Tungsten Colour on Clip

I have taken videos films from two cameras of my nephew's wedding. The clips from one camera Canon XM1 inside the church has come out as a tungsten colour. Can I lighten these clips within FCP.

Hi:
I have found this information in this Apple doc:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93158
Multiple Edits: This layout only appears if your screen resolution is set to 1280 x 854 or higher. This layout is useful for comparing three clips in a sequence in a row for color correction. At the top of the screen, from left to right, are the Viewer; a Tool Bench window with a Frame Viewer tab showing the previous edit point; the Canvas; and another Tool Bench window with a Frame Viewer tab showing the next edit point. The Browser and Timeline are on the bottom, with the Tool palette and audio meters to the right of the Timeline.
Probably that's the explanation !

  • Losing colour in clips

    I am having a problem when editing. I imported clips put them on the timeline but didnt finish editing. I went back in the next day and the clips i didnt finish editing showed as flickering black & white and colour and it does not correct it when i render the video. Can anyone help?

    Thank you for your information.
    The 16:9 vs 4:3 can cause some issues, but is not likely to cause a color shift. Being on PAL, you actually have a bit more "built-in" control on output, than we NTSC-folk.
    Do you have any Effects added to these problem Clips?
    You indicate that the color/gamma was correct, when you did your Capture. Was it still good, when you first dragged these Clips to the Timeline? Was it ONLY after you closed and reopened the Project, that you encountered the shift? If you were to drag one of those Clips to the Timeline, next to one of the problem ones, would it look correct? If so, can you do a screen-cap of this side-by-side comparison? Hint: use the little "camera" icon in the lower-middle of the Toolbar in the editing screen to attach the screen-cap, so it will appear in the body of your post, and not have to go through queue. Also, I'd suggest doing the screen-cap as a BMP, or high-quality (say 9 on the Photoshop quality scale), so the image is as clear, as is possible. Please add annotations so we can readily see the "before" and the "after."
    The behavior that you describe is odd, and that is why I'm still asking questions.
    The only thing that comes to mind would be a video display issue, but this should be universal and should not be selective, as you describe.
    While you're helping us work through this, please check your video driver for any updates. Windows has just released some updates and hot-fixes, and these can mess up video drivers. That is about the only thing that comes to my mind, as a possible cause. Again, this would be a global change and would not be at all selective.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • [f8] Changing colour of clips on stage via AS

    Hi all
    I have 20 odd little swfs, each of which will be loaded into
    a body swf at one point or another.
    Each of these contains anywhere between 4 and 20
    single-colour buttons. What I need is for each of them to simply
    change colour when rolled over/out.
    Here is the code thus far thanks to some outside help, but I
    can't pick where it's going wrong.
    The naming convention is just b1,b2 etc depending on how many
    said buttons are in each clip.
    Suggestions?
    Cheers
    this.i = 0;
    while(this["b" + (i++)]) {
    this["b" + i].onRollOver = function():Void {
    this.colour.setRGB(0x5FBEFE)
    this["b" + i].onRollOut = function():Void {
    this.colour.setRGB(0x139FFD)
    delete this.i;

    Problem solved :)
    this.i = 0;
    while(this["b" + (++this.i)]) {
    this["b" + this.i].onRollOver = function():Void {
    myColor = new Color(this);
    myColor.setRGB(0x5FBEFE);
    this["b" + this.i].onRollOut = function():Void {
    myColor = new Color(this);
    myColor.setRGB(0x139FFD);
    delete this.i;

  • Matching colour across clips based on one or more reference points

    I usually use three cameras of different makes and occasionally five (adding two GoPros)  This leaves me with the task of colour matching in post as even when manually adjusting for WB, the sensors just record some colours differently.
    Here's a sample where I've manully adjusted the colours so that the shirt is more or less the same from all three angles:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMacSgwjFBc  The CU of the fly tyer has the best colour representation of the three cameras so I would want to match colour or the other two, to it. FCPx's colour match doesn't cut it for this job.
    What I'd like is a colour adjustment tool where I could pick one or more shades in one clip, from his shirt for example, and then paste that pick onto a different clip and have the tool adjust the colour of that clip, based on the difference.
    Is there anything out there that will do this?  Failing that, would Hawaiki Autograde be a decent alternative for this sort of colour balancing between cameras?

    In the end, I bought AutoGrade as its tint and WB balance controls let me manage things just like these controls do in Aperture.  It would be nice if FCPx had them as it's a simple way to manage WB issues, vs. playing with colour correction.

