Ttls/pap WiFi Authentication

My network uses ttls/pap authentication. Full details can be found here:
http://www.oit.umd.edu/nts/noc/wireless/generic_config_chart.html
When I go to connect to the network on my Blackberry 8120 the phone detects that WPA2-Enterprise is in use.The default security type is PEAP - and other options inclide LEAP,EAP-TLS,EAP-FAST,EAP-TTLS,EAP-SIM. Selecting EAP-TTLS I only have MS-CHAP v2 and EAP-MS-CHAP v2 as my inner link security options. Unfortunately my network requres PAP as the inner link security option. Is there any way to use my blackberry with a network having this configuration?

Hi, I'm also having the same problem needing EAP-TTLS /PAP to connect to my network. I found this page:
WiFi
- there is 8021.X/EAP–TTLS support but sady I culdn't find anything about PAP
I think this problem might be solved without having to add or change any hardware to the device -> but I have no idea if anyone is doing anything to patch this problem with a software update.

I have moved and am using a new WIFI service. Since I moved, my Wi-Fi works on my Toshipa Laptop, but I am having trouble getting the WIFI to work from my ipad2 to my D110 airprint printer. The printer recognizes my WIFI address but doesnt seem to fully communicate to the network. I log on to my WIFI with a username and a password. My Diagnostic survey says that Authentication type is "Open System" with no encryptation. The printer setup does not ask for authentication during setup. Is there an authentication problem ? All diagnostics indicate that the wireless network is being recognized. Product name is Photosmart D110A.

  • WiFI authentication and Eduroam (EAP-TTLS / PAP)

    Hi,
eduroam (EDUcation ROAMing) is the roaming infrastructure used by the international research and education community (universities).
At least in Australia and AFAIK also in Europe.
Most sites use EAP-TTLS / PAP authentication (and it appears there are good technical reasons for it).
The current Symbian OS does not support it out of the box.
(or at least I couldn't find it on my E51)
Is there any solution (application, etc) able to supply this functionality ?
    Cheers.

e61drc: thanks, indeed, you are correct.
bife71: the e51 have mschapv2 (guess what ms stands for which require an active directory backend while pap may use practically anything (e.g. an ldap) ... this being a good technical reason why large organizations may prefer pap.
Well, from a company claiming "Connecting People" I am rather disapointed.
(further research turned out that this feature have been widely requested for at least 1.5 years)
    Cheers.

  • Wi-fi eap-ttls - PAP inner security?

i've just got a blackberry 8900 and i can't connect to faculty wireless network due to a "pap - inner link security" demand.
anyone knows any program that can solve that? i've googled a bit and haven't found anything. (few opened topics that all end without a solution).
too bad blackberry doesn't support this since lots of universities (www.eduroam.org) and public organizations use this kinda protection, at least in my country. i believe this is a software, not hardware issue, any ideas on this "feature" ? any words from the developers on this issue?
    greetz, robert

TTLS-PAP is also used commonly by many organizations with non-Microsoft directory systems. And is commonly used by American universities as well. All three of the schools I attended, Harvard, Berkeley and UPenn, all used TTLS-PAP to secure their wireless networks.... Wild guess, those schools could be filled with idiots, but I'd venture a guess that they have people smart enough to deploy a wifi network properly.

It's a question of being secure, and of being tolerant towards servers that are not secured.
This isn't accurate. Yes, PAP is not a secure password exchange method. But it is being sent through a TLS tunnel which is very secure. That is like saying sending a password in a web form through a SSL tunnel isn't secure. Well, actually, it is.
Also, it isn't for RIM to decide what is / isn't secure on user's wireless networks. Your analogy of SSLv2 just doesn't jive. If security was even an issue (it isn't) and PAP isn't supported because the RIM's great banevolence to their users, why is WEP still support? Or why are open networks supported?
All arguments aside TTLS-PAP is a very commonly used 802.1x authentication method supported by Windows Mobile, iPhone, Web OS, Mac OS X and Windows... RIM needs to get it together on this one.

  • Support for EAP-TTLS-PAP (as used by Eduroam) in N...

When it will be available a solution to the lack of support for EAP-TTLS-PAP (as used by Eduroam) in Nokia N86 8MP throught a new firmware?
To many years waiting... Must we go to another solution?
    Thx.

I have succeed to import the local certificate using the instructions in
    http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/symbian_cert_import.html
    then the description in

  • N95 EAP-TTLS + PAP

With the plethora of encryption options available on the N95 I was highly surprised to notice that PAP was not an option. My University network (UPenn) requires EAP TTLS PAP. Does anybody know if this will be incorporated in the future via firmware or other (possibly third party) software?
    Thanks!

