  • Simulation to MP4: Distorted Slides or Audio

    Hello,
I mainly use software simulation. However, when I publish the video for YouTube, the MP4 includes some visually distorted slides (e.g. with parts of two slides on each other or with red blocks), as well as missing mouse clicks, and "poff" sounds and/or spoilt parts at the beginning of auido on a slide. Sometimes, when I republish the problem disappears from one section and appears in another section.
I tried both Windows 7 (even a newly installed OS) and Mac OS 10.6.8.
Sometimes, the problem was just in the player; but I have tried several players and the problem appears on all of them.
For the audio, I use the TTS NeoSpeech Adobe plugin.
I use the latest Adobe Captivate version 6.0.1.240
I have files showing the problems with their corresponding project files, but I cannot publish them publicly. If someone from the Adobe Support can contact me so that I send them the files, I will highly appreciate that.
    Kind regards,
    Mina

    Dear All,
I have received this suggestion from the support, and it solved my main problem of distorted images: go to Edit > Preferences > SWF Size and Quality > move the slider down to "Custom" and deactivate the two options of compression.
    According to the manual:
Advanced Project Compression Enables Adobe Captivate to take into account only the difference between two slides instead of publishing both the slides. The compression reduces the size of the published project. Choosing this option can increase the time taken to preview or publish the project. Compressed projects sometimes do not play as intended in Flash Player.
Please read the last sentence. If this option is serious like that, I am not sure why it is activated by default. I think it should be deactivated by default.
Derek, could you please let us know if this helps you. Many thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Mina

  • Slide notes disappear at end of slide

    Hi community,
thanks in advance for having a look at the following question:
I am using Captivate 5 on Mac. Mostly with text to speech. TTS works just fine. Problem is the slide note. With skin controls I can toggle between show and no show of slide note. But at the end of the slide the notes disappear. I need them to stay, so the learners can read the text as long as they wish. I tried to stop the slide with a button, but the note still goes. Alternatively I created individual buttons on a slide to show and another to hide a text caption. Works fine, but the slide advances, without the possibility to stop. Next alternative is to use advanced actions. That works fine to show and hide text, but is a lot of work for all the slides. Is there a better way? Ideally I would like to use the skin, toggle the show-no show button, and the text remains at end of slide.
Side note: The TTS neospeech and loquendo are great. I would hope, that Adobe offers more speech licenses soon.

Is it possible that you may be trying to add too much CC text to the screen at one time?
I set up my CC text to only show a maximum of one line at a time, and I have the CC font set to Arial 20 so that it is quite large and easy to read.  I time all of the lines so that they sync up with the audio track.  This way, if you do have to pause the screen for any reason, the most you lose is just one short line of text.
If you're using the default CC text settings in Captivate I think you'll find the text too small for easy reading by the people that need it most.

  • Use TTS in Adobe Captivate 6 other than NeoSpeech

    Hello,
I would like to test out some other TTS voices other than Neospeech - namely Acapela.  Does anyone have experience incorporating the TTS with Captivate.  I believe I download a SDK from the TTS provider and need to somehow incorporate this with Adobe Captivate.  Sorry if I sound I don't know what I am talking about -- this is all new terrirtory for me.
    Thank you !

    Hi Vikram,
    Thanks for the tip!

  • Use NeoSpeech or MS SAPI 4/5 speech packs with Captivate

We were a astonished that Captivate only supports english text-to-speech although it is sold in other language versions. We require French TTS support for our project. Is it possible to use an installed language package, either from NeoSpeech (which is evidently used by Captivate) or from Microsoft?
I had a look at the NeoSpeech products and could not find French anyway. But considering the language versions of Captivate I assume that there is at least a way to provide TTS support at additional costs?

Please, if you want to help us all, international users who need to have CP-movies in other languages than English, post a feature request to the Adobe team. I have been asking a lot of times to pay more attention to those users, to make localization easier. But it helps really if more users, in the same situation, add their support for those requests. The Adobe team is aware of the problem, but if we are more to put pressure on them, the chance of succeeding will be greater. The link to the feature/bug requests is in the main page of this forum.

