Turn off create font outline

I followed the steps to create a font outline, manipulated the selected font, then moved to a new page-project - I inserted new type - it looks fine at 11 pt, but when I enlarged it, it still has the outline effect - also, the font becomes nothing but a black blob the more I increase the size - seems like the create outline command is still working on a new page.
How do I turn off the create outline command so I can return to regular fonts on new pages?
thanks
Bruce

The create outline command is a 1 shot deal. It doesn't stay on or off like a switch, its more of a conversion process. which is applied to only what was selected and then it is done.
Even if the new type on the new page was in outline form, it would not explain what is happening. Outlining simply means that you can no longer edit the text, it is now a path. Since it is a path, it retains its shape and characteristics no matter how much you scale it.
If you rasterise the text, apply a drop shadow or any other raster effect to the text, then those effects would be effected when scaling.
Everything I type above is my best guess for not seeing your screen, which is why Monika requested a screen shot.

  • Create Font Outline

I am working with AI CS version 11.0.0 on a mac powerbook with OS 10.4.11.
I have worked up a postcard using AI and am trying to outline all the fonts. I tried using Type > Create Outlines as well as Effect > Path > Outline Object but both Create Outlines and Outline Object are "grey" (will not respond). I tried changing the font to every kind of font in my font file, but the choices remain "grey".
    What could be wrong?
By the way, I am trying to outline the fonts at the request in order to send the file to an online printer. If I make a PDF of the AI file, do I still need to outline the fonts?

    > Also, I notice when I Save As PDF, if I turn off "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" the PDF file size gets dramatically smaller...
Saving a PDF with that option on actually embeds a complete second version of the file in native Illustrator format inside the PDF. That's why it's larger.
Similarly, if you save an .ai file, and have Acrobat Compatibility turned on, a full second copy of the file, this time in Acrobat format, gets embedded in the file, and again the file is larger.
    > Is there any problem with turning this off?
If you save the PDF with Illustrator editability off, and then open it later with Illustrator, you will find that the native objects have been "dumbed down" to the simpler objects that PDF understands. Live Blends and Brushes will be "expanded" to simple paths, text will be broken into multiple objects, etc., etc.
I save my AI files with Acrobat Compatibility on. That lets me Place them in InDesign. InDesign doesn't really use the .ai content. It uses the PDF content. But if you use the Edit Original command, Illustrator will be launched, the native Illustrator content will be opened, and when you save it, it gets updated in InD.
I almost always save my PDFs with Illustrator Editability off. That's because I don't treat PDF as an editable format (except for PDF forms). If I want a recipient to be able to edit a PDF in Illustrator, I'll not send him a PDF; I'll send him an .ai file.
Adobe's marketing used to promote this scheme with claims like "PDF is now Illustrator's native format." I say that's baloney. The fact that A can contain B does not mean that A equals B. I'm not saying the scheme is useless; I'm just saying the claims were overstated.
Acrobat's format was changed to include a tagged-off area inside of which the authoring program can write its native content. That content is ignored by Acrobat. So, as I understand it, there is nothing preventing CorelDraw or any other program that exports to PDF from similarly embedding its native content in the PDF. (Except maybe licensing fees?) But I'd bet unnecessarily bloated PDF files are now almost as commonplace on the web as oversampled raster images.

  • Turn off Safari font preferences

How do I turn off the Safari font size preferences to allow pages to choose their own fonts and font sizes? Like I can in the Firefox preferences.

I am not the original poster, but I am having similar problems with Safari, especially in displaying Greek Fonts.
I have all the necessary Greek fonts installed on my computer (and then some!). Pages with Greek text encoded in their style sheets display fine in Firefox, but Safari only displays the English letters instead of the Greek fonts.
Is there no way to allow pages to select their own fonts in Safari like there is in Firefox?
    Try this link:

The Greek letters display fine for me in Firefox with the above link, but, in Safari, nothing but English characters.

  • Turn off "Create PDF Compatible File"?

Is there a way to turn off the "Create PDF Compatible File" option by default in Illustrator CS4?
    Thanks.

Though you can mess with the preferences this way and it may work for you there is always a possibility of offering a corruption or the invitation to a corruption that has not been tested for this way.So you should keep a clean copy of the AI preferences in case you have a problem doing something with ai that was not the normal behavior and so you can swop it out with the new preferences. You can that way discover if the new settings causes this situation and then figure out if you need it that badly. Especially if it happens repeatably.
But this is s good feature request to be able to set the defaults of all tools all panels all menu items etc. One that will not be trashed when resetting the the defaults as they can be reloaded and rewritten fresh as if they where the factory load.
I think it is time for the uer to have more say about ho they use any of the Adobe applications.

  • Help "turn off" create outline

I am a fairly new user of InDesign. Recently I produced a brochure and following the instructions of the printer, I used the 'create outline' function to flatten the jod and export to a PDF. That seemed to work well. I sent the file to the printer and they sent back a proof. I needed to make some changes. When I went back to the file to change some type copy, the text frames were locked and I was unable to change a thing. Needless to say I have since learned to make a working copy before flattening and to flatten without using the create outline prompt. Is there a way to undo the 'create outline' once it has been saved?
    Thanks
    D

My advice...the next time you get this request, find a new printer.
Ummm, the only printer I get this request from is the client's in-house print department, and I'm not going to replace a client that my firm has worked with for 25 years (especially since I've only been here 3-1/2 years).
Believe me, I've talked to everyone involved and this is they way they've done it for years and it works for them so they're not changing. So . . . I keep my type on a separate layer and as part of my final file prep steps, dupe that layer and convert text to outlines. FYI -- THAT is the file I route for internal sign-offs. There is no way I'm sending a file to a printer after making a massive change like that without it being checked over first.

