Tuning SQL query with similar subqueries for select columns

Hi all,
My query is something like below:
1> SELECT
2> A.COL1,
3> SUM(CASE WHEN A.flag=100 AND NVL(B.flag,0)=0 AND
4> EXISTS (
5> SELECT 'ROW_EXISTS'
6> FROM A A0
7> WHERE A0.COL2=100 AND NVL(A0.flag,0)=0 AND 0.DIRN<>A.DIRN)
8> THEN 1
9> ELSE 0
10> END) SUM_COLUMN1,
11>SUM(CASE WHEN A.flag=100 AND
12> EXISTS (
13> SELECT 'ROW_EXISTS'
14> FROM A A0
15> WHERE A0.COL2=100 AND A0.DIRN<>A.DIRN)
16> THEN 1
17> ELSE 0
18>END) SUM_COLUMN2
19>FROM A,B
20>WHERE A.COL=B.KEY_COL
21>GROUP BY A.COL1
My problem is that I need to index scan the tables A aliased as A0 in the two exist queries. Lines: 5-7 and 13-15.
The major performance degradation i see with the query is that it has to scan A0 twice to compute SUM_COLUMN1 and SUM_COLUMN2.
Is there any way by which i can use the same subquery to scan the table just once to compute the columns.
The table A has more than a 100million records. So i need to improve performance of this query though it is a small issue.
Please feel free to ask me more if i'm not clear with the example.
Thanks in advance,
Raj

Also you could use analytic functions:
SQL> select deptno, sum(case when e.mgr is not null and
  2  exists (select 1 from emp e1 where e1.empno <> e.empno
  3  and e1.deptno = 10 and e1.sal >= 1500)
  4  then 1 else 0 end) sum1,
  5  sum(case when e.mgr is not null and e.sal >= 1200 and
  6  exists (select 1 from emp e1 where e1.empno <> e.empno and e1.deptno = 10)
  7  then 1 else 0 end) sum2
  8  from emp e
  9  group by deptno
10  /
    DEPTNO       SUM1       SUM2
        10          2          2
        20          5          3
        30          6          5
SQL> select deptno, sum(case when mgr is not null and
  2  (d12 != empno or empno !=d11) then 1 else 0 end) sum1,
  3  sum(case when mgr is not null and (d21 != empno or empno !=d22)
  4  and sal >= 1200 then 1 else 0 end) sum2
  5  from (
  6  select deptno, empno, mgr, sal,
  7  min(case when deptno = 10 and sal >= 1500
  8  then empno else -1 end) over(order by null) d11,
  9  max(case when deptno = 10 and sal >= 1500
10  then empno else -1 end) over(order by null) d12,
11  min(case when deptno = 10 then empno else -1 end) over(order by null) d21,
12  max(case when deptno = 10 then empno else -1 end) over(order by null) d22
13  from emp e
14  )
15  group by deptno
16  /
    DEPTNO       SUM1       SUM2
        10          2          2
        20          5          3
        30          6          5In your case it could be something like
SELECT COL1,
SUM( CASE WHEN a_flag = 100 and nvl(b_flag,0)=0 and
(DIRN != MIN_A OR DIRN != MAX_A) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) SUM_COLUMN1,
SUM( CASE WHEN a_flag = 100 and
(DIRN != MIN_B OR DIRN != MAX_B) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) SUM_COLUMN2
FROM (
SELECT A.COL1, A.FLAG A_FLAG, B.FLAG B_FLAG, A.DIRN,
MIN(CASE WHEN A.COL2=100 and NVL(A.flag,0) = 0 THEN A.DIRN ELSE null END) OVER(order by null) MIN_A,
MAX(CASE WHEN A.COL2=100 and NVL(A.flag,0) = 0 THEN A.DIRN ELSE null END) OVER(order by null) MAX_A,
MIN(CASE WHEN A.COL2=100 THEN A.DIRN ELSE null END) OVER(order by null) MIN_B,
MAX(CASE WHEN A.COL2=100 THEN A.DIRN ELSE null END) OVER(order by null) MAX_B
FROM A,B
WHERE A.COL=B.KEY_COL
GROUP BY COL1

    the query look like this
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM professionnel WHERE mdsys.sdo_filter(professionnel.coor_cart,mdsys.sdo_geometry(2003, null, null,mdsys.sdo_elem_info_array(1,1003,4),mdsys.sdo_ordinate_array(809990,2087279,778784,2087279,794387,2102882)),'querytype=window') = 'TRUE' AND professionnel.code_rubr ='12 3 30' AND CONTAINS(professionnel.Ctx,'PLOMBERIE within Nom and ( RUE within Adresse1 )',1)>0

