Turn off display (like an iPad/smartphone)

I have googled all night for this, and only found forum posts where people don't understand what the question is.
I'm looking for a way to make the power button on my helix do the same as a power button on an iPad or smartphone.
I want it to turn off the display and ignore any inputs from the touchscreen. Then touch the power button again and either have to unlock/swipe up or just continue where I was.
Yes, I could just lock the screen, but it would then still be on, thus using more power. I don't want to use sleep mode, since that would stop downloads/IM sessions/and so on.
Any suggestions?

Dont know about using the power button for this - but -
you can search the web for "monitor power off" scipts (Uses windows SendMessage with parameters specifying power off monitor), and create a shortcut for this script.
Then you could click this script, or set it with a hot-key to run it.
The only problem is that the screen will still be sensitive to touch, and will wake up on touch ot keyboard input.
** Did not try this myself.

Why am I told to turn off airplay on my iPad (3rd generation) when it does not even HAVE airplay according to iOS7 specs?

I have the same problem with my device specially with the NFL App and after maybe 2hrs of research I found out that Verizon has implemented that messege/restriction to keep the app "TRUE" mobile only. What I'm saying is that you won't get the NFL App to play no matter what you do if connected to HDMI adapter or AirPlay. I hope this helps more than the other/previous post. If you need re-assurance please click on the link where I found my information, below.

my ipad is block with sign "waiting". I can't turn off or on my ipad. I dont kown what do
    thanks for your help

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Msi p45 platinum - freezes after power save turns off displays

Just put this computer together, everything is stock, no overclocking. Seems to run fine, played a few hours of modern warfare 2 with no issues.
I noticed It seems to freeze after the monitor gets turned off by the power save mode. I just tested this by setting it to turn off displays after 1 minute of inactivity, waited watched the monitor turn off, then I went to the move the mouse and the screen came back on but the cursor would not move. sometimes the screen will not even come back on.
I have turned the computer on, left the room while it was booting to eat breakfast or take a shower, came back the screen was still on but the computer was frozen. Window 7 login screen was up, but there were some graphic glitches. this has happened a couple of times.
If I manually put the computer to sleep it seems to come back properly.

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • Is there a way to totally turn off 3G/LTE on iPad and make it a wifi model?

I know this is a kind of odd question but let me explain. I bought an original iPad around 18 months ago and now I'm going to upgrade to a new iPad as soon as possible, when I bought the original iPad I bought the 3G version but after a couple days I didn't think that I was going to use it much so I returned it to the store and got a wifi model, but there were a few times that I was travelling and I didn't have wifi around and 3G would be useful, plus other times that I didn't knew the city I was in so I used my iPhone's GPS to get around but I kept thinking how better it would be to use the iPad's larger screen so I'd like to have the 3G+GPS there just for convenience. I'd like to know if it is possible not have a SIM inside the iPad, not recieve the no SIM error, have data turned off and see on the top left corner the iPad name instead of "no SIM" or the little airplane icon since that was one solution not to recieve the no SIM error.

Without checking myself, just be aware that the iPad OS generally only provides error signals that are relevant. It wouldn't seem relevant to report on a missing SIM with Cellular turned off, and I'd therefore expect that you wouldn't see that message after having done so.
Don't turn on Airplane Mode, however (that's what's shown by the "little airplace icon") as that also shuts down your wifi.
And yes, with Cellular off it just says "iPad" there on the status bar, exactly as described in your User's Guide and other locations.

  • HT204406 Although I have subscribed to ITunes Match my ipad setting only states under Settings Music, to subscribe to iTunes Match. But i have subscribed. i have played the downloaded songs from the icloud, too, and when i turn off my computer, the ipad m

I subscribed to Music Match with iTunes and yet my ipad settings for Music only still has the option to subscribe, and therefore I cannot click on an option to Activagte iTunes Match, since it is not there. I have all the right number of songs from the icloud showing up in my ipad now, and I have played a few, but when I tried to turn off the computer, it showed a field stating that my ipad music would stop playing too, and it did. I thought this might have something to do with homesharing, but this I thought was something separate from iCloud.
There is something wrong, but I don't understand what. It has just synced, but the problem persists.

Home sharing is separate from iTunes Match.  Sounds like you were playing music using home sharing, which turned off when you turned off your computer.
Open iTunes on your computer and go to the Store menu.  Confirm that there is a setting called Turn Off iTunes Match.  That will confirm that iTunes Match is enabled on your computer.  Then check to see what Apple ID you subscribed to iTunes Match with.  It will be the ID in Store>View Account (in parentheses).
On your iPad, confirm that you are signed in with this same ID in Settings>iTunes & App Store (at the top).  If so, you should see an iTunes Match setting listed with an on/off slider.  Slide it on to enable iTunes Match on your iPad.
