Turn off annoying shortcuts

I have a Torch 9800, running BB 6 budle 292___ on Rogers Wireless
Is there a way to turn off some of the shortcuts that drive me crazy??
Some shortcuts like the alt-del in BBM to irreversably clear the entire message input field are annoying, but I can live with them. They come in handy very occasionally, but usually just result in me accidentally loosing a massive message I've just typed.
But other ones like when I'm using sms messages, trying to scroll backwards through the characters of messages previously sent immediately exits the message back to the main message menu... It's the most frustrating thing, because I want to get to a specific part of the message, for example if I want to copy it, I have to touch the exact correct place on the screen, instead of being able to get there with the track pad...

In the shortcut system preferences try clicking the + (bottom left), browse to select your application, type in the menu item you want, then make the shortcut Command-H. In typing the menu, if it is a submenu, just type the submenu. (So for File/Save As... put in Save As...).

Can i turn off the spacebar shortcut in the Finder. It is causing me difficulty while using keyboard shortcuts in CS5. If by mistake I tap the desktop to make Finder active, while still viewing an inacvtive window, the Finder automatically selects a folder on my desktop. The next time I hit the spacebar while mistakenly in the Finder, it springs the selected folder to the front. It's totally annoying. I talked to Apple Care and they have no solution.

Okay - just wanted to be sure!
You can test your preferences theory fairly easily.
Create a new user account. Log out of the current one and into the new one.
Make sure the folders/pictures spring forward when the space bar is depressed.
Go into the Finder Preferences and uncheck that box. Test to see if the folders still spring forward. You should not need to restart the computer.
If they do not, I can get you instructions for deleting/moving some preference files that might need to be trashed to fix this.

X31 backlight turns off annoyingly after a few seconds

Weird problem with my x31. Normally, everything is...well...normal.
But every once in a while, the LCD backlight will turn off after 3-10 seconds of keyboard/mouse inactivity. As long as I keep typing, the light will stay on. But if I pause to think, the backlight goes off and the only way to bring it back on is to hit F3 to "darken the screen" and then move the mouse around or hit a key.
It's like there's some sort of extreme power saving mode going on in the system.
It happens even at the boot screen or the BIOS editor...so this is some bit of hardware that has gotten confused. After a couple of hours, it goes away...but the system isn't much use when it's happening.
When the backlight is off, the LCD is still painting a picture -- I just need to shoot a powerful flashlight at the screen and all the pixels are being properly controlled. There's just no illumination.
Ideas? Is there some sort of software diagnostic that would knock some sense back into the backlight controller?

No, the backlight is the color it should be.
I turned off the power-saving mode for "auto-dim" -- but that is calibrated in minutes, and this is happening in seconds (not only that, but its erratic...sometimes 1 second, sometimes 10).
Just for fun I downloaded the latest version of the Power Management stuff (which was just updated a week ago) and ran a whole series of PCDoctor diagnostics on the hardware. Problem is gone for now...we'll see if that actually was the solution.

How do i turn off annoying features in safari

When I look for something by typing into the small window space at the top of a safari window, a drop down window appears with a bunch of icons from places where I have previously visited on the internet via safari.
I find this extremely annoying and unhelpful.

Remove Favorites dropdown.
Safari > Preferences > Search > Smart Search Field
Uncheck the box beside “Show Favorites”.

Turning Off Display Shortcut

Hello,
I was wondering if you can change the shortcut that turns your display off (shift-ctrl-eject)?...im using a remote program and the keyboard that is in that program does not have an eject key. If you cant change it is there any kind of work around or app that could turn the display off??

In Exposé, you can set up a hot corner to put the display to sleep. Set it up from System Preferences > Exposé and Spaces. Moving the mouse into the hot corner will put the display to sleep.

How do I turn off a shortcut that says "Open in Internet Explorer" and default back to FF

I use FF as my default browser. A few shortcuts work better in IE so I select the option to "Open in Internet Explorer" and this works fine. Now I would like to undo one of these shortcuts and have it open in FF per the original. I tried to delete the shortcut but any new FF shortcut to that website automatically opens in IE.
How do I cancel that original transfer to IE so it will again open in FF?

i am sorry for the previous post which was not well stated. Change the application in the Target field. It is on the left of the URL that you wish to open. You should have something like: 
“C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” http://url_you_want

Can I turn off annoying 'updating document' messages in Pages?

I've just replaced my original iPad with an iPad Air and have a problem with Pages on the new machine. Every minute or two, a message pops up telling me the document has been updated and moved to a folder where it has always been (where documents are not in a folder, the message says they have been renamed with the name the doc has always had). You have to tap 'OK' whenever the message comes up so it is a real break in the flow of writing. Moreover, sometimes the 'update' loses the last line or two you've written, or jumps to the top of the document - a bit irritating and disruptive when working on a 200-page novel manuscript. Can I switch these messages off? Or is there anything else I can do to get rid of them?

Update. It's getting ridiculous. At this rate I'm going to have to switch my iPad 1 back on and use that instead. I wrote an entire novel on that device, which got published by the way, with no problems at all. Pages is virtually unuseable thanks to these messages. I would appreciate a fix as a matter of urgency please.

How to turn off annoying ad sound/music on firefox whenever I open a website

Hello I was hoping that I could get help with ad music that play whenever I open a new webside. It happens if I want to open a new website after being on the previous website after about a minute. I identify the source, I believe thanks to internet download manager at: http://newlotto.pch.com/images/games/113/201408_progressive_daytime_package/sounds/lc_corkpop.mp3. I am no longer subscribed to publishers clearing house btw and I tried many solutions here such as the adblock and I did the trick, "about:config" & "plugins.click_to_play" And I also did an Anti-Malware scan with no such luck. The good new - if you can call it that is that it only happens whenever I used firefox and not my other browsers.
I hope I cane get a solution to this.

It is in Settings>iTunes & App Stores to change automatic downloads. But it isn't your device that needs to be changed if you are the one that made the download. He needs to turn off the setting for automatic downloads on his phone. I'm guessing here, but you are all sharing the same Apple ID?

How do i turn off the STUPID gestures? every time i quickly scroll a large page i get switched to previous sites i've been at, very, very annoying! i hate gestures!

i'm using firefox 4.0 on an amd cpu running suse linux 11.4. i've completely turned off the gestures in suse (one of the first things i do, i can move a mouse very quickly and i like it to be a mouse!), i can't find a plugin or setting to turn these damn things off. the main problem is when i use the scroll wheel to rapidly move up or down a long web page and wind up on another page suddenly, very, very annoying! i really, really HATE gestures! then again i know how to use buttons etc. and i do mouse very quickly and creatively ( i also turn off several other "conveniances" like automatic window resizing, i know how to manage windows.....) thanks, i really, really hate these "features" being on by default, people with certain disabilites are probably also highly annoyed by the lack of choice in some procucts.

You can set all the mousewheel.with*.action prefs to 0 to perform a scroll.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
If necessary then you can also set all the browser.gesture prefs to empty String values.
