Turn colored pdf text to monochrome pdf

I want to print a pdf which contains coloured text to a b/w printer. Text now becomes unreadable greyscale. Is there a way to convert every text color in a pdf (or postscript) file to pure black? So not greyscale like in Acrobat, but 100% black? I'm working on a mac so there isn't a 'print as black' option in acrobat. Don't mind about the images, as long as the colored text is converted.

You can't print color to a Black and White Printer. All it has is Black ink or Black Toner. Either the image will be Shades of gray by controlling the amount and the distance of the drops of ink or bits of toner.
A Color Printer has 4 colors at minimum. Black, Red, Green, Blue; be it ink, or toner. These mixed according to the information sent to driver determines the color viewed.
So a Color PDF printed to a Black and White Printer is either Black and white or Shades of gray to make up the images.

  • Preserving Black color values when converting color PDF to grayscale

I opened a full colored PDF document (exported from InDesign using Profile: Euroscale Coated v2) in Photoshop and tried to convert it to grayscale (image > mode > grayscale) and noticed that the black color values changed. text for example that was 100% black in the PDF document became a screen of 91% black.
is there a way to preserve color values when converting full color PDF documents to grayscale?
or in other words WHICH is the correct way to convert full color PDF documents or full color InDesign files to grayscale?
I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.5.5

Before you open the PDF in Photoshop, set PS's Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces. When you open the PDF set the Mode to Grayscale in the Import dialog. Just remember to reset your color settings when you're done.
Edit: Also, if you want to match black percentages as well as 100% black, set the Photoshop Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces with the Gray working space to Dot Gain 20%.

  • Convert color PDF to Black in Acrobat 9

I have need that I have not been able to find an answer to. I have a fairly large color pdf (over 400 pages of drawings in color) and I would like to turn all the colors to black. Everything I have been able find in my research to do this has to do with converting a color PDF to black & white (grayscale), I do not want to use grayscale, I need the colors to be converted to black. Any color other than white I want to be black. I realize that you can print to black and white but that will not work for me because there are a couple of pages in the PDF that are color models that I will reinsert back in to the PDF after I have converted the PDF.
If anyone can help in this endeavor it would be greatly appreciated.

For Acrobat 9 Pro it is:
    File > Export > PDF/A

  • Convert a color pdf to BW

How do I convert a color PDF to black and white?
I am using Adobe Acrobat X version 10.1.7.
Is there an easy way to do this?

As I said, I have not had much success that way either. Pro had the preflight conversion to Grayscale. Since you have Std, you may have to simply use separate graphic tools to convert to Grayscale and then recreate the PDF. If it is a scanned PDF, then you could simply save to a TIFF, use a graphic package to convert to grayscale (I use Irfanview for this type of simple task) and then move the TIFFs back into a PDF. If you have a mix of graphics and text, you may have to deal with a bit more. If the print converts the text, but not the graphics, you might try extracting the graphics (bitmaps I hope) under the tools menu. Convert those graphics to grayscale and then replace the color images with the new ones. (work on a copy of your PDF just in case something does not work)

  • How to turn a pdf file into excel document and keep original format

I Have an excel bid form that i use all the time ,then i convert it into a PDF  And once in a while i need to add something to it  I paid for acrobat but when i try to turn the PDF back into an excel document the format is changed , the columns are in the wrong places And it does not look at all like the original excell form is there any thing i can do to  fix this If not this will be useless to me  any help appreciated

A PDF does not contain any spreadsheet, word processing or page layout file format information.
    No "format", columns, rows, etc.
"When you create a PDF, you’re painting a picture. Your paintbrush is the is the result of a combination of the software used to create the source document and the software you’ve chosen to convert your source document into the universal electronic document format we all know as PDF.
Like the painter’s brushstrokes, each character, each line and each image is fundamentally independent, but they can interact with each other to produce particular visual effects. On the PDF page, objects are connected by a coordinate system and not a lot else. There’s no logical, semantic connection between the letters comprising a word; characters simply happen at a series of locations on the rendered page.
As originally designed, PDF is fundamentally a system for painting objects onto a page, plus a whole lot of other features we aren’t talking about right now! There’s no innate concept of words, sentences, paragraphs, columns, headings, images, tables, lists, footnotes – any of the semantic structures that distinguish a “document” from a meaningless heap of letters, shapes and colors. PDF is fundamentally about how the document appears on the page, not how it looks when abstracted from the page."