  • I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message.  This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac.  I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

    I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message.  I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old.  Obviously I'm using iDVD.  I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem.  A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above.  I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD.  Still the same message came up.  I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened.  This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
    After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened.  They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
    I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had.  The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's.  The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message.  The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
    I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work!  It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion.  I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy.  It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
    I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
    I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems.  Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.
    Jayne Connelly

    Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter.  So much appreciated.  And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this).  Although, you may regret asking for more information.  I've added everything I can below.
    The process I used is as follows:
    Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
    Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
    Add title to front of clips
    ‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
    Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
    Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
    Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
    Select submenu  - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
    Change title colours on clips
    Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
    In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
    In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
    Try new DVD discs
    Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
    Change images in drop zones
    Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
    Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
    Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
    Try with one clip and no menu pages added
    Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
    Turn computer off and restart
    New hard drive
    New optical lense (thing)
    New DVD burner
    Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
    Other points:
    I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
    For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across.  I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went.  It burned to disc image successfully.
    The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this.  That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.

  • Wish list for Premiere CS6

    Please invest in getting a good slow motion plugin bundled with premiere cs6, the current slow mo is choppy at best even with frame blending. Get twixtor or other bundled with cs6 please.
    There should be a button to deactivate all plugins/effects on all clips so playback can be seemless to review an edit. We can only currently do this manually by deselecting every effect on evey clip which takes forever, there should be a generic option for all effects enable/disableon all video in the sequence.
    Multicam needs to extend from 4 cameras to at least 8 or above as with most other NLEs
    Add some alpha based transitions in the effects transitions similar to pixelan transitions
    Particle effects similar trapcode particular for effects like smoke, fire, sparks etc.
    extention to lens flare with more control over flare, flare components, rays, glow ect
    A colour corrector that will balance colour between clips ergo you have 3 separate clips and the colour temp is slightly different in each, a fast solution is needed to balance all clips. If the shots are similar there should be a way that NLE can correct colour for both so individual clips match with aid of user. A sort of balance this clip to the colour in this other clip. Again basic colour correction is always used and a very time consuming process, simlifying this will help.
    Movie sound effects bank for online content. Many people spend hours looking for or creating simple movie sound effects for fighting, inanimate object collisions, effects for impact, wooshes, trailer effects etc.
    My oppinion soo far is Adobe CS suits are great and work well together, the software IS getting better so these are just my thoughts.

  • Pro Res v HDV v SD comparison test

    Just incase anyone is interested, I have just completed a comparison test for checking the processing times for converting HDV footage into SD (ready for authoring). Having read up on the forum,the options of keeping things in native HDV , converting to 422 or downconverting to SD at the start, I thought I would try a like for like test and see how it came out, both from a processing time and quality viewpoint. (this is only my test, so please don't hammer me if you don't agree, I am only trying to share this basic test.
    Exactly 1 minute of footage was filmed on Sony Z1 as HDV
    The footage contained a mixture of static, and slow pan shots, to make it a bit challenging.
    Option 1 - Capture and edit using Pro Res 422
    Option 2 - Capture and edit using native HDV
    Option 3 - Down convert from HDV to SD via the camera, edit in SD anamorphic (don't groan just yet)
    All clips had the exact same transitions and filters applied
    These were 2 x cross dissolves, 1x 3way colour corrected clip, 1 x speed modification clip.
    All processed on a new MBP 2.53 with all settings left as default (hopefully a fair representation for many)
    The process was to export a self contained QT file, import into compressor (best quality), timed until the MPEG2 and AC3 file icons popped up as complete and ready for import into DVDSP.
    The time results were as follows:
    Option 1 (Pro Res422) - time taken to exp to QT = 131sec, Compressor encode time=371sec
    Total time 502 secs i.e 8m 22s with the QT file size being 731mb
    Option 2 (native HDV) - time taken to exp to QT = 197sec, Compressor encode time = 400 sec
    Total time 597 secs i.e 9m 47s with the Qt file size being 192mb
    Option 3 (DC to SD 1st)- time taken to exp to QT = 22 sec, Compressor encode time = 94 sec
    Total time 116 secs i.e 1m 56s with the QT file size being 219mb (strange as i thought it would be less than the HDV version, but there we go)
    All 3 options were then imported into DVDSP and the same settings chosen for burning a SD DVD and the 3 dvds then displayed on a 42"plasma (pioneer) and 42"LCD (sony bravia).DVD players Sony upscaling DVD connected via HDMI and Sony Std DVD non upscaling DVD player.
    6 people(1 x BBC camera man, 1 X editor and 1 x program manager, 3 x general public ) were then persuaded to view DVDs and pick what they thought was the best. None had any knowledge as to which was which.
    Results surprised me, in so much that most struggled to spot the difference!
    1 picked the Pro Res (stating they thought it was a little sharper)
    1 picked the native HDV, giving a similar reason
    4 said that they would be happy with either and couldn't see any concernable difference to pick one over another.
    Ok so maybe not a scientific test, and I am sure some will say oh but...if you had done this, or that, then the results would have been different, but hey I only did the test to see in a real world, what the differences are. Certainly the processing times varied hugely from 1m56s to 9m47s for the same 1 minute piece of film. Likewise the QT file sizes from 192mb (hdv) to 731mb (422).
    So if storage or time are really critical, I hope it may be useful to anyone with little HDV experience (like me) to make a decision. At least in this case, most people cannot tell the difference for it to be that important.
    I would like to hear if anybody else has had too much time on their hands to carry out similar tests and come up with the same or different results?
    This is after all only a tiny piece of the jigsaw.
    Cheers
    Stu

