TS4066 Mail, Toast, Acrobat Pro, et. al., crash frequently in 10.8.2
Running OS X 10.8.2 (12C60) on MacBook 5,1 (late 2008 aluminum), 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3, ST9750420AS 750.16GB HDD more or less without incident since Mountain Lion was introduced. In the last month, and particularly in the last week, I'm experiencing app crashes with alarming regularity. Acrobat Pro 9.5.2, Adobe CS4 11.02, Mail 6.2 to name a few. Address Book has been non-functional since a Genius Bar appointment one year ago and I'm unclear how AB and Contacts are intended to play together [or not?]. A few days ago I downloaded an update to Roxio Toast Titanium v11.1, inserted a photo CD into the SuperDrive to burn a copy, and there was no response...in a minute or so it ejected the photo CD and crashed (see attached report). The SuperDrive works with other DVDs and Music CDs but otherwise unresponsive to Toast.app and remains so.
Directly following that incident, I began experiencing regular crashes with otherwise common apps [e.g. Mail 6.2 (1499)]. At first it crashed several times (see report below) and I performed the usual series of remedies beginning with a simple Disk Utility Permission Repair and Verification…it passed. Following recommended procedures, quit all applications and performed the series of tests prior to resetting the SMC. No luck. Started in Safe Mode…no apps with slashed circle. Reset PRAM to no effect. Tried the Apple Hardware (long - 2½ hr) test with original install disc…passed without a hitch; Tech Tool Deluxe tests indicated no departure from normal. Long story short, went through the entire list of 15 diagnostic tests which purportedly will not exacerbate the issue or entail data removal/destruction/rewriting/reinstallation. Safari Version 6.0.2 (8536.26.17) began to show signs of fatigue and crashed more than once.
I'm not unfamiliar with OS X and its predecessors, OpenStep and NeXTStep, though until recently I've always had the benefit of both a sysadmin and IT Manager in my employ. No longer. Apple's Business-to-Business relations people recommended somebody local who sent a lieutenant to fool around with Ubuntu, before pronouncing my drives defunct—had to remind him he was trying to fix a Mac Pro which works just fine so please concentrate on the MacBook.
The MacBook uses an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU so using the mini-Display Port to Dual-Link DVI adapter I can switch from a 13" display to my 30" Cinema Display as desired. For a period the Apple Keyboard Hub demanded 500 mA of current while only 100 mA was available. Solved that.
All of which led up to the most vexing issue I've faced yet (n.b. I'm not so digitally literate that I understand much of what's addressed on these forums). I've continually upgraded through PowerBooks, then MacBooks, and so forth but never felt confident the ghosts of OSs past have been fully excised—and would really like to know how to do that. I back up to an external HDD with CCC which is comforting but not helpful when trying to remove outdated preferences, apps, even an HP PostScript Software RIP which survived the transition from Classic!
Recently tried a very judicious use of Onyx and thought some progress had been made, but evidently not the case. Mail, in particular, not only crashes but when it does remain running, it will not respond to print requests...except with an error tone. Feeling sorely vexed and appears I have company. The Crash Logs for Mail and Toast are included below, as is the System Diagnostic Report for an Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.2 Hang. With luck they will be more meaningful to someone here than they are to me. Naturally, any and all assistance which may be forthcoming will be gratefully received.

Thank you, MrHoffman...while the exact cause remains uncertain, I suspect it was a combination of both software and hardware issues as you suggest above.
A close inspection of theSystem Profiler turned up a USB High-Speed Bus issue. I use a wired keyboard together with a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter to make use of a 30" Cinema Display at my desk—the USB hardware device tree showed the Apple Keyboard USB Hub required 500 mA of current when only 100 mA was available.
After some reading, I realized not all USB ports are created equal…and realized I'd probably connected them in the wrong order. Disconnecting all the USB devices and then reconnecting them in a 'logical' sequence apparently supplies these same devices with enough current to keep them happy.
A second possibility suggested itself on realizing that the number and nature of crashes soared following the installation of Toast Titanium 11. Eventually I found a preference file (com.roxio.Toast.plist) complaining"syntax error cannot parse a NULL or zero-length data." Removing the offending file seems to have had a beneficial effect beyond that particular app, though perhaps a sequence of attention to the usual cache purges and system resets, plus a dose of cod liver oil, has cumulatively effected a lull in the crash history.
I've avoided installation of any anti-viral, anti-malware and other similar software products to protect, accelerate or otherwise improve performance, relying on more hardware memory and a faster, larger HDD to reduce the overall load. In any case, we seem to have our groove back and I certainly appreciate your taking the time to review my post and respond to same. dcd