    Hi Vincent,
    We have patches for Oracle 8.1.6 Spatial
    on NT and Solaris.
    These patches include bug fixes and
    performance enhancements.
    We are in the process of making these patches
    avaialble in a permanent place, but until then, I will temporarily put the patches on:
    ftp://oracle-ftp.oracle.com/
    Log in as anonymous and use your email for
    password.
    The patches are in /tmp/outgoing in:
    NT816-000706.zip - NT patch
    libordsdo.tar - Solaris patch
    I recommend doing some analysis on
    individual pieces of the query.
    i.e. time the following:
    1)
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    FROM professionnel
    WHERE mdsys.sdo_filter(
    professionnel.coor_cart,
    mdsys.sdo_geometry(
    2003, null, null,
    mdsys.sdo_elem_info_array(1,1003,4),
    mdsys.sdo_ordinate_array(
    809990,2087279,
    778784,2087279,
    794387,2102882)),
    'querytype=window') = 'TRUE';
    2)
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    FROM professionnel
    WHERE CONTAINS(professionnel.Ctx,
    'PLOMBERIE within Nom and ( RUE within Adresse1)',1) >0;
    You might want to try reorganizing the entire
    query as follows (no promises).
    If you contact me directly, I can try to
    help to further tune the SQL.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Dan

  • Extract Sql Query with Actual Parameters from Report

    Hi
    I am able to extract query from Crystal Report using the following code :
    ReportDocument.ReportClientDocument.RowSetController.GetSqlStatement(new GroupPath, out tmp);
    But the sql query retrieve comes in the following format :
    select name , trans_code, account_code from command_query.accounts
    where account_code = {?Command_query_Prompt0}  and effective_date < '{?Command_query_prompt1 }'
    The parameters which I m using in the reports are :
    Account_Code and Effective_Date .
    Why does my extracted sql translates it into {?Command_query_Prompt0} and '{?Command_query_prompt1 }' .
    Is there any way to map this to the actual parameter values ?
    OR
    Can we extract the query after assigning the values ?
    Any help is appreciated ...
    Thanks
    Sanchet

    hi,
    You can create nested sql query with conditional parameters,
    For example
    Select Code From OITT Where Code IN (Select ItemCode From OITM
    Where ItemName LIKE '[%0]' + '%%')

    Are there any other options available to produce a file besides me running the query in phpadmin and making the file available to users.

  • Sql query slowness due to rank and columns with null values:

    Sql query slowness due to rank and columns with null values:
    I have the following table in database with around 10 millions records:
    Declaration:
    create table PropertyOwners (
    [Key] int not null primary key,
    PropertyKey int not null,
    BoughtDate DateTime,
    OwnerKey int null,
    GroupKey int null
    go
    [Key] is primary key and combination of PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey and GroupKey is unique.
    With the following index:
    CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_PropertyOwners] ON [dbo].[PropertyOwners]
    [PropertyKey] ASC,
    [BoughtDate] DESC,
    [OwnerKey] DESC,
    [GroupKey] DESC
    go
    Description of the case:
    For single BoughtDate one property can belong to multiple owners or single group, for single record there can either be OwnerKey or GroupKey but not both so one of them will be null for each record. I am trying to retrieve the data from the table using
    following query for the OwnerKey. If there are same property rows for owners and group at the same time than the rows having OwnerKey with be preferred, that is why I am using "OwnerKey desc" in Rank function.
    declare @ownerKey int = 40000
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey
    from (
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey,
    RANK() over (partition by PropertyKey order by BoughtDate desc, OwnerKey desc, GroupKey desc) as [Rank]
    from PropertyOwners
    ) as result
    where result.[Rank]=1 and result.[OwnerKey]=@ownerKey
    It is taking 2-3 seconds to get the records which is too slow, similar time it is taking as I try to get the records using the GroupKey. But when I tried to get the records for the PropertyKey with the same query, it is executing in 10 milliseconds.
    May be the slowness is due to as OwnerKey/GroupKey in the table  can be null and sql server in unable to index it. I have also tried to use the Indexed view to pre ranked them but I can't use it in my query as Rank function is not supported in indexed
    view.
    Please note this table is updated once a day and using Sql Server 2008 R2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    create table #result (PropertyKey int not null, BoughtDate datetime, OwnerKey int null, GroupKey int null, [Rank] int not null)Create index idx ON #result(OwnerKey ,rnk)
    insert into #result(PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey, [Rank])
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey,
    RANK() over (partition by PropertyKey order by BoughtDate desc, OwnerKey desc, GroupKey desc) as [Rank]
    from PropertyOwners
    go
    declare @ownerKey int = 1
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey
    from #result as result
    where result.[Rank]=1
    and result.[OwnerKey]=@ownerKey

