Turn off 5Ghz channel?

Have the latest TC but downloading files and viewing videos much slower on 5Ghz than 2.4.  Is there a way to turn off the 5Ghz channel?  if not, my MBP automatically connects to the 5Ghz channel. Is there a way to make the 2.4Ghz the default channel the laptop connects to?.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilties > AirPort Utility 6.0
Click Edit
Click on the Wireless tab
Click Wireless Options
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Name and this will automatically add "5 GHz" to the current wireless network name that you use.
Click Save and the Airport will restart with the new settings in place
Your devices will now connect to the 2.4 GHz band
If you want to connect to the 5 GHz band in the future, you will need to "point" your computer at that network

  • Is it possible to turn off a channel in DAQ?

I am using 4*PXI-6070E to acquire 64 channels simultanously. Is it possible to turn off one or several channels during acquisition? Which function or property node should I use? I have tried using property node "disable" in waveform graph but it seems didn't work. That channel is still running and the data is still here. Can anyone help me plz? THX a lot!

Once a set of channels are configured in a task and being acquired, you cannot reconfigure the task (add/remove channels) without stopping the running task
What you could do is to: Use array functions ( like index array) to create a subset of channels you require, from the set of channels being acquired

  • Turning off right channel in a quicktime movie

    Greetings,
I am scoring a film and I have been given new reels where the dialogue and source music is in the left channel, and the temp score is in the right channel. Is there any way to turn off the right channel in Logic when I am scoring the reel? I want to still be able to reference the temp track, but I would like it off while working. Thank you.
    Best,
    Adam

Yet another way is to route the interleaved stereo file you got by dragging the video into Logic from a stereo audio track to a mono bus. If you now pan the stereo track L you'll get dialogue only, centered, if you pan it R you'll get temp track only, centered.
If you make a copy of the audio track and pan the first one L, the second one R, you can mute or solo dialogue and temp music independently. Advantage is you don't have to bounce a separate split stereo file, so you'll have only one dialogue/temp music audio file in your drive.
    Good luck with the score!

  • Turn off 5Ghz? Possible?

    Hello all,
Considering the new iPhone 4 only works on 2.4Ghz networks (N wireless), I would like to 'turn off' the 5Ghz part of my AirPort.
In this article http://db.tidbits.com/article/10125 we can see all the options available to configure.
I would like to set up to g and n (on 2.4Ghz only). Is there an option that cover this for me?
    Thanks!

Welcome to the discussion area, rslora!
I would like to set up to g and n (on 2.4Ghz only). Is there an option that cover this for me?
Looking at the available options for Radio Mode, you can see that all of the choices are separated by a "-" (dash). The 5 GHz band is on the left of the dash and the 2.4 GHz band is on the right.
Sorry, it's not possible to turn off the 5 GHz band, or choose a "2.4 GHz only" band.

  • How can I turn off the "Channels" on Yahoo toolbar?

I turned the "channels" on just to try it, and I couldn't turn it off again.

Are you talking about an SSL connection to a Mail server?
If so, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and touch your Mail account name. Scroll the dialog box that appears for your account up and touch the Advanced button. Turn "Use SSL" OFF

  • Turning off Midi Channel on an audio track-possible?

I do not want to receive any midi data (it is causing the track to mute) from my Moog Little Phatty on the corresponding audio track I am recording to in Logic. I do not want to filter this midi message out as I'd still like to be able to record that information on the corresponding midi track.
I know if I deselect the audio track it will no longer respond to midi messages being sent from the Moog. What I'd really like however is to stop Logic from muting a selected track whenever cc# 9 is transmitted.
    Is this possible?

And, just curious... if you're recording the MIDI info anyhow, why not just record the MIDI track, and then export it to an audio file?
I like to capture the live performance of my external synths on an audio track. I record the midi information more as a back up/reference in case I want to tweak it later.
And I totally understand that. I guess I suggested it, as work around in the meantime.
Recording the MIDI, and then bouncing as audio, won't undermine the integrity of that approach, as long as you refrain from over-twaeking, BEFORE bouncing down the file!

  • Can I turn off 2.4Ghz completely on an AEX dual?

