and its annoying.  I have gotten really used to working with two screens....  and apple's suggestion was to buy a thunderbolt cable and try that.  As it is, with this new macbook I have to buy a bunch of cables, I really don't want to buy another one when I am not sure that will work.  Darn things are expensive when you are buying 4 connectors at once (ethernet connector since the speed via wireless is noticably slower; magsafe to magsafe2 converter; thunderbolt for my printer; and a connector for the monitor at home which doesn't have an hdmi port).
Any other suggestions before adding another to that list? Since Apple seems to be out of ideas... any info would be appreciated.

I have an HP 2311x as well. I'm using an HDMI cable and am not having any issues getting the screen to display. I know you said the cable works with a PC but have you tried a different HDMI cable just in case. It might be worth a try. Other than that, I'm not much help.
The issue I had when plugging this monitor into my MBP retina was that the image was very blurry on the HP 2311x. I almost gave up on using it and was going to just buy a Thunderbolt display but after much research I found a custom firmware update that fixed the underscan/blurriness issue. So be prepared for that if you get the screen to display.
If I can find that resource, I will post it here.
    Good luck!

  • Going berserk - my Macbook Air shows irrational, whimsical behavior when it comes to detecting external screens - solutions?

My Macbook Air (OSX 10.9.1 - 1.7 / i5 ) is normally connected via HDMI to a LG 22EAA53 LED IPS monitor. If the combination is working properly, the motto is: don't pull any cables, don't mess with it. If I do pull the HDMI-cable, or, even worse, if I pick up the notebook and connect it elsewhere to a TV monitor for the occasional viewing of a movie (Sony-flatscreen), everything goes wrong. First because the Air may or may not detect the tv: sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. In the latter case it doesn't matter what I try: cables in and out, notebook on and off, ditto tv etc etc. Nothing will help change the Air's mood. Too bad, but hey, it's only a movie, and as long as I can work. Not so. When I (****** off already) return to my office and reconnect the air via the LG monitor, this now doesn't work either. The monitor says it gets no signal, and if I then pull the HDMI cable, I get the message that the connection is lost. In the Air-menu settings/displays the option to detect a external screen is non-existent. The only thing I can do, I know this from experience, is simply wait. Because within a couple of days the Air can all by itself decide to recognize the external screen again. I can't help but wondering about this whimsical behaviour. It makes you wonder if, in this era of state of the art technology, we made really that much progress compared to the people who lived thousands of  years ago, who in case of problems had no other option than to wait for redemption by a mysterious, unknowable supreme being. And it appears I am not the only one with this kind of problem either – I found it on several fora, but alas, to no avail, the problem is common and recognized, a solution is not around, or so it appears. But maybe, maybe someone here has a bright idea?

The key to managing the single USB port on the machine is using as little wired hardware peripherals as possible. Here's how I have my setup (this was a similar setup prior to the Air):
    1. AirPort Extreme Base Station that serves as my router
    2. AirPort Express Base Station that serves as my speaker system (1)
    3. AirPort Express Base Station that serves as my printer server (2)
I have a 320GB USB 2.0 HD that plugs into my Extreme, that I then backup to a secondary 500GB (monthly). The 320GB is split partitioned with 80GB serving as my machine's TM backup and the remaining serving as general file storage. On the general file storage I have my iTunes Library & iPhoto Library that are shared to three computers on my at-home network. I have a Mac Mini that serves as my "server" which runs OS X 10.5 server and facilitates any additional services.
As my entire apartment is "wireless" I can go anywhere in the place and have access to my music, files and printing without ever having to connect at any time. I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard if I'm ever at my desk with the MBA and have a "setup" that I made with a monitor, stand, micro-DVI to VGA adapter and constant power available. I then have a USB extension cable that extends around the back of my day into a small "enclosure" I made on my desk that allows me to connect any USB peripheral such as my card reader, Super Drive, iPhone or iPod.
It's a fairly intricate setup that took patience, some design and planning but it allows me to use my machine as a true portable but with the flexibility to "dock" it when the time comes.

