Turn off auto-fill when searching apps?

We bought my 10 year old a Touch for Christmas. Is there a way to disable the auto-fill when searching for an app? I started to type in "Security Software" and as soon as I got the "SE" entered, it started offering up things like "Free Sex Jokes" or "Sex Positions". Needless to say, not exactly what I would like my 10 year old to see, much less have access to. Anyone have a solution? Does this mean someone else has used this iPod before and it saved their search history (it was purchased as a brand new iPod from Toys R Us). Thanks!

It appears that the App store is just displaying itms that start with the characters entered so far and that is different than auto-fill. It is like Google instant search. To avoid the "nasty" words you mention, placing age restrictions on the App Store and other items might solve your problem. To set restrictions go to Setting>Genera>Restriction and set the restrictions you want. You apply a passcode to prevent unauthorized changing of the restrictions. It is covered n Chapter 19 of the Users Guide.

  • Turn Off Auto Fill in Photomerge Panorama?

How do you turn off the aut fill feature on Photomerge panoramas?  I'm working in Photoshop Elements 9.
    Thanks!

I would suggest if you don't want the Auto-Fill (clean edges) you hit the NO button on an image by image basis.
You can also check the Do Not Perform this Action and then click yes, but then you will have to reset the warning dialogs in
Edit>Preferences>General if you ever want to use the Clean Edges (content aware) again.

  • How do I turn off auto cap when editing a pages document on my iPad?

When I use Pages on my iPad and touch the screen to insert a new word it always starts in upper case as if a new sentence. It does this even if I am in the middle of a sentence. Can I turn this off?

I have some vague memory of people solving this problem by putting a piece of clear tape with an appropriate hole in it over the headset jack. But, it's only a very vague memory. You might try searching the forums for older entries.
I don't use Apple headsets (hate 'em) but don't have this problem. Depending on how attached you are to your current headset, you might want to experiment with others. I've used both the Shure E2c and Etymotic ER6i without any problem.

  • Address book: how do you turn off auto-fill?

Address book fills in with past info from existing cards in almost every field. This is surely the most unhelpful feature for a data base that typically has unique information in every field in every card. I cannot fathom how to turn it off. Help would be much appreciated.

    Sandy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I know that this is of little consolation to you, but the Tiger version of Address Book no longer has that annoying interface.
I know of no way to turn it off in Panther.

  • Way to Turn Off Auto Backup every time iPod Touch connected to computer?

Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Is there a way to Turn Off Auto Backup when one connects iPod Touch to computer?
Auto backup to have started ever since 3.0 update.
Sometimes I am just adding one track from iTunes to my iPod.
Don't want to go through the 15-20 min. backup process each and every time.
    1. I uncheck "Sync Applications," but the default seems to Check it each time I open iTunes.
    2. Under iTunes/Preferences - Under "Devices" - I checked "Disable Automatic Syncing."
    3. I always have Music, Movies, etc. unchecked under "Sync" as I prefer to Sync these manually.
So I am puzzled - why - when I plug in my iPod Touch, iTunes opens and automatically starts "backing up."

if you're familiar with the terminal, exit iTunes, open up a terminal window and type this:
"defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true" (without the qoutes)
and press return. That will disable the automatic backup, and you will NOT have a new backup if the device craps. Please remeber that.
To turn backup back on: exit iTunes, open up a terminal window and type this:
"defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false" (without the qoutes)
    and press return.
Now the backup is turned back on.

  • I have ios 7 and lately when im turning off cellular data for some apps when i leave settings and go back in they have turned on back again by themselves. It appears as if i cant turn off cellular data for the apps i want. Any tips?

I have ios 7 and lately when i go to settings-cellular and try to turn off cellular data for some apps it doesnt work. As i turn off cellular data for one app immideately after i exit settings and re-enter settings cellular data for that same app goes back on again by itself. That happens for most of my apps and is reqlly annoying. Whats more annoying is that when i am not using wifi even though the settings for cellular data for safari or facebook or some other app are turned on (since i cant turn them off as i mentioned) i get the message that cellular data is turned off for this app and i cant use the internet at all on cellular data. I have reset to factory settings and restored from backup and the problem persists. Is there some help or tips you can offer me?

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm considering wiping it and setting it up as a new device.

My iPhone 4 turns off (crashes) after accesing any apps, It work fine when plugged to charger (power supply). I tried all troubleshooting steps suggested by Apple but it doesn't work. I backed up my phone. I restored it several times. Even I re-installed iphone software. Also I restored it as a new iphone but doesn't work. What could be the problem and what are the availble solutions?

We can't know if there's a "fixture" because we can't examine your phone.  But Apple can.  Make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

  • Please tell me how to turn off auto renew in my itunes account for app subscriptions?

I see no option to turn off auto re-new in my account settings! all the app says is to avoid itunes account from being charged turn off auto re-new in account settings! ***! i do not see any option to do so!

If you subscribing to itunes match then you just need to turn it off.
Open the latest version of iTunes on your computer. You cannot subscribe to iTunes Match from an iOS device.
Choose Store > Turn OFF iTunes Match.
On the phone got to settings -itunes and app store- turn off itunes match.
If you are not subscribing to match, your questions does not really make sense to me and you may want to elaborate a bit, or maybe someone smarter then me will come alone.

  • Why does ipad dim after turning off auto dim

my ipad continues to dim slightly back and forth despite the fact i turned off auto dim, why?

Have you tried closing the scrabble app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the scrabble game 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the scrabble app to close it (you could also 'close' the apps that are in the taskbar), and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
A third option would then be to delete and re-install the app and see if that makes any difference

  • How do I turn off auto-numbering?

I want to turn off auto-numbering in iWeb. I tried doing it in the Inspector under Text/lists by selecting "none" but that didn't work. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Old Toad. I'll try it. While continuing to work the problem last night, I discovered if I hold down "shift" when I hit "return" to go to the next line, it suppresses numbering and I can do it myself, the old-fashioned way. I remember seeing that trick in another iWeb context in a Google search, but it appears to work on numbering, too.
Hey, if I want numbering, it's surely simple enough that I can do it myself, just like if I want to type the word "the"! I'm a touch typist, and I can fly when I get going, and any sort of "auto" function trips me out of the flow, actually making what I'm doing harder, not easier. The "shift-return" solution will also make it harder, until I get it down pat. Maybe one of these days the propellor beanies will bring in an actual user for a consult before they force such dubious improvements on the whole population. I'm sure there are folks who think this is cool, but that doesn't mean it's progress.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.
    Best,
    Steve

  • I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be back

I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)
