Turn off imessage

Hi,
my iphone was stolen, I need to turn off imessage as I am using an android phone whilst waiting for iphone 5. I can text iphone users but no iphone user can text me as they go to imessage, my carrier (Vodafone) cannot help. I cannot see how to turn off imessage online and Apple telephone support would not help me they say it is the carriers problem. Any suggestions would be arrpeciated.
Dave

If you registered your iPhone with Apple, unregister it:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on ">" to the right of the phone listing
Click "unregister"
This will unregister it with the iMessage server as well.
