TS4083 Email Syncing Between Devices

I am having the opposite issue. When I read an email on my macbook the email appears read on the ipad and iphone. But if I read it on my iphone and ipad, it does not appear read on my mac. All are synced with my icloud account. Any thoughts??

What is assigned different Apple IDs?  The iTunes account?  If so, that has nothing to do with icloud.  If all these devices sync (and I mean wirelessly, not via iTunes on a computer), then they are logged into the same icloud account.

  • Flagged email synced between devices

When I flag an email on my iMac, it does not show up as flagged on my mobile devices.  Is this the way Mail works or should I be changing my settings to allow for it.  All my devices have the latest software updates.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Only the games that are compatible. Most aren't
That is why I referred you to their support. It can be happening by connecting to itunes, by connecting to game server, by connecting to Facebook, all depends on particulars of that game.

  • Sent mail does not sync between devices

My sent mail does not sync between devices. For example, if I send an email from my Iphone it does not show in my sent box on the MAC mail (postage stamp). If I send mail from MAC mail it does not show on my phone.  But if I go to Yahoo (mail) I can see all sent mail.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting that allows them to snch sent mail??

From reports on this site, Yahoo mail doesn't work reliably with Mail. The following steps may help.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Notification centre sync between devices

I seem to remember that when iOS 7 was announced that notification centre would sync between devices via iCloud and if a notification was marked as read on one device it would do so on all devices. This clearly isn't happening at the moment. Is this because it hasn't been switched on yet or has it just been quietly pulled from the feature set?
Is it working for anyone else?

The notifications at the top of my iPad are going away when I dismiss on my iphone but the badges are not going away likewise for unread emails. I get home from work and my iPad has a bunch of unread emails. Sometimes there is no words with friends notification on my iPad but there is on my iphone even before I address it on either device. I had a chat Friday night with an apple support person and was told the servers are overloaded. Perhaps Apple should stagger updates the way Google does.

  • How do I stop the EMAIL sync between my desktop  and my laptop?

How do I stop the email sync between my desktop computer and my laptop? Right now, the laptop is set to automatically load my email when I click on mail. I use my desktop daily; laptop only when traveling. The laptop is somehow set to receive ALL messages, so I get messages that are several weeks/months old. I want to be able to manually sync and NOT have all of the hundreds of old, already viewed messages sent to my laptop. However, I DO want my desktop to receive all of my old messages so that I can have them when I return from traveling. Thanks.

Actually, your mail isn't 'synchronizing' in the conventional sense at all. And, you are effectively trying to make it do so manually at the present time. As you have discovered, this simply does not work.
The only way that you can effectively address your requirements is to use IMAP—rather than POP3—technology. Using IMAP will allow you to readily control what is stored on the server, and will provide a view into that data store when you use your portable computer.
While is is possible to use POP3 and set one computer to delete mail from the server and the other not to, this is potentially fraught with problems, and will not fully address your concerns.
An IMAP option is available from such providers as Apple with .Mac, AOL with AOL Mail and AIM Mail, and Google with GMail. You can convert an existing POP3 account with such a provider to IMAP with little difficulty, or initiate a new IMAP account with such a provider and forward mail to it from providers who do not offer such an option.

  • Will I be able to disable the automatic icloud sync between devices?

What I want to know from looking at the keynote speech it looks like if I buy a song on my phone or ipad it will also get downloaded to my son's iphone even though he may not want the sond and vice versa. I hope there will be a way to disable the automatic sync between devices because in theory it sounds good but when you have several ios devices in the family they usually don't want to have the same music that I listen too. I have a MBA, Iphon4, and Ipad and would not mind all of them syncing together but my son's iphon 3GS does not need to be synced with the other devices. I didn't hear anything about being able to disable it and if someone knows can they let the rest of us know. Thanks.

