Tungsten e2 and datebk3

i have just upgraded my tungsten e to an e2.  while datebk3 worked just fine on my e, there is an enormous lag time when i  try to access it and exit from it on the e2.  according to the pimlico site, there shouldn't be a problem but...  i would appreciate any comments.
Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
DateBk3 was released long, long ago, I'm pretty sure long before the Non-Volatile File System devices were released by Palm (beginning with the T5 and the Treo 650).  Maybe that's a reason for the delays.  They're now up to DateBk6.
I suggest you download the trial version of DateBk6 to see if it works better, and consider an upgrade if it does.

What operating system should I use to manage Tungsten E and Tungsten W while running Windows Vista?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
The Windows Hotsync board is chock full of threads and stickies regarding Windows Vista and older Palm devices such as yours.
32-bit Vista: use Palm Desktop 6.2.2 plus PalmHotsyncSetup from www.pimlicosoftware.com
64-bit Vista: USB Hotsync won't work (no drivers).  Must use IR beaming, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to Hotsync
p.s. I have merged your two threads

  • Tungsten T3 and I get a error message

I'm trying to sync my Tungsten T3 and the message I get on my T3 is "Connection between your handheld computer and the desktopcould not be established.  Please check your setup and try again"
I have changed Ports and changed USB ports. Nothing seems to work. When I touch the Sync button on the cradle... I hear 3 beep sounds. In the past I only heard one.

Hello and welcome to the Palm forums.
Do you see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen? Is there an arrow with the option to "show hidden icons"? If you do not see it there, hot sync will be disabled and you will keep getting that message (the connection between your device and the desktop could not be established...).
To enable the hot sync program once again, click on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm OS Desktop/Palm One > Hot Sync Manager. It will take about 5-10 seconds and the icon will be there once again.
Also, make sure your device is firmly plugged in to the cable that connects it to the computer. Check that the usb port is plugged into the computer as well.
Now the sync should go through.

  • Tungsten E and Mac OSX 10.5.6

I have a Tungsten E that I haven't used in a while, but had last hotsync'd to my desktop computer, which had Mac OS 10.4.
My laptop, which I'd like to get the palm software on is OS 10.5.6.
But when I went to install on my laptop, I see in the read me file that the Tungsten E software that came with the palm is only for OSX version 10.1.2 to 10.2.6.
Do I dare install it on my 10.5.6? If I do, is the Tungsten E software upgradable to this system? If so, where can I find that update?
Confused in NH!!!! Appreciate any assistance!

  • Palm Tungsten E2 and Mac 10.3.9

I am getting a Palm Tungsten E2. What issues should I be aware of when trying to use it with iSync/OS 10.3.9? I plan on using it to keep my calendar and contacts handy, for the most part.
Also, I foresee upgrading to a new computer within 6 months- will the Tungsten still be useful with the new OS?

First things first...all installations should be updated to 4.0.5.

  • Prob w/ Tungsten T3 and Sun One

I have a Tungsten T3 Palm Pilot that is connecting to a Windows XP Professional laptop. This machine has 1GB of RAM, 40GB HDD, and 2.3GHZ. The problem that I am having is that when I try to synchronize contents from the iPlanet calendar server to the Palm Desktop ( Palm Desktop 4.14 ), I get the following error message shown here:
    Sun ONE Synchronization
    Errors and Warnings
    Serial #: 1
    Application: Date Book
    Type: Error
    Data:
    Start Date =
    Start Time =
    End Date = 12/31/1970
    End Time =
    Description = \
    Alarm = 0
    Alarm Date =
    Alarm Time =
    Private = 0
    Note =
    Error Message(s):
Field out of range: Start Date
It gives me the option to proceed but when I click on proceed nothing gets transferred over, even though the message box says "Synchronization completed successfully". I have re-installed the Palm Desktop software, the Sun One Software and even went as far as starting from scratch and deleting all Palm and Sun One entries from the registry and re-installing from there with no luck. There is no date that I am aware of, boasting the year 1970 ( as stated in the log ), so I dont know why the application DateBook is screaming about this. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated it, it seems that I have tried everything. I even went to the Sun One and Palm Support Sites but still I didnt have any luck of finding the solution to this. btw I installed the latest Sun One patches but still no luck and also updated the Palm Desktop application.

    Hi Sergio,
Have you tried enabling full debugging on the Sun synchronisation tool? This may provide you with additional debugging information to help resolve your issue.
To turn on full debugging, run:
Start -> Programs -> Sun One Synchronization -> Sun One Synchronization Debug Log
Set the logging level to 5 and try the synchronization again.
The debug log is placed in:
    C:\program files\common files\XCPCSync\Log\rsSync.log
    Cheers,
    Shane.

