TS4148 Can water damage to an iPhone be fixed?

My iPhone I think has water damage to it . Can it easily be fixed?

Not really. If drying out in dry white uncook rice for a week doesn't do it, an exchange at Apple is about the only recourse to water damage. Of course, Apple will charge you for that.

If you have AppleCare+, Apple will replace the iPhone for the "deductable", which in the US is $49. If you have the standard AppleCare plan, then accidental damage is not covered and you will have to pay Apple's out-of-warranty price for replacement. See:

Place the iPod is a seal container with a desiccant like uncooked rice for a week and change the desiccant every day or two. Sometimes it works,  sometimes not.

  • Water damage to an iPhone 5

I recently had an accident with my iPhone 5 which I have had since December. Water was spilled over it in the middle of the night but I didn't notice until the following morning when I woke up. By then I'm sure the water had soaked right into the phone. It still seemed to be working but it said "searching..." at the top left hand corner instead of the network I am on. So, water probably got in the sim card slot hole and made it unable to be read. I've tried soaking it in rice and leaving it in the airing cupboard overnight but still nothing seems to work. I've tried rebooting it several times whilst it's charging but the apple logo comes up and then just goes straight away and this carries on happening. Can somebody suggest any help?? Do I go into an apple store to seek help???

You can take it to an Apple Store but keep in mind, water damage is not covered under the one year limited warranty as noted here > iPhone and iPod: Liquid damage is not covered by warranty

  • Does AppleCare cover water damage to the iPhone?

I want to find out if AppleCare covers water damage?

No, it does not.  If you have AppleCare Plus, you can get a replacement for a small fee.  Otherwise, you will need an out of warranty replacement.

  • Can water damage take days to show effects?

Long story short, my water bottle leaked and splashed slightly onto my friends MBP. We wiped it off immediatly, flipped it upside down and NO water came out of the keys. Not even a drop. The compter worked perfectly normal for almost two days after that. Then, apparantly it decided to not turn on. It gets stuck at the loading screen each time it is turned on. My friend insists this is from the water damage and wants me to replace it, but could it really take TWO days for water damage to take affect? Thanks!

Absolutely 100% yes is the answer to that
I used to repair laptops, and usually after a very mild spill its almost clockwork between 4day to 10days max MOST will exibit minor to horrible damage.
Contact Apple for full in shop inspection and repair.

flipped it upside down and NO water came out of the keys.
Actually the keyboard acts like a one-way valve in liquid spills,....it goes in, but upside down it does NOT come out, this is a fact

  • Help! water damage on my iphone!

My two year old cousin threw my iphone into our swimming pool today, and it doesn't seem to be working the flash won't go off and it's very hot. What do I do? Help!

HOLD THE SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON UNTIL IT IS OFF.
Throw it in a plastic bag full of rice to try and absorb any water and leave it that way for at least a week. DO NOT turn it on. Keep it off. Do not turn it on.
At this point, it's probably toast, but it will definately be dead if you turn it on with even a tiny bit of water in it.
Apple doesn't fix wet iPhones. You'll have to buy a replacement if it's dead.

  • Water damage to my iPhone 5s and now the battery drains quickly

My water bottle leaked through my bag and got into my phone, when I discovered this I have no idea how long it had been sitting in water for. It wouldnt turn on so I immediately put it in rice in a snap lock bag. After a few hours it turned on again and all seemed to be fine but now the battery drains very quickly, even when no apps are open.
I only got the phone a few weeks ago. Is this something that will be cheap to fix by apple or am I better off trying to do it myself?

Also my finger print thing doesnt work but I can live without that, but i cant live withouth a battery

  • HT3302 An apple genius told me there was water damage in my iPhone 5 today which was the cause of the problems I am experiencing and suggested I pay £209 to replace it, I have since checked the LCI and it shows no sign of water contact. Why are they lying

After opening the sim holder and using a light and a magnifying glass to inspect properly the liquid contact indicator it was still perfectly white without a spot of red. Why did the Apple genius  lie to me and try to make me pay for a replacement phone when mine is under warranty and is experiencing an intermittent internal fault.the fault I am experiencing is the phone not recognising the SIM card every so often. It is fixed temporarily buly switching off and on again or removing and reinserting the sim.
My iPhone is up to date with the latest software and runs fine apart from this fault.

Why did the Apple genius  lie to me and try to make me pay for a replacement phone when mine is under warranty and is experiencing an intermittent internal fault.
There is more than one LI sensor.  In any case, there's no way for anyone but that genius to answer your question.  Why didn't you ask him when you were there?

  • Preventing water damage - ok for iPhone in a ziplock bag with silica gel packs?

