TS4293 Trouble importing videos from Aperture.

I have Aperture and iPhoto installed.  When I try FILE>MOVIE>IMPORT from iMovie, Aperture is "greyed" out and I can only import from iPhoto.  How can I import my movie files from my Aperture library?

iMovies doesn't seem to support mpeg2, can you just copy what is on the camcorder onto your hard drive and then convert it to a Dv file, thats what I have to do.

  • Problem with importing videos from Aperture

I was able to import videos from Aperture within FCPX.  However, when I tried to import some older videos, the following error message appeared:
    "No importable files
None of the selected files or folders can be imported.  Change the selection and try again."
I noticed that all the video files older than about three months didn't work, and all the newer files worked, regardless what camera it was from (D800, iPhone, m4/3 camera)
I opened up the aperture library package and compared the permission for one video file that I could import, and one that I couldn't.  They have the same permissions, so it isn't a permission issue.  I tried exporting the problem video from Aperture and importing it into FCPX, and it accepted it.
The other thing I've noticed that is for the files that I imported from Aperture library, the video files in the Original Media folder are only around 250 KB.  It seems that they are only aliases.  All the more reason I need to find a way to drag videos from Aperture into FCPX, as the files aren't duplicated.
Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

Aperture drag'n'drop export only creates reference movies (which can break!)
    Background of your issue:
If you simply drag your video file(s) from the Aperture window to the Desktop (in my case a MP4 from my Galaxy Nexus, the original having 70 MB), Aperture does not copy the master or the version file, but instead it creates a reference movie file, which is a very small video container file (in my case: MP4, 26 KB) with no AV-content but only a reference to your master video file in your Aperture library, ~/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Masters/YYYY/MM/DD/YYYYMMDD-hhmmss/filename.
So by principle it acts like an "alias", but technically it is not a filesystem alias (filepath, ID within filesystem (inode), metadata), but a so called reference movie. If you meanwhile deleted/manipulated the master file from the Aperture Library, or changed something from the filepath (volume name, home directory name, etc) import in Final Cut Pro will fail of course, as it loads a mere reference movie, and fails to load the AV-content, as the master movie file cannot be found at the given filepath anymore.
Solution 1 (for the "tidy" users):
Make sure the filepath to your Aperture Library does not change (volume name, user name, custom library name), and hopefully Apple does not change their Aperture Library filepath scheme in future updates. Then the reference movie will remain pointing to a valid master file.
    Solution 2:
    In Aperture, select the file(s)
    File > Export Master (CMD-SHIFT-S)
Save file(s) to your desired destination
Import them into within Final Cut Pro
Of course this creates unnecessary duplicate content, which is specially painful with video files, which tend to be large.
    Solution 3 (advanced users):
Locate the master file (within the Aperture Library.aplibrary bundle) and import that in Final Cut Pro.
The import dialogue of many Mac OS X apps does not allow browsing into bundles.
A possible work around is to open the bundle in Finder (right click > Show package contents), locate the file, and then drag'n'drop it onto the import dialogue of Final Cut Pro.

  • I'm having trouble importing video from my panasonic hdc-tm900 into iPhoto.

it used to work fine (at 1080p/60) and when i plug it in to the computer it shows the older videos i have already downloaded, but not the new videos. they are all 1080/60. I'm running a new macbook pro with mavericks. i believe this is the first batch i tried to download with mavericks... i can only load the videos in one bunch ono the desktop and open them with quicktime, but can't export or import to iPhoto. curious!

