TS5150 Having sound issues.

Please help! I have sound (effects) when navigating ATV, but no sound when anything is started. Purchased items, YouTube, Netflix, iTunes movies... nothing plays sound. Also, same problem when mirroring a device iPhone or iPad. Any thoughts?
PS: History - Has been working fine for over 1 year. About 2 months ago, remote went out. Thought it was the batteries because it would intermittenly work and then died. Replaced batteries and remote still did not work. Downloaded app for iPhone remote and have been using app to operate ATV. About 1 week ago could not get sound to play as described above. BTW, remote control still not working and I tried the hold down the < and MENU thing.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi sebdumai,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the basic steps in the article above (Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting audio issues) did not resolve the situation. If you were not able to restart the device using the remote, I recommend doing so using one of these methods:
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
Unplug the Apple TV power cord for three seconds, and then plug it back in.
Apple TV: How to restart your Apple TV
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3180
If you continue to experience the issue after completing the above steps, try these steps:
Set the audio output mode for the Apple TV:
With your Apple Remote, select Settings > Audio & Video.
Change the Audio Output setting from Auto to 16 bit.
Turn off the Dolby Digital Out setting (your TV or receiver may not be properly detecting a Dolby Digital signal):
With your Apple Remote, select Settings > Audio & Video.
Change the Dolby Digital Out setting from On to Off.
Regards,
Jeremy

  • What is a packet problem? I'm having sound issues.

I'm at my wit's end. I am having sound issues. I've run diagnostic tests and everything comes back as OK, but it's not OK! Something somewhere is messed up and I can't figure it out.
I have been to the help rooms on paltlak and opened up support tickets and everything they told me to try has not helped. They suggested I change the sound tuning on my chat program, change exceptions on my firewall, uninstall and reinstall chat program, uninstall and install earlier version, download drivers for sound card, and etc. Nothing is helping this problem.
Someone mentioned that it may be router problems or packet problems. I'm not sure what that means, and that is why I'm on this forum asking for help. I have no other sound problems on my computer. My music and videos play fine. It's just when I'm in a voice enabled chat, do I experience these problems, or if I'm on a website that has videos, the video will not load all the way, so I only get 30 seconds of a video. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I have used this chat service for over 5 years and up until a week or so ago, it worked fine. I did a complete reformat of my computer in hopes that it would help, but I'm still having the same problems. I lose sound within 5 seconds of entering the chat room. Then it takes between 3-5 minutes before I hear sound again, but then I only hear it for a few seconds. Then it goes away for another few minutes. Repeat. Over and over again.
I'm running Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire 380 with wireless cable modem. I keep losing sound in any voice/sound enabled chat and on any site that has videos. I have 1gig of ram, 300 gb hard drive, 32 bit operating system, 2 processor cores, directx version 9, realtek sound card. Everything is up to date, and firmware is up to date. My speed test is: download: 6.162 mbps and upload: 926 kbps.
When I do the ipconfig/all, it shows
Tunnel adapter local aera connection* 6: Media State: Media disconnected
    description: teredo tunneling pseudo-interface
    dhcp enabled: no
    autoconfiguration enabled: yes
I don't know if this has anything to do with my sound issues on the chat program or not. ??
    Also shows:
    node type: hybrid
    dhcp enabled: yes
    autoconfiguration enabled: yes
    default gateway: 192.168.1.1
    dhcp server: 192.168.1.1
    netbios over tcpip: enabled
If by chance it is a packet problem, how do I fix that?

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it just started recently and after not being able to fix the problem, I completely reformatted my computer and started with a fresh slate, but still having the same problems. The videos will not continue to load. They get less than half way and then just totally stop loading, therefore I only get to view the video up to the point where it stops loading. I just took your advice and I disconnected the router and connected my computer directly to the modem and my sound issues were fixed. I went into the voice chat and had sound for over 10 minutes (and then I disconnected) instead of the usual 5 seconds that it'd been. So is it the linksys that is causing this? If so, how can I fix it? Thank-you. Message Edited by nightrider7000 on 01-22-2008 11:34 AM

  • I'm having sound issues with my iphone 3gs

Ok, so the speaker sound on my iphone 3gs has stopped working.  The only sound I do get is my ringtone and if I play a voicemail.  I also do get sound when I plug headphones in.  However, whenever I get a text message or an email, my phone vibrates even though my ringer is on.  I don't hear the click sound when I unlock my screen or type anything.  If I push the volume side buttons, the small, black volume/ringer box does not appear and if I play music the volume adjustment setting is missing.  I've reset my phone, I've backed it up, I've messed around with the sound settings, my software is up-to-date, I've tried cleaning my headphone jack with a q-tip and nothing has worked.  I have no idea why the sound stopped working since the speaker sound worked earlier today, I haven't dropped it, and I've only had this phone for about a year.  Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sad to report that I have the same issues between three to four times a day.  Before I got my iPhone 4S (first iPhone I've owned, btw) I used to have a Sony Ericsson C902 that I operated along with a bluetooth headset HBH-DS205 that used to work perfectly together.  Now, with the headset and the iPhone 4S I keep noticing that the connection breaks and all I can do to restore it is to turn the headset off and on every time.  I listen to music all day long on the headset and this issue can get to irritating levels.  Also sometimes I feel stupid as at work I'm one of the few 4S owners and, the iPhone being a state of the art device, my coworkers get to see me scrambling to figure out whether I need to bring the phone up to my ear or just one of the earpieces to my ear.  The headset also has a answer/hang-up button that as of late, for the same reason, I cannot know for sure will start or end a call.  I would hate to be forced to drop the headset as I really love it too.

  • Having sound issues after recent IOS 6.1.2 update

After updating my Iphone 4s with IOS 6.1.2 the phone does not make any sounds. The headphones work but no sounds of any kind (keyboard, notification, games, music) nothing

Try a hard reset. press the home button and the power button for 30 seconds. once you see the whit apple let it go.
Also, isolate the issue by creating a video and a voice memo.  (If theres no sound on either restore as new and then if the issue persists get a replacement.)
lastly, check to make sure the mute button is not on at the top left of the device( no red should be showing)

  • Razr M having sound issues after 4.4.2 update.

So I turned my phone screen on and I saw that I had a update to do the 4.4.2 update and I left it while it updated. I came back and saw that everything was new but the sound keeps making this clicking noise. So when I get a text I hear an odd click followed by my text message tone. It's not just for notifications either, it does it before ringtones and even on the screen lock sound. I was wondering if anyone else had this, I haven't had the phone itself too long either.

PLEASE STOP posting useless "safe mode/master reset" crap in here. It's obvious that these problems are happening to people RIGHT after the software update, and many have already said that they have already reset, etc, and done all this, and it doesnt help. Also, if you actually read, the Motorola forum post I linked to, people have reported similar and nothing fixes it. The update itself caused it. NOT any other apps running. If you have nothing productive or actual troubleshooting to add, please remain silent. Anything else, and you just post in here looking like robotic ******. That's my 2 cents.

  • Still having Sound issues/ Individual parts too Quiet

After following advice graciously given by TP2GO, to use BatChmod to modify the music folder containing iTunes music files, many of my MP3s continue to have grave sound problems. Main parts of a given song will be inexplicably quieter than they should be, while the rest of the accompanying instrument parts will play as normal. An entire rythm guitar part, for example, has nearly dissappeared into the background. Entire piano parts have nearly vanished from the foreground.
I have tried to play and then import CDs with which I am very familar, especially in consideration to the sound of each instrument on a chosen track. Both the CD and the imported track play perfectly well without any such drastic alteration to the sound. Only music files imported previous to a recent iTunes or Quicktime update, possibly the most recent, however I remain unsure of that, are affected in this way. I am truly not sure of whether this problem is a direct result of iTunes, or Quicktime, or anyupdate thereof, but the the MP3 files are stored exclusively in my iTunes directory and makes these two closely interwoven programs my primary suspects.
Another strange phenominon: I've downloaded from a filesharing program some of the same MP3s which are affected on my computer. When playing these newly downloaded MP3s, the song remains the same, as it were. I thought perhaps, since my download directory was the iTunes music folder that the same thing affecting my other files stored there could be at play in this case as well. So I deleted the file and changed my download directory to the desktop. After downloading the file again the results were the same. Perhaps this is a problem affecting a my computer on a larger scale.
    David Babsky has suggested:
"Sounds like 'phase reversal' ..that's to say that instead of things which may be on both stereo tracks appearing to come loud and clear from the centre, they're now "inside out", and have disappeared towards the background: they're subtracted from the overall sound instead of being added together. [..Similar to what happens when the two images of a 3-D film get out of sync, and 3-D images appear "inside out" instead of protruding from the projection screen..]."
I followed his advice to revert to an earlier version of Quicktime, but to no avail.
I've seen one other post about this same problem from Vic Williams.
I had no problems upgrading with iTunes or any other problems with the program itself. It runs perfectly well, no random startups or otherwise weird stuff going on. My computer seems to be quite clean of curruption in the file structures and so forth. No viruses, etc. I recently downloaded MainMenu 1.4.4 from MacUpdate.com and did a full sweep of my computer with it.
    Any suggestions? Anyone?
    Thanks...Will

go to control panel and them device manager. when the window comes up go down to sound and open it so you can see realtek. highlight realtek and click on the icon at the top of the window for update driver.(one with a green arrow pointing up) if there is a newer driver it will tell you. if not it will say you have the best one.

My sounds occasionally stops working after upgrading to iOS 6.  Is anyone else having sound issues with iOS 6 or greater?

I am having this same issue on my iPhone 4. The most recent update to iOS 6.1 didn't fix it either. Has anyone found a fix for this problem? It doesn't happen often, maybe every third day or so but requires power off, power on to bring the sound back.