Adobe acrobat pro 9.2 crashes in windows xp sp3 when closing a pdf
Adobe acrobat pro 9.2 crashes in windows xp sp3 when I close a pdf. This means that if I have multiple files open, all of them close. I get an error message from windows that the problem is due to windows' Data Execution Prevention (DEP). I tried making Adobe an exception to windows' DEP and re-started the computer but this did not help the problem. Any ideas about how to fix this problem?
So.. If we want to control the "hardware graphics acceleration", should it be done inside the Adobe Acrobat Pro ?
If yes, which part of option should we changed ?
If not, can someone tell me which way to setting this one ?
Do anybody have other input ? This problem makes me crazy
Thank you so much in advanced. -
Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files
Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files. I have not seen any solutions in forums that solves this problem. I have just done the most recent update and it still crashes.
Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 (CS5) is doing the same thing on my Windows XP SP3 with 3.5 GB of ram and 206 GB of my brand new 300 GB hard drive free.
It starting doing this at the end of last year before my hard drive died. Then after rebuilding the entire system on this new drive it worked fine, until I downloaded all the updates and now it is broken again. Anytime I open more than one PDF, Acrobat crashes. I send the error report every time. -
Why does working with Stamps cause Acrobat Pro XI to crash on close
Although other people in my organization have been experiencing crashes several times a day with Acrobat Pro XI (usually from stamping PDFs and closing Acrobat), I've just started receiving crashes after working on custom Stamps. This hasn't happened before to me. What is so special about the stamps that might be causing these crashes?
Our users using Acrobat for scanning receive the crash message "Adobe Acrobat has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Charlie
charlie6067Hi George - a few divisions have stamps with JavaScript to query user to enter a date and time document was stamped. Most of the users do not. Just a set of static signature and File stamps. The File stamps have fields that contain custom calculation scripts to always display the current date and time of stamping. This was never a problem in Acrobat 9 Pro, though. Some crashes have occured just scanning through Acrobat without touching the stamps. Thanks for the quick reply and would appreciate if you have any more I can look into.

Acrobat Pro XI constantly crashes after Yosemite upgrade
I recently upgraded my Mac to Yosemite (version 10.10.1 14B25), and now my Acrobat Pro is crashing (version XI 11.0.10). The steps to recreate are pretty simple:
1 launch Acrobat Pro
2 go to Downloads on the Dock and select a recent pdf download
3 Command + F to search document
4 Enter search word, click next
5 Open another pdf using step 2
6 Acrobat crashes
I tried to paste the console crash info here but it wouldn't post my request?
Would love to find a solution to this!
Thanks!Hi dearmasa,
Could you please try the following steps and let me know if it worked for you:
Delete all the files from following folders:
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLStore
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLCache
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobePCD
Now, launch Acrobat and try to activate and check.

Why does Acrobat Pro XI continually crash in Windows 8.x?
When using Acrobat Pro XI on a Dell Optiplex 990 runing Windows 8 and, after upgrade 8.1 it continually crashes. Just trying to save it will crash, but almost any operation will randomly have it fail.
I am having crash problems on Acrobat XI Pro using MS Surface Pro2 with Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.
After you make a number of comments on a 13 page document; and if you scroll up or down to different pages all the comments (underlining, text boxes, call outs etc.) cannot be seen, the comments entered do not show till you make some more clicks or do something more. After sometime the comments will show up again- very awkward behavior by the program not experienced in Adobe Acrobat X Pro which I operated on a MS Surface Pro with Windows 8.0
The Surface Pro2 that I have has 8GB RAM, and there aren't any other applications/programs operating using the RAM.
Not sure if Adobe XI Pro is being tested on a Windows 8.1 with updates as necessary.
The fact that comments get missing make it difficult to view the document in a meeting on a screen with others......Discouraging to use Adobe.......the only option is to convert to MS Word and maintain stability of program and work done on it.
It does at times hang and then you have to salvage the document after you close and open the program again and at times if the file was not saved the data is lost.

