Turn mp3 into garageband format?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering, is it possible to take one of your mp3 files and "import" it to garageband thereby making it so you can remix it? All the tracks would be separated and you could add them to your loops?
I hope i am explaining that right. I am new to this so please bear with me.
If this is possible to do, could someone explain how it would be done?
Thanks in advance

can you break the song up and create your own homeade loops?
Yes, once you make it a purple region

  • How do you bring a mp3 into garageband ?

im trying to bring in beats and other mp3 clips into garageband from my itunes but the dragging and dropping does not work. how do you do it !!?? please help  /FYI: im using a 15inch mac book pro OSX 10.8.2

    Two ways to do that:
Drag the mp3-song to the Desktop and from there into the time line in GarageBand.
Use the Media Browser in GarageBand to select the song in iTunes and drag it from the Media Browser into the timeline in GarageBand.
click the iTunes icon to open the Media Browser.

  • Turn MP3s into a podcast

i have a collection of mp3 files that i would like to turn into a podcast collection.
how can i turn these into a podcast so that they show up in the postcast section of itunes ?
the podcast will be for my own use (ie not to be published anywhere else)

If you mean actually publishing them:
    1. Post the MP3 files onto a server.
    2. Write an XML file which refers to these files and submit it to the iTunes Music Store.
For details on how to do this please see this page:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html
You say 'for your own use' but of course the podcast, once accepted into the iTunes Store, will be available to anyone.
(If you mean purely locally, you can't copy files into the 'Podcasts' section of your own iTunes program - you could just add them to the music library and then create a playlist containing them.)

  • WHEN I PUT AN MP3 INTO GARAGEBAND TO USE AS A SAMPLE THE SAMPLE CHANGES WHEN I SAVE AND COME BACK TO THE PROJECT, HELP!

I am using An MP4 that I turned into an Mp3 as a sample on a song.   When I try to use the middle part of the file it just changes to another part of the track.  When I save the project and come back to it the sample is completely different than when I saved it. HELP!

I believe you have to do Get Info on the file through the Finder (not thru iTunes...search for the track in the music folder on your hard drive) and you should see a toggle arrow for Ownership and Permissions. See if it says Read and Write.

  • MP3 TRACK WON'T CONVERT INTO GARAGEBAND

i'm having issues with importing some mp3 files into garageband. when i drag the mp3 from itunes a window will pop up stating that it is importing the song, but that's it, you don't see the track.
but some mp3's will import and then another window will pop up stating that it is now converting the track and i do get a track.
my question is why do some convert and some don't?
also the ones that do convert take about 2-3 minutes to actually convert.
    null

First off, why convert from one lossy format to another lossy format? You will not gain anything, if fact you will loose some audio quality, although whether or not you can hear the loss depends one your hearing and on the system you use for playback.
If you want to have it use bookmarks, you can open up its Get Info box and check off "Remember playback position" under Options.
Out of curiosity, what size is the mp3 file? It must be fairly large if the playback time is 8 1/2 hours.

Save the file from Gmail onto your computer and add it to iTunes.  How you save from Gmail is a Gmail question (their own support pages), not an iTunes question.

  • HT1351 I've encoded a vinyl LP record into digital format and recorded it onto an usb as MP3 file. But when I tried to copy it onto my ipod classic, I get a message stating "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod". Why?

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

I have a 7 minute MP3 that I want to edit, however when I drag it into garageband it only pulls in the first 3:30.  Any thoughts on why?  At the 3:30 mark in the song there is a pause but then it starts back up but for some reason the program won't pull in the part of the song beyond the pause.   Thanks!

    Hello npatel1207,
You may need to increase the duration of the project.

  • My mp3 files aren't dragging into garageband?

I've been using Garageband to edit my podcast for over 2 years. All of a sudden, I drag my mp3 into the track window and though it appears to be loading it, and the named track shows up for a second, when it's done "loading" there is nothing in the track. I've tried dragging from my desktop, from iTunes, from my digital recorder, and from within Garageband itself. I'm under a deadline to publish this episode...anyone know what's up with this? Thank you!

  • Can't Import audio files into Garageband (MP3's, Aiff's). Lion OS. PLEASE HELP!!

Everything is lower case. I dragged a file from the finder, it shows the plus sign, and say's it's converting, and it adds a new track, but nothing shows up... Dragging from itunes does even less -doesn't even show a plus sign or convert at all... I recently upgraded to Lion, and also upgraded to Garageband 11, though I never tried this with Garageband in the past.  Please help. It's sorta urgent.
    THANKS!!!!

When you open GarageBand the image on the far right is selected to the "i" button.
Select the Media Button on the right
Select iTunes it should open your entire music library.  Dang and drop any song into GarageBand.  Kinda lame that Lion wont let you drang and drop from iTunes anymore, but this seems to work just as well.

  • Converting an MP3 to WAV -- How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit

How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit, 44,1 khz? I like the program Switch which I know can convert MP3s, but how to I set it up for the specific settings that I need?

Just import into a logic session. Then bounce at the specs you require. Logic or Waveburner, iTunes and even Quicktime I think can each do this easily.
A question though. I am assuming you are converting an MP3 to 44.1/16 bit just so you can play the file in a consumer quality CD player?? IF so - that makes sense.
But if you are doing this because you think it will improve the sound quality of your MP3, I will save you some time here. It won't improve the sound quality at all. It will just turn the MP3 into a larger audio file.
44.1/16 bit resolution enables you to have a much better sounding file than MP3 formats, but not by going at it this way.
No offense to you if you know all of this already. I am assuming that you may not know this - because if you did you would also likely know how to convert an audio file.
    Cheers