What version of iPhoto do you have?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Try to import some videos from the camera and the Desktop to test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11

I am having trouble importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11.  The import screen shows up and recognizes the camera with the time counter activating but there is no image on the screen and the record or import buttons do not seem to do anything.  I have followed the instructions from the manual and others found online.  Someone please help.  Terry

    Hi Brady,
I have a new Everio HD that I have been fooling with all day. Finally got a clip into iMovie 6 ....but only once and I'm still figuring this out too.....if you are not using a HD camera this may or may not work for you.
The Everio Quicktime extension must be installed. (Download and install the patch if you upgrade to Leopard).
Is your camera an HD? If so you need to capture the clip in 1440 CDR not FHD (FullHighDef).
Launch iMovie 6. Create a new movie in Video format HDV 1080i . then plug in your camera via firewire.
Put the camera in playback mode (Play/REC), press the Function, select Dubbing Playback (bottom of the menu). You should get a menu with a start button now. Switch to iMovie 6 and select "Import". This should start the clip playing from the camera....you may have to hit the Start on the camera.
This should get your clips into i Movie.
We may be ably to create playlists and get them in that way too but I have not had any luck with the JVC instructions to do this. There are video tutorials on the JVC website too but again they have not worked for me.
There is also a way to get and work the FHD files but that is a USB file transfer followed by a file conversion. I'll tackle that a little later...
    Good luck,
    Roger

  • Can't import video from Canon ZR50

    Hi,
I'm having (a LOT) of trouble importing video from my DV camcorder (a Canon ZR50) into iMovie. I used to do this all the time (using this camcorder) with no problems whatsoever, but I haven't imported any video for a couple of years.
First, I got the error message that the camcorder was sending "half-frames" that iMovie couldn't accept and to change the recording speed to SP.
I changed the recording speed to SP, but still got the same error message. So, I then uplugged everything, restarted the computer, took the battery and the emergency battery out of the camcorder, waited five minutes, replaced the batteries, reset the date/time/recording speed (to SP), plugged the firewire back in, and got the same error message.
I then decided to go boot up my ancient blue dalmation iMac that I used to edit video on, and although iMovie said the camcorder was connected, when I hit either "play" or "import," even though the video would play on the camcorder, it wouldn't show up in iMovie.
PLEASE help me get my video onto the computer!!!
    Thanks so much,
    Sierra

  • Trouble Imprting video from canon hg 10 to imovie 08

Hi, I am having trouble importing video from my canon hg10 to imovie 08. When I try to import video imovie 08 tells me my camera is not connected even though it is. The canon hdd appears on the desktop. I have an intel core duo mac mini and have updated imovie 08 to v. 7.1. Any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Hope you all had a great Christmas.
Now back to the problem at hand. Nathan, did you get your Mac to recognize the camera.
I spend 2 hrs. with Apple Care x-mas morning, had to cut them off 'cause my children wanted to open their presents. Recorded them on my HG-10. Haven't had a chance to call back to continue case.
I want to find a solution, before having to go to the extreme of initializing the drive in camera.
    Anyone?

  • Aperture isn't importing videos from iPhone, only photos. I've tried plugged in and over wifi. Help?

Aperture isn't importing videos from iPhone, only photos. I've tried plugged in and over wifi. Help?

How did you transfer the photos from your other iPhone? If you did it by importing them from the old phone to a computer and then used iTunes to sync them back to the new phone, then you would delete them by syncing again using iTunes but this time change the selection of which photos are to be synced. Each time you sync using iTunes, it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings/selection in iTunes.

how do you import video to Aperture or imovie from a dvd with a unix executable file?

Allan's suggestion of using the iDisk will work but will fill up the iDisk unless you do housecleaning occasionally. Another, non Apple way would be to upload them to an account on Twango.com. It sort of like MyTube but for photos and videos and is more personal in nature. It's free (monthly uploads are limited to 250MB/mo) and others can easily pop into your public channel (individual sections of a person's account are called channels) and download whatever size you want. You can select the size of your uploads from full sized to 1600, 1024 or 640 pixels max. What I like about the site is that you can email photos to your account. Makes it rather easy. You can also add slideshows and a ticker tape type of display from Twango to web pages (they create the code to use for the channel you select) like this. It's not an Apple thing but I've found it's quick. May or may not be what you're looking for.
    Do you Twango?

  • Importing Video from a Canon 7D

Has anyone tried importing video from a Canon 7D in Aperture 3? My videos don't show up at all in the Import dialog.

Figured it out myself actually... If I switch the "RAW+JPEG Pairs" parameter to Import "Both Separate Masters" it works fine. If it's set to RAW only, it doesn't seem to see the Video files.

  • I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this?

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

  • After upgrade to IOS8 can't import photos from Aperture

I upgraded to IOS8, reset my iPad to factory settings and reinstalled all my apps from scratch.
When go into iTunes and I select to import photos from Aperture on my Mac it hangs.
I have an old iPhoto library on my Mac and if I select photos from that it works.
I have switched off everything to do with iCloud after seeing some posts that this might be causing the problem, but not a solution for me.
(I have over 28,000 photos in my Aperture library).

Did you turn on iCloud Photo Library? I suspect it may remove the ability to sync photos and videos between Macs and iOS devices.

  • When importing photos from aperture photos are blurry

I have been making a video and up to now no problems. Then today i was working on it and when i started adding some more photos from aperture they were fuzzy and blurry.
In aperture they are crisp and clear but the minute i put them in imovie they are blurry and not useable.
I have imported photos from aperture and iphoto both and had no issues so not sure what is going on today.

I think I just figured this out.
Go into Aperture preferences and go to "previews" tab.  Set "photo preview" to "don't limit" and turn the quality all the way up.  Then select all your photos, go to the "photos" menu, hold down the option key and click "generate previews".
It appears that the library sharing is just using the generated previews from Aperture which default to poor quality.  You need to turn up the quality and then force a re-render of all your previews.  iMovie should pick this up (but won't update your slideshow...).
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed by those defaults.   Wasted hours of my time as I rebuilt the slideshow with better versions of my photos.
    Hope that helped.

  • How to import Video to Aperture?

How to import Video from Sony alpha nex-7  to Aperture?

    See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5301
Support for AVCHD was not added to Aperture until version 3.3, which requires 10.7.x to run.
But iMovie should work with your camera if you do not plan to upgrade to Aperture 3.3.x

  • Cannot import photos from aperture

Up until yesterday I've had no problems importing photos from Aperture (3.1.3) during the iPhone (4.3.5) sync process. Now iTunes (10.4.1) presents me with a dialogue window containing the following message: "The iPhone "xxx" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." The photo files are there in Aperture. If I uncheck all of the detail boxes, but leave the "Sync Photos from Aperture" box checked the sync process completes successfully, but no photos were copied to the iPhone because none were selected. I've rebooted the iMac, etc. And, of course, if I leave the "Sync Photos from Aperture" box unchecked the sync process completes successfully.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    George

I thought my core issue was that my single library has this iPhoto icon associated with it.  I'd prefer it to be considered as an Aperture library.
Are you looking at the correct libary in the Finder? That icon is puzzling.
What are the versions of iPhoto and Aperture that you are using?
If you have upgraded your photolibrary by the latest versions of Aperture (Aperture 3.4.5) and iPhoto (iPhoto 9.4.3) the icon should be the same for both iPhoto libraries and Aperzure libraries. If you are not yet using the latest version, consider to upgrade, because you are missing out on some bug fixes.
The "Kind" displayed in the Finder will depend on the filename extension. A library created by iPhoto should have the extension "photolibrary" and the Aperture libraries "aplibrary".
Check also the settings in Image Capture:
In Image Capture you can set the application to open for each device individually. It might be possible, that you have set a diffrent application to open in Image Capture: I have set all my devices to "No Application" in "Image Capture". This way I can decide, if I want to open iTunes or Aperture, when I connect my iPad or iPod.
If you are really troubled by the "Kind = Photo Library" you can convert that by importing the iPhoto Library into a new, empty Aperture Library. Then Aperture will set up the internal database files with the "Kind = Aperture Library".
    Regards
    Léonie