  • How to turn off automatic font changes  in pages

When I move the cursor across the screen it often reduces the size of the fonts in the cells.  How can I stop it?

    Thanks june
I have no trackpad for my iMac and I left the delivered mouse in its box.
Its size doesn't match my hand's one so after two hours of use, I suffer from cramps.
I use my good old Wacom mouse with my good old Wacom tablet. I may work with it without cramps all day long.
If I have some spare time, I will test with the gestures on the Apple mouse.

  • Files and font sync turn off working with InDesign..

    Hi
Files and font sync turns off when I work with InDesign directly on the CC disctop files folder. It use to be ok to work directly in sync mode, but apparently not any more. I guess the problem is the backup file that InDesign creates, that consist of signs behaps not allowed (?). It use to work for me, but not any more..?
Do anyone els have the same problem?
    Jørgen

    Hi again
Thanks for your reply. In the Creative Cloud Help page I get, it says: "Save and close the file when you're done editing it and the error goes away.", but I actually have to reconnect. The bad thing about this is that it turns off the font sync as well when I was working.
I have temporarely solved the problem, simply be changing the name of the file I'm working on. I have tryed to reproduce it with a different name - all with leagal signs according to the page mensioned above - with no success (which is positive). Then I tryed to move the file to a new folder within the folder I was working on, and then it  worked without problem. Strange.
I guess, if I run in to the same problem again, I will just try to change the name.
    Thanks

Turn off the pdf compatibility option and try again." Even if I start a new file I unable to save it with this font. I need to use this font.

Then you need to outline all text before savng the PDF.
Make sure you do this on a copy of the file.

I am changing to iCloud on my iMac, MacBook Air and my iPhone. My iMac and MacBook both moved over to iCloud but my iPhone when I go to Settings and click on iCloud it shows my Mail setting turned Off. When I turn it on it wants me to create a new email address to turn on iCloud Mail. I already have to "me" accounts plus another email address and don't want to create another one. I don't understand why it's asking me to do this on my iPhone but didn't ask on my iMac or MacBook and is there a way around creating another @me.com email address?

  • Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I just want to type a letter and add pictures and titles, and Pages keeps changing font sizes and doesn't let me "Do it my way".  I HATE this!

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I'm using a blank document, so I figured I could write my letter and add pictures any way I wanted to.  But NO!  Pages keeps changing the font size!  I typed a large heading as a title, and when I try to change to a smaller font for the body of the letter, it changes the size back to the larger size!  I am getting SO FRUSTRATED!  I've spent over an hour trying to get the stupid program to let me just type my letter!  Can anyone help?

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!
You're welcome Rich. Glad to help.
Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

  • TS1717 While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl"  cannot be read  because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please :(

While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl"  cannot be read  because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Garamond font is turned off when I installed OS X Mavericks. I restored it but it's not showing up in Pages. How do I fix this problem?

    Try opening up:
    /Applications/Font Book
Scroll to the Garamont Font, then try File > Validate font
If this doesnt work, right click (or control + click) the font and select show in finder. Makes sure it is not located in the /Library/Disabled Fonts/   folder

  • Turn off font smoothing

I love thin clear fonts when they are not smoothed. Please FIND A WAY to turn font smoothing off.
I turn it off from windows 7 also. I don't know why are you so in love with the ugly font smoothing, which makes the fonts appear bloated and fuzzy.
PLEASE APPLE MAKE IT TURN OFF!

Thanks, I appreciate it, but I know that.
And it doesn't work. It doesn't deactivate it from menu, from XCode pop-up menus, that option is completely useless.
I think Mac fails miserably with fonts, and it just ruins an otherwise good OS.
It doesn't look as bad on retina displays, but that's only because you have twice as many pixels to work with.
And still it bloats the fonts unnecessarily.
    It's just ugly.
I was so mad with fonts, I wanted to write my own kerner driver just to turn smoothing off.
It's just horrible, and for a company that takes pride in being the first to bring truetype fonts and graphic user interface, having tasteless fonts is just bad.
Windows also tried to follow you, they added an ugly Segoe font and some other font to their Outlook. Luckily I can redirect them into Arial or Verdana through registry. With Mac it's really built into their OS. This ugly Lucida Grande... What's so nice about this font?
I may sound like I am trashing or ranting, but I speak this way in hopes that somebody notices and makes a normal update to the otherwise normal OS. Their font is just ugly. It looks ugly. There is nothing nice about the way Mac makes fonts smoothing. It would be much better off if it could have been turned off.
Just because the developers of Mac OS is used to seing their font uglyfied by smoothing, and sees no harm in it, doesn't mean everybody shares their preferences. I am a developer too, and I also produce software for sale, It's the user who they should listen, they will be surprised to learn how wrong they are...

  • AE error: AE_OpenGL: Failed to create OpenGL context! Turning off OpenGL. (5065 :: 0)

    Dear all,
I have been reinstalling CS5 at least 10 times (without exagerating) and I keep having this error popping: AE error: AE_OpenGL: Failed to create OpenGL context! Turning off OpenGL. (5065 :: 0)
Every time I save it reappears and I don't have a clue what it is.
At first I thought it had something to do with my video card driver ATI HD radeon 5870 but everything seems fine and up to date there.
    Any clue?
    I would appreciate any help!!!
    Thanks,
    Etienne

Every time I save it reappears and I don't have a clue what it is.
Simply turn off OpenGL in the AE prefs.
everything seems fine and up to date there.
Mustn't mean anything. The latest drivers are not necessarily always the best/ most compatible ones and things like screen resolution sometimes have a strange influence as well... You could always try installing a different version, of course, but since AE realyl doesn't use OpenGL that much, that may be more trouble than it's worth...