I'll be in Florida next month on vacation, and I'll be outdoors a lot of the time. I know it rains a lot in the summer, so my preventive plan is to have a ziplock bag handy for my iPhone, and include a silica gel pack as insurance to dry up any moisture that may be present.
Is there any risk to my iPhone if I have it in close contact to a silica gel pack for an extended period of time?

No, but in your case the sealed bag is more important than the silica gel packet. Or invest in a waterproof case.

  • Can water damaged ipod classic be fixed?

i dropped my ipod in some water, and i tried the whole bag of rice trick, the ipod turned on once and hasnt since then.

Sorry to say this, but you need a new iPod.

  • Can water damaged ipod nano be fixed

My ipod was left outside overnight, was damp when found. Not working gut has been on windowsill for 5 days to dry out.Can they be fixed or is all hope lost & i have to buy anew one & download all my music again !!!!!!!!!!!

Apple will replace the iPod for a flat fee (they do not repair your unit). You can find pricing here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
There are third-party service centers that may offer repair services, but a nano has so few parts inside that it's perhaps unlikely that anyone could repair it for less than Apple's exhange service. But you can contact such a company and ask. Sorry, I can't make any recommendations as to a reliable company, though someone else here may be able to.
    Regards.

  • IPhone survived serious water damage. A success story!

I just wanted to let people know about the survival of my partners' iPhone 5 when faced with a 40 minute cycle in the washing machine at 30degrees.
We realised that the phone had been accidentally packed into a full load after about 40 minutes. We managed to cancel the wash and drag all the soaking wet clothes out.
Found the phone and immediately tried turning it back on (something I later read was probably a bad idea - but you don't read this kind of thing until its to late!) the screen remained black with no apparent life whatsoever.
After looking on the Internet for cures it seemed the most popular thing to do would be to seal the phone in a air tight container full of uncooked rice. We did this and left it on top of the boiler in the boiler cupboard where it would be warm. We were warned against taking a hair dryer to it.
In the meantime we contacted Apple to see how much repair would cost (we had no AppleCare) and we quoted something like £300.
After a full 4 days we took the phone and tried turning it on. Still nothing. I'd read somewhere that the phone shouldn't be plugged in to a charger but thought it would be worth a shot. After a couple of seconds the 'empty battery' 'please plug me in' symbol flashed up...there was life.
10 minutes later we checked the phone and yes, it was charging and yes it turned on! The phone received a load of backed up messages, connected to the Internet and most apps were working fine. Not all was working, the camera shutter wouldn't open and the screen looked very wet or damaged.
Hanging onto this miracle we decided to unplug the phone to avoid any issues and put it back into hibernation in its box of rice. After 2 more days the camera and all other apps were working perfectly. There was still an issue with the display. It looked better but still not 100%. We called a cowboy phone repair company to ask whether they could do anything with it, they believed there might be a corroded connection in the display and suggested speaking to Apple. Apple would fix it for £150. After further diliberation we decided to give it some more time to dry out.
Over 10 days we returned to the phone to find an almost perfect screen. Unless you tilt it to an angle there would be no sign of water damage. Success! Lets just hope it holds out in the long run.
I wanted to give anyone who has taken water damage to their iPhone some hope that with some patience you can save yourself a lot of money by just putting your wet phone in a box of rice in a warm place and leaving it for 2+ weeks. Even after a thrashing around a washing machine.

Hi WildTort! I would like to know if your phone continued to work? Did the camera ever start working?
I did the exact same thing: sent my iPhone 5 through a full wash cycle, set it into rice for almost 2 weeks, it's now working (everything except for the camera) although there are a few 'issues' with dropped calls and other blips.
Do you think I should let it sit for  a longer time without being turned on, or should i take the whole thing apart and try to clean it of corrosion in alcohol?
(I have only a month to go before my contract expires)
    thanks for your help!

  • Water damage iphone 6

My daughter drop my new iPhone 6 in toilet last night and I put in bag with rice. If I take it to Apple store tomorrow do you think they will be able to fixed? And do you know how much will it cost me ? thank you

Water damage is a difficult one and sometimes not repairable meaning that it is just buying a new phone im afraid
Apple do not cover accidental damage in their warranty repairs of services
If you can get away with making it seem like it was not accidental these are the out of warranty replacement costs but i don't think you will qualify for this if the water damage is obvious.
    iPhone 6 Plus: £266.44
    iPhone 6: £236.44
    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: £206.44
    iPhone 4s: £166.44
    iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G: £126.44

  • Water damaged iPhone 5c. what is the best thing for me to do?

i dropped my brand new iphone 5c in water. what is the best thing for me to do? should i just go straight to apple? and how much would i be looking at?

Fact is, the chances of fully recovering from water damage, on an iPhone, are extremely low. Your best bet is to belly up to the bar & pay Apple the out of warranty exchange fee: US $269. Make an appointment at any Apple store.
    Good luck.