  • Adobe Captivate 7 TTS French Canadian MAN's VOICE

    Hello ALL,
I'm desperated... I've been looking over forums and stuff, on the web, and tested a few things, for more than 2 days now…
    I NEED HELP !
I NEED a TTS French Canadian MAN’s VOICE… working with Captivate 7 [Please notice that the Premium and Chloe voices, from the NeoSpeech pack for Captivate 7, are just very, very, very, fine… but they are women…]
I reapeat myself, but I really NEED A FRENCH MAN’S VOICE !!!! (and if the voice is not Canadian : any kind of French speaking man voices, I insist, will do.
It doesn't bother's me anymore… can be France, Swedish, Morocco, …)
I bought Capitivate 7 to save time and to use the Text-to-Speech functionalities trought the slide's annotations.
My concept is not working at all !!!!!! [construction field teaching]
I work on a Mac with Mountain Lion [OS X 10.8.3] and I’ve already installed before installing Captivate 7, in my operating system :
    • Canadian French Voices, which are : Félix and Julie,
    And
    • France Voices wich are : Audrey, Sebastian, Thomas and Virginie.
And disable Zarvox and all those ****… wich is remaining in Captivate 7 ????
Of course, I tried to put <whatever tags> in, but this is not working anymore in Captivate 7…
The major problem, is that my operating system voices doesn't appear in Captivate 7. Why ?
How can I make them appear ? Or use them ?
Is there's any Adobe stuff, or a third-party, free or not, that I can use for my client’s needs ?
I’ve noticed that Loquendo doesn’t exist anymore … they used to have a lot of differents languages to use with Captivate [they used to have a FRENCH MAN spoken]…
    PLEASE HELP ME !!!!
    Mel

    Thanks,
NeoSpeech seem to work on PC, not on a Mac.
Their Voice Cloud service only offers English voices.
In all the voices NeoSpeech offers, the only  French voice, is Chloe.
Chloe is already installed with the language package for Captivate, and work´s well.
Still can’t find a French MAN spoking voice to integrate directly into Captivate…
Althought I found this (where there is two french man’s voices) : http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
But, needs to be generated on the web, then needs to be dowlaoded, then need to be imported into the project, and then must be synchronised into the timeline...
Thanks again and have a nice day
    Mel

  • Captivate 5 Crashes (Unhandled win32 Exception) when Generating Loquendo TTS

I consistently get “An unhandled win32 exception occurred in AdobdCaptivate.exe” when Generating a TTS with Loquendo and my VS2010 JIT kick in to “help”.  No dump, nothing in the log.
I have a 1 slide test project trying the quality to the TTS engines.  The MS and NeoSpeech allow me to generate an audio file, but using the Loquendo voice (any of them), I get a “Test-to-speech Progress” dialog, followed by the exception and Captivate closes.  I installed both the NeoSpeech and Loquendo from the Adobe site, along with the Captivate trial.
Any ideas where to start debugging this?

    Resolved!
This problem has been resolved and I want to thank for posters for pointing me in several directions to look.  As some of you suspect, the problem had nothing to do with Captivate 5 or Loquendo, except some bad behavior by not handling an Exception.
The root cause was several .Net Framework 4.0 BETA DLLs hanging around.  This particular machine had several incarnations of .Net Framework installed, uninstalled and reinstalled.  Digging deep into the registry, I find some beta code still getting loaded into GAC.  My solution was to trash this users’ PC and reinstall a fresh copy of the OS (it’s a sandbox machine anyway).
After installing a clean copy of the OS, all the maintenance and upgrades, including .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, Captivate 5 (and friends) worked properly.
    Again, thanks for the support.
    Regards,
    Jon

  • Can I use Nuance Vocalizer as the TTS engine for Adobe Captivate?

I have licenses for Nuace Vocalizer and would like to use it as the TTS engine with Adobe Captivate. Is it possible and does anyone know how to configure it?

