Tunes being erased

Could anyone please explain why every time I plug my mini into my pc to download some new tunes all the tunes already on the mini are erased.

You aren't deleting songs from iTunes yourself by any chance, are you? If so, that's why. The sync method is set up to "automatic" by default, meaning that the two libraries will stay in sync - what you add will get added to both; what you delete will be removed from both. If you only want music on the iPod and not in iTunes, change your sync method to Manual (under iTunes preferences, in the iPod tab).

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.

How to "protect" a square from being erased in a Java Paint application?

Hi. I have created a paint program in Java (something like MS Paint) and I have a problem.
In order to show the current colour the user is using I have drawn a square on the screen.
But when I select the eraser tool and try to erase the square, it can be erased and I dont want that.
Is there any way I can "protect" the square from being erased by the eraser tool?
The eraser tool basically draws white rectangles when the mouse is dragged.

Files being erased from iPod

When I first got my iPod, I synced it with my dad's computer and then I went to my mom's and synced it again with my computer. When I ynced it with my computer all of the files that were already on it from syncing it with my dad's computer were erased. Is there any way of syncing my iPod with two computers without the files from the other computer being erased?

You have to set it for manually managing the ipod.

Contacts being erased?

I've had my iPod touch for 4 years, never had a problem with my contacts but in last 2 weeks they have been completely erased twice. The first time I lost everything and had to start again as I allowed my ipod to resync with itunes before I realised and as a result lost ability to restore from back-up. The second time I was ready and managed to save by restoring from back-up. However it is very frustrating - is there any way to stop contacts from being erased? Please help!

Yes I went from over 800 to 111 in a keystroke....I tried to use the backup sync or whatever its called to no avail.
I fear it will overwrite my back up.
The local Verizon store said i need my old blackberry to download the backed up contacts and then go back to the verizon store to get them transfered back into my phone....
then what? wait for it to do it again....!
Oh and the contacts that didnt get erased .....I only have the phone numbers...no names or addresses

The easiest method would be to restore them from the last Time Machine backup made just prior to the update.
Or use a file recovery application to recovery them. Most have a demo mode so you can determine if it can find the files you need before purchasing it. Go to MacUpdate.com and do a search for "recover files" to get a list of potential candidates.

"iPhone 4S is being erased" - iCloud Email Received

I recieved an received an email this weekend from iCloud stating that my iPhone 4S is being erased. I did not initiate the "wipe" of my device. Is it possible that this is an issue on Apple's side? Have other experienced a similar issue?

To be safe, you should change your iCloud password in case it's been compromised. Go to https://iforgot.apple.com and change it. You'll then have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in using the new password. (When you delete the account it only deletes it from your phone, not from iCloud. It will also delete any synced data from your phone but this will be restored to the phone when you sign back in.)

WWhy are events that have passed being erased in the calendar. I like to keep a record of what I have done on any given day, and the calendar keeps erasing things like doctor appointments, etc.

'sync events'. You can go back up to 6 months or 'all events'
Just be aware that those events contribute to the 'other' that uses up your device's memory, so you'll want to balance the data you keep with the space you want to use

Simple Stroke-based wipes with a measure of Roughen Edges thrown in on top of Brush strokes created in Photoshop or Illustrator using Bristle/ Art Brushes. Basic stuff. Just typing in "stroke reveal" on a web search will hit you with gigazillions of tutorials.

My contacts are being erased

My contacts area just being erased from my phone and iCloud as well, sistematicly and one by one and I can´t stop it. They just desapear. What can I do? I saw similar questions, but any of them with answers, is just frustating.

I had the same thing happen to me about the first 10 times I synced my phone. Any contacts I created on the phone were deleted, and any updates made on the phone reverted back to what was in Outlook...it was clearly not syncing, but overriding for some reason.
However, it seems like that problem has now resolved itself. I have't done anything other than to continually re-enter the contacts, and suddenly one day everything worked fine. I have not experienced this issue in my last dozen syncs or so - so hopefully it will self-resolve for you also - but you are not alone on the issue, I also contacted the support number and they're weren't able to offer any suggestions or reasoning why at that time either.

Computer with main library crashed. How do I transfer all files from ipod onto new computer without them being erased on ipod?