  • Intermittent Sound Issues - HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and have been running into some strange sound issues first.
First, on occassion when I start my laptop I will get a "No Audio Output Device Installed" Message, and no sound controllers show up in the device manager.  Strangely, sometimes if I restart the laptop or put it into hibernation and bring it back, the output device will again work.
Also, when it is working I am experiencing other strange issues.  Often, sound will work only through headphones, and not through the built in Altec Lansing speakers.  Other times, even with the headphones plugged in, I only get sound through the speakers.  And sometimes, no sound through either, even though the computer at this point is showing a working audio device.
Lastly, when the sound does work through the speakers, it is normally crackling and distorted - it doesn't sound right at all.
The sound device installed on the computer is Contextant Smart Audio 221 (At least when it chooses to be working...)
I hope there is a solution to this problem, thank you very much for any support!

I also have a HP Pavillion laptop, with Windows Vista..  I am having sound issues, but not the same ones..  mine often displays the volume bar on the screen, clicking like I'm turning it up or down.. I can't get it to stop or go away.. I usually have to reboot and most of the time it stops, until the next time I open the laptop.  Also, when it's not doing this, I can't control my volume from the touch pad volume control at the top of my keyboard.  I thought maybe it was just damaged because it seems to have some scratches in that area where the top connects when closed, but I didn't think it made sense that rebooting will stop this, even temporarily.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, however, one driver didn't come back.. it actually seemed to be better at first, but now I have to reboot it almost everytime I open it.  I thought if I didn't leave it in hibernation, just turn it off, while not using it, that would help, it didn't.  I have also tried updating the drivers and they are updated.. If anyone knows what else I can do, please help, it's terribly annoying, plus I have a lot of music on it, I'd like to listen to it sometime.

  • Iphone sound issues?

Is anybody else having sound issues with their iphone? Ive had my phone for a few months now, and the sound on the part where you hear, and the speaker phone part cut out for awhile. Randomly..... That was about 3 weeks from having the phone. It came back on for a few days, and its not been working for a good month until today. I never changed any of the settings for anything, not even for the ringtones, or sound, nothing. In order for me to talk on the phone id have to have it on speaker phone to work. But I could never hear sound through those speakers when playing music, i could only do it through talking on the phone(hoping this makes sense so far). Im just curious to know if anyone else has had the same problem cause its kind of an annoyance to spend 400 bucks on a phone when you have these issues.

Just had another call to Apple support. This time they suggested sticking the headphone jack in and out a few times in case the phone was registering it was in headphone mode. This seems to have worked! (I think I've only used the headphones about twice.)
How on earth did the phone decide it was in headphone mode?! Result seems satisfactory but I don't think this should happen in such an expensive gadget.

  • Equium A300D Sound Issue on Vista

Hi, I am currently having sound issues with my Toshiba laptop.
I am running Windows Vista (32 bit). The problem first occured after a windows update, I can't remember what exactly I did but after searching the net for some solutions I quickly found numerous threads regarding the same issue. I followed the instructions for the 'quick-fixs' that people stated throughout the forums. After numerous attempts with messing with regedit and such programmes and hours of searching the net I decided to try here. After messing around with the sound dependencies I now get a differernt issue.
When I hover my mouse pointer over the sound icon in the bottem right screen it states:
    Volume: 0
    Speakers
    Conexant High Definition Smartaudio221
When I attempt to higher the volume by right clicking the icon and clicking sound I get 3 tabs:
    Playback, recording & sounds.
Under Playback I get 3 sound devices:
Speakers (Conexant High Definition Smartaudio 221) - Working *A green tic beside it
SPDIF Interface (Conexant High Definition Smartaudio 221) - Working
Digital Output Device (High Definition Audio Device) - Working
    I tried uninstalling the drivers and installing again from [here|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/vista_drivers.jsp?macId=&mode=allMachines&userOS=& action=search&selCategory=2&selFamily=382&selSerie s=173&selProduct=798&selShortMod=727&selOS=26&selT ype=42&country=17&language=13&useDate=1&dayupload= 6&monthupload=12&yearupload=1999&search=]
I am sure I installed it correctly but I am still having the same problem: When I go into my Speakers properties and click the tab Levels, nothing comes up, it's just blank.
    Any ideas would be helpful

    Hello
I believe that Windows updates can be responsible for this sound issue. Because of that I have disabled automatic updates. Before I install updates I use option View Available updates to see what is listed exactly. I have removed all checkmarks in front of optional updates. Maybe you should do the same and avoid installation of some updates that can have negative influence on well working sound, mouse or other hardware components.
If you are sure it is because of Microsoft update the first step you can try is to roll back OS to earlier time before you have installed all those updates.
Have you used TEST option for speakers? Any result?
    Can you hear Windows sounds?
It is really stupid situation. At the end you must install OS again using recovery image. :(
