How do I turn off notifications for Software Updates?
In the 'Notifications' section of the 'System Preferences' app, there is no tab for managing the notifications of System Updates nor App Store.
Hey--- I like auto-checking for updates, and hey--- I like auto-downloading them in the background.
BUT I do not like being notified of updates in the middle of working! Especially when it's iTunes updates. Grrrr.
Any chance this is easy and I just missed it?

  • Will apps still get updated automatically if I turn off push notifications for the App store?

I like that my apps currently get updated automatically, but I don't really want to see it.  If I turn off all alerts/notifications for it, in Settings  > Notification Center, will the automatic updates still happen?

To answer the question:  Yes, the App Store will continue auto-updating all apps, even if you turn off all notifications/alerts for the App Store, and move it down to the "DO NOT INCLUDE" section in Settings > Notification Center

  • I cannot turn off the system update notification for my G2? I have already tried turning it off in Settings (under Applications Manager). What else can I try? Thanks

    Dear All,
I have tried turning off the system update notifications for my G2 and have not been successful so far. I have already tried turning it off via Settings/Application Manager/All. What else can I try here? Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jeffrey Wong

Unfortunately that is not possible any longer. My advice is to take the update.  You'll have to at some point or either you'll accidentally accept it.  The HD voice and video works well between compatible phones. And, if you run into a problem, better now than later.

  • I am asked to turn off Safari(v7) for the Flash Update even when Safari is not on.

I have tried many times to install the Flash update on my MAC (OS X 10.9).  It asks me to close Safari to finish, even when Safari is not on.  I even restarted the computer, never opened Safari and it still asked me to close Safari.

If you use MenuTab (Facebook plugin), it will give a false "open" for Safari. It sets as a Login item by default when installed so rebooting won't help.
    Applications/Utiltites>Activity Monitor.
Terminate MenuTab, and proceed with the nstallation.

  • G5 is stuck.  After a Safari update, couldn't turn it off or "re-start".

After downloading an update for Safari, it requires a re-start. Wouldn't do it -- ie, couldn't turn off the iMac or drag down to "restart"... so, I unplugged it and waited. No luck -- tried all the normal small things, then saw on System Preferences a place to click on restart from "start-up disk" ---but, it had a question mark on it -- did it anyway and now it's WORSE - A small world icon in a square in the middle of the screen blinking as I turn it back on -- nothing else.... just that!!!

    HI,
Unfortunately, it sounds like the startup disk is failing or has failed. Try booting from your install disc.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

  • Safari 4.0.3: "un-update" or locate "turn features off" buttons?

Pardon me if I'm a bit confused; this is the first forum I've visited that seems to prefer new threads to posting in related threads. I think.
Short version: I got the "updates available" message a couple weeks ago, and I updated. I now have Safari 4.0.3 and I hate it. I mean I really hate it. This is really disappointing for me, as Safari was the first ever pack-in browser that I really loved.
I have many issues with it, one of which (with the help of a thread here I stumbled across) I have semi-resolved, but am still not completely happy.
So I would like to know if anyone can tell me one of two things:
How to "undo" an update and go from something I loathe as much as Explorer and back to something I adored.
    Or
How to "turn off" the following irritants:
the "Top Sites" feature. This is just irritating. I use my computer at home for research. When I have pulled the information I need, I will only rarely ever need to revisit a paper. Though it's nice to know (for example, when researching STDs, that I always had on tap a large number of pictures of dripping groins, available even when the kids are playing games on Nickelodeon (ask me how I know this). Further, my computer at work is a shared computer, used by myself and four salesmen. This feature has resulted essentially in the salesmen all giving away to each other their "secret sources" for various materials. Since they're all on commission, this has resulted in a great deal of conflict there. Gotta love that.
Yes; I am well aware that I can "clear history" when I'm done with the net. The problem is that I don't want to clear the history from my home computer; it's something the kids can't just stumble across, and it is handy while I'm writing a paper, since it contains every site I've visited since the last clear.
The "page through" view for Bookmarks. Since there are no pictures that go with most of my Bookmarks when I'm writing research papers, I find myself scrolling through an endless procession of little black record albums, all with the Safari compass logo. Boy Howdy, now that's way better than a screen-filling list I could take in at a glance, yeah, Man....
I don't know what it's called, but that irritating "second layer" that spends sixty seconds or so generating a preview of something every time I mouse over an attachment thumbnail. 1: I don't always want to look at it. 2: it's faster to simply click it and open it in a new window or tab than it is to wait on this feature 3: opening it in a new tab doesn't completely stop me from browsing the rest of the page.
Actually, at this very moment, the "updates available" icon is bouncing on my dock, and I'm not going to click it until I see some reports of what the update is and what it does and how adversely it has affected folks.