The hard disk on my laptop which contained my main i-tunes library crashed. I want to make sure I have a backup of my music and apps on a different computer. How can I transfer the music and such from my ipod touch to the new computer without erasing everything on my touch when I try to sync it? Do I just have to start over from scratch? Alot of my music is copied over from my cd collection.

There are a number of third-party apps which will allow you to copy media from an iOS device into a computer's iTunes library. A popular one is Senuti; there are others which are free.

HT4848 Is it possible to partition an external hard drive that is already being used for Time Machine backups without it being erased?

I'm want to use my current external hard drive, which I use for Time Machine Backup, as a recovery disk for Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2. From what I have read, the recovery disk assistant will erase all data on the external drive unless it is partitioned. Can I partition my current backup drive without erasing it, even though it is already being used for Time Machine?

It's very simple to test. Turn off your computer. Have your time machine backup plugged in. Hold option and turn it on, keeping option held. Do you see your time machine drive? If so, select it and press enter. You'll end up in recovery. If it works, there you go. Then just click the apple and restart to get back to your regular desktop. Then you'll know for when you're ready to do the deed.

I'm not sure if time machine will think it's an entirely different computer, though, when a hard drive changed, making an actual restore not doable. Either way, you could still reinstall mt lion fresh and then just migrate after, skipping the need for SL.

JPG files are being erased by PE 5 Organizer

I have experienced a weird incident with Photoshop Element 5.0, to which I
couldn't believe until I could reproduce it: *the PE Organizer erases all
*.JPG files in the pictures' directory I am working on when closing under
certain conditions.* You will find in appendix the report of the tests I
have been running.
The procedure that leads to files being deleted is the following:
- Initial state: PE 5.0 Editor and Organizer inactive. The directory
contains 2 JPG files (IMG_0177a.JPG). The files in the directory are sorted
by file type.
1. Open PE 5.0 Organizer.
2. Select picture IMG_0022.CR2.
3. Click on "Go to full edit". The directory still contains the 2 .jpg
files.
4. Save the file after edit as IMG_0022.DNG. The directory still contains
the 2 .jpg files.
5. Click on "Open image". The directory still contains the 2 .jpg files.
6. Save the picture as IMG_0022.JPG. The directory contains now 3 .jpg
files.
7. Close the file in the Editor. The directory still contains the 3 .jpg
files.
8. Click onto the Organizer window to give it the focus. The directory
still contains the 3 .jpg files.
9. Close the Organizer. The 3 .jpg files are no longer in the directory.
The appendix shows more details (screenshots) of my tests (see tests 1 and
3).
I couldn't find any configuration in PE that can cause this behaviour. I
could also find no mention of it on your support site. Could you please
help me?
- Is that behaviour made possible through a configuration preference or is
it a known bug?
- If it is a bug, is there a fix for it?
- If not, how else can I avoid such deletions?
- If I store the .JPG files in a subdirectory of that where the raw photo
files are stored, can I be sure that the JPG files will never be erased
through that behaviour?
I have just experienced that incident only this fall because I have just
installed PE 5.0 and started processing raw photo files recently (I had PE
4 up to then).
My configuration:
- PC with Windows XP Pro SP3 and all updates installed. 1.5 GB RAM. Drive
C: is 37 GB, free space is 13 GB.
- I got PE 5.0.2 with my Canon camera I bought in January 2008. I installed
the update in August 2012. No add-on SW has been installed to PE.
- I store my photo files on a NAS disk (La Cie 1 TB, free space: 203 GB)
and use another NAS disk for backup copies (that backup disk is only
running for backups; it was never running when I experienced the incident
below).
- My photo files are stored in directories organized by date and event. Up
to now, I have been storing all types of photo files in one directory per
event (.CR2, .JPG, .DNG).

Not sure why this is happening this way but may be closing PSE processes which access and work upon files in the background might make a difference.
Please launch Organizer and click Edit >> Preferences >> Media Analysis and turn off all checkboxes.
From the task manager, kill the following exes if running-
ElementsAutoAnalyzer
Adobe Photoshop File Agent
Dynamic Link Manager
repeat your workflow and check if the issue still happens.

Data being erased

My friend has a 30GB. He recently purchased an iPhone and since upgrading to iTunes 8 his iPod has erased itself twice. Both times it has happened within 30 minutes of being disconnected from the computer. He is running Vista.