  • Firewire device looses connection when external screen is inserted into the thunderbolt port? HELP

    HI
I am a recording studio engineer. Ive got a Firewire AD/DA Converter (Focusrite Saffire Pro 56) running from my Firewire port of my MacBook Pro, which is running OSX Mavericks. I've also got an external Screen I want to use as an extended display. I'm using a HDMI cable from the screen to a HDMI to Thunderbolt Converter which I then plug into my Thurderbolt Port.
As soon as I plug the screen in, the Firewire Port looses connection completely and I cant use or even choose the Saffire Pro 56 as audio driver. Another thing happens where the Thunderbolt port replaces the Saffire Pro 56 Driver with the screen as the audio output source.
Please help, there's nothing I can find to fix this.
    Thanks Maurice

You don't mention which model you have, but this is from the M-Audio Firewire 410 Manual Troubleshooting section:
The FireWire 410 has been designed to give you high performance and professional quality audio. It has been tested under a wide range
of systems and operating conditions. In the real world, however, there is a nearly infinite number of possible operating scenarios, any of
which could affect your system’s performance. Much like owning an automobile, “your mileage may vary.” This section can not begin to
cover all possible issues you may encounter, however we want to give you some suggestions on common problems you may experience.
One thing to avoid is connecting too many devices. The FireWire bus is a dependable, high-speed, high-bandwidth protocol which is ideally
suited for digital audio. Nonetheless, it’s important to remember that audio and multimedia streaming places considerable demands on
your processor and the FireWire bus. Although it is theoretically possible to chain many multiple FireWire devices in series, doing so may
    potentially degrade your audio performance.
I guess this degradation could also affect the Firewire HD. Maybe there is a simple fix, but it sounds like the M-Audio people have been down this road before.

  • RMBP - external screen turns black for a few seconds every once in a while

My external screen (Dell U2711) connected via Thunderbolt to Displayport cable turns black every once in a while. The rMBP is in clamshell mode. When it starts it randomly blackens the screen for 2 seconds with an interval of 10 seconds to 5 minutes. A restart usually fixes the issue but it keeps coming back after some time.
Has anybody here experienced something similar?
What can be the cause of that?
This really starts to annoy me, because it seems I have to do reboot everytime I connect my laptop to my screen.

Never had the sort of problem - but then I've an Apple Thunderbolt Display and it just 'works'.
Could be that you're adapter is shot. You could buy a (or some) new ones from Monoprice (much cheaper than what Apple's third-party solutions sell for) and see if that's the problem.
Sorry I can't offer a more helpful solution...

Hay sorry if this has been done before, after reading a few threads i am still confused re compartiblity,
I have a MacPro 3.1 2x 3.2Ghz quad core, with an Ati 7970, it has a mini display port on it, will a 27inch thunderbolt display work of this? i understand that the thunder bolts on the back of the display will not? but also what about the usb's?

those displays now will be out of warranty and a good number have brightness issues over time.
False. The reported brightness issues are very rare. The 30" is one of the best displays ever sold by Apple. Find one for $700-800.
Both the ACD and TBD have the same glare issue as the pre-2012 iMacs. They were never updated to the direct lamination of the 2012-13 iMac screens.

  • Connecting external Screen with Toshiba DynaDock U3

    Hi,
    I have the following issue:
Bought two external Screens (Dell U2412M)
    Notebook: ASUS Zenbook
    Dynadock Station U3
Now, I connected the first Screen with DVI to the DynaDock and it works perfectly.
The Dockstation has only 1 port for DVI, so i had to connect the second Screen through HDMI, but unfortunately my dell Screens do not have HDMI Connection, but displayPort. so I bought a cable which can connect Displayport to HDMI. And i connected the Screen displayport with HDMI to the DynaDock.
Unfortunately my device do not recognize the second external Screen.
I have no idea why it is so.
Hope some kindly Person can help me.
    Kind Regards,
    Alessandro

    >I have no idea why it is so.
    Possible its not Dynadock issue
You should firstly check if the cable you bought is OK and would work without the usage of Dynadock
Connect an external monitor to HDMI port using this cable and check if it would work properly.
and just to confirm: the Dynadock U3 can handle up to 2 external monitors simultaneously.