Acrobat Pro ClearScan OCR Crash
I have been using Acrobat Pro 9 to scan and OCR books. It has worked very well for thousands of pages. I have now come across a set of images that it will not OCR. Visually I don't see any difference between them and hundreds of others that I have OCRed. If I load the image into Acrobat Pro, select the option to OCR it and create a ClearScan document, Acrobat just crashes. No error message. It is a 600 dpi image, produced in the same run as hundreds of others that work. I am scanning at 600 dpi because it actually does make a difference in the quality of the output...
There is a related issue. I have experimented producing the ClearScan PDFs in two ways: (1) create ClearScan PDFs of each image and then combine the PDFs. (2) Load all the images into Acrobat and Create a single ClearScan PDF from them. When I do procedure 2 the final PDF is more than half the size of the that produced by process 1. But the image quality is better with 1. The main difference is character spacing. It is off significantly on many words using 2. I am curious as to why.
Any help, especially on the first question, would be appreciated.
Thanks,
MikeIs there any way that I can view and correct ALL of the text from the text recognition process?
Select the text with touchup text tool.
Change the color of the text.
Edit the text.

Trying to reinstall Adobe Acrobat Pro after a crash
My laptop crashed last week and I lost everything on it. Every. Thing. I’m dying over here and desperately need a break…
Anyway, I’m rebuilding, much like New Orleans after Katrina. One program at a time. I want to reinstall Adobe Acrobat Pro, but my original key is invalid (I assume expired?) What do I need to do to get a new key to reinstall it? I appreciate any assistance or kind words anyone can offer. If you have a key or S/N, they are indefinite and do not expire. It may be an issue of the version you are trying to use it with. The key is tied to a specific version (9, X, XI as well as Pro and Std and Upgrade). There may also be an OS issue if it is a new machine. So information on the version, upgrade (or not), and OS would help us give you some idea of the problems.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC keeps crashing with "Not Responding" message
Hi there, I just started using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and it keeps crashing with a "not responding" message. It never used to happen with acrobat XI. Any ideas?
I'm using Windows 8.1 on an Acer with AMD A10-5700 APU 64bit OS...Hi ,
Does this happen while accessing any PDF ' or when you launch Acrobat ?
You could try repairing Acrobat and see if that helps .
Is there any error number or exit code associated with the error message ?If yes ,please share the screen shot of the same.
You could also uninstall Acrobat using the Cleaner Tool .Here is the link to download Cleaner Tool .
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
Once uninstalled you could try downloading it again .If it is a subscription ,you could refer the following link .
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html
You could restart your machine as well and then try to launch Acrobat .
If it is a perpetual license ,you could refer to this one .
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html
Make sure to disable all the third party software before you start installation .
Let us know how it goes .

Print multiple PDFs from Windows Explorer causes Acrobat Pro 9.4 crash
I sometimes need to create a batch of PDFs independently, after which it suits me to print them all as a single job. FYI I am running Acrobat Pro 9.4 under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
The sequence of the problem as follows:
- With Acrobat closed, I go to the directory containing my multiple PDF files using Windows Explorer.
- I highlight between three and six PDF docs (each individual doc is small, one page, black and white only).
- I use the "Print" option made available within Windows Explorer.
It's clear that the system then tries to use Acrobat to print these docs, however I consistently get the same behaviour - some print, some do not, but on every occasion I receive the error "Adobe Acrobat 9.4 has stopped working".
Any ideas? Annoying for a paid-for piece of pro software although, granted, not on a level with famine in the third world it would be nice to have all the functionalities working correctly. If it helps my machine spec is below.
Thanks,
Alastair
SPEC:
Dual Xeon workstation
24Gb RAM (of which 22GB available at time of error)
Disk 1TB (RAID10) of which 920GB free
Windows 9 Ultimate 64bit
Acrobat Pro ver 9.4.1It may partly be a 64-bit issue since AA is apparently a 32-bit application that can run in the 64-bit environment (not that familiar with 64-bit systems, so I may not be stating it correctly. However, I would start by going to the Control Panel>Programs and Features and do a repair on your Acrobat installation. That will hopefully resolve the issue.