    Hi all,
Call me crazy, but I'd like to use my Extreme dual exclusively on 5Ghz, turn off 2.4Ghz and let my old ADSL wireless router take care of the 2.4Ghz devices (basically just an old laptop). I've got an N Express a maximum of 25 feet away - connected on 5Ghz, with clear line of sight, in a building with no other detectable 5Ghz networks (but quite a few 2.4Ghz) - and I'm maxing out at 3MB/s! (on the upside, when I tuck the Express away behind a bookshelf, the speed barely drops).
Am I correct in thinking that, given the Extreme has a maximum power output, running both bands would halve the power output on each? I've got wide channels enabled, and am using the PC Airport util (Macbook on its way...)
    Cheers!

Michael, Welcome to the discussion area!
Am I correct in thinking that, given the Extreme has a maximum power output, running both bands would halve the power output on each?
No. Each has a separate radio therefore the output power of one would not affect the output power of the other.

  • WRT600N Network Dropouts on 5Ghz Channel with WPA-2

I've got a WRT600N using WPA-2 Personal on the 5Ghz channel. Whenever I try to upload something from my machine to a NAS attached by ethernet to the device I lose the wireless connection. This doesn't happen if I turn encryption off, or if I'm uploading to something on the Net, only a device connected to the ethernet port. It doesn't matter whether I use zero config or Intel Proset. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's the NAS or any other device connected to ethernet port. The same problem happens with every variation of WPA. It's fine if I connect to the 2.4Ghz channel.
I've upgraded to the lastest firmware for the router (1.01.35 build 5) and NAS as well as the latest driver for the intel wireless card. I'm using all the default settings on all the devices.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening with WPA, other settings I could try, anything that might help.

I just used the download - this is on a Vista 32 machine but drivers are available for Vista 64 - http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=117523973773....
It's been running fine for the past few months although the router sometimes loses the 5GHz network and I have to restart it. We were away until yesterday and the WUSB600 has been dropping the wireless connection a few times.

  • HP Photosmart 7515 wireless printer reverts to Offline, won't print until turned off and on again.

All of the software is installed and it worked without any problem.  The problem appears to occur after the computer has gone into standby.  The only way I can get anything to print is to turn it off the printer and then turn it back on again.  The troubleshooter simply tells me that the printer appears to be off (which it isn't) and tells me to turn it on.  Is there any way to bring an offline printer back online without either rebooting the whole system or turning the printer off and on again? Needless to say, this is very annoying. I have never had this problem with any other printer.

CampValdez, did you ever solve your problem?  I'm having a similar problem with a Photosmart 7525.  I just returned a 7510 because of the same problem and now the 7525 won't work.  I've spent the better part of 3 days on the phone with HP tech support to no avail and I'm ready to take the 7525 back.  The software and printer have been reinstalled many times.  I've changed the printer IP to a static IP.  I've removed my Norton security software, I've tried to set it up on another computer, I've changed the channel on the router to channel 11 and nothing works for more than 10 minutes.  The blue light on the printer indicating that it is on the network always is steady blue.  I can get it to work by pressing the wireless symbol and then turning off the wireless and then turning it back on.  When it's working I can access the printer from my web browser with the printer's IP.  It seems once it goes to sleep, I cannot access the printer from the browser.  Touching the screen and waking up the printer does not restore the communication between the computer and the printer.  Since this problem persists with two printers and two different computers, I'm suspecting a router setting but I'm stumped.   If you find your solution, I bet it's the same problem I'm having.   It's unbelieveable that HP tech support seems clueless.  A search shows this is not an uncommon problem.

  • My airport doesn't manually shut down: airport icon is off, but activity monitor shows lots of packets still flowing. Its not my activity- all updates turned off. Virus?

I'm running a Macbook Pro circa 2007 with OSX 10.6.8 and Firefox 27.0.1, and just had a circumstance that really puzzled me. I have a Hughesnet satellite modem with wireless router that I connect to via the airport, and I use Little Snitch software in the demo mode so I know and have to approve which software can send info through the internet connection., but the demo mode had just timed out and terminated and within a half hour of that the computer fans started speeding up to max and the CPU got blazing hot (+200 degF).
Worried, I looked at the activity monitor and it was showing lots of internet activity even though I wasn't doing anything on the internet at the time, and I have all my software updates set to manual because otherwise they would use up my allotted daytime bandwidth and leave none for me. I'd already completed manual software updates during the nightly free time recently. Fearing my computer was hijacked & out of my control, I turned the airport off to terminate the internet connection, BUT IT DIDN'T TURN OFF, and though the indicator in the top right of the screen said it was off, packets were still streaming back & forth like crazy on the activity monitor, and the poor thing was still overheating. So I rebooted the computer, and when it came back up there was no internet activity, and things started cooling down, back to normal again.
Though I'm no techie, this seems to me like my computer has been hijacked by some virus that has taken control of the airport and is feeding me lies about the internet connection status, so that it can use my computer for sending out its own messages. Has anyone heard of a virus that prevents the airport from being turned off, and what should I do about it? I'm afraid to back up my data with my time machine, though its been months since that was done, for fear I'd overwrite a virus-free state of the time machine files with a virus laden one, but I also hate to do something to clean up the machine without backing up my files, and lose a bunch of data. Is there virus protection software that could surgically search out and remove only the virus from my machine and leave most everything else untouched?
    Any advice is welcome,
    Christina