  • SQL query with Bind variable with slower execution plan

    I have a 'normal' sql select-insert statement (not using bind variable) and it yields the following execution plan:-
    Execution Plan

    1 0 HASH JOIN (Cost=7 Card=1 Bytes=148)
    2 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'TABLEA' (Cost=4 Card=1 Bytes=100)

    I have the same query but instead running using bind variable (I test it with both oracle form and SQL*plus), it takes considerably longer with a different execution plan:-

    TABLEA has around 3million record while TABLEB has 300 records. Is there anyway I can improve the speed of the sql query with bind variable? I have DBA Access to the database
    Regards
    Ivan

    Many thanks for your reply.
    I have run the statistic already for the both tableA and tableB as well all the indexes associated with both table (using dbms_stats, I am on 9i db ) but not the indexed columns.
    for table I use:-
    begin
    dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(ownname=> 'IVAN', tabname=> 'TABLEA', partname=> NULL);
    end;
    for index I use:-
    begin
    dbms_stats.gather_index_stats(ownname=> 'IVAN', indname=> 'TABLEB_IDX_003', partname=> NULL);
    end;
    Is it possible to show me a sample of how to collect statisc for INDEX columns stats?
    regards

  • Need help with SQL Query with Inline View + Group by

    Hello Gurus,
    I would really appreciate your time and effort regarding this query. I have the following data set.
    Reference_No---Check_Number---Check_Date--------Description-------------------------------Invoice_Number----------Invoice_Type---Paid_Amount-----Vendor_Number
    1234567----------11223-------------- 7/5/2008----------paid for cleaning----------------------44345563------------------I-----------------*20.00*-------------19
    1234567----------11223--------------7/5/2008-----------Adjustment for bad quality---------44345563------------------A-----------------10.00------------19
    7654321----------11223--------------7/5/2008-----------Adjustment from last billing cycle-----23543556-------------------A--------------------50.00--------------19
    4653456----------11223--------------7/5/2008-----------paid for cleaning------------------------35654765--------------------I---------------------30.00-------------19
    Please Ignore '----', added it for clarity
    I am trying to write a query to aggregate paid_amount based on Reference_No, Check_Number, Payment_Date, Invoice_Number, Invoice_Type, Vendor_Number and display description with Invoice_type 'I' when there are multiple records with the same Reference_No, Check_Number, Payment_Date, Invoice_Number, Invoice_Type, Vendor_Number. When there are no multiple records I want to display the respective Description.
    The query should return the following data set
    Reference_No---Check_Number---Check_Date--------Description-------------------------------Invoice_Number----------Invoice_Type---Paid_Amount-----Vendor_Number
    1234567----------11223-------------- 7/5/2008----------paid for cleaning----------------------44345563------------------I-----------------*10.00*------------19
    7654321----------11223--------------7/5/2008-----------Adjustment from last billing cycle-----23543556-------------------A--------------------50.00--------------19
    4653456----------11223--------------7/5/2008-----------paid for cleaning------------------------35654765-------------------I---------------------30.00--------------19
    The following is my query. I am kind of lost.
    select B.Description, A.sequence_id,A.check_date, A.check_number, A.invoice_number, A.amount, A.vendor_number
    from (
    select sequence_id,check_date, check_number, invoice_number, sum(paid_amount) amount, vendor_number
    from INVOICE
    group by sequence_id,check_date, check_number, invoice_number, vendor_number
    ) A, INVOICE B
    where A.sequence_id = B.sequence_id
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • SQL query with JSP and WML-parameters

    Hey,
    Could you help me?
    I'm trying to do the following. WML deck card 1 send parameter to same WML deck's card help. I try to read the parameter with JSP in card help by putting the parameter to SQL query, but it doesn't work. I can read the parameter with WML in card help. I can also print the value of the parameter with JSP if I generate WML with JSP.
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi' value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset = uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where lyhenne='$valittukurssi'");
    Thanks,
    Rampe

    You're problem is easy to fix. You're confusing WML variables with JSP variables. See below:
    >
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi'
    value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    Above you set a var that will work on the phone, not in JSP.
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    Yes the above does display the parameter, because it is a client side WML var, but you cannot use this variable in the JSP code (that's why your SWL fails).
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with
    JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");Here's you're problem, the above line is EXACTLY the same as the one before it. When the container parses through this JSP code it translates the above line to:
    <p>$valittukurssi</p> on the WML page and the CLIENT uses it's local variable to display it.
    What you need and want is to have a variable that can be used in JSP code and output to your WML page. Here's how it's done:
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    String some_name = "valittukurssi";
    out.println("<setvar name='"+some_name+"'
    value='$("+some_name+")'/>");
    //note that you may have to escape the ( and ) with a \
    //so we displayed the variable above into the WML page, now we can use it in the SQL query:
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset =
    uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where
    lyhenne='"+some_name+"'");//the end of the command is: " ' " ) ;

