TSA5UP24 vs NetWare 6.5sp8
Hi,
This happens all too often with Novell...
TSA5UP24.zip released in March 2010.
NetWare 6.5 sp8 released in Oct/Nov 2008.
TSAFS.NLM from TSA5UP24
v 6.52.09
Oct 16, 2008, 10:18am
TSAFS.LM from SP8
v 6.53.03
Oct 16, 2008, 9:58am
So which is the newer nlm?
SMSUT.NLM from TSA5UP24
v 1.01.03
Aug 14, 2007
SMSUT.NLM from SP8
v 1.01.03
June 26, 2008
So which is newer?
SMDR.NLM from TSA5UP24
v 6.57.06
Feb 15, 2010
SMDR.NLM from SP8
v 6.58.01
Oct 16, 2008
So which is newer?
Maybe "the magic is in the MIX!"
Is it really so hard to keep this stuff (versioning, datestamps)
straight? Makes one wonder about the CODE itself - what regressions might
have been re-introduced.
And yes I am looking for a fix to a problem that a newer set of sms
modules might (ever hopefull) fix... (In case you are curious it is an
issue with Arkeia - the 'new' sms based agent eats ram and never releases
it eventually leading to out of memory errors and either a reboot or an
abend and a reboot...)
So - is it possible that someone out there knows or could find out which
of the above nlms are the most current/correct versions? That would be
great!
Thanks,
Ron
Here's the answer we got back from Novell Development:
the modules in TSA5UP24 are not newer perse, but only address an
issue customers ran into that when migrating the NW boxes to Linux.
TSA's not connecting and some other problems
So unless you are migrating, you may not even have a real need to apply
this fix
So it seems TSA24 won't help with your issue.

Novell Open Enterprise Server, NetWare 6.5
PVER: 6.50.08Hello,
in addition to what Andrew Taubman said you might also consider patches
for NSS (16th June 2010), TCPIP (10th Feb 2010) and updates for your
BX2.LAN driver to version 5.01 (4.42 was not very stable) from Broadcom.
But first take care about iprint.

Howto setup CIFS - windows2008 to connect to netware 6.5sp8
Hi, how do i setup cifs to connect or allow users in AD to map to a folder on our netware 6.5 server.
We are about to migrate from Netware 6.5 to windows 2008.
i do not know how to allow users who are migrated over to AD but also need to access shared folders which are also used by the netware users.

How to customize / integrate Netware 6.5SP8 with postpatches
Hi,
I would like to integrate / customize the original NW65SP8 with some recommended postpatches.
Therefore I created a small .IPS / .ICS file which is working fine if runnning manually with NWCONFIG.
When try to implement it in e.g. SILENT.ICS the orinal script stops working.
Any Ideas where and how I can integrate my own script without affecting the general functionality of the update process ??
I need a solution which allowing the execution of my script after standard procces has finished and before the server will automatically restarts.I'm not sure how t do this and I am probably going to stat the obvious here. You could add your script at the end of the IPS file before the server reboot. I'm sure you have tried that, but if not, that is what I would do. Maybe you could create a unattended install that might also let you add in the script.

Webalizer on Netware 6.5sp8 with Apache2
Has anyone got this to work? I finally upgraded the web server machine
from nw5.1 to nw6.5 and can't seem to get this to work. It worked on the
nw5.1 system. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yeah, I tried SYS:/ for the path also, did not work.
This is the package I grabbed
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/13763.html
I also tried a new compile,
http://www.gknw.de/mirror/webalizer/...-10-en-nlm.zip
That caused lots of libc errors.

Netware 6.5sp8 DHCP Locator Object deleted
Hi,
I have somehow deleted the DHCP Locator object. I have tried using
DNIPINST, iManager and the DHCP java console to recreate the object, but
without success.
Any ideas on how to recover these object(s)
Regards
JohnHi, I did restart DNS and DHCP and I do have a replica on the server then
out of desperation I put the option 6 into each subnet and all is good. (for
now). One thing I have noticed is that all the items in the "No-Forward
List" have disappeared. I think the list is stored in e-dir or in a file
somewhere. I don't really want to re-enter these urls. Is there a way of
finding this info.

