Turn off convert to sRGB in save for web CS4

Hello,
In CS3 I had the option of turning this off. In CS4 It's turned on and grayed out so I can't turn it off. See attached picture. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you. -chris

I do not know what caused this for you but it is still an option in CS 4 perhaps your setting folder corrupt.
So it is time to trash your preferences.

  • Activation of "Convert to sRGB" in "Save for Web"

    Hello,
I am using a script scaling and exporting my image via "Save for Web and Devices". When I open the menu there's a checkbox called "Convert to sRGB" - I want to activate that checkbox via Script, as then I get the wanted colour results. I already had a look at the guide PDFs, but I didn't found that option, not as part of the export options array, nor generally elsewhere in the PS scripting guide.
So here's my question: how can I activate that checkbox with script?
    Thank you
    Thomas

I believe the 'ColorSpaceType' of the Export options is what you need.
EDIT: Sorry, I may have misspoken, I was under the impression that was part of the Export Options, but it does not seem to be.

  • Save For Web Saturates Colors

    Hello,
I've dealt with this before and searched the internet for a solution/fix, but still have the problem of JPG images appearing over-saturated when viewing them in a web browser compared to the way they look in PS CS4 or in the windows "preview" application.
    Here's the workflow:
Work with an image in PS CS4 (Vista) with an assigned color profile of sRGB. Use the "save for web" dialog to create a JPG (with the "convert to sRGB" box checked). View the image in Windows by right-clicking and selecting "preview," and it looks fine (looks same as it does within PS). View the same image using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7, and it appears oversaturated (mosty too reddish) as compared to the original.
I've tried various permutations to the above (e.g., turning off "convert to sRGB") with no avail. However, if I convert to LAB color, and then save for web, the resulting image appears less saturated overall, even though it still appears more saturated as viewed in a web browser as compared to PS/Windows-preview.
Does anyone have any further suggestions to get the images to appear the same in a browser as they do in PS or in the Windows Photo Gallery (preview)?
    thanks,
    JP

What happens if you use save as? I believe that save for web does not save the color profile therefore firefox or IE might assume a different profile thus over saturated images. I have read someplace that firefox uses color profiles but I am not sure about IE.
Firefox is not colour managed by default. It has to be enabled by the user.

  • CS4 Save For Web GIF settings confusion

    Hi,
I am working on a new website and have run into a problem I just can't seem to solve: my navigation links are made using a GIF and for some reason the background color of the GIF is not matching the background color of the page.
    The test page is here:
    http://www.johnblaustein.com/webtest2/
Note that nothing in the page is working yet.  If you look closely, you will see that the navigation image is a slightly different color than the background.  Very slight, but different.  (Once I solve this color issue, I will make each link into a separate button with slices.)
In PS, I have created a file as follows:  new file (72dpi), fill background with the same color I use on the webpage: c4c0b4.  Create new layer and add the type.  The new file is in Adobe RGB, but I convert to sRGB before saving for web (although I don't think that matters).  When I Save For Web, I started with the default GIF settings, but when I got the color mismatch, I tried any number of other settings.  I read a post here that suggested turning off the background layer of the image before Save For Web, but that resulted in the text looking bad.  I've tried different color settings (32, 128), matte settings and other settings with no luck.  Convert to sRBG is always checked.
I like solving these things on my own, but I struck out on this one.  I am here in the hopes that one of you gurus can tell me what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks very much.
    John

    SUCCESS!
Curt.... you were correct.  I needed to create the new file in sRGB, not create the file in Adobe 1998 and then convert.
Here is another test, showing that the text box has completely disappeared:
    http://www.johnblaustein.com/webtest2/nav-srgb-test
The text box is exactly the same size as in the original page I posted.
    What I did is this:
Create new file to specified dimensions.  In the New File dialog, for Background Contents, I selected my webpage color, c4c0b4.  I clicked the Advanced arrow and selected sRGB as the color profile.  I added white text, then flattened the image.  In the Save For Web dialog, I clicked the Preset dropdown and selected GIF 128 Dithered and did not change any of those preset settings.  I inserted the new image into a copy of the webpage and you can see that there is absolutely no indication of where the image ends and the page background starts.
I may not need 128 colors, so I'll play with that, but at least I know where the problem is.
    So... thank you Curt!
What would we do without these forums?
    John
By the way... I see your message was cut off in the forum, but the full message came to my email: "I am over my head on this subject. The only thing I noticed is that you are adding the color in AdobeRGB and then converting to sRGB. Will this give a slightly different color than using sRGB for the New Image from the start?"