MacBook Pro 8, 2 Crashes Frequently
I've a MacBook Pro 8,2 Early 2011 (15", 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB RAM). Since last month, my system started to crash frequently, from once a day to few (3-4) times a day. The crashes happened at random times - as I'm replying emails with Mail, browsing with Safari, opening files from Finder, editing a Word doc or Powerpoint ppt, etc. Each time the machine crashes, it simply reboots and goes straight to login. There is no specific pattern or steps that I observed to replicate this. Originally, the crashes happened on OS X Mountion Lion. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks hoping that this will be fixed, however my system still crashes frequently even after upgraded to OS X Mavericks. The App Store confirms that there are no further updates for my system.
Any ideas on how to fix this, or at least how to go about pinpointing the problem? In case it helps, my latest error report is below.
Thanks.
BR,
Robin Mak

Acrobat Pro 7.0 Crashes while adding page links
My client has supplied a 238 page Acrobat document. They would like me to add page links to the Table of Contents page for each chapter.
When I try to set the page links Acrobat shuts down for not apparent reason.
I've tried on my MacBook Pro running OSX and Windows running XP PRo. Both machines are running 2 gigs of RAM with all the software updates.
I've tried to close all applications that might be running. Same results.Did anyone ever get an answer from Adobe to this problem? I am having almost the same issue, only it's when I try to edit the properties of the Go to a page view link function. I have a main document that has several additional PDF files attached within it. Within those files, I have created destinations so that when I link them up, I can actually link to the correct location in the document. When I create a link, and then try to go to the properties of that link to set up Open in a new window and to set the destination location, Acrobat crashes without an error. It just closes with all changes lost. I have tried this on three different computers at my office, my home computer, and have even tried to complete the links with version 7.0 Professional. That same problem occurs. I have called their Tech support, and they sent me a "TechNote" for "Troubleshoot system errors or freezes" for Acrobat 8.x.. I went through every possible solution that they had, but it never fixed the problem. I asked the customer service person if this was a "known problem", and he said "not officially, but it happens". Is there anyone out there who can help me resolve this?? I need to have this functioning. Thanks.

Acrobat Pro 9.5 crashing with Multiple prints
I have Acrobat 9.5 pro on multiple machines in my office, when trying to print to ANY printer, even to another PDF, if I select more than 200ish pages (8 1/2x11-simple prints), it crashes Adobe Acrobat. This happens wether its a binder or a portfolio. Also when when printing from Acrobat, it really hogs down the systems.
Says no repair is needed, and I know my system is strong enough (these are built for High graphics CAD use)
Windows 7 Ultimate
Intel i7-2700k CPU @3.5GHz 3.90 GHz
16 GB ram
64bit OS
Any Suggestions or patches would be grateful. I would really like to be able to send my 400+ page PDF and walk away.
-LisaI already have 9.5.4.
I have over 500Gigs Free space on my HD
I print to B&W, and Color and just back to the Adobe Driver (to create another PDF as a test-and still crashes if I attempt more than about 200 PDFs). I have tried it with 6 Different Printers, even at Economy printing. I always keep all my drivers (like software updates) to the latest and greatest. in fact, I checked to make sure they were all when I got the 1st crash.
If I select more than about 200, the entire program crashes, it doesn't even attempt to start printing.
Printer Spooling Not on.
Just printing simple B & W line drawings (at 8 1/2 X 11)
Here are just a few printers I have tried...
Kyocera TASKalfa 520i KX PS and PCL
Xerox 4110 PCL & PS
Xerox 4112 PCL & PS
Xerox 7545 PS & PCL
Xerox Phaser 7760