    Hello,
You could integrate any 3rd party voices with captivate 7 as long as the voices are SAPI-compliant. But sound quality overall would be better if you create and import audio files directly from Text to speech engines like Neospeech's.
I would recomend you to create it using Nuance Vocalizer and then insert that audio in Captivate as .wav or .mp3 .
    Thanks

  • How do I change the phonetics in the TTS in Captivate 7?

    Hello,
I have successfully used vtml tags to add some pauses and slow down the TTS produced by Captivate.  I haven't been able to change the phonetics, however.. .Any tips on how to do this?  is there a phoneme alphabet that works better than another in Captivate?  I have tried "alphabet="ipa" and alphabet="x-CMU" and neither of them had any effect.
    Thanks for any help?

You can use the Captivate dictionary for this purpose.
    Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Captivate Voices 7\VT\<Voice Artist>\M16\bin, and launch UserDicEng_<Voice Artist>.exe.
In the dictionary, click File Open and select userdict_eng from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Captivate Voices 7\VT\<Voice Artist>\M16\data-common\userdict folder.
Click Add Word and select the Pronunciation Symbol radio button below the Target field. You will now see the pronunciation symbols which you can use.
Note: Due to a bug in NeoSpeech 64bit installer files, you must install the 32-bit NeoSpeech voices even if you are on a 64-bit system.

  • NeoSpeech voices in Captivate - need help installing

I have recently purchased Captivate 7. I have downloaded each of the items on the downloads page and 'extracted' them as indicated by the prompts. I have tried to install the NeoSpeech voices again and again, without success. These are all the folders and files I now have:
    Adobe Captivate 7
    Adobe eLearning Assets
    Cp7_win_assets_installer
    Cp7_win64_voices_installer
    NeoSpeech Voices (64 Bit)
Captivate_7_x64_Neo_Content_LS21.7z (and 'application' by the same file name)
Please tell me what I need to do to to be able to use the NeoSpeech voices. At the moment, only a Microsoft voice is available in the TTS function.

    Hi doralsuncoast
Captivate 7 works the same way. However, if you are on 64-bit system and use NeoSpeech user dictionary, you should be aware of one bug.
When you run UserDicEng_<VoiceArtist>, it crashes with an error message. The workaround for that can be found in:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5651747#5651747
To the best of my knowledge, Captivate 7 doesn't support any other voices other than NeoSpeech.

  • Specific TTS help - PAUL

I am sure that I cannot be the only one who is both amused and annoyed by the TTS function.
I am working on a course within Captivate 7 and am using the NeoSpeech voice of Paul (american male).
I CANNOT get Paul to say something like, "Contact the Spill Team for assistance."
He pronounces it like "speeeel-TEAM" or Spiel-team!"
It's ridiculous. I've tried using Voice-Text-Markup-Language to add a pause:
    the spill <vtml_pause time="90"/> team,
    spill<vtml_break level="2"/>team.
But that still doesn't really sound like how a normal person would say "spill team." Something off with his intonation.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or want to fiddle around with it and see if they can make Paul speak less stereotypically robotic?

on frame 250, (in the action panel)
    gotoAndPlay(85);
That will play 85-250 over and over again.

  • Hindi TTS in Captivate

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Captivate 5.5.
There is a requirement to have background voice in Hindi, Bangla, Vietnamese, Arabic, French in order to cater to different clients.
Checking in Loquendo and Neospeech, I am able to find TTS only for Arabic and French (Canadian).
I want TTS for other languages (Hindi, Bangla, Vietnamese). I could not locate any useful freewares in googling. Please suggest how to get a good TTS for these languages.
    with thanks and regards,
    Krishna

Hi, I am aware of VTML tags, and I use them myself.  When I have 80 slides in my project with TTS and I want the entire project to have the same speed TTS, which is slower than the default speed, do I still have the put VTML tags on every slide?  In general, the TTS is too fast for non-native speakers.  I would like to globally change the speed, or at the very least on a project level.

  • Captivate 5 NeoSpeech - GUI editor for VTML behind text?