Yes you can disable it. Also since it's free for all of those services, and you want different content on your devices, you could just setup an Apple ID for your son so that their content will be synced among their devices and you can still benefit from all the iCloud goodness. The only downfall to this is that the content that you may want to share would have to be purchased twice. I'm hoping they add support for "Family Groups" for iCloud services so you can have a shared Apple ID for content on up to 10 devices while also giving the flexibility for having sub-ID's to differentiate who's devices are who's.
That is exactly what I am talking about. I know you can share your purchases through several devices and some of the app store stuff my son and I share with no problem. I just hope that sharing is ok. Also using picture flow could be bad too. What if I want to take a picture that I don't want on any other device. This is all good but sounds like they didn't think this through all the way before implementing it. I am a mobileme subscriber and have been for 2 years and I liked iDisk. There was nothing wrong with the way it worked as I could set up iDisk only on my devices and my son's would not be affected. Like I said good idea but for some of us we may not want stuff out on the cloud automatically.
Also I can see some folks up in arms about privacy issues just like they did with the tracking issue. I am thinking I will turn this service off on all my devices until I get more information about it after it is implemented.

  • I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream.

I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream?

You can create a Quicktime movie slideshow of the book's pages and share that. Here's how to get your book into an iPhoto slideshow and then export as a Quicktime video:
1 - While viewing the book type Command+P to start the print process.
2  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
3 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
4 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. Immediately select all of the photos in the new album and sequentially renumber them as "Page  " using the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text with the option to add a sequential number to each title.  This is to let you put the pages back in the correct order in the event they get sorted incorrectly.
Now you can proceed as follows: create the slideshow in iPhoto and export it out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large (480p with iPhoto 9),
    Happy New Year

  • Game progress not being synced between devices

I have an iPad 2 and iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.3) and my game progress isn't being synced between devices. Both use the same Game Centre account and I have iCloud correctly set up on both devices. I do understand that some games don't support this feature but I have many games that definitely do yet they still don't sync. I did notice games that save data in the "Documents & Data" section do actually sync my progress between devices, but games like Cut the Rope, Where's my Water etc don't. I've tried searching online to find a fix for this issue but I can't find anything. Hopefully someone here has experienced the same thing and might be able to help, any help would be very much appreciated.

  • How often iCloud sync between devices takes place?

Previously on Mobile Me, sync between devices (of contacts, bookmarks, etc...) was automatic and there was an option to trigger a sync manually. The automatic mode was very fast, and updates would occur in a matter of a minute or less.
With iCloud I can't find an option to intiate a sync. And automatic sync seems to take ages, sometimes hours.
It can cause problems, for example, I go out to an important meeting and I update the meeting address on my mac's calendar. Then on the way to the meeting I refer to my iPhone to check the details, but 15-30 minutes later they are still not there.
Does anyone else experience this slowness in updating, and has anyone found a way to force a sync?
    thanks!

To refresh on Mac iCal: View > Refresh all (see screen shot).
To refresh on iOS devices I find that to quit and reboot the app usually speeds things up (double tap home button > press and hold app in question > tap red minus that appears > then reopen from home screen).

  • Ibooks pdfs do not sync between devices?

Is Ibooks supposed to sync between devices?

Is this really the case? I'm getting more and more disenchanted with my iPad. It's implied in all the advertising that iCloud will 'magically' make sure everything stays synched between your devices. But is it actually true that the pdfs I have saved in a collection on my iPad (which were downloaded from any old website), will not sync to my mac at all? How is this helpful in any way? I've got 'sync all books' selected in itunes on the mac, and 'sync collections' selected in the settings on all my devices.
Edited to add: they don't sync over iCloud or when i have the iPad connected by cable, if that was not clear.
Quite frankly, this is rubbish and in my opinion, blatant false advertising. Is there some annoyingly cumbersome workaround I can use??

  • Improve sync between devices

Is it just me or as the syncing between devices using the Messages app? Noticed today when I was chatting with a contact on the beta version on my Mac but the only time it would display a heads-up on either my iPhone or iPad was when I was in full screen on another app. Lucky fluke or what?
PS: Also have to say it was very "random" which iOS device displayed a message alert (meaning, if the iPad displayed a message the iphone/mac didn't and vice-versa but it's not like I was personally using it but in standby so take it for what you will).

    Hi,
In Messages Beta what is displayed in the "History" of a conversation is based on what has been synced to that device or app.
Historically iChat could Save Transcripts and placed them in a folder called iChats in the Documents Folder.
In Messages Beta this is done automatically with no intervention by the Users.
This also happens for iMessages as well as for iChat style chats via Buddy Lists.
Messages also stores some details about iMessage chats in ~/Library/Messages which you can only see when you use the Finder > Go Menu and hold the ALT key to access the Library.
Whilst the "Best" syncing can be achieved by clearing all Messages held on the iPhone or iPad prior to adding the Apple ID to be used and changing the Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID to the Apple ID it is then obvious that the User has little input when the sync does not work properly.  (there is little if anything they can change on the iOS or Message Beta that will influence this)
Currently in the beta you can clear the chat window but any further chats with a contact or Buddy that you have spoken to before fill in the Chat window with a "History"
With iMessages these go back to the first chat with that Contact after Messages was Installed and Activated to the Apple ID.
Most people that posted about this seemed to indicate that they did not like it.
As iChat Saved Transcripts only at the User's request before it would seem for the full Mountain Lion one that some control is likely to return.
Some of this will be based on what is synced and how long it is kept ready for syncing to devices that happen to be Off Line.
People have also reported delayed iMessages and Syncing issue around switching devices mid conversation and having the beta try to fill in a "history" at the same time.
These are likely to get resolved in the full version but it is also likely to take some changes at the server end.
For instance someone may send you a pic on an iMessage that you pick up on your iPhone
You might want to keep the pic but would rather do so on your Mac.
At present the working assumption by Apple appears to be that all iOS devices and Messages Beta are on at the same time.
Not everyone works like this and many turn their Computer Off when they are away from it for long periods.
This can lead to syncing issues with the beta as iMessages can then get mixed up.
There is also no proper Off Line IM process at present to cope with the way people actually use their devices.
If Messages Beta is not working properly one thing that could be done (Can be done if you kept the .dmg) is to Uninstall back to iChat and then Reinstall.
As the Download has been withdrawn this option is no longer available.
Although we cannot be certain exactly how Apple will change Messages in the full release the experience of what has been changed over the years and what happened with the iChat 2 beta do point to the things that people have been shouting loudly about are the things that get changed.
AS these centre around Syncing, iMessages and the "History" showing up and much of this is Server end led then changes are likely to take place before  the Full release.
Hence we may experience issues with Messages beta in these areas.
As we cannot change anything in the apps themselves that may improve things trying to re-establish the link to a specific Apple ID may be the best we can try.

  • Emails not sync between devices.

My email do not sync between my Macbook and my Galaxy S4. For example if I read an email or delete one on my phone, it won t show on the emails in my Macbook (I use the built in app). I have to redo the action...
Anyone knows why it is doing this or what to change?
    Thank you.

What mail provider do you have, and is it set up as IMAP in both places? POP mail will not sync.

  • Mail Sync between devices

    Hi.
I have read several discussions but still have not found a solution. I have iphone 5S, Ipad Mini and Mac. When using Mail, both iphone 5S and Ipad are synced. This means that when I read and delete one email in one device (ie iphone), the other one (ie ipad mini) recognizes what i have done and I no longer find the email in any of the two. This is great! However, this sync does not happen in my Mac. Even though the email was deleted in iphone and ipad mini, I still find it in the Mac. This happens on the other way around as well. Based on what I have read, this is because my Mail account in the Mac is a POP instead of IMAP which would have allowed all the devices to be synced. The answers I have read are towards creating a new mail account and configure it as an IMAP one. However, changing an email account poses a big challenge. There are multiple subscriptions, friends, suppliers, etc with the email address. And changing the account will require updating all those stakeholders with the new email which I wouldnt like to do. I tried a workaround by creating a new IMAP account (ie NEW) and forward emails automatically from the OLD one to this NEW. And opening only the NEW account in all the devices. In the Mac I disabled the OLD POP account. But this configuration was not working very well. So I decided to enable the OLD POP account again. When I did this, my inbox filled with hundreds of historic emails that I had organized in mailboxes. I am noticing that these are duplicated! I opened a new mailbox, titled it as OLD and moved all the inbox into it to check it in the future. Plus, I started seeing in the activity box that Mail is now checking for thousands of incoming messages. I decided to hide this activity box.
So now, I am back to my original setting of a POP account, with a new mailbox with duplicated emails and a hidden activity box which apparently is searching for incoming emails! Quite an experience and without resolving what I tried to do!
Question: Is there a way to have the devices synced including Mac, iphone and Ipad Mini without loosing the email address originally configured in Mail Mac as a POP account?
    I appreciate your responses...
    Cesar

Csound1 and Eric: THANK YOU very much!!! Your feedback helped me solve my situation!!! Here is what I did in case anyone else wants to see what I did and can help them as well:
BACKING UP: I backed up my Mail first in case I did something bad during the process. Since I am using OSX Version 10.9.2, I was not able to see the Library/Mail. So, in Finder, I went to the "Go" in the Menu bar and pressed the alt key. I was then able to see the Library folder which I opened it. I looked the Mail folder and did a copy in an external hard drive. I went then to Preferences folder and copied the file com.apple.mail.plist.lockfile in my external hard drive. Since I wanted to be completely sure, I also did an export of each mailbox from the Mac to the external hard drive. With those 2 back ups, I proceeded with the next step.
DELETING IN iPHONE AND iPAD: I deleted the Mail account in my iphone and ipad. Not sure if this is required but wanted to start fresh.
CREATING iMAP ACCOUNT IN MAC: Then in Mail application in the Mac, I went to Mail in Menu bar and into Preferences. Under Account, I highlighted my POP account and pressed the - sign thus erasing it. I then pressed the + sign and configured the Account again with my same email address as you guys suggested. The Account was created as an IMAP one.
ORGANIZING AND TESTING: Suddenly many emails started to enter my inbox. Not to worry. I just noticed that since the Mail in Mac was not synching, the emails under the Gmail account when I entered it through the internet, were still there. Once I got the emails in my Mac inbox, I created a new Mailbox and moved all the inbox emails to it. I needed this so that the inbox in the Gmail account using internet, also was freed. With this, both inbox in Mac and Gmail in internet were now the same. I tested sending an email to my email address and it appeared in both the Mac and Gmail internet account. I deleted in one side and saw it also deleted in the other one! Good synch! So far, very good!
CONFIGURING iPHONE and iPAD: Finally, I configured the Mail in iPad Mini and then in iPhone. And tested sending some emails from different devices and erasing them from different ones as well. All devices are now synching!!!!
Thank you once again and have a Great day!!!

  • How can email sync between iphone4 and mac?

I want to read email once on either my iPhone4 or Mac, then delete the email from BOTH DEVICES. I don't want to read the same email on my iPhone4 and my Mac.
Do I need to manage this with my internet service provider (in thsi case Cox), or are there setting in iPhone 4 to take care of this duplicate email phenomenon?
    Thanks.

it will only remove deleted mails when you sync it with the computer
and only one accounts that are set as sync accounts so not when you set them up on the iphone itself
in which case it's a standalone account not a sync one
synced accounts are created in the info tab on the iphone when connected to itunes
otherwise you have to make sure that your email account is pop3 rather then imap and that it's set to delete
mails from server when downloaded that should work
but it needs to be set on both the iphone and the computer

  • "Documents in the Cloud" NOT syncing between devices.

I am terribly confused about DOCUMENTS IN THE CLOUD.
My whole understanding was that your documents would SYNC between your devices, iMac/iPhone/iPad.
I have PAGES installed on all my devices. But nothing is syncing. If I make changes to one of the documents it remains on that particular device and does not effect my other devices.
And YES I have iCloud enabled on all my devices.
I THOUGHT that if I edited a document on my iMac it was supposed to send the edit to the cloud where it would then be sent to my other devices, iphone and ipad?
Am I missing something? Did I misunderstand the keynote?

For the avoidance of doubt in addition to settings> iCloud> documents & data being enabled, have you checked that settings> keynote> iCloud is also set to on.