I've just made Eduroam work on my N95 in Oxford University thus (I'm on firmware 11.0.026 date 17-04-07):
    1. Make sure the root certificate for the authority that signed your radius servers' certificate is in the root store of your phone. Oxford uses Globalsign which is not there by standard.
    2. Choose WPA/WPA2 for the WLAN Security Mode
    3. Choose EAP as the WPA/WPA2 type
    4. Choose WPA2 only mode and make sure it is off
    5. In the EAP plug-in settings enable only EAP-TTLS and choose that. Set the Authority Certificate to match the one that signed your radius server's certificate.
    6. Set your username and realm both to be user-defined and put them in the right boxes (my realm is ox.ac.uk).
    7. Use the right of the centre button to move on the EAPs tab and enable "EAP-MSCHAPv2" ONLY. DO NOT ENABLE "MSCHAPv2".
    8. In the settings for EAP-MSCHAPv2 provide your username (and password if you wish, or set it to prompt for it).
As we say in England, Robert is then your parent's brother.
You should now be able to use that network connection for web browsing, email, SIP and anything else you might choose.

Yeah sure....there is a diference between cannot and will not be. I am pretty sure that it is possible to add pap since there are no hardware limitations for adding it.
BTW why does it say plugin if you can't add a plugin?

  • WiFi ( 802.1x EAP TTLS PAP ): Unable to connect since 2.3.3 update

I previously posted this on the Motorola Owner's Forum and am still waiting for a fix or at least an official confirmation of the problem.
Ever since the 2.3.3 update, I have been unable to connect to the wireless network at work.  The connection worked fine prior to the update.  The connection at home with WPA still works fine.
The network status cycles through the following sequence:
    Scanning...
    Connecting to <network>...
    Obtaining IP address from <network>...
    Disconnected
The corporate configuration is as follows:
    Security: 802.1x
    EAPEAP method: TTLS
    Phase 2 authentication: PAP
    CA certificate: (unspecified)
    User certificate: (unspecified)
    Use proxy server: (unchecked)
When I go into Manage Networks and select Modify network for the configuration, I find that Phase 2 authentication always shows None.  If I change it to PAP and then click Save, the setting does not stick: the next time I check the configuration, it is None.
I've done a factory reset.  I've configured the network settings with WiFi Advanced Configuration Editor.  I've configured the network settings with WiFiConfig Editor Pro.  All to no avail.
Please help.  I need to be able to connect to the corporate network.  If there is a known issue, it would be nice if someone would at least confirm it. Thank you.

My original Droid actually worked with the Andriod 2.0 release, but 2.1 broke it and it hasn't worked since.  I believe the Android codebase DID fix this, however Verizon has not made it a priority to include the fix in their releases.  I now have a Droid 4 running 2.3.6 and it is still broken.  Many of my coworkers have this same issue, but ONLY THE ONES ON VERIZON!  Other carriers have apparently figured out how to port this fix into their releases, regardless of which Android phone.
Come on Verizon, fix this so we can stop wasting your 4G bandwidth!!!

  • Connecting to enterprise TTLS+PAP wireless

Ok, here's the problem. I can't connect to our enterprise wireless. I'm one of the network admins, and our director has purchased an iPad, and want to be able to connect it to our internal wireless network. It's a RADIUS server that uses WPA2 Enterprise with TTLS and PAP. I can connect with a laptop, and with my Droid, but not the iPad.
We have to put legis\(username) so that RADIUS knows where to put the user. here's what it looks like in our logs when I make a SUCCESSFUL connection
    09/29/2010 12:51:14 Raw Packet :

But here's what it looks like in the log when I try an dconnect with the iPad

    09/29/2010 16:02:02 030:|..v{v |
As you can see, it does NOT strip off the "legis\" part (like it should) AND it adds a capitol "P" to the end of my username!!! WTH!?!
The final error that I get in the log is this
09/29/2010 16:02:02 Too many or too few authentication attributes in request; rejecting.
I'm REALLY hoping that I can get some help from someone...'cause our director's really wanting to use this internally.

If you can't get an iPad an iPod with wireless and IOS 5 or above has pretty much the same wifi network mechanics. Again, the iPhones aren't much different in the wi fi area either. Refer to http://support.apple.com/specs/ for the specific technical specs of the device you are using to test. The biggest difference is that the iphone and ipod do not support the "a" spectrum and are b g n only, whereas the iPad is a/b/g/n.  Perhaps the problem has something to do with 802.11a.  Make sure your wifi gear has all the latest firmware.  You could also turn off the the "a"  radio beacon, I don't use it anymore as it created too many problems and g and n are really all you need anymore.

  • Connecting EAP-TTLS-PAP network on 5800

    Thks,
    Cristian

Curious, I have not observed many of the issues you indicate.
    0. Haven't had issues, but haven't really paid attention either.
    1. This works very nicely for me. Switches to known WiFi when available and automatically uses 3G when not.
    2. Have not observed.
    3. Lots of apps are missing or don't work on S^3 - terrible shame.
    4. It's a **bleep** app so don't worry about it. Half-baked junk, IMO.
    5. Yep, it's bad.
    6. No problem for me here. Entered Ovi credentials when phone first started up and haven't had to do it anywhere else or ever again.
    7. Try Windows Media Player for sync. As for other issues, have not observed any of them.
    Have not tried the rest.
