Turn off animation effects to prevent nausea?

I've spent an hour poking through the forums, but couldn't find this issue addressed (maybe I'm using the wrong keywords), anyway:
I just got an iPod Touch yesterday and while I love it in theory, in practice I can't use it for more than a few minutes without getting motion sickness from all the sliding and flipping when switching between screens and momentum scrolling. Is there a way to turn off these effects or reduce them? I would like to be able to use this device without wanting to vomit for hours afterward just because of interface animations.

Thanks for the responses (well, most of them -- I'm not getting drugged up because Apple can't design their operating system without "bling," heh).
It's not the finger brushing. I have a similar (unfortunate) reaction to modern computer games with moving 3D graphics (e.g. first-person shooters and those explore-your-surroundings type of games).
I have turned off the effects in apps like Stanza, but unfortunately just navigating the apps and reading my mail (unnecessary sliding pages) is barf-inducing.
Rats. I can scroll as long as I don't lift my finger so the momentum scrolling isn't engaged, but I'd really like to get rid of the sliding effects when switching between screens/home pages.

  • How do I turn off graphic effect of Open File dialog box?

There is a graphic effect in OSX 10.4.11 of a slot appearing in the top of the window of programs like Safari 4.1.3  and then an 'Open file..' dialog box emerges from the slot and warps downwards. This is almost guaranteed to crash my Mac!
Please, how can I turn off this effect?
    Thanks!

  • Turning off visual effects for performance purposes

I've recently started using a Mac. I've been a PC user all my life, so I'm unfamiliar with how my new machine works.
I'm going to be using this computer for audio recording, and with that, I want as much power out of my computer as I can get. I know with Windows, there are ways to turn off visual effects, like window shadows and things like that in order to save processing power for other things. Is there a way to strip down OS X in the same way?

back in the day (OS 7/8/9) you had what was called t he extension manager. when i would work in cubase i had an extension set that was stripped down - similar to what you are asking.
now things are different. OS X is very efficient.
the only thing you need to do is only run the apps you need to have open (don't have mail, internet, etc. running while recording)
there are 3rd party apps that will remove window shadows, etc. - but I don't think it is necessary.
Max out your ram, and only run the apps you need running and you should be fine.

  • Turn off animation replying to mail?

Is there a key combo when starting Mail that will supress this? I know I can do it with a write command in Terminal but I'd prefer a key combo instead. Thanks

  • Turn off animations in Mail

    Hi,
is there any way to turn off the animations when sending a mail in Mail?
    Any help is appreciated!

Your design and animations copy the gmail style. Why should i go with apple, if i like google. Than i probably will go with android. Your os6 mail design was more asketic but perfecly balanced.
Give option to return to os6, please.
I do not need another phone looking lije iphone.
Many people like me just do not have time and will to s.it in forums like this.
But there is no one that told me he likes os7 better than os6.
    Fairly.

  • Turn Off Animations in Mountain Lion Mail

Someone, please write a fix this. I need a thoroughbred, not a circus.
I write as many as 100 email messages a day. Everyday I check here and on MacUpdate to see if there is a fix for Mail to turn off the bouncing new message window. I can't take it anymore. Sometimes I foget to close my eyes and I'm seasick.
Following the bouncing ball for downloads isn't as bad as the bouncing and swooshing messages, but I could do without that too.
On the upside, my several years old iMac Intel is so fast I hardly know I've touched the keys before type appears on the screen.
Adding animations can't be necessary to speeding up the system, right?

Thank you. I'm afraid these are not bugs and hoping a user will write a fix.
I found the following string on another rmessage and put it into Terminal and hit return/enter , retarted mail, but nothing changed.
defaults write com.apple.Mail DisableReplyAnimations -bool YES

  • Layers turned off: any effect on render/preview times? large comp, need tips

I'm working with a very large resolution project, and looking for any tips related to speeding up preview/render times.
One question I have, are layers turned off still considered in the AE preview/render calculations in any way?
    thank you
    ML

The best way to work with such large stuff is to tile it up in pre-comps and then stitch it back together e.g. using parenting. that way areas completely outside the comp frame will not cause any rendering at all. If that's not possible because e.g. you get antialiasing issues at the seams, then it may help to temporally slice up your comp into segments by duplicating it as often as needed and then removing the parts from it that won't be visible in that segment. You can then reassemble the segments in a parent comp. This in particular helps with 3D comps and 2D comps with a lot of motion where e.g. motion blur calculations can considerably increase render times. It also helps with comps where you use certain third party effects like Particular, since they may still do their calculations even if stuff is not on screen.

  • Turn off 3D effects?