    Hi
I've been having problems with my save for web function freezing, so I deleted my preferrences , settings, accidently deleted my save for web plugin. The save for web then greyed out if I tired to save for web any type of document. I moved my save for web plugin from my trash back into the plugin folder. Photoshop save for web was still greyed out. I then restarted my computer and the save for web is still greyed out.
Any sugessions on what I can do to activate "save for web" again would be much appreciated.
I  think it's the plugin that's corrupt, I can't find the photoshop cd to  reinstall it.
Has anyone got the MAC CS4 Photoshop "save for web plugin"  (Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web  CS4/Photoshop/Adobe Save for Web CS4 Prefs) that they could send me.
This is my CS4 Plugin (it was like this before I accidently deleted it), my collegue's cs4 plugin doesn't look anything like this and doesn't work for me either):

    Sorry I meant my collegue's cs5 plugin.
I've read  quite a few posts on this subject and other people have got their friend  to send them their plugin and they've inserted it onto their computer  and it fixed the problem. But I don't know anyone who has photoshop cs4  on a mac.

  • Save for Web & Devices Box Greyed Out

    Hey everyone,
I'm trying to save a Photoshop CS4 file for Web & Devices so I can have Photoshop compile the slices and the CSS so I can hand-design rollovers. Unfortunately, all of a sudden the dialogue box for Save For Web & Devices is greyed out... I've check online, changed color profiles, deleted save for web and devices library files, updated Photoshop, nothing. I've even checked past .psds I've designed that I've saved for Web & Devices and haven't changed since--even the Web & Devices box is greyed out for them. Help! What do I do? I need to do this before Friday. Thank you!

  • CS6 "Save for Web" "Convert to sRGB" Issues

    Hello,
I'm aiming to take RAW photo files, edit them in a wide color space, and when posting them to the web, save them as sRGB.
    My workspace is as follows:
I open RAW files in Photoshop via ACR as 16-bit ProPhoto smart objects.
When I finish editing them, I use "Save for Web" with the "Convert to sRGB" and "Embed Color Profile" boxes checked.
Photoshop and Bridge tell me the profile in photos saved as such is sRGB as expected. When I upload to a site like flickr, however, the metadata says the photo is still in ProPhoto. See an example here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nrbelex/7950202448/meta/in/photostream
If I use "Convert to Profile" and change it to sRGB, then upload to flickr, the metadata says the photo is in sRGB, as it should be.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks!

Without using Flickr, I'm not seeing any problem with any of the color-managed software I have here.
The ProPhoto test file I prepared, when Save For Web is used, is saved with sRGB numbers and (since I checked the box) has the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile embedded in it.
Photoshop re-opens the file and correctly judges that it has the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile.
A search through the binary data from the file Saved For Web using a text editor turns up a number of references to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, but none to ProPhoto RGB.
Your first image above, however, has BOTH references to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and ProPhoto RGB, the latter appearing in a string of text data that looks like:

  • Photoshop CS4 Save for Web JPEG Colors are Off

Ok, I've scoured the web to see about finding a solution for this and tried every possible option and still I'm coming up empty handed. I have a website that I'm developing for a painter and have an image converted to sRGB, and the colors are where I want them to be. I use Save for Web, and every iteration suggested online for the, embed and don't embed, convert to sRGB and dont' covert, use document color profile, use windows, yada yada. Here's a recent example:
when i preview the image with Firefox, here's the difference:
The photoshop version is on the left and is the color that I want/need. The image on the right is firefox and saturated. If I save for web with embedded profile, safari is accurate, whereas firefox is saturated, so it's obviously discarding the icc and using some color space that I can't see in my file. I did notice that if I have my Custom, Proof and select Monitor RGB, then I can see what firefox will ultimately display and also what Safari will display if i have Embed ICC Profile unchecked in the save for web dialogue box.
I know that CS2 and CS3 were easier and less squirrely with color managing web files, but I think CS4 has some juju under the hood. Am I the only one out there frustrated, or like other web developers just accept the inaccuracy and move on? Since this is fine art, I'm doing my best to dial the color in, but it's been all afternoon beating on this.
Any ideas, I'm ready to install CS3 and see if my life will be easier, but I'm wondering if having Photoshop CS3 and CS4 will cause any issues.