    It offers better performance when editing. HDV is processor intensive, and can take longer to render, and a lot longer to compress into your final format. And HDV is an 8-bit 4:2:0 codec. While you can't change that going to ProRes, ProRes is 4:2:2 10-bit, and color correcting that gives you better leway with color...you can push things more. just a TAD more, as your color information is already whack.
    But if you intend to master back to HDV, do not go to ProRes. To go back to HDV you need to capture as native HDV.

  • Canon HF20: backup the MTS files (and later convert), or import in AIC?

    Camcorder: Canon HF20. FCE 4.01.
    I have filmed some clips with the 7 mbps setting. The file size of the mts files is fairly small, but when importing it to FCE (or iMovie) the filesize is increased 10 times (to about 60 mbps) I found the answer in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10900327&#10900327 ,
    I want to save all my video clips to my external drive, and I am tempted to just copy the mts files to a folder, and then later convert them when I want to edit the footage. Would this be possible, or do I have to import them in FCE now?
    Is it possible to copy the mts files back to the camcorder at a later time (the entire file structure - the folder is called BDMV) and then import it in FCE?

    Yeah, make sure you copy the entire folder structure from the highest level and DONT delete ANY files (like I did!)
    I spent the entire night last night and the last week trying to get compatibility of .MTS files shot on a Canon HFS11 into FCE 4 (FCE 4.0.1 to be exact).
    I shot 3 months worth of footage on the HFS11 and would daily dump the AVCHD folders into date folders (ie 060110, 070110, etc etc) on an external HDD.
    Since I had all the .MTS files off the camera I didnt know if I could use Log and Transfer to bring them into FCE but it is possible. Like other forums many people suggested you had to have the folders exactly like they were on the camera. This is true, unless of course you have deleted some files or if any become corrupt then the structure isnt exactly the same. For me I had deleted any junk files using a fast .MTS viewer (called a windows 7 machine!) without realising it was going to affect the 'import' process in FCE.
    SOLUTION
    I found that the files in the CLIPINF folder (.CLI files) were matched to the .MTS files in the STREAM folder. So if you delete any .MTS files I guess Log and Transfer reads the INDEX.BDM file or the .CLI files and says hang on, something is different. So I went through my .CLI files and found the names missing from the .MTS files and duplicated a colour bar clip I made and renamed it to the missing files. Viola, and FCE 4 could 'import' them.

  • Editing: When I pause playhead on timeline, picture goes slightly darker!

    need some advice on this. I have an edit I'm working on, imported as ProRes and have noticed this issue quite a few times before, but not sure if it's just a unique problem. When I play the clip on the timeline, the canvas picture looks normal, and then when I stop the picture goes noticeably darker. It's difficult to work out which is the colour correct clip - the one where the playhead hasd stopped on, or the one which plays?!!! I hope I'm making sense on this?! As I said have noticed it before, but I'm working on something which is colour critical so need the advice.
    Thanks

    If you are working on something that is color critical, then you should be monitoring properly, with a capture card and broadcast monitor (or darn good HDTV). The Canvas is the LAST place you should be judging the quality of the footage.
    Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the video data is used in displaying the movie in the Canvas. When you pause, it snaps to full quality...as much quality as you can get in that small screen. But a computer monitor is not the place to judge color...

  • Histogram Shadow Clipping Indicator - What do the colours indicate?

