Turn off authentication in mountain lion?

How do I turn off authentication in Mountain Lion?

That's the way it works. You keep your files in your user space, not in root's.
You can also use the /Users/Shared folder.

  • Turning off "authentication" in Mountain Lion.

I just migrated from my old MacBook Pro to a new retina display MacBook Pro and have Mountain Lion on each.  Even though I've gone into both Finder and System Preferences and tried to replicate everything in the new computer that was on the old computer - it seems that every time I try to do anything in my new computer - a window pops up asking me to authenticate the action with a password.  Once I type in my administrator password - I can perform the action (open a folder, save to a folder, empty trash, etc.) - but I'm trying to eliminate the need for a password each time.  How can I  eliminate the 'authentication' step? I didn't have this problem on my old MacBook Pro with the same operating system.

Follow the instructions in the Linc Davis post. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4196772

  • Turn Off Animations in Mountain Lion Mail

Someone, please write a fix this. I need a thoroughbred, not a circus.
I write as many as 100 email messages a day. Everyday I check here and on MacUpdate to see if there is a fix for Mail to turn off the bouncing new message window. I can't take it anymore. Sometimes I foget to close my eyes and I'm seasick.
Following the bouncing ball for downloads isn't as bad as the bouncing and swooshing messages, but I could do without that too.
On the upside, my several years old iMac Intel is so fast I hardly know I've touched the keys before type appears on the screen.
Adding animations can't be necessary to speeding up the system, right?

Thank you. I'm afraid these are not bugs and hoping a user will write a fix.
I found the following string on another rmessage and put it into Terminal and hit return/enter , retarted mail, but nothing changed.
defaults write com.apple.Mail DisableReplyAnimations -bool YES

how to turn on usernoted in mountain lion after i accidently turned it off?

Usernoted was continually crashing and eating up memory. I clicked on it in the activity monitor and it took me to a place where I could turn it off. Without thinking I did so. I think I turned it off in the console or the terminal. I don't remember exactly what was written. I just clicked  to allow it to be turned off. Since then I cannot upload anything to facebook directly from my imac or from safari when I use share. But iI still get facebook notifications in the notification center. I have restarted and even shut down and then restarted and also logged out and in and I still can't share.

  • Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro 13 in 2011 not turn off after upgrading to Lion?

I upgraded to Lion when it came out, but I tried to run a PowerPC only game and the entire system crashed. I was then prompted to reinstall lion, so I did so, but after reinstalling it, it doesn't completely turn off. I click powerdown and it goes to a gray screen where it looks as though it's loading something, but will just stay on this gray screen until the battery dies out. There is no responsed to clicking with the track pad, nor to keys. Any ideas?

Boot to the Lion Restore disk (hold down option key when rebooting) select Disk Utility and then Repair Disk.

  • Turning off Authentication

    Hi Everyone,
I have made an application for a department of the company i work for, the application only uses select statements and there is no chance of SQL injection at all. However, there are that many people in this department that it would be too time consuming to make individual accounts for them all. I have made a "guest" account, but I have been asked whether it is possible to turn off the authentication on this application. Therefor just allowing them access without having to use a username or password.
so my question is, could i turn off the authentication and how do i do that? and what would the repurcusions of this be?
    Thanks,
    -N.S.N.O.

    Hello,
    Open Door
Go to Shared Components / Authentication Schemes / Click Create / Select 'Based on a pre-configured scheme from the gallery' / Select 'No Authentication (using DAD)' / Give it a name like 'Open Door'.
Then select Change Current (on the Task List on the right side).
    That'll do.

  • Macbook Pro shutting off when closed - Mountain Lion

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and now my macbook pro shuts off instead of sleeps everytime i close the screen and needs to be re-booted when screen is re-opened. Any one had the same issue and any known fixes?

Check System Preferences --> Energy Saver and make sure you do not have the sleep sliders set to "Never".
This may pertain to either or both Battery and/or Power Adapter tabs in System Preferences.

  • How do i turn off auto complete in lion os

Can anyone tell me how I can turn off the autocomplete function in Lion OS. Whenever I finish typing a sentence it's made up all kinds of words I don't want!
I'm finding it rather frustrating so hopefully there's a simple solution.

Text replacement is controlled by each program.
Typically, look in the Edit menu for the program. In the Substitutions submenu is an item named "Text Replacement". Try unchecking that one.
You can also select the "Show Substitions" item in that same submenu. In the screen that then opens, click the "Text Preferences..." button. That will open the System Preferences panel for Langauge & Text, specifically the Text pane of that prefs. In that pane you can control exactly what is substituted for what.

  • Turn off treading feature in Lion Mail

Is it possible to turn off the threading feature in Lion Mail?  Threading messages from the same sender really messses up my work flow.
    Thanks.

Is there a way to make this the default?  It turns out that the "Organize by Conversation" is the default for every mailbox.  I'm surprised there is not an obvious way to set this in preferences....

  • Mac book wont turn on after installing Mountain Lion

I installed mountain lion on my macbook. Like other users my battery drained quickly for about two weeks. The my computer wouldn't turn on. I have taken it to apple and they inform me my logic board needs to be replaced. They assure me that I have done nothing wrong it just happens some time. After talking to other people at uni I have discovered they have had hardware problems like the earphone jacks not working after installing Moutain Lion and battery power draining. Has anyone else had these issues?

some of my friends have the battery issue. I suggested them to do clean install and it fixed for some..

  • I am running 10.6.8 on an iMac7,1 with 2.4GHz, 4Gb RAM.  Other than usual Apple apps, I also run Microsoft Office for Mac.  Am i better off upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks rather than trying to go to Yosemite ?  Thanks!

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an iMac 7,1 system with 2.4GHz processor and 4Gb RAM.   I also use Microsoft Office for Mac.
I am wondering whether i should upgrade to Yosemite or first go to Mountain Lion or Maverics to avoid sluggishness and other potential issues with using Yosemite on this iMac.

i had thought Snow Leopard was no longer supported hence my idea to upgrade.
It isn't being supported any longer.
If you haven't done this you might want to consider doing it for security.
