TS4268 Facetime...no icon in Settings, Contacts or anywhere else...how to I initiate Facetime when there is no icon?

I got a new iPhone 4S...my wife got an iPhone 4S at the same time. I set up one phone...no problem. When I set up the second there is no Facetime icon anywhere...in settings, contacts, home...anywhere. I have searched every place I can think on the phone. I have read on line posts that all tell me to go to settings and enable facetime...NO FACETIME ICON!

Settings > General > Restrictions
Make sure that FaceTime is not blocked.
Otherwise, restore the device as new.

2 iDVD icons
3 iMovie icons
2 iPhoto icons
2 Garageband icons
When i press and hold one icon the start to "jiggle" but theres no "X" on them.

I can also confirm this issue with iDVD anyway. I did a clean install of Lion and reinstalled iDVD from a retail iLife '08 DVD, then updated via software update. I have two iDVD icons in launch pad but only 1 iDVD app in the applications folder. Note that the version of iDVD I have is the latest, the same version that shipped with iLife '09 and later boxes of '11.

There is no FT icon for the main screen on an iPhone. It's accessed through Contacts.

Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS. Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages. If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)). Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation. If that does not fix things read the following articles:

How can I view my iCloud contacts from someone else's iPhone? I don't want to change their phone settings.

Yesterday I ran into a problem that was eye opening to say the least. I could not not access my contacts in order to find a friend's phone number. No one remembers phone numbers any more. God knows I don't.
I was on a jetski and it broke down. I was stranded at a dock miles away. I needed to contact my friend to tell him (a) I'm ok, (b) where I was, (c) to bring a tow. Of course I had no phone on me because it would have gotten soaked.
People were kind enough on the dock to let me use their smart phones to attempt to retreive the phone number and call for help. But I quickly discovered that it is impossible.
On an iPhone, I tried to use their Safari browser to go to www.icloud.com. When you do that, it simply redirects you to the apps. But it isn't my phone, and their apps are logged in to the owner's accounts. I wasn't about to update the settings in a stranger's phone.
One guy let me try his iPad with Cellular. Same problem as the iphones. It would not let me use www.icloud.com. It insisted that I use the native iOS apps.
On an Android, www.icloud.com would simply refuse to work. It would say it was not supported.
The question I have is: How can I view my contacts from someone else's smart phone in an emergency situation?
Second question: Why can't I use www.icloud.com on a smart phone's web browser like I can on regular computer?
I got lucky. I happened to know my mom's home number. Many hours later she was home and I was able to use a phone to call her. She brought up www.icloud.com on her home computer, logged on as me, and read me the phone number I was seeking. But what are the chances of being able to call a trusted person who has access to a computer to do this for you?

Without "pretending" to be yourself on the other phone (change settings) there's nothing else you can do.
iOS devices are meant to be single user and can't view iCloud.com the same way a Mac or PC can do.
You need to find a desktop or laptop machine (Mac or PC) to log in at iCloud.

Unable to open "compose mail/settings/contacts" in standard view in 2 out of 3 Gmail accounts. When "compose new mail" is selected "loading...." appears at the top then the page is frozen. ie you can't select inbox etc. Changing from standard to basic h/ml then clears the Loading... and gmail can be used (without spellcheck etc).
This might not be Mozilla, but I can access these accounts in standard view on another computer.

Your Gmail account may well be an IMAP account, just like the iCloud mail account. In which case it will work in just the same way as iCloud mail, except that you will have to set it up manually on each device, where as iCloud mail adds the account itself when you log into iCloud.
Whilst it works the same as iCloud mail it isn't iCloud that syncs it for you.

TS4268 facetime not working ipad mini

Hello,
facetime is turned on in settings and I can receive facetime calls but when I start facetime I get the message 'you have facetime turned off in settings, would you like to turn it back on'.
When I click the button it does nothing and after 30 seconds or so the button appears again asking if I want to turn it on?

HELP! Restore complete but missing settings, contacts, etc.!!!

I had to swap out my iPhone at the Apple Store and backed up before I brought it in. Got a new iPhone (same model - 32 GB 3GS) and when I go to restore from the backup it says restore complete but EVERYTHING is missing - contacts, email, settings, etc.
Any help will be much appreciated!!!

I brought it back because the silence "switch" stopped responding. They gave me a refurb, and when I go to restore that backup I did previously, it takes FOREVER, says it finishes and then just puts the media on. No notes, mail, settings, contacts, photos. I tried doing an older backup from when I just had the 3G and it went faster and worked. I am scared that although it is not telling me this, that the backup I need is corrupted.

The contacts bar is visible when I open FaceTime. How do I remove it. There is no close option for it.

Is it there after selecting a contact to initiate a FaceTime call and during the call?
You can't remove it when launching FaceTime to initiate a FaceTime call.

any specific reason you plan to "re-register"? just follow my steps below to re-calibrate battery and in order to reset and all you data will remain from before. settings like background picture, screen brightness, network and wifi will need to be reconnected.
1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)
3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)
4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)
5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

I purchased iphone 5S in Saudi Arabia; there are iphones promoted with Face Time app, sold here widely. When I purchased it, there was no explicit ad for Face Time with it. I have Gold, 64 GB. When I extensively searched for this app, i just found it in notifications (badges, alerts). I have not been able to find the app anywhere else in the phone. Would any friend here on this forum let me know how to set an email account for Face Time? I am not sure whether it actually exists in my phone. Thank you.

You may have noticed that this thread has been dead for almost 9 months now.
At the time it was authored, there was no facetime icon on the home screen. That was introduced in iOS 7.

After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
Relaunch the App and try again.
Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.
