"tune up" Safari?

Hi,
I am looking for a way to make browsing faster, or tune browsing for higher speeds. As with IE on Windows, is there a way to "tune up" Safari?

If Safari is getting very slow:
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:

If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page:http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
You could also try these codes as well: 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x

If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

When trying to sign into both Safari and I Tunes I get a message that says unable to connect to itunes...what do I do to fix this

My son just got a new I Pod Touch for X-mas and it has been working just fine untill the other day when we started getting the message "cannot connect to itunes"...This happens when i try to go into both I Tunes and Safari. I dont know how to fix this especially if it might erase all the music and games he has put on it. If someone out there can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Lost I-tunes

On Monday Morning 10/2/06 New update came out
for I-tunes 7.01 Downloaded it. And my Mac froze
after getting it back up and running I can't get my I-tunes
and Safari to work. Tried installing I-tunes from apple site
and from Disc still got nothing, I still have my music files
and Video's but they won't play.

I just read itunes policy and from what I gather, you are supposed to back up your music because they are not responsible. If you don't have another drive to back them up you can backup the source files which are pretty small onto a CD which you can't play in a player but can recover the music files.

How to fix when message "loading" runs without stop when I want to get I-Tunes or AppStore?

For couple of days, when I want to get I-Tunes or Safari or AppStore on my iPod touch, message saying "loading" non stop. How to get these applications.

my question is i have a two year old mac pro and i just purchased a 5 g nano and tried to load it but the computer said i must download i tunes 9.0 first so i did and the it says i must download safari 4.0 or higher well with the two thats like 100 mb so with itunes and safari allready on my computer there is no room for two i tunes and safaris can i dump the old apps and install the new with the added space gain or is there no gain or would it be better just to go back to the old versions and return the i pod to the store i cant access i tunes store now without safari 4.0 and i cant install safari 4.0 without adding storage or deleting old apps how do i delete the original safari and why doesnt it do it automatically when i upgrade to the higher safari why have two versions on one computer

If you have a USB2.0 Flash Drive (thumb drive, etc) you could save the
downloaded newer versions of your needed updates to there; and then
start the computer in SafeBoot, remove the older versions to Trash and
empty it, then install the newer ones from the Flash drive; run Disk Utility
and repair disk permissions, quit Disk Utility and restart normally.
However, if the hard disk drive is anywhere near as full as you indicate,
the real deal would be to get an external storage drive, or a bootable
external hard disk drive (one you could clone to, & boot OS X from)
and start thinning out your computer's overly full boot disk drive.
You can move iPhoto libraries and iTunes libraries to an external hard
disk drive, and access them when there is a connection to that drive.
To archive items such as image files or large capacity items outside
of the computer's boot hard disk drive (or burn them to DVD & erase
the original from the computer) would free up valuable needed space.
A complete backup clone of the computer's contents to a bootable
externally enclosed hard disk drive, is recommended before data is lost.
Safari 4.0.4 & iTunes 9.0.3 are not really the big concerns with a full HDD.

Hallo, guten Tag , der safari Browser bricht immer wieder die Internet Verbindung ab, und es erscheint der Server ist nicht erreichbar.
Wenn ich jedoch mit einem andern Browser in Netz gehe, habe ich keine Probleme .

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Try clearing your browser cache: Settings App > Safari > Clear History adn then Clear Cookies and Data

I get the error message when I boot up:

If you're using a 64-bit version of Windows, then copy "SQLite3.dll" from
1) C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
to
2) C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
It worked on my machine. Curiously, I have this problem on Windows 7 64-bit machine but not Vista 64-bit machine.
For 32-bit version of Windows look for it in Program Files instead. Hope this works for you.

HELP mac pro frozen and suddenly extreamly slow .....

hello
i have had my mac book about 3 months and it out of the blue has started to act very oddly. It has been runing very slowely and whenever i click anything it frezzes up for about 5 mins of so, every time i click say i tunes or safari.
I havent downloaded anything out of the ordinary.
please help with solutions and give advice as to how to fix it.

There could be any number of possibilities for this, both software and hardware. You might start off by running the extended version Apple Hardware test and see if you get any error codes.
You could also check and see that all of your RAM is recognized. If not, you may need to reseat your RAM sticks.
It's possible that your hard drive has begun to fail. Open Disk Utility and check that SMART is verified and also verify the drive to see if it needs any repair.
You are under warranty, and if you have access to an Apple Store, make an appointment at the genius bar to have your Mac looked at. That would likely be the quickest way to get to the root of the problem, and if it is hardware related, to make arrangements for a repair.
If you don't already have a good backup of your data, you should make one.

ho scaricato l'ultima versione di i tunes e safari 5. Ma dopo il riavvio del pc la versione aggiornata nn siè installata e sulla prima pagina di itunes ho ancora la 5.0.1.

I had problems getting my Apple TV to authenticate after restore factory defaults. Looked on these support forums and saw others having similar issues. I finally called Appe myself and after refusing to pay the extra money for AppleCare phone support I told him my problem and the first thing he asked was whether I was connected with WiFi.
Bottom line is that in my case I had to connect with WiFi and restart the Apple TV and that would allow authentication to work which would then allow my iTunes Match to work again.
I did more tests and it appears that once it is authenticated, you can go back to wired and it works fine.
To go the General settings and get the info. It shows at the bottom if your Apple TV failed at authentication.

Please Help! Can't open Safari, I-Tunes after update download.

This happened after I ran a software update and downloaded the new I-tunes, Quicktime, and the latest security update.
I got an almost full disk message, but the downloads were completed ok. I was told to restart, but a bug hit at that point and I held down the power key to close down.
When I booted up again, all seemed normal, but
now when I click on the Safari and I-tune icons they blink, but then don't open.
Any ideas on what happened and how to link up the finder and these programs again? Is this a case for the famous Pram zap?
(Other, such as I-photo etc. are not affected. On the other hand Mac help, any html safari page, and software update are all inoperative.)

The solution was to use the original
Tiger DVD to re-install the OS. I had let the disk space on the startup disk get too low, and a download corrupted some of the OS.

TUNE UP for SAFARI what to do?

any tips on a tune up for safari? beside the plist is there anything else you can delete to get it back to it's default?
got a glich in mine and hope to get it back to its glory, it was a fine browser for me but it's gotton soft.
is there a way to download it fresh from apple?

Here's my list for a Safari tune-up:
1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
2. Trash your Icons Folder:
HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
If you're still having problems:
4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.

I-Tunes Trailers will not download in Windows 7 IE 9...(No problem in Safari)

In Windows 7 (64 bit) Downloading I-Tunes Trailers don't work. I'm talking about this site: http://trailers.apple.com/ There is no problem in the I-Tunes program itself...but there is no search option there. No problem in Safari either. Just curious why IE9 has this limitation?