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try Changing the Airport Channel
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • Macbook Pro - WiFi turns OFF and won't turn back ON

    Hello,
this is my first time posting something on this forum; I will be as detailed as possible. I bought a Macbook Pro back in 2011 and It came with Lion OS. Last year I upgraded it to Mavericks and so far it has been a nice experience. However, in the past week I have experienced a very strange and irrating problem with my macbook. While doing work all of the sudden the WiFi would turn off and lose all connection to the web. I attempted to turn it back ON by clicking on the wifi signal icon but something weird occured, it was still 'ON' according to my mac and the only option available was to actually turn it OFF, so i clicked on it and the icon would go empty with no curvy lines (i attached a picture). Then i clicked again on the icon to turn it back on, however, as was doomed to remain in this state cause no matter what I tried.. the wifi will remain off even after clicking on the 'turn wifi on' option multiple times. I tried going to the assist me option under network preferences and I obtained multiple results with no fix. I tried sending my mac to sleep though at first seemed to fix the problem.. the wifi inmediately went back to being off and wont catch a signal. The only thing that fixes this is a fresh restart which is annoying and unacceptable...this is really annoying and I need a solution asap because this problem is become very frequent (once every 2 hours)... any help will be appreciated it.
I attached 2 pictures and the console log when this happened.
    1. A picture of my assist me window before i sent it to sleep, shows the WiFi on the left with the 'Failed' (which confuses me). it also shows the wifi icon empty ( like it was off) but the computer shows as if it was on and would ask you to turn it off... weird?
A second picture after I sent my mac to sleep. Though it seems like there was no wifi signal available, the router was on and literally next to my mac...but my machine wont catch up the signal. (other devices were connected to the wifi and have no problem with it).
Here is the console log right before and after my this problem occured:

Thank you for your detailed troubleshooting attempts.  Very helpful.  Sorry, I cannot read "logs."  My eyes just glass over on those things.  Hopefully, a knowledgeable user will come along shortly to decipher for you.
I noticed from the pics that your location setting is "untitled."  Have you tried the "Automatic" setting?  Run the diagnostic test?  Results?
    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

Every time I log on, it comes up saying an upgrade is available. I click on it and it tells me to turn off my McAfee. I will not turn it off. There is a half of the firefox logo on the screen. I suspect this is a fake website and encouraging me to think that it is a legal website so I can download the upgrade. I won't do it. I visit your sites and it doesn't show as an upgrade to 5 beta. Can you please get back to me on this as soon as possible? Thank you very much.

It is possible that you are still on the beta update channel if you ever installed a Firefox 4 beta version or a release candidate.<br />
You can check that by looking at the pref <b>app.update.channel</b> on the about:config page.<br />
If the value of that pref is beta then it is better to download and install the latest Firefox 4.0.x release.

How do I turn off messages on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite?

    Hi,
    Open the Messages app.
Go to the Preferences item in the app's Menu.
Select the account pane in the Preferences.
Each active account should have a tick in the Enable this Account box.
    This can be unticked.
This will stop accounts logging in but will not stop the app Launching in certain circumstances.
First of all check the app is Quit before shutting down the computer.
The fact the app is open even if all windows are hidden can cause the app to restart when you Start up the computer.
Messages is a  Multiple window app and using the red button on the top left of a window only closes that window and does not Quit the app.
Also check the System Preferences > Users and Groups > your account > Login Items tab.
This will list items that are set to Start up when the computer does.
I have a couple of External Drive on other computers, some Anti Virus software and the common iTunes Helper plus an old version of TextExpander that will work if I launch the Preference Pane this way.

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps
