TS4147 iCloud duplicate contacts

so I contacted iCloud support about resolving duplicate contacts, and they had no advice other than going in and deleting the dupes manually. I have 750 contacts. Advice anyone?

Are they duplicated at www.icloud.com or in Outlook, or both?

Hi,
I'm having a bit of a nightmare with iCloud and my contacts. For some weeks now, iCloud duplicates (and triplicates) my contacts for no reason. I use the same ID on a MBP, iPad and an iPhone so I can access the same data on all of them.
It has worked seamleassly (or what Apple thinks that is for a cloud service...) since the service was launched, but it started doind this back in July and it's a nightmare. I have tried stopping contact sync on my iOS devices, fixed all the contacts and then synced with iCloud so all the changes would spread across the devices. It worked, but a few days later it duplicated most of my contacts again. And now it's tripled! I have freaking 1.136 contacts after deleting a few!!!
None of the devices sync contacs over iTunes, just iCloud, and when I access icloud.com duplicated contacts are there.
Any clue? To be honest it really ****** me off. Is it that difficult to create webservices that work???

TS4147 Unlinking Duplicate Contacts

I have iOS7 on an iPhone 5. At some point, I decided to sync my contacts from iCloud to my phone. Now, I have duplicate information up the wazoo. Most of my contacts have duplicate addresses. If I edit a contact, I have the option to unlink (iPhone/iCloud). Sure, I could do this, but I don't want to as I have hundreds of names to go through. Also, when I unlink, how do I know which one is the iPhone version and which on is the iCloud version? For all of Apple's efforts to be simple and intuitive, iCould can really screw things up. Any advice?
KB article TS4147 does not resolve this problem.

Let me clarify. If I log into iCloud, I don't have duplicates there. In Contacts on my iMac, I also don't have duplicates.

6 iCloud duplicate contacts groups

I’ve disconnected from iCloud, it has never worked for me. Now iCloud had duplicated itself numerous times in addition to duplicating groups within each iCloud group:
Howcan I fix this easily and remove the duplicate iCloud groups? I tried using the duplicate removal tool but only got “The operation has failed” dialog.
I guess from now on it is iTunes syncing over USB. This started when I tried unsuccessfully to log into iClod from an external disk plugged into my Mac. It just seems like iCloud is nothing but a headache.

ICloud Duplicate Contacts

I have an iOS 5 devices with Icloud ativated for contacts. I also have a MacBook Pro running Lion and Address Book 6.1 with iCloud activated for contacts in preferances. On my MacBook in Adress Book i see each contact listed a single time. On my iOS 5 device i have an option for contacts to view as All Contacts, All from My Mac or All iCloud. If I choose All Contacts I will get three versions of each contact, if I choose All from My Mac I will get two versions of each contact and if I choose All iCloud I get only one version. I agree a easy solution is to choose iCloud and everythign works well. however, it does cause other things like Siri to get confussed becuase it find multipal versions of the same contact. How gat I get only my contacts to list only once?

TS4147 Syncing contacts only through iCloud with Outlook 2007 and iPhone & iPad I have duplicate contacts only on the iPhone & iPad. If I remove one of the duplicates the other one is also removed. A solution would be appreciated.

Go to contacts on your phone/ipad, click groups, make sure that the only checked contacts are icloud. That shoud do.

Be sure that you don't have syncing turned on in iTunes, otherwise you'll get data from both iCloud and the iTunes connection.

You can delete the duplicates on icloud.com, or you can try using one of the apps that say they can identify and merge duplicate contacts. (If you have a Mac, you can do this by opening your contacts and going to Card>Look for Duplicates.)

Icloud sync created duplicate contacts...can't get rid of them

Ever since I began syncing my iPhone via iCloud, multiple entries have popped up in my Contacts. In some cases I'll have 4 or 5 duplicate Contacts when I started with just one. I tried deleting them manually (which took forever) but they just come back.
I tried shutting off iCloud sync and doing it the old way, but I realized that many contacts were missing. (i.e. I must have deleted them from locations other than iCloud, and that's the only place where they reside now.)
I feel stuck. This is very frustrating. iCloud was supposed to make my life easier and it's screwing things up. Any suggestions?
PS - I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.4 and an iPhone 5.

My Contacts Backup Pro has a 4+ rating, but it's up to you if you want to try it or not. If you haven't done so already, you might want to take a look at Apple's KB article on duplicate iCloud contacts: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4147. It's not a very common problem, and can be caused by things like attempting to sync contacts with both iCloud and iTunes.
If you have cleaned up your contacts only to see duplicates reappear on their own, you might need to get iCloud support to help you with this one as it's a rare problem. Then may need to have a senior engineer take a look at your account to determine what's causing it.

Duplicate contact entries but not on iCloud...

I am running Mavericks on my MacBook Pro. I have duplicate entries in my Contacts. I got rid of some I guess by choosing Look for Duplicates within the app but it looks like they are all still there! I checked my iCloud account and that is fine. So what's the tip to get rid of those pesky duplicates in Contacts on my Mac??? Thank you! Judy

Remove you icloud contact information on all your IOS devices, go to the icloud setting on you ios device and turn off the addressbook syncing, when it asks you "do you want to remove keep the address on your ips device you say NO... So now your MacBook is the only thing syncing too the icloud.
Go to Addresbook and look for the menu option find duplicates.
After that wait for your laptop to sync this too icloud. to check give it about 2 min depending on how many changes log into your icloud account at www.icloud.com and check too see if the syncing has updated whats in the cloud.
If it has then urn on your addressbook syncing in iclouud settings on your IOS devices and all should be back too normal.

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there. If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device. If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts. Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done. See if the duplicates are still there.

If the same contacts exist in iCloud and on your MBA then there will clearly be duplicates. Export the contacts from the MBA, (On My Mac account) and then delete the content of the On My Mac account, then join iCloud on the MBA.

TS4147 Duplicate contacts on iPad after updating Outlook 2007

After updating contacts in Outlook 2007 and syncing my iPad via iCloud, I have duplicates of the updated contacts (the original one & the updated one) on my iPad. I checked iCloud contacts and no duplicates exist there and the duplicates do not exist in Outlook 2007. When I delete the original contact from iPad, both (the original and updated) contacts are gone from the iPad and the contact is completely removed from iCloud and Outlook 2007. I am not using Exchange.

I have the same problem here. I didn't change my setup.

icloud.com: duplicate bithday entries, no duplicate contacts!
I deleted contacts from the iPad because I thought the sync process created the duplicate while resolving conflicts. But that was not the case. I had duplicate contacts on the iPad that i haven't touched a while ago.
I lost contacts. Is there a way to get a backup for some/all of my contacts from apple?
