Turn off Gestures

Sorry if this has been covered. I searched but didn't see anything.
I was wondering if there was a way to turn gestures off altogether? I'm constantly accidentally changing the size of fonts in Safari, rotating my canvas in Photoshop CS4, etc. I don't want to get rid of gestures permanently but it'd be nice to be able to turn them on and off when using a program like photoshop.
Thanks,
Joanna

If only it were that simple. There isn't anywhere in system preferences to turn gestures off completely.
My problem is most prevalent when working in photoshop, which I do a lot. CS4 has a new function that lets you rotate your canvas on the fly to see your work from different 'angles.' It takes advantage of the rotate gestures. Unfortunately, I am constantly, accidentally rotating and it's gotten very frustrating. I also occasionally have a problem in Safari where I accidentally zoom instead of scroll and blow everything up.
I was hoping there was a plug in, a preference pane or a terminal line i could use to toggle on and off.

  • How to turn off gesture to open current tab in new window.

I have looked in auto:config and searched for gesture. None of the results seem to match my problem so I am starting to wonder if it is a gesture. At any rate often I have a tab open and will be using the trackpad to do some things, scrolling, selecting whatever. I unfortunately happen to not keep total 100% control over where things are going and suddenly my tab is open in a new window. It seems to be caused by some two finger combination on the trackpad but not sure what.

That document on using tabs to organize lots of websites in a single window isn't helpful to me for the following reasons:
    1. I already organize lots of websites in a single window, the problem is that some of these tabs will suddenly be opened in a new window when interacting with them.
    2. The section on opening a tab in a new window does not seem to be what is happening to me. It says:
"To move a tab to its own window, click on the tab and drag it below the tab strip. Or, to move a tab from one Firefox window to another, click on the tab and drag it to the tab strip of another Firefox window. "
The second method is the one I have to use to move a tab that has been mistakenly opened in a new window back to the window it should be in, so I know that works and I know that's not what's happening. The first one doesn't seem to be relevant either as my problem does not happen when I click on the tab and then drag it, rather I am interacting with the page inside the tab. For example trying to scroll, or select some text, and then it opens in a new window. It seems to me whenever it happens I have ended up touching the touchpad with a second finger. Is there some way that it could mistake it as selecting the tab, and then my normal scrolling/text selection behavior actually ends up dragging it below the tab strip? If so the document describes my problem, but it does not describe how to fix it, since I am not doing it on purpose.
IS there any way to disable the drag a tab below the tab strip opens a new window behavior?

  • How do i turn off the STUPID gestures? every time i quickly scroll a large page i get switched to previous sites i've been at, very, very annoying! i hate gestures!

i'm using firefox 4.0 on an amd cpu running suse linux 11.4. i've completely turned off the gestures in suse (one of the first things i do, i can move a mouse very quickly and i like it to be a mouse!), i can't find a plugin or setting to turn these damn things off. the main problem is when i use the scroll wheel to rapidly move up or down a long web page and wind up on another page suddenly, very, very annoying! i really, really HATE gestures! then again i know how to use buttons etc. and i do mouse very quickly and creatively ( i also turn off several other "conveniances" like automatic window resizing, i know how to manage windows.....) thanks, i really, really hate these "features" being on by default, people with certain disabilites are probably also highly annoyed by the lack of choice in some procucts.
you really, really need to provide easy access to more settings, as evidenced by the number of extensions aimed at providing control to users. thanks

You can set all the mousewheel.with*.action prefs to 0 to perform a scroll.
    mousewheel.withnokey.action
    mousewheel.withaltkey.action
    mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action
    mousewheel.withmetakey.action
    mousewheel.withshiftkey.action
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
If necessary then you can also set all the browser.gesture prefs to empty String values.

  • Turned off auto-scanning, turned on Switch control. Why don't I have control on my screen?

I saw this video on Facebook about switch control about the head gestures etc. I thought I would give it a try. Turned off auto scanning (DOnt know what this is) as the video instructed, then turned on  switch control. I set one of the switches to increase volume so I threw on some music to test it out. (didn't work). So I locked my phone. When I turned it on, I could not do anything on my phone (swipe to unlock, pause music, volume up/down nothing!) I tried the bail out feature, and nothing.

  • How can I turn off Mail's Compose and Reply animations in fullscreen?

Does anyone know how to turn off the animated opening of a "compose new mail" window when in fullscreen mode?
I'm using Mail 6.5 under Mountain Lion.  When I'm in fullscreen mode and I either compose a new email, or reply to an email, the new mail window springs up from the bottom of the screen in an animated way.  I would prefer it to just appear.
I was able to disable this animation when not in fullscreen mode by typing from a Terminal prompt:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableReplyAnimations -bool TRUE
However, I cannot find a way to disable it while I'm in fullscreen mode.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

The only gesture that is stand is the two finger tap the goes to mission control.  You can turn that off in System Preferences > mouse.
Also check the second column in System Preferences > Mission control > Show Desktop:
Set to "-" as a secondary click here could cause the issue.

  • How do I turn off the message asking me to sign in to my iCloud?

While using my iPad and my iPhone, I keep getting a mesage to sign in to my Itunes and or iCloud account....how can I turn these off?

