there is a possibility that this is a software problem.
if you did a hard reset and did not sync, you are still observing the device and you are getting the same problem then it is a hardware issue already. but if not try this:
1. perform a hard reset on the device. as mentioned this erases all the data on the handheld.
2. if you are hotsynching to outlook then you can hotsync directly to a new username.
3. if you are hotsynching to palm dekstop then you need to change some settings. you have to rename the backup fodler under the directory c:/program files/palm/(userfolder). once you found the backup folder, right click backup and click rename. rename it to backupold. once done. close current open windows.
4. change the PIMs settigns to desktop overwrites handheld. click the hotsync manager. go to custom. under custom window make sure you are under the correct username. locate for the PIMs and change it to desktop overwrites handheld.
clcik on ok and done and then hotsync to the same username.
hope this one works.

  • Well-used Tungsten E2 won't turn on without reset

I've had my E2 for quite awhile. It's had two problems recently: not turning on without a reset, and not holding a charge. Replacing the battery took care of the charging problem, but it still won't turn on without resetting it every day or so (even if the battery is still charged). Please help!

It is possible that the contacts on the motherboard have warn down and are no longer making good contact with the nubs on the underside of the plastic hardware buttons.
If that is the case, you'd have to get a new motherboard.  If that is something you want to do, you can check PDAParts.com or UsedPDAParts.com.  I have used both services and they are good.

  • Tungsten E2 won't turn off!

I haven't messed with any of the settings on my Tungsten, and now all of a sudden, it won't turn off. I don't know what happened. If I actually turn it off, it turns on again in exactly 10 seconds. Because it stays on all the time, when it's not charging, the battery dies after a few hours. I have tried resetting, too. Any suggestions?

  • PALM TUNGSTEN E2 Won't turn off

I have a TUNGSTEN E2 that seems to have a software glitch.  When I press the power off button, the unit turns off, but after about 10 seconds, it turns itself back on!  Which if I don't have the power cord plugged in will drain my battery quickly.  I thought it was a switch problem, so I performed a HotSync with another E2 I own and it too started turning on by itself after 10 seconds.  How do I stop this from ocurring?
    Thank-you for your help!

As with most problems that occur on a Palm PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)
    Hope this has helped,

  • IPod won't turn on after Soft Reset?

My 8GB iPod Touch has been lagging and glitching a lot lately. So I did a Soft Reset, and now the black screen with the little silver Apple logo is on there, and stayed there for 30 minutes. If I press any button, it'll go all white and restart the reset.
Now I've waited for about an hour, and it won't turn on. Plus it won't connect to my iTunes if I plug it into my laptop.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Setting SOFT SKIN won't turn off!!

I have one really annoying problem on my brand new Z1.. SOFT SKIN setting WONT turn off! And it's off in the settings. I'm an amateur photographer who especially likes to snap portraits. And this bug or a glitch is such a bummer for me. Face looks unnatural and photo quality poor. I HATE IT!  And it makes even worse that it won't turn off!
PLEASE help me if you know something about this!

  • Palm Tungsten E2 won't shut off or reset

My batteries died, I plugged it into my USB to hotsynch and charge. When sync was complete, the screen was nonresponsive, and started to form grey lines accross the bottom, working their way up until the whole screen was pixilated. No buttons worked.
I left it on the charger figuring the batteries were just WAY dead, then did a soft reset. Unit stays on the grey "Palm Powered" screen, but there is a black bar flashing across the top, roughly 1/16 inch wide. No buttons work. Tried the hard reset, same effect.
    Now what?

The Find my iPhone service option is given to you when you first set up the device. If you just reset it, you may have been given that option. So, in other words, the service may have been enabled even if you didn't realize it. You can then go to www.icloud.com and click on Find my iPhone, and have it play a sound. Or, you can use the Find my iPhone app on your mom's iPhone, but the service would still need to be turned on on your iPod.
Unlike Compukid said, Apple will not assist in locating a lost device without the Find my iPhone service.
I found that out 2 years ago, it's just that I thought Apple might have changed that.

  • White iPhone 4 camera flas won't turn off

I have the white iPhone 4 and the flash on the camera won't turn off. It comes on randomly and then just turns off. Tried to soft and hard reset as well as restore. I thought it was an app but still no avail.

Have you tried resetting the phone?
-hold the sleep/wake button and home button simultaneously until the display goes black and the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work, try updating the phone. If the issue is malfunctioning software this may fix it.

  • IPod classic 80gig won't turn off

My iPod classic 80 gig (2007) won't turn off. It seems to me the whole Play/Pause switch is non-functional. How to fix? Everything else seems all right.
Also, when I do 'reset', and get the apple logo, is that signifying 'turned off'? (I've just bought the iPod 2nd hand, so am not familiar with it.)
    Replies appreciated.

    For what it's worth:
My iPod Photo (60G, purchased June 2005) wouldn't turn off either. I nearly always play the iPod docked to a Bose SoundDock external speaker. Yesterday, I lifted it off the speaker dock without turning it off first to take it on a trip. Discovered it wouldn't turn off by holding down pause/play, even for a full minute. No choice but to let it drain until the next day. Back home, I placed it in the dock, let it charge for about 15 minutes, turned it on (it turned on OK), turned it off *while still docked* (it turned off OK), took it out of the dock, turned it on out of the dock (OK), turned it off out of the dock (OK).
Not sure what, if anything, this means.

Are you trying to get it to turn off without running the battery down? Have you tried reseting it?
If you're willing to wait, you could let it run down, recarge it, and see if the problem is gone.

Have you tried a soft-reset : Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should reappear and it will hopefully reboot.

  • IPhone won't turn off or connect to wifi

I have the iPhone 4S and recently I have been encountering many problems with it. I don't know if they are problems with the hardware or the software but my facetime hasn't worked in a long time and my phone hasn't connected to wifi in the past two months. Sometimes the wifi turns off and the bar to turn it back on is dim while other times it turns on but doesn't acknowledge anything to connect to. In addition to the wifi troubles, occasionally my phone screen will turn black for a little while and after some time it will just wake up. The apple doesn't show up so I guess that means the phone isn't turning off- just sleeping. Also, sometimes my apps won't load and then my phone will automatically turn off. Occasionally, my touch screen stops acknowledging the fact that I'm touching it and other times my phone won't turn off. I hold down the power button and the phone just goes to sleep. As you can probably tell, my phone has been malfunctioning a lot and it is starting to get annoying. I don't want my apps to be deleted because I have some that are no longer in the app store and they are very valuable to me. My computer storage is too full to back up my phone though. Any suggestions on how to solve my problem without deleting my apps or any of their saved information?
    Thanks,

Hard to tell. However, since the iPhone does not have user serviceable components, once you opened the device, you forfeit any warranty or post warranty support from Apple and the forum. You are going to have to try and figure this one out on your own.