I'm used to using Mac OS X via X-Windows, rather than the GUI. But I need to use the GUI to profile with Shark (command-line Shark is too limited), and I'm having trouble, because my sight is not normal. Because I only have one eye, the 3D effects of Leopard are not helpful - they're just confusing. In particular, I'd like to turn off the shadows that windows cast on the desktop, and the 3D perspective effect of the Dock.
I've looked at Universal Accessibility, and my sight isn't so bad that it's helpful. I can use Leopard as it stands, with the screen resolution on this CRT display turned down fairly low to make things bigger, a large Dock and a plain-colour desktop. But the 3D effects are continuously annoying - immagine trying to do sound mixing when someone is drilling a few rooms away - and I can't find a way to turn them off in System Preferences.

You can download a program like Superdocker to turn off the 3D effect (among other things). It's at: http://www.ed-shiro.net/en/?page_id=3. Or, you can simply move the dock to the side of the screen instead of the bottom, it automatically turns to a 2D dock then (you can grab it and drag it or go to System Preferences | Dock).
I am not sure how to disable shadows in Leopard. Shadow Killer did so for Tiger, but it hasn't been updated for Leopard...yet. Here's the website so you can keep an eye on it for when they do: http://unsanity.com/haxies/shadowkiller

  • Turn off animation in Time Machine?

Does anyone know how to turn off the animation when browsing through files in time machine? I can not stand to look at it because it makes me nauseous. I am hoping there is a way where you can click the date or the window you want and it would instantly go there rather than watching all of the windows fly by. Thanks!

Any expertise you could offer on the subject, I would greatly appreciate.
Come here for advice instead of Best Buy.
If you are encrypting a drive that already has data on it, then it will take a long time. You can continue to use the drive, and even shut off your machine, but it will still take a long time. The best approach is to erase a new external drive immediately and encrypt it right away. Then the encryption will only take a few seconds.
Either way, once it is encrypted, it will work fine and be just as fast an an unencrypted drive. As long as you know the password to the drive, you can restore it to any machine. You can even store the password in iCloud Keychain if you want. I keep all of my drives encrypted. Then, even if someone steals the drive, they will never get the data.

  • Turn off optimistic locking to prevent ORA-20001

    Hi there,
Is it possible to turn-off optimistic locking for tabular forms generated by wizard?
    I am using APEX 2.2.0.
I am having ORA-20001 update errors, the only person who is using the form is me. I have read in this forum the solutions some of you have posted to resolve ora-20001 update or delete failures but they all do not work.
I have also read that a turn on and off future will be available in APEX 3.0
Do maybe know how I can turn-off the optimistic locking for my table.
    Regards
    RobH

I think that the checksum is calculated from the values in the editable fields (hidden or otherwise) when the query is done. If you disable a field later on then it is not included in the checksum for the multi-record update, so you'll get an error when you submit changes.
This isn't anything to do with whether fields are shown or not, but I've just encountered this problem and found there's nothing about it on the forums. Since your problem is also not on the forums I thought it might be the same thing.

  • Turn off the display but prevent sleep

    Hello,
I am new to the Mac OS system and am facing a difficulty.
I want to keep my macbook running through the night downloading the updates, however I want the display to be off. For this I have used apps like caffeine and no sleep and have also modified the system preferences. But still whenever I turn off my display, after some time the macbook goes to sleep and all my downloads and updates are paused.
Is there any workaround which allows me to turn off the display without letting the mac to go to sleep ??

Have you tried the energy saving setting that controls the hard drive sleep, and set it to Never?
Then it won't matter the minutes display is set to wait until sleep, so long as it's not also never.
If there is a problem with this not working, you may check into an SMC reset; or perhaps also
the NVRAM/PRAM, as one or both may be in control over some aspect of this (dys)function.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    •About NVRAM and PRAM
There may be other issues with the later versions Mavericks energy saver selections; in the
older systems the matter was refined and less a problem. Your mileage may vary.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I turn off auto effects to my clips when adding them to my timeline?

    Hi,
I'm using Premiere Elements 10. When I began my first project and added a clip to my timeline a dialogue box asked if I would like to automatically apply an effect (I can't remember which effect but it makes my clips semi-transparant). I accidently selected "yes" and now everytime I add a clip to my timeline, Premiere Elements 10 automatically applies this effect. I cannot find any option to turn this setting off.
    Please help!
I have started brand new projects and this setting is still in effect.

    Welcome to the forum.
Steve's instructions will Delete any added Effect. Note, however, that there ARE several Fixed Effects, that are part of your Clip: Opacity, Rotation, Motion>Scale and Motion>Position, and Volume, for any Clip with Audio. Those cannot be removed, as they are Fixed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