OSX 10.6.2 and Novell Netware eDirectory 8.8 SP5
Ok, forgive the long winded post - but I thought some background would be in order. Briefly, the problem we have is:
We create a new user in eDirectory, extended them with apple-user,
add apple-user-homeDirectory of:
/Network/Servers/<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory
and an apple-user-homeurl of:
afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory
AFP works fine, I can manually mount this volume with login / password in OSX with Command-K
LDAP authentication works great.
After login, no home directory is mounted or exists, so we get an error (login still occurs).
Now, if I change the apple-user-homeurl to:
<home_dir><url>afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOL</url><path>HomeDirectory</path></home_dir> (this is how an X Serve stores this value in Open Directory) and attempt to login, login fails "because an 'error' occurred"
If I check the console / system logs on the OSX client, I see:
authorizationhost[455]: afp home directory mount failed in theEnumerator->Count in AFP_OpenSession: status = Unknown error: -5023
Now, for the weird part, if I change apple-user-homeurl on the user back to:
afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory - login then works fine and their home directory is created and they are able to use the Mac normally.
Any ideas? I will post this to Apple forums as well. If I get any answers I will cross-post them.
Thanks,
Joe Jenkins
ps: Novell, please please please, we really need a working OSX client for Netware / OES!!!
Background:
New Netware 6.5SP8 server / eDirectory 8.8 SP5 / latest NMAS
Latest Novell AFP FTF patch from mid Sept 2009
Edirectory schema extended and LDAP mappings made with documentation I pieced together on the web. If I browse via ldap, I am seeing proper returns for all the objects I need to login.
Mount object created in Edirectory for the AFP mount corresponding to users home directories.
OSX test client is Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (patched this morning, clean install)
Authentication works fine, client works fine once I do the switcheroo with the apple-user-homeurl as indicated above, AFP mounts work fine in OSX, no weird errors in NMAS/LDAP dstrace, AFPTCP.log etc
By the way, if anyone else is trying to figure this out, my LDIF and my LDAP template may be of use:
http://www.nerdnet.com/edirldifandplist.zip
The LDIF is the Apple schema you apply to your eDirectory to support OS X computers. The template is used by the Directory Utility on OSX for mapping eDirectory values to their OSX values. It's taken me about two weeks of work off and on to get a working set of these, hope they save someone else some time!
Thanks to whoever wrote the "Integrating Mac OS X and Novell eDirectory" document - it was a great help, as is Randy Saek's posts here and his written document "Mac OS X and Novell eDirectory integration" - with these documents and numerous posts on Novell's forums, I've almost got this working well (these documents are available all over the web, but if you can't find them, let me know and I'll put them on my webserver)
Cheers,
Joe JenkinsA long winded post deserves a long winded reply! Are you serving the home directories from Novell's AFP file server? If not -- if you're serving them from a Mac server -- then nevermind all this.
If so, you may need to create a generic mount object in your eDirectory tree (not an AppleShare object -- I've never been able to get that working)
Get Properties of the mount object and, under the "Other" tab (I'm assuming you're using ConslowOne) add the following attributes: values (or whatever variations of them are appropriate for you)
apple-mountDirectory: /Network/Servers
apple-mountOption: net
apple-mountOption: url==afp://;AUTH=NO%20USER%[email protected]/staff-network-drive
(yes, apple-mountOption gets two values! i just wrote the attribute twice for clarity)
apple-mountType: url
Once I had this in place I still had to do some fiddling with how to specify the home directory for each user. I settled on
OSX Home: /Network/Servers/10.9.7.11/student-network-drive/Users/stevejobs
(you would put this in apple-user-homeDirectory, not OSX Home. We just mapped things a little differently.)
apple-user-homeurl: <homedir><url>afp://10.9.7.11/student-network-drive</url><path>Users/stevejobs</path> </homedir>
Note how we have Users/stevejobs in the path section. This is different than how Workgroup Manager will save it, even though it will appear to be the same path if you look at it in WGM (thanks, apple.) Unfortunately the way WGM saves it doesn't work (at least, I couldn't get it to) so you can't use WGM to assign this attribute. I ended up writing a shell script to do it.
Hope that helps. If you want the shell script, I can probably dig it up but make sure you know what you're doing with it. It is tailored to our system and I didn't bother writing any exception handling, so it could very well nuke your system, call you names and eat your dog. -
Image backup/restore of Netware Server
I am running netware 6.5sp8 and need to increase the VOL1 NSS volume. I plan on removing the RAID5 4x36GB drives and replace them with RAID5 4x72GB drives. I had hoped to image the server using ZDM 7.0 sp1, swap the drives and restore the image.
I have looked for documentation on how to do this and really can't find anything. I am specifically looking at how to increase the VOL1 partition on the restore.
I know about removing the replica, and iprint and DNS will just have do be down during this time.
No money for Portlock :-(
Any suggestions? With the Smart Array, you can do exactly as I have suggested. You would want to apply latest HP BIOS / Firmware DVD / CD ( you boot it, and it updates the firmware on everything ) just to make sure you have latest array firmware to avoid issues. Then you pop ONE disk, replace with the larger capacity disk, and let the array rebuild. The HP driver will indicate when the array has rebuilt, as well as the LED indicators on the drives. Then rinse, repeat. After all the drives are done, you can go into the array configuration utility ( via SmartStart CD, or via the array config utility for NetWare - I suggest using the SmartStart CD ) and you'll be able to create a second array from the unused space. Then a second logical volume. Blah... blah... blah... and there you have it.

Netware - OS X 10.9 Printers Install to file:///dev/null
SUMMARY: Printers install incorrectly with the iPrint 5.74 client to OS X 10.9.x workstations from an iPrint Manager on Netware 6.5sp8 with the iPrint .8f patch. Their URI is set to file:///dev/null , which makes them appear to operate correctly but no jobs ever reach the printer.
LONGER VERSION:
This may be a function of Netware. I have a server running Netware 6.5 sp8 with the iPrint 8f patch and workstations with latest OS X iprint client (5.74). OS X is at 10.9.1. When I install a printer from this server, jobs submitted appear to print correctly but never actually come out of the printer. The iPrint Management web interface shows that no new jobs have been submitted to the printer.
A packet trace shows no traffic from the workstation to the printer.
Looking deeper, I see that the OS X iPrint client does NOT list the printer as an iPrint printer in its GUI interface. However, OS X DOES show a printer of the same name as existing. During installation, the iPrint client does give a popup indicating that the printer was installed correctly. When iPrint's trace.txt is examined, the installation of the printer is logged, but not the submission of print jobs to it. The errors.txt file indicates that at least one printer has the URI file:///dev/null but the name of the printer is not indicated.
When the OS X CUPS interface is examined directly, I find that the printer that was just installed via iPrint does indeed have its URI set to file:///dev/null .
Machines with OS X 10.8 and below print correctly and are set to the proper ipp URI instead of file:///dev/null. Printers installed from an OES manager are fine even on OS X 10.9. Also, printers that do have the URI problem get otherwise correct information during installation -- they receive correct name, location, and driver.
The release notes for the 8f iPrint patch for Netware explicitly mention 10.8 compatibility but not 10.9. I see elsewhere that the 8f patch may have been created in response to an Apache hog created by OS X 10.9, so that release is within the calculations of the Dev team (and was already released when the 8f patch appeared). However, it does appear that there is a 10.9-related bug even in the 5.74 client.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is anyone aware of a work-around?
If anyone is interested in investigating, a can provide lots of logs.
I have also submitted a bug on this issue via the regular bug reporting page.Originally Posted by rdemaster
I believe I have a the same problem with the iPrint appliance and OS X 10.9. Would be interested in any work around.
Simon Flood has helpfully pointed me towards the root issue: Space names in the printer cause problems in 10.9. There is now a TID for the issue -- 7014704 -- but no work-around. However, I'm sure there will be a client fix soon. -
How to Migrate 2 Netware SLP to OES 2SP3
I have two netware servers that are replica to my tree but not master replica and I like to migrate slp netware 6.5sp8 to oes 2 Sp3 linux. How do go about migrating slp?

More or less you'll want to use:
net.slp.isDA = true
net.slp.useScopes = myScope1
net.slp.dasyncreg = true
slp.DAaddresses = IP_address_1,IP_address_2
(where "myScope1" can be your EXISTING SLPDA scope that you used for NetWare) and where the IP's will be your "new" servers (OES2) if replacing your NetWare DA, although it can also be a mix (ie, IP1 is the OES2 server and IP2 is your existing NetWare SLPDA). -
Same usernames, internal vs. external domains, conflict when usingWebAccess
Currently running GW 8.0.2hp2 on NetWare 6.5sp8.
We have a single domain and single post office, and a single WebAccess
and single GWIA gateway. We about 25 external domains setup to allow
using external users' e-mail addresses our in internal corporate address
books and distribution lists following the procedure outlined here:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/...a/a2zvyc4.html
The problem is that one of my internal users in our corporate domain/PO
has the same userid as a user in one of the external domain/PO's. So,
for example, their e-mail addresses are:
[email protected]
[email protected]
Everything works except that my internal user cannot use GW WebAccess.
Trying to login to WebAccess results in the following error:
"Please login again. You may have typed your name or password
incorrectly. Remember that your user name must be unique."
If I either change my internal user's GroupWise userid, or if I delete
or rename the external user's userid, then my internal user can login
into WebAccess without a problem. So this does appear to be due to
non-unique username's. The WebAccess is seeing the internal and
external user names, and not allowing my internal user to login.
Is there a work around for this since the users are in separate domains
and PO's, or do I need to just rename my internal user's account? I
have no control over the external user's e-mail address, so I can't
rename their userid.
Is there a way to keep the "default WebAcess" gateway from looking at
external domain's for user account authentication? I have tried setting
up a class of service in the WebAccess gateway to deny access to the
external domain, and that hasn't worked either.
Thanks,
-Greg

DHCP - Cannot add text option for VOIP phones in OES Linux
While working through this, I solved the issue, but decided to post this anyway as it may help others to find these sorts of errors.
I'm working on migrating from NetWare 6.5sp8 to OES11sp2. Client has Shoretel VOIP phones. Existing NetWare-based DHCP has no problem. Option 156 has been configured to give out the required text information that Shoretel phones require.
Problem is that I could not get the OES11 DHCP to run with that option. Nor could I migrate the existing option over - the Migration Tool (in OES11) says it successfully migrates DHCP, but I cannot start the dhcpd daemon. Error is that it failed, and in the rc.dhcpd.log file I see an error:
LDAP Line 26: unknown option dhcp.Shoretel_Boot.
LDAP Line 26: unexpected end of file
LDAP: cannot parse dhcpService entry 'cn=newdhcpservice,o=LIBRARY'
Configuration file errors encountered -- exiting
If I look in the file (created when LDAP reads DHCP config from eDirectory apparently) dhcp-ldap-startup.log I can see the problem entry at line 26:
option Shoretel_Boot "FTPSERVERS=172.30.43.8,COUNTRY=1,LANGUAGE=1,L AYER default-lease-time 259200 ;
This option does NOT show up in the newdhcpservice option when I look at it in ConsoleOne, or DSBROWSE, or DNS/DHCP Management Console.
This option DOES show up in the DNS/DHCPManagement Console if I look at the DHCP (NetWare) tab and look at Other DHCP Options for some of the configured subnets, but it actually has different text from the above, specifically:
FTPSERVERS=172.30.43.8,COUNTRY=1,LANGUAGE=1,LAYER2 TAGGING=1,VLANID=9
Note that it does not have a " character anywhere in the entry. This option is configured as a Global DHCP text option.
Novell TID 7009464 mentions the issue, though not for Option 156. In that TID there is this:
"Situation #2
Migrate a working DHCP server with DHCP options that are of type "Text" to an OES server.
Load the DHCP server service... it fails to load and gives similar errors to the ones listed above."
Under resolution the TID says to delete and recreate the dhcp service object without the text option and it will load. That doesn't work for me as I still get an LDAP error pointing to the Shoretel_Boot unknown option. (I dare not try deleting it from the NetWare DHCP config and risk breaking the client's phone system).
One of the options in the TID to fix this is to re-enter the data using the DNS/DHCP Management Console - but that didn't work.
Here is the answer:
First, the log files are misleading. The error message points to not being able to read the newdhcpservice object entry - but the problem was elsewhere. In fact the problem showed up in the logs even when there were no option 156 entries at all in any object inside the newdhcpservice or the newdhcpservice object itself. The problem existed in the NetWare configuration of the object for one of the dhcp subnets.
Specifically, there was an illegal character in the text entry for option 156 - the # character was in there, like this:
FTPSERVERS=172.30.43.8,COUNTRY=1,LANGUAGE=1,LAYER# 2TAGGING=1,VLANID=9
If you look at the error log entry for syntax error you can see that the option 156 text stopped at the # symbol, and then default-lease-time was appended to the end.
Removing the # symbol got things working.