  • Pro*C & SQLDA with NULL value for predicate column

    Hi: I am using a C program to update a table via a dynamic sql (method 4) and SQLDA. In the update statement predicate, I have place holders (as in TBLCOL=:C000). One of the columns in the predicate contains null values, so I set L[n] = 0, V[n] = pData (which pData[0] = '\0'), *(I[n]) = -1, and T[n] = 5 (for text). I cannot find the row that I know is there.
    I cannot change my statement to contain TBLCOL IS NULL, since I don't know ahead of time if I'm looking for rows with null values for this column. The Pro*C manual says that by setting the appropriate *(I[n]) = -1, it indicates to Oracle to simulate the "IS NULL" clause, and update the appropriate rows. In my case, I receive 1403 as SQLCODE when I use TBLCOL=:C000 vs TBLCOL IS NULL. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help.

    You should include these columns as well;
    ChangeType (see mxi_changetype)
    ValOwner (repository)
    UserID ("jobid=<>", usermskey, GUI (mmc), DG (dyngrp), reconcile)
    IdAudit  (This is the event task (add and del member for assignments)
    ParentAuditId (AuditID of parent which last updated the attribute, not consistent)
    ChangedBy (Holds the MSKEY of the user which last changed the attribute)
    ExpiryTime
    to make sure you get a fuller picture of the audit record.
    Your selection does not cover all events and descriptions
    br,
    Chris

  • SEQUENCE Select within an SQL Query with an ORDER BY statement

    Does anyone know why you cannot use an ORDER BY statement within an SQL query when also selecting from a SEQUENCE? My query was selecting production data as a result of a filtered search. I want to take the results of the filtered search and create a transaction. I have a sequence for generating transaction numbers where I select NEXTVAL. Since I could possibly obtain multiple, yet distinct, rows based upon my search criteria, I wanted to use an ORDER BY statement to simplify and order the resulting row(s).
    I was able to get the SQL select with SEQUENCE.NEXTVAL to work without the ORDER BY, so I know that my SQL is correct. Thanks in-advance.

    Okay,
    I understand. You want the sequence assigned first and the you want to ORDER BY. You
    can do this using pipelined functions. See here:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE emp_rec_seq AS OBJECT (
       seq     NUMBER,
       ename   VARCHAR2 (20),
       job     VARCHAR2 (20),
       sal     NUMBER
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE emp_tab_seq AS TABLE OF emp_rec_seq;
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION get_emp_with_sequence
       RETURN emp_tab_seq PIPELINED
    IS
       my_record   emp_rec_seq := emp_rec_seq (NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL);
    BEGIN
       FOR c IN (SELECT dummy.NEXTVAL seq, ename, job, sal
                   FROM emp)
       LOOP
          my_record.seq := c.seq;
          my_record.ename := c.ename;
          my_record.job := c.job;
          my_record.sal := c.sal;
          PIPE ROW (my_record);
       END LOOP;
       RETURN;
    END get_emp_with_sequence;after that, you can do a select like this:
    SELECT seq, ename, job, sal
      FROM TABLE (get_emp_with_sequence)
      order by enamewhich will get you this:
           SEQ ENAME                JOB                         SAL

  • Report and ready for input Query, with similar shadings are confusing

    Some customers mix report and planning queries in their templates.
    usually the shades for PLAN Queries are
    o white - ready vor input
    o blue- display data (e.g. LY, calc KPI)
    In a Query with NO INPUT ready Cells the query has a zebra shading, blue and white, row by row.
    That is confusion for users if they believe every Number on a white background can be changed.
    Is it possible to change the shading for reporting queries to blue only?
    Best Regards,
    Georg

    Hi.
    You can cancel zebra by setting off for ALTERNATE_STYLES in properties if analysis item in WAD, BUT it sets all cells as WHITE and not blue.
    I dont know how it will be usefull, but you may try ...

  • Visual Web - How to 'setObject' for an SQL query with an IN  ? clause

    Hello, I am relatively new to visual web pack. I am stuck at writing the java code for passing parameters to the SQL query. In a normal scenario, where we need to check if some variable is present in a column (= ?), we would pass the parameter as :
    setObject(1, whatevervalue);
    How do we pass parameters if we need to check for more than one variable? The query editor in VWP has the option IN, which allows us to check for more than one match in a column. The IN clause is supposed to allow the format ('ex1', 'ex2' ...). I tried using an array as a parameter, like, setObject(1, somearray). It gives me a null exception. I even tried sending a variable in ('ex1', 'ex2' ...) format; doesn't like it either.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
