Turn of the sleep option

Can i turn of the sleep option when i close the display?
i want to keep running mi itunes after i close the display completely

Welcome to Apple Discussions
The machine is automatically programmed to go to sleep mode when the lid is shut. If it were left on with the lid close, I believe the heat build-up would create internal problems.

  • My iphone no service when i turn off the 3g option why!?!?

well sometimes i just use my data and turn on the 3g option but when the data is off i just turn off the 3g and its said no service why?? (sorry ,my english im from panama so well )

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Why does my Mac Mail programme keep turning on the SSL option?

For a couple of years now my wife's Mac Mail programme has from time to time stopped getting most of the emails sent to it for a week or more. I've wasted many hours on the phone to our service provider without ever getting to the bottom of the problem. Now I believe I know what's been happening. It seems that her Mail preferences keep turning on the SSL option without any human involvement. Apparently emails sent to an SSL selected email address will only make it into her in-box if they come from an SSL selected mail programme. Yesterday, scratching my head as to why, once again, few emails were getting through, I once again looked at the preferences and noticed that the SSL option, which I had recently unchecked, was once again checked. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. And so on, for ten minutes when, suddenly, it remained unchecked.
Why is this happening? My wife never, and I mean never fiddles with settings on her computer and nobody else uses it. The checking of the SSL option is being done entirely at the behest of the machine itself. Can anybody tell me how this could be happening? And could anybody tell me how I can stop it from happening again?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Can anyone please tell me how to stop email previews from appearing on my screen. I have turned off the preview option in settings on both my ipad and iphone, but they still keep appearing.  Thanks

Can anyone please tell me how to stop email previews from appearing on my screen. I have turned off the preview option in settings on both my ipad and iphone, but they still keep appearing.  Thanks

works ok on mine - (5, 7.1.1).  Try again.  with previews set to none, mine shows the sender and the subject line only.  (you cannot get rid of the subject)    with the other settings, you get the sender, subject line and however many lines you selected.

Apple released an update a while back to control the brightness of the sleep indicator, but it was only for certain G5 models. Quick perusal of apple support didn't turn up anything. Coworker swears that the brightness is controlled by the ambient light sensor, but I certainly can't tell the difference in a bright vs dark room...

    HI,
Go into the setup menu from the display of the unit and find prefferances. In there is the option called "energy save mode". You should be able to turn it off there.

  • Iphone 4 shows keep showing 3G even though i turn off the 3G option

Hey everyone... need some help and direction here...
it bothers me a lot, for several times my iphone 4 keep showing 3G even though i turn the 3G option off. This always happen especially when am home, first it looks normal, it shows edge but after several minutes it changes to 3G again and again. i noticed that this thing happened since i upgrade to iOS 5.
is there anyone here that experiencing the same problem? because i've tried to restore it three times, but nothing changed... thank you for any comments and help..

Siri does not exist on the iPhone 4, only the iPhone 4S and later have Siri.
I used the Chat feature in the Contact Us section of the Apple website to try and get some support direct from Apple.
I discussed the lack of menu options, and provided screenshots. The response came back that it was, and I quote, "super strange" for this to be happening. Yet there are plenty of people reporting this problem on this forum.
The support person took me through a hard reboot (power button + home button until it restarts). That did not work, and I was then advised to back up the iPhone with iTunes, and then do a restore.
I did this, it downloaded about 1.2GB of data which I presume was a full, new image of iOS 7.1 (as opposed to the 'upgrade' that had been applied before), and proceeded to load it onto the device.
The issue still persists, attached are screenshots of my Settings > Passcode menu.

  • Can you turn off the Sleep/Wake "click" noise on an iPhone 5C?

Is there a way to turn off or change the "click" noise when activating the sleep mode on an iPhone 5C as it can be distracting and/or annoying?
I am running the current iOS (8.1.3) and iTunes.

Yes. It's under Settings/Sounds/Lock Sounds (you'll have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to see the setting). Disable/turn off "Lock Sounds" and you should be all set.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.
The flat fee for a battery exchange is, I believe, $99.00 USD.

  • I can't turn off the shuffle option!

I have an iPhone 4 and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it stop shuffling the songs!!

You have to have a song in queue (either playing or paused) and tap the screen to bring up the scrubber bar.  To the bottom-right of the bar you'll see two criss-cross arrows -- if they're blue that means Shuffle is ON.  Tap them to turn Shuffle OFF (white).

  • Timer option changed to 'Stop Playing' from 'Sleep iphone'. Any idea on how to get the Sleep ipone.

In the iPhone 4S under the Timer, for the Option, When 'Timer Ends' it used to be a 'Sleep iphone'. After the iOS 5.1 update, I think, it is now changed to 'Stop Playing', which only stops the Music. Any idea how to - put the phone to Sleep mode.

    Thanks again Norman.
I desperately set about checking the option you provided, but good to know that you have noticed the same thing.
Yes we might need to wait for the update from Apple, but I am not sure how will this be noticed and acted upon.
The sleep option was very good to have, because it took care of the other apps for streaming music etc, and would stop all of them. Would you suggest anyway of raising it to the Support people?

  • No Sleep Option in Windows 7

I just got a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and bootcamped it with Windows 7 Professional.  After running windows update, there were some issues with the keyboard and there was no sleep option in the power management settings.
I repaired the bootcamp drivers from the DVD I had burned and that fixed both problems.
After that I started having problems where the computer wouldn't wake from sleep.  Sometimes it would make noice and the capslock light would go on and off, but the only way to get the display to turn on was to plug in an external display or turn off the computer.
Most of the time the computer wouldn't sleep at all and would just shut down.  When restarting windows, I would be offered the option to start in safe mode and after logging in, I had a message that windows had not been properly shut down.
Today, after booting into windows, I no longer had the sleep option in the shutdown menu or power management.  I tried running the repair from my bootcamp drivers DVD again, but it didn't restore the sleep option.
I'm guessing this is a driver or firmware problem.  Has anyone managed to fix it?

I just found this post in a post related to the Thunderbolt ethernet adapter.
"I successfully installed the driver in Window 7 per Benjamin C's instructions. Yes the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter does work in Windows 7 Boot Camp, however the SLEEP MODE is disabled after installing the driver. (I am using MacBookPro-Retina)
Somehow Windows complains that the firmware does not support (S3) Sleep mode.
It's unreasonable for a notebook not to be able to quickly go into sleep mode and wake up from it. Hibernate just takes too long.
Apple, please respond to this issue."
I am currently using the Thunderbolt adapter and I am curious if that is the cause. I will have to try to disable the driver that I installed for it to see if it corrects the issue. However, I need the adapter, so I am not sure exactly how to deal with this...