Problems with NSS partition mirroring and pool errors.
OS: NetWare 6.5SP8 latest patches applied
I have an NSS pool that is made up of two 2TB LUNS on my SAN array.
I've been trying to move the pool from the LUNs on my SAN array to a pair of 2TB VMWare disks by using the partition mirror method.
All of the LUNS reside on the same array, but the two original LUNs are attached to an HBA in passthrough mode, so the VMWare infrastructure does not see those LUNS.
One partition mirrored without issue. The second one shows as synchronized yet remained at 99%.
A forum search indicated that a pool rebuild was in order.
I ran a pool verify and rebuild and tried mirroring the "problem child" partition again with the same result.
Before running the rebuild a second time, I removed both mirrored pairs.
I ran a pool verify and rebuild and tried mirroring the "problem child" partition again with the same result.
Last night, I repeated that same process and finally got 100% synchronization.
In the second and third rebuild processes, I got an error message stating that data would be lost if I continued the rebuild. Since I have backup, I continued the rebuild.
About 6 hours after that synchronization finished, I started receiving block error messages for the pool:
NSS-3.00-5002: Pool xxxx/DATA is being deactivated.
An error (20012(nameTree.c[45])) at block 536784421(file block -536784421)(ZID 6) has compromised volume integrity.
The pool deactivated itself.
I reset the server and when it mounted that volume, I continued to receive the errors.
I deactivated the pool, put it in maintenance mode and started another pool rebuild, this time with the /purge option.
I did not remove the mirrored pair before the rebuild started, so I have the one partition that gave me no problems un-mirrored and the partition that did give me problems is mirrored.
I don't know if that will have any affect on the rebuild process or not.
My questions are:
1) Will the fact that the pool is only half-mirrored be an issue for the rebuild?
2) Is there any other option in the rebuild process that I should have added?
3) Is the fact that I'm mirroring to a VMFS disk an issue? I could create a new pool/volume on those VMWare disks and use the server consolidation utility to copy the data between volumes, but my desire to avoid that was the reason to use the mirror process in the first place. The difference between a sledge hammer and a Q-Tip is that you do a lot less damage with a Q-Tip.
Everything has been messed with to the point where it would be impossible for any other advice than make a new disk, make a new pool, make a new volume, and do your restore. Then, when all the data is restored without error, move the OLD DATA: volume out of the way and put in the NEW DATA: volume.

1. God only knows. It should not.
2. No. I think its an issue of doing too much, to quickly. It is unlikely a pool rebuild would "fix" a mirroring problem. I would not have gone ahead with a pool rebuild with mirroring broken.
3. A disk is a disk. Perhaps there is some underlying issue with the VMDK. How is it provisioned? Is it out of space? Buggy edge cases of having an extactly 2TB VMDK? Who knows.
The mirroring happens at a layer below the pool level. So I have a hard time understanding a how a rebuild would help mirroring unless the pool is really bent to begin with.
Again, the state of the current DATA: volume would be in question after all that fiddling, even if you can get it to work would you really trust it? I would not. I would recreate DATA: from backup on whatever new partition you want and chalk it up to experience. You can minimize the pain of that by restoring to a differently named volume and then renaming the volumes after you confirm proper operation.

GroupWise recovery from cached mailbox?
GroupWise recovery challenge
- GroupWise 8.02 (NetWare 6.5sp8)
- Separate NSS Mail Pool with one Volume for Groupwise (single POA/MTA)
- Mailarchives are on seperate DATA volume
- Backup : dont ask
Situation: As a result of a hardware failure NSS MAIL pool and volume was lost
We had to edit the NSS startup to avoid it trying to load, after that the server runs again, without GW.
It was decided to move from GW8 NetWare to GW2012 on OES 11 in the proces (new tree)
Created a brand new GW2012 sp2 systeem
Modified all the FID's from the users in this system to the values of the old system
copied the old gwarchives to the new server
We were able to open these archives from the users mailbox (to discover that it was a year old, as it was archived per year.)
Now: Under a certain USER thre were about more than 100 shared subfolders with specific customer info. It seems to be lost.
This user now presents empty non shared folders from its archive.
Now the question. On one laptop all this shared folders are still present with al its contents in a locally cached mailbox. Not as the folder owner but a a user. So everything is still there.
Is the a way to get this info back into the new GW system ?Hi.

Yeah, sort of. If you're careful.
While in the caching mailbox, move all the items that were shared with
the user into other, personal folders of the user. Now archive all that,
connect to the live system, and unarchive again. Then share the stuff again.
IIRC that should work. Make a backup of the whole caching mailbox with
the data before you start.

cluster and NW servers. Also we disable file close event of audit agents
on nodes of the NW cluster.
We noticed some messages, which were appearing on Logger Screen, when
backup job worked with huge amount network traffic. Messages like these:

In other words NW Audit agent lost connection to Audit server.
There were several anends on NW server that was not a node of cluster
when audit agent was trying to reconnect to Audit server.