  • Tungsten C and Vista x64

Does anyone know how to synch a Tungsten C via USB on a computer running Vista x64?  Will I also be able to synch 3rd party apps?
    Very frustrated!
    Post relates to: Tungsten C

I got my WiFi hotsync to work fine on my Vista 64 system. The latest Palm Desktop versions did not work for me, only the original set up disk worked. Make sure all previous versions of Palm Desktop that you may have tried to install are uninstalled first and to be safe, reboot after the uninstall. Go to help and support in your start menu. Type "compatibility wizard in the search pane. Start the wizard. Follow the directions and select the Start with XP service pack option. Also choose the start with cd option. Insert the original Tungsten C installation disk. You may have to fool around with the various screens that come up next, but the bottom line is, install the original program from your installation disk under the run with XP option. You will then be able to hotsync with Wifi after you set up the wifi on your palm with the correct computer name and ip address. (VPN is not necessary.). I have not yet tried the USB as it is still set up on a backup computer with XP, but I suspect thet it will work. You may have to reboot before the hot sync after installation. Also you will note an icon in the taskbar that shows that there is a program that was blocked from startup by Vista. You have to click on the icon and open the blocked program which is Palm Desktop before each hotsync. (It opens the hotsync icon on the taskbar and then allows the options menu in the palm desktop program to work). Also you will probably have to open the hotsync icon on the taskbar and configure the setup before first hotsync.

  • Tungsten T5 and New Vista Computer

Okay--I believe I've tried everything--4.1 and 6.2--my computer recognizes something has been plugged in--but keeps calling it Palm One (in device manager and it has a yellow caution triangle with an exclamation point in it)--which it isn't it's a TungstenT5--I still cannot get a hotsync to happen and I can't understand half of what the heck everyone has written on this subject before...someone please, please tell me in clear language what my best bet would be to get things working.  I have been working on computers since the mid-80s, many programs, many computers--both MACs and PCs-- but this has got me baffled.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Tungsten E2 and wi-fi card

As my icon shows, I am a newbie, and I have a very basic question about a wi-fi card. Is this something additional that I would have to purchase since I am striking out with the blue tooth option?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hello SharonML, the Wifi card is another piece of hardware that you will have to purchase.  It is not inlcuded with an E2.
Unfortunately, Palm has discontinued selling the card, so you're limited to the areas of eBay and maybe amazon.com.
"striking out with the blue tooth option"???  What are you trying to do?

  • Palm Tungsten E and G4 Powerbook not syncing at all - why?

I have bought a 2nd hand Tungsten which apparently worked perfectly well before. But even though i have installed it properly, it won't sync, and when I go to iSync I am not allowed to install a device either. Any help gratefully received as I am stuck. All I want is for Address Book and iCal to sync with the hand held and I will be a happy woman...

This is a permissions problem. Even though you are using updated Palm and iSync software the problem below still surfaces. To fix it you need to change the permission on three folders. You need Admin access to change the permissions but I set the owner of the folders to be regular user (who was the palm owner) and then everything is working fine. (I suspect I may have more to do if there were two palm users from different accounts.) Good luck
    [From the palm site]
Palm Desktop Installer Access Denied error after iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit has been installed.
You may receive the following error during installation or re-installation of Palm Desktop if you have installed the iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit for Mac OS X:
"Sorry, the operation could not be completed due to a System error. (Access Denied.)"
Explanation: the iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit installer changes the ownership and permission settings of some Palm folders to Read Only. The Palm Desktop Installer requires these folders have Read & Write access.
Workaround: A user with Administrator privileges (usually the primary user under Mac OS X) must change these privileges prior to running the Palm Desktop installer.
Perform one of the following procedures to change the affected folder privileges:
    Mac OS X 10.2.x and 10.3.x
    1. Download and install the latest version of Palm Desktop for Macintosh from the Palm support website, here: http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/mac_desktop.html
Alternatively, if you need to reinstall your software from the original CD you must perform the following procedure.
In the Finder, select the "/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync" folder. Note that this is the Library folder at the ‘root' level of your hard drive, not the Library folder in your user Home folder.
Select "Get Info" from the File menu.
Select the lock icon next to the "Owner" name to unlock it.
Select the Owner menu and select your username (or a user with Admin privileges). You may be asked to enter your password at this time.
Change the Owner's Access to "Read & Write"
Select the "Group" name and change it to "Admin"
Change the Group's Access to "Read & Write"
Repeat steps 2 through 8 for the following two folders:
    "/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits"
    "/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Disabled Conduits"

  • I lost my Tungsten E and just got Palm III - software??

Hi, I liked my Tungsten E -- hey at least it was in color! -- but just got a good deal on a "new" Palm III but now I've tried to install my diet & exercise software that I had bought for the Tungsten.  I was able to download it to the Palm III, well, at least the icon is there, but when I click on the app, the unit freezes and it looks like the software might be too much for the unit - although the only requirements in the manual seem to be adequate memory.  If I upgrade the software to the 4.1 OS, would the software then work better?  It shows that I have about more than 900K memory left, so I don't think that's the problem...
    Post relates to: Palm III

The III and the E run two very different versions of PalmOS.  I'm guessing the program you tried to install on the III is only for PalmOS version 5.
The III series runs version 3.x - 4.x which does not support version 5.  Any program written for 5.x will not run.