Is there a GUI editor to embed VTML “behind” text?  It seems NeoSpeech is the TTS engine of choice for English (US anyway).
Testing with Captivate 5, the generated audio is *almost* good enough for use as a narrator.  We have training “slides” where we voice over to enhance the experience.  We have been recording audio but keeping the same person working on this project is difficult.  I’d like to have a quality, reproducible source like TTS and the current implementation of NeoSpeech is about 95%. So, I’m thinking of planting VTML in the text but this makes the text awkward and the VTML is not for a casual user.
Is there a way to develop a plug-in that would allow an app to get to the text, manage the VTML behind the scenes something like OOXML is to text editors?

I tested the "Loquendo" voices as Ashwin suggested. Mainly the British English one, Simon, as that can be somewhat compared to the US English. I think I like Paul from Neospeech better, but such a statement does not say much. Here are some more details:
I like the British sound of Simon, I really do. But as far as the natural flow of the sentence - it is not as fluent as Paul from Neospeech. With Simon, I hear that the sentence is combined from independent units - words; sometimes there is a little break in between them (more noticeable than we would naturally do). Paul's renderings sound more like a solid sentence. Also, with Simon, I hear some unnatural intonation shifts in a middle of a word. Not to say that Paul does not have them - but not as often (and the latest Paul from Neospeech's website has very little of them).
On the other side, I do not mean to say that I like everything from Neospeech. I do not like Kate - her intonation is sometimes very unnatural (to my ears). And while some say that the newest voice from Neospeech - Julie - is even better, I like it little less than Paul. True, Julie has a very nice delivery and some words she pronounces very clearly, but other parts she says indistinctly, causing me to wonder if she has an accent, or just lisps. Generally, I prefer male voice over the female one when it comes to computer voices, as the female voices - being in  higher frequencies, get more of the s sound. (Perhaps a de-esser could be built-in to the future version of Captivate to improve the voices :-).
If I were to compare the English speaking voices, my list of preferences would be: 1. Paul, 2. Julie (this one is not in Captivate), 3. Simon + Kate. But remember, my ears are different than yours, so this all is just about what I like...  Martin P.

  • Editing TTS audio in Cp7 gives error message

I am using Cp7 and am working through updating files created in Cp6.  I need to make edits to the narration that was done with Slide Notes and TTS (English), however, every time I click "Generate Audio" I get an error message stating simply "Error occurred while generating Text to Speech audio for Slide 12."
I have tried deleting all of the text and then re-inserting it, I have tried deleting the audio from the Timeline, and then recreating as new, but nothing has worked. Also important to note:  I am able to add TTS audio to a Blank Project with no problem, so I think this error is tied to the fact these files were created in Cp6.
Please help as I am on a deadline!  Thanks!

@RodWard - Thank you for the excellent tips and the link - I tried both of your suggestions.  While neither worked initially, when I opened Captivate after having deleted the Preferences folder, I received the message that I need to install NeoSpeech Voices again. I had noticed the day before that NeoSpeech was installed in a different Program Files folder from Captivate itself, so this time I installed together with the Captivate application files.  And thankfully, it worked!  I am glad I know about these troubleshooting options.  I am good to go now and I will look into the information you provide on setting up Captivate right.
Thank you so much for your help!

  • How can I set Paul to be the default TTS voice?

Is there a way to set a TTS voice as the default so that it is always selected by default as the voice to use? I have all the voices installed and it currently defaults to Bridget - I guess because that is the first voice in the list. I normally use Paul but sometimes others so I want access to all the voices but would like the default to be Paul. I know that once I set Paul for the first slides, it defaults for that project for the rest of the slides, but I have to do this for every project and if I forget to set Paul then I have to go back and redo the slides. It would be nice if I could set the default to the voice I use the most often. I'm using Captivate 7.

    j,
In the Finder, single-click on any text file, then type command-I (Get Info). You'll see an Open With... menu item. Select Pages from the list (if it's not in the list, navigate to it). Finally, click the Change All button. Use the same process for .doc files. Now, if you double-click on any of these files, it should open in Pages.
