TS4196 Share Screen not available

I have tried to use the "Share Screen" function in Messages beta, but I notice that the option is shaded out.  When I asked someone to send me an invitation to share their screen from iChat, I do not appear as available to them.  My setting show I'm available. ??

Hi,
No.
Apple effectively let AIM or rather seems to give AIM the Apple IDs so that when you go to either https://settings.aim.com/ with @mac.com names or try to "re-register" and name at the registration page  you will get a message about the name being in use.
At the AIM registration page the full name of the account is technically [email protected]
However in most cases the username  is normally what you use in AIM capable messaging apps.
It is possible to activate the name as email as a separate step.
Currently you may have older @mac.com names from Apple as well as @me.com and @icloud.com issued by the iCloud registration process.
In Messages and iChat 6 all these variants will work.
However in iChat 5 and earlier version only the @mac.com names will work due to this Dual Login that the last two version make to me.com as well as AIM.com that allows the password to be "read".
Summary.
You can't "re-register" an Apple ID as AIM are already aware of it.
AIM can't "see" the password until iChat tells them they can look.
In iChat 6 and Message this includes and extra step that is created by the app also logging in to Me.com and this then confirms that AIM can "read" the password.
AIM names can be any other email if you wish your name to be that email. [email protected] for example  ([email protected] for another).
However creating a new name and to show it will be a name that is @Aim.com but this suffix is rarely used in any app - relying on the username only part.
It can be made to be an active email as a separate step.

  • Share my screen not available

    Greetings all,
    My Niece is at Auburn and I am trying to fix something on her computer but she is unable to share her screen with me. I am running OS-X 10.6.6 and iChat 5.0.3. She is on a MacBook running 10.5.8 and iChat 4.0.9. I can share my screen with her but not the other way. Her Share Screen is enabled. She is using an Airport. Her Dad was able to connect on an Intel iMac but not the Power PC. She mentioned he had to update iChat to 4.0.9 to get it to work which tells me he is on 10.5. Any suggestions?

    Niece misunderstood the diff between Sys Pref and iChat Pref. Thanks anyway...

  • Skype call share screen not working on Windows 7

    To see the Skype version, in Skype open Help -> About Skype.

    Hello Skype community! I have a little bit of a problem with my share screen function. This is on Windows 7, and it used to be fine before. My friend's screen, (We'll call her Flower for now), can show up just fine on my screen. But Flower cannot see my screen on her skype call.  Screenshot Flower's Laptop is also running Windows 7. I've tried quitting Skype, and even re-downloading it. Sadly, I'm not so sure what version of Skype Flower's running, or mine. Any help is appreciated!

  • "Share Screen" not working from MacBook to iMac

    Hello friends.
    I have an iMac (OS 10.6.6, 3.06 GHz core 2 Duo) and a MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.6, 2,53 GHz core 2 Duo)
    It's been a while since I had this problem, and I could not solve it.
    When I try to connect from iMac to MacBook (from Finder, in shared computers). I click into Share Screen and the login panel appears. After I type the user/password, the program "Share Screen" crashes and never get connected.
    It doesn't happen in the other way. I have tried to replace the program from one computer to other and still happening. I have the crash report in case it is needed.
    I hope that you could help me fixing this problem, as I am desesperated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    Usually when a program crashes in this way, it's a problem with the program itself rather than a configuration error.
    Have you tried the "Repair Permissions, Zap PRAM, Repair Disc" sequence?
    Good luck,
    Archie

  • Share Screen not working but connecting to computer to see files does!?!!

    Hi
    Strange but I can see the computer I need to share screen with in my shared devices and I can "CONNECT AS" and see all my shared files but I CAN NOT share screen. It is properly enabled and share screen works with all my other networked computer.
    Any ideas what gives here???!!! Thanks for any suggestions!

    Same problem here, cannot login into a MacPro (10.6.4) from another MacPro (10.6.4), or from a MacBook (10.6.4), or from a MacBook Pro (10.6.4), all of them located in the same network (intranet).
    As the original post, I can mount discs remotely, even ssh into the destination machine, but screen sharing (or even the simple vnc) just does not work.

  • Share option not available

    I have completed a project and when I go to share it I do not have the option, everything is grayed out. Also when i got to select a clip to change the length, it simply says no clip selected even though i can see everything in my project window.

    I have the same problem - in fact, none of the options under the "share" menu are available.

