How do I turn off imessage between macbook and iPhone?
I just recently got a MacBook air for Christmas I set it all up and am now noticing that all my messages from my iphone are syncing to my MacBook, (iMessage). I use the same apple Id for my iphone as I do for my macbook (because I don't like having tons of usernames or emails), I just don't want my imessages going to my computer when I am not on my computer, or when someone else is using my computer.
I didn't want to remove my whole apple Id because then I would have to make a new apple ID. but I figured it out from what you suggested only I went to messages > preferences > accounts and unclicked my phone number where it suggested I could be reached at. Thank you!
Nevermind I thought it worked I guess I will just have to log out of my computer every time I leave it or let someone use it -

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To turn off iMessage, open Messages, go to Messages menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Accounts, choose the Apple ID in the sidebar and select Sign Out. You can also unmark your phone number -

My friend switched his phone number from an iPhone to a Blackberry. My phone still wants to use iMessage to send him a text and won't let me send it as a text unless I turn off iMessage on my phone. Is there a fix for this?

TechCrunch posted a solution today that applies to this problem, I think.
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Click your old iPhone and "unregister" it.

My situtation is this, my soon to be ex previously set up an ipad with both our numbers and we share a linked itunes/icloud account so if my phone is off he gets all my messages via his ipad that I DO NOT have access to his ipad at ALL. I can't set up my own itunes account (not yet until I leave him) otherwise he will know I am leaving him and it will cause major problems. So I was hoping that if I turn off iMessages on my iphone 5 and just talk to my family via SMS and NOT touch his precious ipad mini, that he wont be able to get my messages anymore and if I turn off iCloud storage and back up as well on my iphone only. Is this correct? Its just a temporary solution I am hoping. I have searched for days and hours and I just cant find this answer anywhere....
Do I HAVE to turn off my phone number off or delete it on his ipad? I am really hoping I can just do this at my own end and not touch his ipad in anyway or have to change my itunes id YET. Once I leave him shortly, I will create a whole new ID etc. I just wanna know if I can do this myself on my iphone only. Please any experienced help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much.mazwig wrote:
I just want to know if I turn off iMessages and iCloud Back up, and ONLY use SMS myself and my family just SMS's me - and do this on my PHONE ONLY and not touch his ipad (so he doesn't know), if he will get any of my messages I send or receive on his ipad please. Its just a temp thing and I just want to take action myself on my own phone and want to know if this will work. Does anyone know?
SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.
Best of luck. -
Is there a way to turn off iMessage for a group text that includes multiple people with different non-apple devices? When a message is sent, only the iPhone users can see the iMessage. Those without them cannot see the texts unless we send individual Text Messages or turn off iMessage completely.
now I have this and it still doesn't work.

How can I turn off imessage for just one of my contacts? Me and my husband just upgraded (both had iphone 4), I got the iphone 5s and he got he note 3. All my text to him automatically send as a imessage. Ive tried to delete his contact and then went back in and reentered it but that doesnt work.
Have your husband text the word "stop" to 48369. This should take his number out of the iMessage system.
Go into your settings under messaging and make sure the box to send as an SMS if iMessage is unavailable is checked.
Hopefully this will get your messages sending/receiving to each other. -

Yesterday I bought a new galaxy s5 as a replacement for so iphone 4. I did not turn off iMessage before I activated the new phone and sent in the old one. Now I can't receive any text messages from people with iphones. This is more than half of my contacts. I also can't even contact apple because to do so I have to have the serial number of my old phone. What am I supposed to do?
