Turn off contacts

My Mac Apps to not handle contacts well and I have syncing problems too. On both my iphone and ipod if I turn off contacts in the icloud settings the wheel will turn until I turn the device off - then it will still show as "ON" when I turn it back on. I am not being impatient - I cn leave them all night plugged in the power and the wheel will still be turning in the morning. Short of resetting the device - again - anybody got a tip?

I am experiencing the same problem with both Ipad and iPhone, no problem with outlook and Mac.
I tried your sugestion but still having the same problems.
Thanks in advance.

my mom synced her iphone to iCloud, and she got my contacts and I got hers. I don't want her's!
If I turn contacts off in iCloud, will it delete my contacts I put in?

It will delete them from your device but not from iCloud.  Also, when you turn contacts off, you will get a prompt asking you if you want to keep them on your device.  If you choose Keep on My iDevice, a copy will stay on your device.  It will still include your mom's contacts though so you will need to go through and delete her contacts from your device afterwards.  Caution: be sure NOT to delete her contacts from your device before you turn off contact syncing with iCloud.  If you do, you will delete her contacts everywhere and they will be lost.

  • Unable to turn off contacts in the device icloud account

When I try to turn off contacts on my Iphone 4s, Iphone 4 and Ipad, the process just hangs.  I tried to turn if off because my contacts have disappeared off my devices.  Contacts on my Iphones appear intermittently and not at all on my Ipad.  Help!  This is not progress...

    Thanks .. Your feedback helped:)

  • Contacts Sync and Turning Off Contacts

    iPhone 5, latest iOS
iTunes and iPhone set for WiFi sync and both are logged into iCloud.
PROBLEM:  Changes to iPhone contacts never seem to sync.  When I attempt to turn off Contacts under iPhone, choosing to keep contacts on phone, I receive a message that it's "Turning Off Contacts ...".
This never goes away, and I have to for the Contacts app to quit.
Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
So, followed your suggestions.  First thing I noticed was that after deleting data from iPhone, contacts were still on my iPhone.  Not sure how to delete contacts all at once, so that's another question.
Second, I logged back in to iCloud after deleting the iCloud account as you recommended.  After doing so, I turned Contacts back on ... and it started ... and asked to Merge which I did.  No joy.
I did back up from MacBook Air Contacts app first, but it appears I am confused about iCloud and On My Mac.
I now show no iCloud contacts even though I've now reimported the backup contacts into my laptop's Contacts.
Unless iCloud is way way behind in syncing at the moment, I have nothing in iClould contacts now.

  • Turn off contacts in Screen Sharing

    Quick question,
I use screen sharing quite frequently, is there a way to disable names from my address book from showing in the Connect to window?

  • HT4901 How to turn off Contacts in iCloud on a PC?

I have a need to stop Contacts from comunicating with iCloud from my PC with windows 7 how can I do this without turning off any other app in iCloud

You can't just stop contacts syncing on your PC.  You would have to turn off iCloud syncing with your PC for mail, calendars and tasks too.

  • Turning off contact address auto-fill

Anyone know how to turn off the auto-fill for calendar entries?  Entering customer appointments into iCal for contacts in my address book takes forever when it has to predict who it might be.  Plus, if I select that particular contact, it won't show the address, only show "Tom's work" as the location.
    Thanx!

Tom .. No, I was just using google. Not http etc.
I really think that was enough last week. We messed with some of
the network settings lately in an attempt to set up ethernet connection
to old machine. I bet that is what changed things.
Yang .. I did what you said. No Joy! Thanks anyway.
How does this work for other tiger users?
Maybe I'm wrong about it working last week?
Typing .com every time isn't the end of the world. But
it would be nice if the Imac would do it.
    Later....Johnny

  • How do I turn off Contact Shortcuts in IOS 8?

When I double tap the home button, I see a list of recent calls I have made as well as contacts in my favorite list. I dislike this feature and want to turn it off.  I often use my phone where others can see and for privacy reason I do not want this list appearing.  How do I turn this off?

The following will turn it off:
Set Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Contacts - Show in App Switcher to Off

  • Is there any way to turn off Contacts' automatical formating of phone numbers?

Address Book's telephone fields used to be free text. You could format the phone number as desired and add comments if needed. Contacts automatically format phone number according to the ten-digit phone number (area code plus 7 digit number). If the content of a phone field does not conform to this format, the contents are all pushed together, removing any spaces that you may have entered.
In many countries that required formating is inappropriate. Besides, it limits your freedom to add important details, like "Do not call after 7PM," etc.
There seems no way to turn this automatical formating.

The format for South African numbers is wrong!
    Contacts uses: +27 (xx) yyyyyyy
Firstly the dialing code is no longer optional (for at least five years) so the brackets make no sense. Also, almost everyone uses the grouping of 3 digits then 4 digits - including official phone books.
Its should be +27 xx yyy zzzz
(I would also like the the auto-formatting to be optional as some other countries are crazy too).
Is posting something here enough to get the attention of developers?

  • I simply want to know how to turn off iCloud* without losing my contacts

Call me old fashioned, but I really do NOT want to use iCloud EXCEPT for ONE THING*: and that's to find my phone, ipad or laptop if it goes missing.
Having said that, I have figured out how to turn off icloud on my ipad and my iphone (I am not using the phone as a phone, just as a glorified ipod) while keeping the "find my ipad/iphone" function active, BUT
I can't quite figure out how to do it on my laptop.
I seem to have done it already for photos, and for the calendar, (I know this from checking iCloud to see what it's got) but just cannot figure out how to turn it off for contacts.
And YES, I've backed up all of those things at LEAST 3 different ways, I just don't want the Cloud to be one of them.
So can anyone tell me how to turn off contacts in the cloud without it also magically deleting them in my laptop? (I had it happen on the ipad, that's why I'm worried.)
Thank you for understanding-I'm older and this stuff just keeps getting more complicated and I'm a simple person. I'll back up my own stuff!

If you are refering to documents such as Pages and Numbers files....
The only way around this is to "save as" you icloud documents using the associated app to a local folder on your mac.  Then turn off icloud.
Of course, when you sign off of icloud, the docs are removed from the mac, but remain in icloud.  In the future when you sign back in, the documents are available to you again.
Oh, and the icloud documents are also stored locally in ...
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
You can move these files to another folder to save them.

  • How can I turn off sharing contacts?

My fiance and I have 1 iTunes account. I updated both of our phones, ipad and Mac with the new update. Now we are sharing contacts, we don't mind sharing everything else, but we want our contacts to be separate. Everytime I turn off the contacts, it deletes the entire contact list including my own. If I delete his contacts from my phone, they are also deleting on his phone as well. Is there a way around this?
    Alicia

    Alicia,
Go into the settings>icloud on the iPhone and select to turn off contacts it will ask you if you want to keep or delete the contacts select keep then you can edit the contacts on the iPhone.

  • Turning off iCloud contacts

If I am to turn off iCloud contacts from iphone4 will the contacts already in the cloud list be deleted
Also if I turn it off. When on iCloud on a pc will I be able to view the previous list if not deleted or will it just say that this particular part is not available?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you turn off contacts in your device, they will stay on iCloud and on other computers and devices, including the PC. You will still be able to see your contacts in your PC after turning off contacts, and you may only lose contacts on your phone, but iCloud will ask you if you want to keep or remove the contacts