  • Share screen not working

    I have OS 10.5.1. So does my colleague. I have an iMac with a camera. He has an iMac without a camera. He has DSL (1.5 mbps), while I have cable modem (16 mbps).
    From everything I have read about iChat, he should still be able to share his screen with me.
    We can easily get an audio session going, but, whenever we try to initiate a sharing session to share his screen, we get messages saying it is starting up, but then nothing ever appears. Is the DSL line too slow? Are we being impatient to expect the sharing to start within a minute? Is his color setting too high? (We have tried to reduce it to Thousands with no success.)
    What is wrong? What else should we try?

    Hi,
    Apple have posted the ports iChat 3 uses.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208
    They have also published the Leopard ones (Without saying the Bonjour, Jabber and Login one are still needed)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688
    The Later article also says nothing about which ports the Screen sharing is done on.
    Reading other pieces of information you learn that the Screen Sharing is based on Apple Remote Desktop.
    In fact if in System Preferences > Sharing this is turned on you can not Screen Share from the Finder.
    This table lists ports for that
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439
    Namely port 5900 and 5988.
    However I run Little Snitch, an app/utility that will tell me the ports iChat is using at any one stage and to what IP.
    In iChat Screen sharing I have seen ports all over the place and not restricted to the one I have pointed as being listed.
    I use UPnP in my routing modem and this seems to cope with this.
    The Settings for Displays and the Speeds in this case are immaterial.
    Audio chats normally use about 20k or so on my Mac
    Screen sharing is about 48k (Probably just above what a dial-up modem might throughput) so both your speeds are good enough.
    I have not seen excessive speed be a problem here as it can be with certain Video chats as there is less data to buffer.

  • CAPTURE PREVIEW SCREEN NOT AVAILABLE

    Capturing from CANON XH A1, with all correct settings (I think so...), I can see in Premiere capture screen - original clip in PLAY. But when I press RECORD button, get a screen with multi languages (!) saying "Reprodution in Video Hardware". Clip is really captured, but without Preview.
    Otherwise, capturing in HDV Split, with exactly same settings, everything goes easy and correctly!
    What am I doing wrong?
    Like in previous questions, you help is useful and welcome. Thanks a lot!

    This is not so weird.  You need to remember that the transfer from your camera to the computer is a asynchronous communication.  Once the camera starts the transfer, it assumes that the computer is fast enough to transfer the information to the HDD without dropping frames.  With DV, this wasn't a major problem as the DV format allowed a bit for bit transfer at only 4 mb/sec with no processing--hence no processor delays.
    However, with HDV, the mpeg file is contained in a wrapper that must be removed before the the mpeg can be displayed and requires a much higher IO rate (25 mb/sec?).  It seems that Adobe made a design decision not to mess with this during capture and to not display the real-time image so as to minimize dropped frames on capture.
    There are standalone programs that can capture and display, but these programs have far lower overhead and memory requirements than does Premiere.
    Maybe when we're all running 64bit vista on multiple processor motherboards with huge memory and fast disk arrays, this crutch wont be necessary.

  • IPhoto share extension not available

    I’ve been accustomed in iPhoto to sending photos through Outlook (Outlook for Mac) Mail. However, in the new Photos Share ‘Apple and third party extension’ selection box, the options to use the extensions ‘Messages’, ‘Outlook Mail’ and ‘AirDrop’ are greyed out, and I cannot find any way to enable them. Since I downloaded Photos, this option is also greyed out in the iPhoto app.
    Furthermore, and, for me, more importantly, since installing Photos (and OS X 10.10.3), I’m unable, using the Outlook attachment button, to attach photo images to emails (from Outlook) from the Photos folder, because this folder (which to date has been the source of the images I attach to Outlook emails) now contains only a small crop of Photo Booth images.
    At the moment I seem to be deprived of both options to attach photos to Outlook emails, both of which were available before Photos installed. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Michael Dalton

    Okay, I just figured this out but it leaves me with another question. Once I switched to wifi, they options showed up. Bizarre. Why won't this work on a wired Internet connection?