You can turn off the multitasking gestures which may be causing the screen to move form app to app when he swipes left to right or swipes up from the bottom.
Go to Settings>General>Multitasking gestures>Off. That should help some.
Unfortuantely - You can't turn off the notification center - the calendar that pulls down from the top. If you swipe down from the top, that is always going to appear on the screen.
And there is no way to simply lock into one app. You can lock the screen orientation via the side switch or in the task bar at the bottom of the iPad - double tap the home button and swipe to the right to find the screen lock icon all the way on the left -  it isn't locked by the side switch.
There may be iPad cases that will aid you in preventing your son from accidentally performing these screen movements with his hands, however, you would have to search for those with a Google search or maybe post a more specific question in this help site in order to get input from others in similar circumstances. You need something along the lines of a kiosk case - but one that allows more freedom of touch.

  • Turning off the mousepad...

I can't find anyway to turn off the mousepad like I could with Leopard. Am I missing something?
I DO have "ignore accidentel trackpad movement", but that mode doesn't seem very effective with my palms resting on the pad while I type. I ONLY use a mouse for my pointer.

    HI,
I understand what you are saying but ...
For more accurate tracking, navigate the cursor with one finger on the trackpad at a time. For comfort, you can rest your thumb near or along the bottom of the trackpad, much like the thumb position from previous trackpads. If this is your preferred finger position, rest your thumb along the bottom edge of the trackpad. The glass multi-touch trackpad is so advanced, it can sense when your thumb is resting on the edge of the pad.
*Note: Resting your thumb on the trackpad (above the bottom edge) may result in accidental gestures such as scrolling, zooming or rotating.*

A few people have reported problems with the hand gestures since IOS 8. It's not normal, I have don't have the problem on my iPad 4.  I doubt it's a major problem but if it happens regularly I'd have it checked out by the Genius bar at the Apple Store.

  • Turn off pinch to zoom for just the desktop

Is there any way to turn off the pinch to zoom feature on my macbook for just the desktop? I like to use it for zooming in on web pages and photos and stuff, but i hate when i accidentally make all my icons huge or tiney. Thanks

Yeah, I figured there wouldn't be an easy way to do it. I was actually kind of thinking of maybe a 3rd party software. I know theres things like multiclutch which let you assign your own gestures, but I don't think you can use it to turn off a gesture for just the finder. Any other ideas?

  • Turn off mouse

Stupid Bluetooth mouse on my new iMac drives me crazy. I'm jumping all over the page I'm designing so much that I'm much more efficient with my old non-Blue Tooth mouse. In fact I'd just use that except my old computer still needs it. I've gone to the System Preferences and turned off every gesture under the Mouse control panel and even restarted and the silly thing still keeps jumping every time I inadvertantly swipe my fingers over it.
    Help!

When you say jumping, do you mean the cursor suddenly moves to a different location?
If so, there are'nt really any gestures that would cause that.
Could be something else going on.
Have you tried the wired mouse?

You can not turn it with gestures or with the shutdown button / operation of the device.
    Does anyone the solution?

I tried all of this. and still. nothing.
even wipe and restore device software didnt work
    what can i do?

  • Classic Turns Off/Restarts in Pocket

My Blackberry Clasic keeps turning off when in my pocket and I'm missing important calls. The power button is being pushed in my pocket all the time on this phone. It seems so illogical that you can shut down the phone when it's screen is locked just by pressing one button that is easily pushed when in a pocket. Also that top button seems a lot softer to push than previous blackberries and is also petruding more so it is easily pushed in when in a pocket.
My phone powers down in my pocket 3 or 4 times a day and it's getting on my nerves as I miss calls. Then when I need to use my phone I have to wait 5 mins for it to restart wasting even more time. Should there not be at least 2 buttons to be pushed to restart the phone when the screen is locked or when pushing the power button there has to be a second screen gesture to confirm that you want to restart like with EVERY other manufacturer of phones out there. Honestly I cannot believe how ret*rded this is.
So my question is... Is there anyway to disable the power down button from restarting the phone or can i add in a second button that needs to be pushed to confirm power down? Is there an app out there that can maybe do this?
I've been a loyal customer of Blackberry for the past 6 years, and resisted moving over to Android/iPhone due to the keyboard. I can put up with not having all the apps that other phones have but I can't keep a phone that fails to be a working phone that I use for work and lives in my pocket. Is there any fix to the problem?

    Hi
I think there are only 2 choices:
    Use a holster
Enabale a device password for your BB. You have the choice of:
    Normal password
Picture Password (there is a grid of numbers as an overlay over a picture and you chose a number and a place on the picture (e.g. when you move the grid that number "2" is on the mountain top then the device is unlocked
Locking the device can be done by holding down "K" (or other key if defined different)

  • How do I turn off the fancy flick and pinch features in the iPad?

I'm using my iPad with my son who is severely physically handicapped. He can't do a simple single finger tap and instead uses all five fingers on the pad while moving his hand back and forth. This actually works just fine within the apps he wants to play with, however he often accidentally switches apps, pulls down the calendar, or pulls up more options because he is accidentally performing fancy moves on the pad by mistake. Can I turn off those features - or maybe lock the screen so it's "stuck" in one app and can't move to another by accident?

You can turn off the multitasking gestures which may be causing the screen to move form app to app when he swipes left to right or swipes up from the bottom.