Export PDF converts filled PDF form without the data - Turns filled PDF form onto blank Word doc. Is there a solution to this or did Adobe just sell me a service that doesn't work?

ExportPDF is not for forms. In general, converting forms to Word is a really, really bad idea which can even cause legal problems. Work with the form as a PDF. Acrobat (not Reader) can export form data as simple text for example.

  • Convert Color PDF to Grayscale using Preflight in Acrobat 9 Pro

Has anyone posted a step-by-step procedure to convert color PDFs to grayscale? I've unsuccessfully been trying to use the new Preflight dialog to do this. This is the procedure I tried:
    1) In the Preflight dialog, Create New Preflight Fixup.
    2) Fixup Category: Color Spaces, Spot Colors, Inks. For Type of Fixup: Convert Colors.
    3) In the Conversion settings tab, chose All Objects, Using Any Color (except spot colors), plus All Objects, Using Spot colors(s).
    4) For Destination, I chose a grayscale destination Dot Gain 25%.
    5) After clicking OK, I selected the new profile and clicked on the Fix button, and saved the file.
Nothing happens, and the colors don't change.
If anyone can explain what I'm missing, I would greatly appreciate it.

Refer to Acrobat 9 Help PDF (installed with Acrobat 9 is installed).
Review the  discussion for Exporting PDFs in Chapter 5 of this Help PDF.
The PDF is also available on Adobe's site.

  • Page background disappears for a moment on page turn in pdf

In indesign my document has a gradient page background (created in indesign) on the master page to make it look like a book. But when the page is turned in pdf, the background disappears for a moment, leaving the page white, then the background appears again; it does this nearly every time page is turned, flashing white. Does this have to do with pdf or indesign layers? I have only 1 layer in the indesign document, and transparency blend space is set to rgb.

Everytime you change the page Acrobat needs to redraw all of the page elements. The dealy is probably a reflection of the amount off video memory available, as much as anything.

  • Acrobat 9.31 / Browser Plugin - Printing Color PDF as Black and White?

I have an interesting issue for the masses. For a couple of our users (it encompasses both Windows XP x64 and Windows 7 x64), they are having an issue where when they attempt to print a PDF directly from Acrobat's browser plugin (in this case, IE8 is the browser), and attempt to print a color PDF to a color printer, the PDF comes out in black and white.
    Here's some other consistents:
    * Printing to a network printer, using the print driver Canon C5180-H1 Ver.2.0JM. The problem spans across two different print servers (we use a different one for XP clients and 7 clients, but the driver is the same)
    * When the user clicks on "Print As Image", it does work (but doesn't look quite as good)
    * When the user saves the PDF to a file and then opens it in the full Acrobat 9 Pro application, it does work (but this is a bit annoying)
Can anyone suggest some other things I should check and/or reasons that this might be happening? I'm at a total loss to explain it but will happily accept suggestions on ways to fix it.
    Thanks!

Following up to see if anyone has some solid ideas on how this might be happening.
    Thanks!

  • Covert color pdf to a black & white

Does anyone know how to convert a color pdf into black and white? We're having some space issues on our server and have some documents that were scanned in color that we would like to convert to black and white to reduce the file size. I am using Adobe 8 Standard. I've tried printing the document to the Acrobat Distiller and choosing black and white in the print options, but it still prints it in color.

Have you done a search of the forum? There have been a few topics on this in the last few weeks.
There are options in PDF Optimize that some have tried to use and there is also an option under TOOLS>Print Production that has some options along this manner.
I have found that the conversion to B&W does not always seem to work as you have found. These other options might help. Bill