  • Imovie share menu "not available"

    I've looked and can't find what must be a real simple explanation. I'm totally new to multimedia, and fairly new
    to Mac.
    I wanted to put an Obama speech on DVD so I can view it at lenght in compfort on my TV.
    I downloaded the flv file, converted to mp4 using iSquint, imported to iMovie.
    I get lots of frames. Can view starting at any point, and it looks and sounds good
    Now, from whatever I can find, I should be able to export to iDVD in one or two ways using the "share" menu. But the share menu is completely grayed out, and nothing there is selectable.
    Oh. I've got a relatively new intel imac, running leopard 10.5.2, and just did the software update.
    What obvious thing am I missing? Is there another better approach (without buying new software)?
    jrv is online now Report Post Reply With Quote

    Thanks, Matt.
    My continuing problem is that I can read faster than
    I can watch and listen, and I couldn't find a written
    "how to". But the little movie tutorial got me the
    answer pretty quickly. (less time than I spent looking
    for a written "how to").
    One problem is, listening to (and watching) a movie tutorial
    on any subject doesn't always answer a question. One doesn't
    know till its over. But one can scan a written "how to".
    Thanks aagain!

  • Automount: system hang on not available shares -- solution, alternatives?

    hello,
    i'm using snow leopard 10.6.5 on my macbook pro 13.3 with automount. my automount-entry looks like this (/etc/auto_master):
    /Users/abc/backup -fstype=smbfs ://abc:[email protected]/SHARE
    Works very well. I am connected to the network by wlan.
    Now I disable wlan (or switch my location to somewhere the share is not available). Once a programm (e.g. finder) tries to access the mount location, it hangs for ever. It should simply error out with something like "path not available" after e.g. 5 seconds and give up to try to connect (until the next access of the folder).
    So how can i have samba shares available when the network is up and no hang when the network is down? Is there any tool? I assume with "automount" it is not possible...?
    Regards,
    Markus

    simple shell script is the solution for different wlan.
    #!/bin/bash
    while true; do
    current_wlan="$(/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions /Current/Resources/airport -I | grep " SSID" | sed 's/.*SSID: //' | sed 's/ /__/g')";
    if [ -f "/etc/auto_mount/$current_wlan" ]; then
    if [ "$(readlink /etc/auto_lnk)" != "/etc/auto_mount/$current_wlan" ]; then
    rm /etc/auto_lnk;
    ln -s /etc/auto_mount/$current_wlan /etc/auto_lnk
    automount -c
    fi;
    else
    if [ -e "/etc/auto_lnk" ]; then
    rm /etc/auto_lnk;
    automount -c
    fi;
    fi;
    sleep 15;
    done;
    Simply run as root. Add /etc/auto_lnk to /etc/auto_master and put a file with auto_master-syntax in /etc/auto_mount/WIFINAME.

  • Share Screen does not work well when wifi is turned on.

    Hello,
    I'm having a minor little problem with Share Screen among 3 machines, 2 Lion OS mac pros connected with network cable, and a 3rd mbp laptop, also LION. I use share screen a lot and I am unable to connect from my main mac pro to the 2nd mac pro (via an ethernet cable) when wifi is turned on.....actually, I can connect, but it gets stuck on the "Connecting" screen and then 10 minutes later, it connects. When I turn wifi off, then hit Share Screen, the connection and response is very fast.
    After several hours playing with Sharing preferences....I think it seems like a network thing. I have checked network preferences, and re-ordered them to prioritize ethernet over wifi, powered off all devices including router, and everything else I can think of. btw, the share screen connection from my laptop to the mac pro is fine, even when wifi is turned on on the laptop.
    A simple work around is to just turn wifi off, make my connection, then turn wifi back on. But I'm curious and would like to solve this issue. It started after my 10.7.4 client combo update and has been working fine for several months before that, so I'd like to figure it out. Any ideas?
    Thanks for all the help on these boards.

    Nevermind.
    I had a failing hard drive (not the OS drive) in one of the drive bays. A couple of days after I posted this question, the drive (which has been at S.M.A.R.T. status "failing" for 6 months completely died, at which point the computer wouldn't even turn on. After removing the drive, everything with the Share Screen works fine, both over network cable and wifi.

  • Share Screen on ARD Does not work unless the user is logged on

    Since Upgrading to Lion, I have been unable to get the Share Screen in Apple Remote Desktop fuction working from Any machine. All Clients are on the latest agent of ARD and are completely upto date.
    When i try running the task when the clients are at the login screen, They just get a grey bar at the top of their screens. So it is recieveing the share screen task but not updating the image on the client machines.
    The only alternative is to get the users to login before we start the share screen task in ARD.  The issue with this is teachers prefer to be able to put work onto the screens before the pupils have a chance to log in and mess around on the machines.
    I have tried downgrading to ARDagent 3.4 on the clients, i have also tried turning off remote management and enabling again, like some have suggested.
    It would be great if someone has found a solution to this.
    Thanks.