    To see what colours in the shadows are clipping to zero, and exactly where they occur in your image, you can hold down the Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac) key and move the Blacks slider to the left (in ACR 7.x and 8.x).
    To quote from the top of page 206 of Jeff Schewe's and Bruce Fraser's 'Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS5' (which deals with ACR 6.x - but AFAIAA nothing has changed in ACR 7.x or 8.x), you interpret the displayed result as follows:
    "Unclipped pixels display as white. The other colors show you which channels are being clipped to level 0. Cyan pixels indicate red-channel clipping; magenta pixels indicate green-channel clipping; yellow pixels indicate blue-channel clipping. Red pixels indicate clipping in both green and blue channels; green pixels indicate clipping in red and blue channels; and blue pixels indicate clipping in red and green channels. Black pixels indicate that all three channels are clipped."
    Does the same result hold true for the colour of the Histogram Shadow Clipping Indicator?

    Thanks, Eric. I'll check out your suggestion about the point curve.
    I've already started to do some testing of my own, based on the Histogram's reaction faced with simple images composed only of various combinations of pure (fully saturated) Black, White, Grey (dark, mid and light), Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The results so far are a little surprising, but I'll report in full when I've had the chance to complete the test.

  • Clip colour/lighting/contrast keeps flickering in fcpx and export

    I've edited together a film on FCPX, and seem to be having issues with many of the clips that seem to be flickering. The colour/contrast/lighting keeps going lighter and darker. I thought this was just an issue of watching it on FCPX but the same applies when it was exported.
    It was filmed using the Nikon D5200.

    Ah, I think I may have resolved the issue. They played fine in Quicktime, but I have now Transcoded the Media in the Project and it seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help anyway, and the compliment

  • Video tutorial on changing the colour within a clip on Pr CC

    Evening again,
    Please, would someone help me. The other day I watched a clip narrated by a women who took you through how to change the colour within a clip using a scene from someone surfing - turning the murky water into a deep blue colour.
    I'm dearly trying to find it but to no avail, can anyone point me in the right direction. I've searched using many terms.
    Thanks
    Ashley

    Hi Ashley,
    You're talking about changing one color within a scene? That's secondary color correction. Here is a tutorial for you:

  • Colour won't recognise my clips from Final Cut?? PLEASE HELP!!

    I have imported a single track of clips into Colour. The clips comprised of three different source films;
    - One of the films has gone in fine.
    - One of the films is apparently 'offline' and I can't understand why, as it is still online in Finalcut.
    - One of the films, and this is the very weird bit... has selected entirely different footage from elsewhere in the source clip. The clips in Final Cut show certain footage, where as the SAME CLIPS in Colour show something different. This is mind boggling.
    If anyone can offer any advice it'd be very much appreciated, I have to finish the project (a showreel) a.s.a.p and its killing me!
    Thanks again, Ricky.

    Not really a answer but a solution would be to do the following -
    1. Export your sequence as a baked down QT (Apple Pro Res or Uncompressed if your system can handle it)
    2. Re-Import the export to FCP and make "y" on your keyboard "add-edit"
    3. Place the exported clip over your original sequence in a new vid layer and go through and put the cuts back into the exported clip by hitting the down arrow and then pressing Y - with a bit of practice you can fly through a sequence using this method.
    4. Copy and paste the exported film with the cuts back in into a new sequence making sure the sequence settings match the clip codec.
    5. Send to Color the normal way.
    Hope this helps

  • Can I change hair colour in a video clip using keyframing?

    Or would I need FC pro? Basically the lighting on the clip was stuffed up so I need to 'colour-in' the hair to keep it dark. Is this possible?
    cheers!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    You can do this FX within FCE by using color matte with a mask in multiply composite mode. A lot of keyframing to position/animate de mask over each frame.

  • Why does the colour on my Premiere Pro clip change when I add a title to it in After Effects?

    I applied some colour effects to a clip I was working on in Adobe Premiere Pro, but when I replace the composition of the clip with an Affter Effects composition and simply add a title over the video, it saves the clip with a slightly different colour. It doesn't seem to be removing the colour effect that I added to it, just altering it. Any ideas as to what may be happening, and how I can keep the colour consistent? Thanks a mil!

    Just a guess about something to look at - check the color settings in your After Effects project.  If you increase the bit depth to 16 or 32 bits per channel and check your color management settings, you may have a better result.  I'm a bit clueless about the various options under Color Settings, but maybe you will hit upon something that works.