Thanks for the reply, Golden Shoes.
I can't say that 4 is faster than what I had. I had a major speed issue with it, but I found advice about changing the numbers in the DNS servers blanks, etc, and did that. Sort of. I've only got room to enter one number; no way to enter both. But it did help, and the loading speed is almost up to what it was pre-update. While it's still a bit slower, I can live with it where it is now.
As for the Cover Flow advice:
Will that remove cover flow as an option completely? It's not that I don't like Cover Flow; I love it for perusing graphic files, etc. However, for running through my Bookmarks, it's horribly inappropriate.
I really don't want to use the Top Sites feature, however. I strongly dislike it, and am surprised to see that there is no option short of recoding to turn it off. I don't wish to sound like someone trying to make a sarcastic point with this next question, because I am being very serious:
Have a made a big mistake buying a Mac? I do not know how to read, write, or edit code, nor do I feel particularly comfortable that I could learn to do such a thing. Is there commonly a need to work directly with the code when "tuning" a Mac?
Just so you will have some background:
At work, we went to aluminum iMacs because the entire company was so disgusted with Vista that even the Board agreed we'd come out with less expense and lost hours swapping systems entirely as opposed to coping with Vista. I liked the iMac I was using at work so much that I bought one to replace my XP box.
But I am not by any stretch of the imagination more than just a "user." If changing code is the norm (as opposed to Preference or Finder toggles), I may have made a very expensive mistake.
Sorry for the digression; frustration coming out, I suppose. Ha!
If it's not too much trouble, can you clarify the results of pasting in the command you suggested? Will it completely disable the Cover Flow feature, or will it simply turn it off in relation to Bookmarks?
Will it completely disable the Top Sites feature?
And-- embarrassingly enough-- what is Terminal? Where do I find it?
Looking at the updates doesn't help. I "looked" at the last one. It said "Safari 4.0.3." There was nothing there to indicate "makes this and this mandatory and slows browser to a crawl."
This update similarly gives a name and series number, but nothing that would indicate if it's something I do or don't want (like Safari 4.0.3: it seemed like something good, but it's a long list of non-undoable "do not want" 'features.' ).
Is there anything that can be done about the mousing over a thumbnail automatically knocks you out of browsing to open up a representation of the file contents?
Thanks for the time and the advice. I apologize for knowing ... well, absolutely nothing.

  • How do I turn off Safari Notifications?

Can someone please help me!? Ive been working on downloading Adobe creative suite, and everytime it tries to download Acrobat XI it says that I need to close Safari Notificati even after I have set the settings to not disturb. Anyone know how to make my life easier?

Hi, if you open go to utilities and open activity monitor you can then search the items, double click on Safari Notifications, this will cause a pop-up window to come-up. Click force quite to turn off Safari Notifications. You can now download Apps from Adobe.
    Hope this helps.
I also found two lines of code that will turn on and off notifications. If you do not want screen notification to run go to Utilities > Terminal> and input code:
    launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist
    To turn on again code:
    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist
Cannot take the credit for the code etc. Found it by searching.

    Hi again,
I have lost count of the number of posts here, in addition to my direct experience with my clients, where FileVault is discovered to be the main cause of whatever symptoms are being experienced. I refuse to turn it on on any of my systems and will always, always advise against turning it on to anyone who asks me.
I would recommend that you initially back up all your data to external media (either external hd or DVD-R) and then attempt to turn off FileVault. I purposely used the word attempt because, more often than not, even this can cause issues. If you are unable to turn FileVault off, indeed even if successful, I would recommend that you carry out an Erase and Install using your MacBook Pro's system disks.
In short, my message is ---- stay away from FileVault.
If you require to protect your files then the best way to achieve this is via Disk Utility and creating an encryted image. More details here:

  • Can't turn off twitter text in iphone4s. Tried settings, notifications, twitter is not an app there. Also tried settings, sounds, tweet, none, and still won't turn off notification for twitter texts.

Can't turn off twitter text notifications.  I tried settings, notifications, but the notification center doesn't have the twitter option.  I also tried settings, sounds, tweet, none- for alert tones.  This is still not turning it off.  Twitter people said it's not their problem.  Is anyone having this problem?

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • After recent update to airport on iMac, the wifi connection is lost when it goes to sleep and requires turning off wifi and turning it on to reestablish contact.

After recent update to OS on iMac, communication to airport is lost when computer goes to sleep.  To reestablish connection, I need to turn wifi off then on.

    same problem here.
    i have a time capsule.
    symptoms:
    excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar
airport utility is a complete waste of time
old airport utility is still better.

  • Since updating to ios6 game center keeps popping up everytime i go to play a game. how can i turn this off. I have already set notifications to off

    Hi all,
Since I updated my iPhone4 to IOS6 I keep getting game center popping up evertime I open a game. I am not interested in signing in as I am only playing for fun.
I have turned off notifications in the setting menu, but it still keeps popping up.
Is there any way of stopping this?

I'm pretty sure this is an Apple thing and you can't do anything about it. To get rid of the notification just do as it asks then try to forget about it.

  • Turn off update notifications

I am sick and tired of getting the popup notifications that I need to go update something on the OS. There are updates that I do NOT want, I can manage updating my system without having to continously move the pop up out of the way, and every day having to suspend them for 1 day. I want to suspend them for 1 week, not 1 day.

guess this did NOT show up as a reply to the particular comment for which  i clicked the "reply" link; so editing to explain.
this was in reply to HW's reply to suggestion about going to software update.
    ========================
assume this is no longer an issue. just had to figure out how to turn this off myself. but think u misunderstood the suggestion above your comment. he did NOT say to go to the notifcation center (since app store is NOT there). he said to go to SOFTWARE UPDATE in System Prefs. The fix is supposed to be to turn off automatic updates. apparently that pref controls OS updates, as well as App Store updates. i am waiting to confirm that this has, indeed, removed those annoying notifications!

How do I turn that off?

    you don't turn it off.