    >> your logic
That's my rant and I'm sticking to it.
The OP wrote he doesn't want or need to discuss the pros and cons of embedding profiles in Web images, but for the sake of anyone else reading this:
    1) Embedded ICC Profiles increase file sizes (about 4K per image).
    a) I may have over 100 thumbnails and dozens of photos on one page,
    b) Plus, I may have an image sliced into many pieces.
    c) That additional 4k per image, per slice, will add up fast and may kill dial-up traffic.
    2) Very few computers use color-managed web browsers or calibrated monitors anyway, and
    3) Problems with matching/blending image's edges or background color with a filled box or page color.
    d) If I tag the image — on Mac colormanaged browsers — the color will mismatch the box/page color on managed browsers because the tagged image is being Converted to MonitorRGB, and the untagged page or box color is having MonitorRGB Applied.
    e) This matching or blending a pixel-based graphic to page color is a pretty big deal to do correctly in professional web publishing.
    f) If I publish untagged sRGB images/graphics, the box/page color will match the images and blend correctly in all browsers.
I WILL QUALIFY my general recommendation about embedding profiles in pixel-based web images for the following reasons:
    1) You are posting fine-art images, creative portfolios, and are not worried about adding 4K additional data per image, per slice.
    2) You are not worried about having Mac visitors seeing graphic blends or photos mismatched to a background color.
    3) You understand only properly-profiled monitors and color-managed web browsers will benefit from your embedded profile — and it is likely 99% of web surfers don't have either — however, if you are targeting the one percent who do, then there is your number one best reason for tagging web photos with embedded profiles.

Sorry for such a long delayed response...
I was able to get to an apple store this past weekend, and let me tell you... I'm about finished with there great "support".
Right before I went to the store, I tried to eject a disk. Well the cloth in the SuperDrive (I assume to protect the drive from dust and such) Pulled up with my disk. So I get the Apple store, describe my problem and what happened with the cloth piece. The "Genius" writes up a form and tells me they have to run diagnostic and it will take a couple days... and I will get a call when its done (1-3 days).
Well on day number 3 I called up the store and they told me it was ready to be picked up? I asked if anything had been fixed and they told me they could not reproduce my "sleep issue", so they couldn't fix that.. but told me the cloth piece in the SuperDrive had been fixed.
I drive an hour (one way) to the Apple store to find that all they did was PULLED OUT the cloth... they did not replace it! So basically I have a hole for a Super Drive.
I asked why I was not called to say that my computer was ready to be picked up... didn't get an answer on that one.
I asked why my SuperDrive was said to be fixed, when nothing was done... they told me that it would have to be sent out to the factory store for that to be fixed (FIRST TIME THEY MENTIONED THAT!) Oh, and that would take 5-7 business days. Well that's not going to happen right now considering I'm a college student that NEEDS a working computer!
So I go home, angry... start just putting all my important documents back on the computer. And the screen starts blinking!!!! I guess now I have the same thing described in another post on these forms...
Lets just say that I'm not very happy with Apple right now! If anybody else has success on either the sleep issue or the screen blinking issue, please let me know!
    Thank you!

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

  • Psd turn into JPEG prewiews after save for web. Help!

save for web>save>save optimised as>save>close. That gives me a jpeg (the previous was a psd), but in the form of a preview thumbnail, top right corner bent, loupe and "JPEG" on it. I did about 20 psd just fine, ending in the folder as jpg images, keeping their previous names  and the new  "jpeg" underneath. What happened?
Not less odd, as I was shrinking the folder window, (bring in the bottom right corner, but this is probably not related), all the previous ones (the jpeg images) turned into preview icons, too. By moving the cover flow, they turned back into images, and by moving them again, they turned back into jpeg
icons, this time, not with the loupe and the photos, but with 3 geometrical shapes on them. If I bring them back into Ps CS3 and save for web again, and then close, I get a "save changes to the jpeg document?" question,>save,  which gives me a regular save as window, and they stay images, and I could end the problem like that, but that might cancel the previous save for web. Help! goodnight now.

I guess I have been sending all along (my almost 2 years of photoshop) inflated pictures of images (which however I take the care of reducing to 1000
pixels from the original 4000 something that they originally are). What's odd for you guys, and normal for me, is that the computer went back to turning
out  "normal" .jpg images, in small characters, like it has been doing all along, as if it went on a freaky spree yesterday, and I will probably go along with it, just because i don't know how to provoke deliberatly the JPEG with the loupes which appeared breafly yesterday, and that I am supposed to expect.
I don't have any third party add on (do you mean plug in?) Only GF, sitting there, unused for a year.
Of course now i am intrigued: Marion: what do you mean by :"this may be affected by normal Finder settings" ? Any settings that i can control to get those JPEG with loupes that I should expect all the time?
Thanks everybody, i'll just leave the thread open for a bit in case somebody wants to shed some more light on my state of confusion.

  • Original file turns modified after "Save for Web-"

    Hi everyone!
    I'm with a little question.
What happens to the edited file after saving its copy using the “Save for Web…” command? Why the original, unmodified file turns into “changed” (with * symbol after its name)?
    P. S. The same behaviour is in the Illustrator.

It's because the original file did get changed, because the Save for Web settings were changed. Photoshop saves most Save for Web settings so that the next time you use Save for Web, you don't have to set all the options from scratch.
I tested this by opening a file and using Save for Web without changing any settings, and that time the original document did not ask me to save before closing.
